Your first video appeared on my UA-cam. Subscribed. Always watch This Morning . Enjoy when you are on.
I'm the owner of 3 cats, 17yrs, 10yrs and 9yrs. I'm very strict with food, only feed them cat food, dry and pouches, cat treats. So thankful no health issues. They receive their annual vaccinations.
So tragic watching the cats who would adore a loving home, to be centre of attention, just to be loved on. One of mine is almost permantly on my lap 😊.
Let's hope your videos educate cat owners regarding fleas. Applying flea treatment to back of their necks, my female, not so keen, amazing how treats divert their attention 😊. Neutering so important too as i'm amazed how many people think their pet should have a litter first.
Owning a pet is expensive is expensive , especially vet fees but it's we, the owners who are responsible to keep them as healthy as we can😊 keep up the amazing work you do Dr Scott. Hope your channel goes from strength to strength😊

I promised my mom when she died in 2014 I would take care of the feral cats she was feeding. They are now 22 years old and still thriving. I hope they live much longer because I will greatly miss them. They force me to get up every morning to feed them. I have a shed out back I have made cozy for winter and summer where I keep food and water for them. They stay in my yard. They don’t wander out of it and it is fully fenced to protect from other animals. I had no idea cats live this long. I have also fed several cats on the street whose elderly owners passed away. They come and hang out in the shed with the other cats. One of the other property owners adopted the elderly cat left there when her owner died. Cats have a difficult life.

I take care of feral cats and they do not live that long typically.
2 to 3 years is an average life sometimes 4.
They're living longer because of the care that you're giving them and that your mother gave them obviously. They are probably not considered feral anymore and are probably just semi socialized outdoor cats.

(Edit to add: I forgot to mention, we had one kitty that lived to be 24 years old. We had him from a day old. His mom gave birth in the factory where my dad worked, but unfortunately it was in the city and she'd gotten hit by a car. We fed him formula from the vet until he could eat normal food. Anyway, yes, cats can kive along time!❤)

At our local shelter, hundreds of black and white cats in cardboard boxes were left outside one night. The shelter put out a news report, instead of criticizing whoever had the cats, they thanked them for bringing them to a safe place, instead of abandoning them, or worse. All were treated and found loving homes. This shelter does wonderful work, and is well-support by the wealthy community. The day hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, a wealthy donor charted a full-size jet and staff to rescue animals there. Many hundreds were saved, by I was haunted by the fact that that so many fleeing residents left their dogs chained up and they drowned. Loose, they would have had much better chances of survival. After that the laws were changed, evacuating people now have the right to evacuatetheir animals out with them.

I am from California so I have no idea how devasting and horrorifying as a hurricane is. I can only imagine from seeing movies and videos of how destructive these types of storms are. But reading about people being forced it is even more to leave your family (pets ARE family) chained to ensure they die is just despicable and cruel (those people should never be allowed to have a pet). I can understand that being force to evacuate and possibly never to be able to return home, I am positive those people would not leave their children home, so why would they leave without their pets?
Also I was stunned to find out that black & white cats are hard to home... are you kidding me???? Aren't Tuxedo Cats some of the most adorable cats??? Our family has had many tuxedo cats each one with their own quirks and personalities. And black cats, I just cannot say enough about black cats they are absolutely so much fun. Thank God for places like these that give cats and more so feral cats a loving home. God Bless them

@@pattibooth5797 I understand as I have mobility issues myself. I have 9 cats, ages ranging from 19 to 4. What I have that really helps (my cats are indoor cats only) is the Litter Robot 3. Really takes the hard work out of keeping litter boxes clean and our cats love it and our other automatic litter box which is a PuraMax. They are expensive but they do save on litter long term as you don't waste clean litter.
It is always heartbreaking when we lose one of our beloved fur family but as my adult son says "Look to the living". All except one of my cats are rescues so when I lose one I know I gave them the best life I could possibly give.
My oldest cat lived to 23, second oldest 22 - we lost him 2 years ago. Our current oldest is 19 and we lost his brother to old age and illness last year. He too is going downhill, sleeping longer and longer but still enjoying his food, being petted and purring.
Please reconsider. There are so many cats being overlooked in rescues and shelters that need someone like you to love and care for them. It is also a scientific fact that people with cats live longer because cats have a relaxing effect on us not to mention their purrs are healing.

To those who are amazed at the colour problems, it's the same in the US. I was told somebody in the neighbourhood made the sign of the cross as they spotted my 10 yr old boy. He's black from nose to tail tip. He's also getting speckled as he gets old. The person with superstitions surprised me because I was under the impression that that kind of idiocy was gone. I guess I was naive. This place is wonderful! St. Francis watch over you all!

@@LadyIarConnacht The whole superstitions of black indeed is a problem. I see that a lot with religious people who don't know any better. My mother didn't want a black cat. She called them Evil and said in her country everyone knows not to get near them. There's my unlce and others who claim Black cats are scary for that reason. Just Black cats.
So you shouldn't denounce someone of their own lived experienced. Both reasons can absolutely be true of why Blacks cats are not liked.

My elderly boy cat is all black with a little tux. He’s called Ichabod because he was rescued from the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery (the actual one where the legend was based). My friend was a docent there and she got him fostered in September because people do terrible things to black cats, especially near Halloween. I hadn’t really planned on it, but I ended up adopting him. Very glad I did. Not a sweeter cat in the world.

Get multiple cat litter boxes and since they are older check out lower litter boxes with one high side which makes it easy for them to get into and one high side so if they pee high it won’t spray outside the box. Rule of thumb is for every 2 cats they need 4 litter boxes. So if three cats they should have 6 boxes. Now that is a lot haha and most don’t have the space for that but if you have two cats and a big house since it’s new I would keep a littler box in any room they enter frequently. If they are peeing a lot make sure to rule out health issues too

She’s a bit slower and a little stiff but otherwise continues to rule the house. To get rid of her because she’s old is beyond my understanding…I’d only rehome her if we were unable to care for her. . We only do so with our animals if they are suffering and can be helped. Running a retirement village for senior and special needs cats is my dream job.
I myself took in a neglected long hair senior 5 years ago. She had a bad infection and ulcers in her mouth that prevented her from eating solid food. Underweight, covered in matts and entire chunks of fur missing. She had survived on the streets for roughly 6 years after her awful family decided they didn't want to deal with her anymore.
The vet gave her a 50% chance, but she pulled through and after just a week of treatment she started bringing me mice regularly.
She is at least 16 y/o now, still active and playful, healthy as can be, and will plop down on my lap or be my little spoon every day.
Best cat anyone could ask for. ❤
Also have a 10 y/o one-eyed tuxedo boy I adopted from a shelter as a kitten. Neediest brat I ever knew.

I have a long haired black and white tuxedo cat that will turn 12 later this year. When I was living in Ft Worth, TX doing chemo for my second brain tumor I decided I needed a third cat. I looked at shelter website and planned on going to get a 4 year female calico cat. When I walked in though all the cats and kittens were sleeping, several in their litter boxes except for Gus. He was trying to climb his tiny little kitten self out of the cage meowing loudly the entire time. I thought to myself, he obviously wants to come home with me. He has been such a great cat and he’s so beautiful. I wish we had a place like this where I live now but I live in a tiny little town in west Texas. If we did, I would volunteer every single day. If I were to win the lotto I have always said I would build a cat sanctuary. When people call me a crazy cat lady I’m like, that’s not an insult. Right now it’s even true since Gus is the only cat I have:

That retirement village is simply brilliant thinking! The sheds as little homes do not only provide the cats with homely surroundings, but it also gives them an ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ to experience, most importantly the cats are not forced to be in each other’s face if they don’t like each other, but can retreat to elsewhere in the village, what a wonderful idea! A big improvement upon caged settings in a lot of shelters. P.s. now i secretly want a retirement village in my backyard!

Honestly, it's still all rooted in superstition about witchcraft and devil worship. So it's mostly the fault of the Church.
It also has to do with medieval superstition that the colour black has to do with death. So that is a mostly Western thing and spread through Colonisation.
After all, in China it means prosperity and good health, while in many parts of Africa it stands for masculinity, maturity, and age. In India, black is the colour that protects against evil, and in many parts of Eastern Asia it stands for experience (thus, the highest rank of belt is the black belt in martial arts).
Heck, in Ancient Egypt, white meant death, while black was the colour of life and protection from evil!
So it is all culture based and unfortunately, there are still highly uninformed people that thusly harm innocent animals :(

This cat center is doing Gods Work. Thank you for giving to these sweet babies a second chance, the quality of life and the much needed love in their final days. I have had three Gingers give back all the love my family gave them in their last years. We gave them the best quality of life as versus quantity of life. I could never forget the unconditional love they gave, the first family cat taught me how to have unconditional love no matter what ny sibling and I put him through, had the patience of a saint and knew how much we loved him in our own weird way.
I paid that forward with the second and the third, the third passing first and the second about 8 months after. The second came from an abusive home, rescued and was a few hours from euthanasia, adopted him and we just loved on him for 10 years, heaped it upon him as he healed from the trauma and ptsd that impacted the first two years of his life. He loved us back ten fold. The third was hard to not love, he was a dork in all sense of the word, never knew the meaning of the word quit and too cute to boot, ten sweet years with this quirky and adorable baby.
I will continue on with my Tortie and Gray Tabby, give them lots if love, the best quality of life and see that love returned 100 fold.

Seven years ago I adopted two litter mates after my little calico passed. One had no hair anywhere he could reach to lick. Today they are happy, health, and about to turn 14.

When I was in my early teens we adopted a kitten who was found in a plastic bag with his dead mother and siblings. Named him Gizmoe and he was the family cat for a long time until I was in my late teens and suddenly I saw a change in him. He would always sleep at my room, bed and always go where I go, lay on my belly and sometimes get defensive over me.
It wasn't until I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer at the age of 19 where it made sense, cause it has been spreading for a few years without us knowing, well I believe Gizmoe knew cause thats when he started becoming "mine". He started his long rest in October last year and became 17 years old despite his health issues. He was my bestfriend and best anti depressant buddy and I miss him everyday.

Hi there is a place in Benoni, near Joburg in South Africa called "Cat Village" where they house loads of unwanted, abandoned kitties. They subsist on donations and regularly have Open Days where one can go and have a picnic on the grounds and cuddle the residents, with the "entry fee" being a packet of cat food.

I won't put my 4 cats down, one is handicap that no one wants, was surrendered twice and abused, does not use litter box, I took him home, would not let them euthanize, put down or put to sleep, I let them live their lives until the end, I know vet bills are costly and so is everything else, I will find a way, I love cats❤ thank you dear lady with a heart of gold, your cat retirement house and cats are beautiful, may these cats stay healthy and happy and GOD bless you always🙏 caring for them is a lot of work but they are a great joy😊hope you have a lot of help.

That rescue centre/retirement home is amazing..we most definitely need more like that..unfortunately!!.. l foster neglected and abused cats and rehabilitate them so they can find their furever homes..rescue animals are so loving..they know what a 💩ty life is like so they really appreciate a good loving home..cats live much longer than dogs. So please consider adopting an older cat..its the quality of their life..not the quantity !🇬🇧💕✝️🙏👏👍🐾🐈‍⬛️🐾🐈

I despise people who give up and abandon their aging cats (or dogs or any kind of pet). My baby girl cat has allergies, asthma and is slowly starting to develop osteoarthritis. I would never let her down and i do everything to make her feel comfortable. I love her more than anything and i would give every cent for her. You get a pet for life or no pet at all!!!
We also have memorial stones in the animal shelter where I volunteer😇

Hello doctor, I have been following your channel for a long time... and you are a wonderful human who loves animals and cries when your furry friend crosses the rainbow 🌈. We now have 5 cats: a grandmother of 22 years and 8 months who no longer sees and is the boss, then Kiko, 16, Sarah, 6, Chess, 3, and Coco, 7 months... all adopted from rescue centers. Thanks to people like you, we also help cat colonies. Sorry for my bad English. Greetings from Madrid, Spain ❤❤❤❤❤

I suspect it’s people who care too much about interesting patterns and colors, when it’s what is inside that counts. My guess is out of them, black cats get adopted first for looking like little panthers, then black & white tuxedos for their natural outfit, and last, the black & white “cow” kitties. I have had all color cats and loved them all… I think I’ve had all the colors at least. Many black cats, and some tuxedos, and exactly one cow cat, whose name was Girl and I loved her dearly; she was my long-term roommate’s cat first but when I moved in she chose me…and when he moved out they all stayed with me. Girl was old when she was adopted back in the mid-2000s. She lived until 2016, a mystery aged super-senior, very smol, very shy, very sweet. Tiny thing although she came chomsky, but we got her to a healthy weight and later in 2010 I had to force-feed her a month to keep her alive when she stopped eating. But one day she just came into the kitchen for food when I was feeding another cat and she was back to okay again! We were bottle-raising two kittens at the time which made it difficult to schedule. Yet I think taking in those newborns saved her life because we might not have had formula on hand to give her nutrition otherwise. Unlike the kittens, she had to be wrapped in a towel and cleaned up after from all the squirming. I miss her dearly. The kittens are now 14. Well, this month anyway, I know their birthdates. She lives in them and in my heart. And my literal dreams; I see so many of my cats in my dreams.

I adopted a pair of 16 year old brothers and had them for 3 wonderful years. Lost them both to kidney disease. I’d do it again if only I could afford the vet bills. Senior cats are the best!

    • @aidandevlon
      @aidandevlon 14 днів тому

See if you can find an organization that does long-term foster placements. They provide vet care still so that the seniors can live in a home for their golden years; it also frees up shelter space so it’s a win-win for them to provide vet services and have you provide the love.
