Another fun reaction. When I saw your hold up your right clenched fist and starting jamming with the timing of the cymbals, that’s the timing throughout with all the rhythm changes. It’s so much fun listening to them, especially Dani, dance around that basic timing. I agree. They are the most intricate and original trio of musicians I’ve ever heard and Maynard makes for a special vocalist and lyricist for the band.

This album is tied for my favorite of theirs with AEnima. I love watching their metamorphosis from hate to self-improvement (with disdain for those that choose not to). They've evolved musically as well and if this album is their coda, I'm more than fine with that. Spiral Out...

Hi Sean, I really like your reactions, specially Tool ones! You intrigued me about stating why is progressive rock called progressive, so I searched google a bit. Although it is great idea that it is because song progresses in time, it is not true for all the bands, and also not for all Tool songs. So the true meaning of term progressive in music is that it is a label for all music that goes beyond it's genre, for example progressive rock bands are labeled as such because they incorporate other music styles into rock, such as classical, jazz etc. The word "progressive" was meant to mean making progress in the genre: an explicit attempt to make new ideas within the rock genre. Progressive rock emphasizes ambitious compositions, experimentation, concept-driven lyrics, complex time signatures and musical virtuosity.
I might be wrong and I hope that I am but this album sounds like a sign off! Wouldn’t be surprised if this tour was the last, hopefully play some festivals but I think this was the last album and tour. Had to see them live in Pittsburgh, that makes one show for each album since undertow.
Great Video! The tool cover of Led Zeppelin's No Quarter is a must. They took one of the best Zeppelin tunes and expanded it into something next level. I'm not sure how many bands could do a Zeppelin cover specifically that song justice but they did it and in epic fashion.

Adam Jones said it took him 5 yrs write this, he said it’s a cumulation of his life’s work, and his opinion his greatest achievement………. These guys are just better than anyone else, period.
Interesting idea about the term "progressive". A lot of bands in the '70s who were experimenting, did long songs and concept albums, used unusual time signatures and jammed differently live, etc., got tagged as progressive. Not that labels are always perfect. But Tool definitely does a fair amount of buildup, and plenty of complex stuff over the years. Opiate and Undertow have more raw, aggressive, fast-paced styles, especially in regards to vocals.
Best bet for TOOL is to go through their discography song by song in order. Because the type of band they are, there is a story being told by the band and the singer. No wrong way to do it, but a better way perhaps 🤔
