Gary, I keep forgetting to tell you 🙈 I’ve had 3 brief hospital stays in the last few months and one of the things I found myself doing most evenings was watching your videos with a cup of tea and a snack before bed time. I found that it relaxed me and allowed me to unwind after what were at times chaotic and stressful days. Your cheerful and understated manner, coupled with your sense of humour, is very calming 😊
Hi Gary another great review. I admire you giving that food a go it looked bad. What a tonic you are after a bad day at work. You're the best Sharon Dublin
Recently, most of the sausages I've seen in Waitrose have switched from natural pork casings to "beef collagen casing" which is like eating mince in a condom
Years of watching different types of channels on youtube and subscribed to many, but your channel Gary is the first one where I actually remind myself to like the video also, as I know that helps your channel and you deserve all the eye balls and success possible. Keep up the good work. Your positive demeanour goes a long way, mate. Cheers from Ireland.
I was a Waitrose partner for 12 years. Sadly it’s gone downhill since 2008. Lost market share, compromised food quality. BUT, it’s the only supermarket who don’t outsource to Compass group and the like, so you are supporting the partnership.
Agreed, I'm not impressed with the bread and pastries, sausages have too much water added, -fruit and veg is 'average' nothing special - Only thing they excel at for me is fresh meat and fish, and some of the deli stuff
I have to confirm from my personal experience my business stop dealing with Compass group due to unethical business practises .We hired couple times for charity event in both UK and Australia it was disaster most of the hired workers was treated poorly and most all young adults, mostly foreign students ,who stayed on their feet without break for 8 hours.
You should have at least a petit pain at the side, which is always a nice way to begin and/or end any breakfast. One of the reasons foods like this have gone down in quality is that the artisans are priced out by the food chain billionaires.
Unfortunately Oliver as you know..... the "partnership" is a now a shit show, dismantled by Sharon White. the whole idea that "we owned the business" was just utter BS.... it's a failing bricks and mortar retailer, masquerading as a Partnership... Spedan must be spinning in his grave
"Them sausages are more wrinkly than Me"..........Gary I do appreciate your self deprecating sense of humor 🙂 I would describe the food at Waitrose as cafeteria food at best. Not great but it will fill your belly in a pinch. Four is a generous mark. I do enjoy the videos where you venture out into untraditional food venues. Keep up the outstanding work..........Cheers.
All the food is held in a heated section under the heated lamps or Bain-marie, that's why everything is overcooked and crispy. Nothing is made to order apart from the tea.
I am thrilled to be the first to give Gary a thumbs-up today! I'm a huge fan of Gary. He is undeniably the most humble food critic I've ever seen, and his bubbly personality is infectious. It never fails to brighten my day. Gary consistently provides honest reviews every time. 👍😊
Gary, I have a really good recommendation for you!! It is fine dining in a catering college at Westminster Kingsway College 76 Vincent Square London SW1P 2PD This is next to Westminster School playing fields, not far from Victoria train station. The college run the Escoffier Dining Room as a fine dining experience for members of the public. The staff and chefs are mostly students working under the close eye of experienced staff. I have been there 4 times last year. The food is magnificent and the students do work their socks off. Not sure how easy it will be to film as some of the students may be 17 or 18. But I thoroughly recommend it and it is really up your street!
Evening Gary, I've never heard of a supermarket restaurant being a destination eaterie, why? because they are not! Maybe, back to the 50's 60's ladies who lunch would eat at the high end stores, the blue ribbon, never read the right hand side of the menu type of establishment. Bloomin'eck Gary, totally underwhelming first glance at the food. Like you, on to the fritters & poached egg. Sorry to say that egg was snotty, not nice. The fritters, a bit bubble and squeak (ish) The bowl of breakfast 🍜🤔Sausages re heats or kept under hot lamps Fried eggs, thin whites, old eggs. Bacon, to be fair is just the way I like it. Strange but true 🥓🥓🥓(streaky in a sandwich. Back Bacon with a breakfast) No good adding a sachet of HP its not going to help. Good tomato, but the crime....... No toast!!! 🍞or even bread and butter. Gary, we can't settle for "not unpleasant" now how's this for kissmet. The Swiss Cottage /Finchley Road Waitrose is re opening tomorrow after a 6/8 week refit, so I may just pop in to see how it goes. Another beltin video. See you both in the next video Allan&Family
Im feeling your pain watching this review Gary. As another member of our foodie community said before " you are the David Attenborough of food reviews" with your narrative descriptions. Thats why I love this channel, so positive when you just want to be so negative. Comedy gold again "the sausage has more wrinkles than I do" 😂😂 "and in a bowl" 😂😂
Very rare to get a decent grilled tomato these days. . Most barely been exposed to any heat and are sour. Long and slow in an oven with a sprig of rosemary on top - lovely. Everything needs the same amount of attention
When i worked as breakfast chef i had to precook sausages. If you precook them just right they can be reheated in a hot oven and be perfectly good. I was told to do this by the head chef but what irked me is that the other chefs on their breakfast shifts wouldn't use the sausages i'd precooked for us all to use but cook off their own sausages and then leave them under the hotlights until they became dry and overcooked by the end of the service and the remaining ones would have to be thrown away. I was always looking in the bin to see how many sausages (good butchers ones) were wasted ... lots, too many. They'd do the same with tomatos and bacon, mushrooms. It seems in hindsight i had a more 'cook to order' approach than they did and only used the hotlights to keep plates hot. It was certainly harder work for me but i think provided a much better breakfast.
You don't even need a hot oven, a minute or two in a microwave works just as well. If I happen to get a some good bangers on offer (a two-fer or whatever) and I don't want to be eating bangers non-stop for several days, I cook the lot, wrap them in batches in foil while they're still hot, let them cool and put them in the fridge - they'll keep fine for _at least_ a week and I doubt anyone could tell the difference between freshly-cooked and microwaved several days later. I do this, BTW, because I don't find ground meat products, particularly sausages, freeze 'well'.
Some of places will pre-cook sausages and store them in the fridge. I had to do it when i was a breakfast chef. If done right there's nothing wrong with it as long as they're pre-cooked just right and reheated in an oven and not a microwave. Other places will cook off a batch but then leave them under hotlights .. often for too long and then the ones left over are good for nothing and get chucked.
as someone who works for waitrose and has briefly worked in the cafe, if we reheated those sausages and a manager caught us we would be hung by the collar 😂 the sausages are cooked at a setting on the oven and it’s a hit or miss depending on how long the oven has been on for, in the morning they will look undercooked and by the afternoon they will be too overcooked, this waitrose specificity had a interesting take at their cafe i’d say the standards vary per the position and placement of the cafe
The sausages could have done with a jab of botox 😂 to iron out the wrinkles. I'll stick to my shredded wheat and raisins and toast and marmalade Gary. You didn't sugarcoat anything and that's an honest review. 😊 xx
Hi Gary, I had a "Full English" at Waitrose, while the wife went shopping, and it wasn't half bad in fact. They had a sign saying that they only used the best produce sold in the Supermarket. It was far from the best breakfast I have had but not the worst, I gave it a 5 out of 10, but it may have been a weak moment as I was stressed ad I hate supermarkets and I was going on afternoon shift the same day! 😅 So I think it varies from Waitrose to Waitrose and who's cooking the breakfast. But the bowl is really annoying.Another fantastic review, mate! Keep up the great work, really happy for you guys and your success. Have a wonderful rest of your day and speak to you soon, mate!
No problem Frank. I think greasy spoons or other cafes are just much better at producing breakfasts. My first time in a Waitrose cafe and mostly certainly my last
Im sorry to say that you are wrong Dr Frank... because of allergen labelling & Natasha's Law, every breakfast across the whole Estate is the same. If it isn't in terms of the exact ingredients... it's a dismissible offence. For them to claim that they only use the best produce in the store... is at best disingenuous, at worst an outright lie. And as it is all cooked by computer.....literally the cooks, put food on a plate, insert into a merry chef and press play.....store to store consistency should be identical
Nice one gary great vid, like you if we pop in to any supermarket really, have an m&s and sainsburys 5 mins away, aldi just up the road and waitrose just across the river but waitrose wont be getting my federal reseves for brekkie
Nice of you to give the mushroom to the cameraman Gary. We don't have restaurants in supermarkets in Australia and looking at some of that food I think I'm glad.
Every time you go to a place I've been you say exactly what I thought Gary. I went to the Waitrose cafe in Kingston and had breakfast. I felt exactly as you did, sausages were low quality and both the sausages and bacon felt like they had been cooked the day before and re-heated, hence wrinkly and a bit tough. I think all the parts of the breakfast are sitting in big containers pre-cooked and they just pop a bit of each on a plate and serve it up. Nothing is cooked to order and and sausages, bacon and beans (even tomatoes) not sold that day get popped in the fridge and re-heated the next day. The thing is I could go into Waitrose, choose some good quality sausages, bacon, beans, eggs and tomatoes and cook a much better breakfast myself, for a fraction of the cost.
Kingston-upon-Thames or Kingston-upon-Hull?? There's never been a cafe in Waitrose Kingston-upon-Thames, they used to have a small bit serving coffees and pastries but that closed down a few years ago!!
@@minnielee3399 How wrong you are minnielee3399, there's a very big Waitrose cafe in the Kingston-Upon-Thames branch, it's right at the back and overlooks the river. I've been there twice in the last year.
@@jassonsw Wong!! You are getting confused!! The place you are talking about overlooking the river is John Lewis The Place to Eat. Waitrose Kingston on the basement floor has never had a Waitrose Cafe and I've been going to Kingston before they even built the John Lewis/Waitrose there back in the 90s!! John Lewis The Place to Eat and Waitrose Cafe are not the same. Gary is reviewing Waitrose Cafe here, not John Lewis The Place to Eat!!
@@minnielee3399 But they're exactly the same company serving exactly the same food. John Lewis own Waitrose, it's the food department of John Lewis, the fact that they've given it it's own name is just marketing. The breakfast here is exactly the same ingredients from the same source, cooked the same way. You're splitting hairs. I think what you're doing is attempting to be a gigantic smarty pants. It's not a good look.
Great video Gary, your sons videography and sound editing skills continue to make the videos better. You guys are doing really good stuff! Always fun to watch!
Great video Gary. Shame about the wrinkly sausage, happens to the best of us 🤣 On a serious note please do a Morrisons café. They're not amazing in my opinion but they doninate the supermarket breakfast scene.
I thought the rainbow fritter plate looked like a nice veggie option then tried to imagine eating a poached egg with garlic laden guacamole. Maybe not ..... Another varied interesting review thank you 👍 Something different as always
Egg and guacamole is extremely common and a great combo. Just the guacamole in the uk is not authentic and tastes very bland or garlic heavy. Thankfully I live in the USA now
Hi Gary, It just seems to me that a simple breakfast should be very easy to get right, but to get it wrong and charge so much is just not excusable, great review Gary, you got it spot on, Thankyou for another great review!
Supermarkets are a terrible place to work for here in the UK. I did 10 years in one and it battered me mentally. The best thing I did was leave. Wouldn’t surprise me if the cafe staff in this one suffer like I did, which would explain the low quality food. A great and honest review as always Gary. Woof Woof. 🐶
Many supermarket staff get little or no formal training but are taught on the job in the kitchen. Some may have some catering experience but it is not a requirement. A lot of the food is pre-prepared and/or frozen. As someone else commented, it is basically cafeteria/canteen food. The quality can vary from store to store.
I work for them, 10 hour nightshifts, and it's bloody hard work, people who think it's just "shelf filling" have no idea. Retirement in 2 years, I can't wait
Hey Gary I went to the Argentinian restaurant in Battersea you recommended at the weekend and I told the waitress it was because I'd seen your recommendation on UA-cam. She remembered you filming there last week and said there's a free meal on the house for you giving the place a great plug. The empanadas were great btw. Oooh I didn't realise Waitrose has a café. Interesting. The fritters look a bit burnt. Weird combination for brekkie. I don't think I'll be trying this place after seeing this video. 😂
@@tanagra2 Someone who follows Gary's recommendation wouldn't be a grifter, rather they appreciated Gary's views as most here would. @pureb7235 I hope your experience was equal or better, I've personally followed Gary's recommendations and I too was lucky it matched his points. As Gary says, although unacceptable to provide poor quality service, food and presentation, it can happen so you can only judge on the day.
Thanks for the review as always Gary. Looks like that food has been thrown in the oven to cook and then left on a hot plate to save them having to make more later.
Gary you are turning me into a virtual food critic! Firstly what the hell was that first plate all about? Salad, avocado, poached eggs, fritters that belong as a side dish to some sort of curry, not good. Then the main brekkie, that all looked like the breakfasts you used to buy at a motorway services, each item separately that cost an arm and a leg and had been under a lamp for ages. Not what I'd expect from a range topping super market at all. I agree whole heartedly with your score of 4/10. Looking forward to your next outing. 👌👍
My dad and I have to agree. Our local Waitrose in Exeter is a bit hit and miss when it comes to the breakfast. It has declined even further because it used to have a really nice sourdough toast that came with it. One more I would like to add, the bowl seems to be standard as it is also like that in Exeter.
I love that the mushroom is the first thing you mention on the plate. As a hero glaring at their nemesis 😂. I’ve been to this exact Waitrose Cafe. Terrible stuff. People rave about it too!
Not sure if people aware but supermarket restaurants are notorious for using food that is on its last sell by date or even a day past, therefore the quality not top notch. Also most of it not cooked to order so eggs and sausage left under warmers hence the wrinkly sausage….
Gary, you should take a trip down south at some point. Plenty of wonderful pubs with good food, and some fantastic restaurants. I'm near Chichester and there's plenty around here, especially breakfasts! Love your videos and admire the honesty. Never change!
Hi Gary been watching your videos for a while now and just created a google account so thought I would comment😊. You’re doing a great job, enjoying watching them. You have a nice manner and do balanced critique and you are just being yourself with no bull. Keep up the good work . Cheers Colin
My mum shopped at Waitrose for most of my childhood and I never found the products to be any better than the standard offerings from places like Tesco (Tesco Finest for example is nearly always better than Waitrose)...however the food from M and S is definitely a level above
Hi Gary, I've heard of Waitrose, but don't think I ever visited one in previous holidays to the UK... Supermarket or cafe. The breakfast overall looked pretty average. Did you find the constant noise from the checkouts to be a distraction? In Australia, we don't have restaurants within supermarkets. I wonder how popular they are in the UK. Interesting location to visit & it's always good to see where you will pop up for a review because you include such an impressive variety of different places on the channel. Take care Gary & all the best to you & your son, the cameraman. 💙
I imagine they aim to cater to the "hungry shopper', but a shame the quality wasn't better. Also, It's not a clothing review channel 😅, but that shade of blue you wear sometimes really suits you. It's the perfect colour for you. 💙
If Marks and Spencer was on that list you put up, I'd be surprised if it wasn't the most expensive. I've found Waitrose cheap in comparison. Though, I rarely go to either. It would be interesting to see you review them next. Thanks for the great quality content Gary.
Fair and thorough Review Gary - despite the disappointment, totally appropriate the visit- useful for us . An oozing egg does make a difference personally 💯👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻
You know a Town is posh, if it has a Waitrose 😆 Most supermarket Cafe's are dire Gary. They always use cheap ingredients, in fact i'm sure most just use their shops value range.
@@GaryEats My ex wife and I would sometimes go to Zellers , a once popular Canadian department store . Many had restaurants in them with basic fare . She used to always order their Eggs Benedict citing it was the best she ever had. While not gourmet, these establishments fill a need and surly have loyal customers .
Wot no toast? 🍞Scandalous! I didn't even know that Waitrose had a cafeteria! So it's news to me! All my local one has is a set of miserable check out ladies who do not utter a word of greeting & actually look like they might throw a crinkly sausage AT you rather than give you a smile!! Rainbow fritters for breakfast? Oh my. Looked like that breakfast may have been made quite some time before you received it Gary. Shame you had to drive all the way to Dorking to give it a go! x J x (P.S. Like the shirt!)😊👍
@@GaryEats I love the way you mix it up Gary. Posh Nosh, Pub Grub, Burnt Bacon Breakfasts!! Have you done an Afternoon Tea yet? Not a crinkly sausage in sight at those! Must have a scan back through your vids. Who doesn't love a Victorian Aft Tea?! x J x 🍰🎂🍩🍪
Gary, you made me smile when you opened that sauce packet with your teeth. I’ve been known to do the same thing. Btw, I really like your shirt. Blue suits you.
As a Waitrose shopper I’m pleased that my local branch does not have a cafe after seeing your review. The sausages look like they have been standing under a heat lamp for hours. The eggs looked dreadful as did the bacon. I think your score was generous. If ever I see a Waitrose cafe I will steer clear. Thanks Gary.
Sadly like most things these days , standards have fallen rock bottom as a few years back Waitrose cafe was lovely & food quality high standard , same with M&S cafe use to be a big hit with mums doing their daily shop & meet up with a friend for tea & chat 😊 now it's a miss 😊
Hello our lovely Gary. You're looking a very smart gentleman as usual. A supermarket near me isn't bad but not brill. It feeds a gap and also children eat free in the holidays which is a good thing. We have a Waitrose near me but I don't want to waste my time now visiting after your honest review. Those sausages were pruned. 😂 To be fair the meal looked ok , but I trust you, so I go by your reviews. I really , really appreciate your reviews. Always excellent and honest . I love unsmoked back bacon but not crunchy as it tastes more salty. Thank you so much for your honesty as usual and I'll be staying clear of that place . You were very fair with your score. Thank you for sharing . Thank you for your honesty and both you and Son's hard work. Bless you both sweet x 😊
Thank you so much Maria. I put my best clothes on only to be disappointed by Waitrose, typical eh lol. Do not go, only for a shop - not to the restaurant/cafe. Thanks so much and agreed with you on back bacon!
@@GaryEats lol bless you Gary, you're too good for Waitrose that's for sure. I'll definitely be staying away from them . Thank you again for all your hard work and your Son's too. Brilliant as usual. Have a relaxing evening please sweet x 😊

from my experience Boothes are the best supermarket cafe, their breakfast is wonderful and I think that all the produce is locally sourced too. great review as always and good luck with the next review
I’m lucky enough to have a local community supermarket that has taken market share from the other two major chains by offering high quality value meals. A clever way to enhance every shopping experience. Waitrose should wake up.
My local Sainsbury's makes a very nice Breakfast when I'm treated to it by one of my family! Two sausages, an Egg, two Bacon slices, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Hash Browns, Baked Beans, and Toast, as much as I can manage in one sitting! All the enjoyment for £5.25. Excellent value!
Morrisons USED to have a good restaurant and served decent food, but over the last few years it has degenerated into total chaos and after trying it 2-3 times in the past year I will now never go back.
Depends on location. Their 'big daddy' breakfast used to be very good. But I'll still never get over the breakfast I had about 15 years ago there, brickie I worked with was a little hung over, ordered fish n chips at 8am to sort himself out which is all very well. But...my (deep) fried bread came very fishy 😂
The breakfast at my local Tesco Extra isn't bad at all and good value. What's more you get Lincolnshire sausages (although that could just be because it's in Lincoln which probably helps on that front, lol)
I had a large Full English at Wetherspoons in Birmingham New Street station at the weekend. They were called Lincolnshire sausages, but they were basically gelatinous horse scrotum, packed into a skin and poorly grilled / microwaved. The fried eggs were like Haribo eggs, rock hard, yolk wouldn't move, chewy and tasteless. The missus had Eggs Benedict, which was atrocious. The ham had no flavour, the eggs were straight out of a North American Ice Hockey match, and the Hollandaise tasted like Birds custard. What you had on your plate looks like heaven by comparison 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Always a gamble when it comes to a Supermarket brekki, but when I'm down in the south side of Liverpool, the Morrisons in Speke always hits the mark....a Full English, Toast, Coffee and a paper reading about Liverpool's win the night before. What could be better.....FANTASTICO!!!
Bowl of beans in a bowl of egg n bacon 😂 crazy. Beans in a bowl is daft, slimy eggs is like snot orrible, wrinkly sausage... nuff said, It's very hard to get a good breakfast today, I've found Sainsbo brecky ok and at a fair price but homemade you'll never beat.
Well I'm really surprised at Waitrose dropping the ball , didn't expect that. I'm not normally one for having a full English but I've been touring Hampshire and Dorset so indulged myself this last week. Have to say they really know how to make the best pork sausages in Hampshire 👍
I worked for Waitrose for 5 years as a butcher and fishmonger. In all my working life... absolutely the worst company I have ever worked for. They care not one jot for their "partners" or for their customers Everything in the "cafe" is basically food from the shop floor - reworked and re presented. Everything is cooked in a MerryChef - basically a cross between an air fryer and a microwave. Menus are loaded up on USB sticks - and its press and play. Your poached egg was cooked in a teacup in 2 inches of water in a microwave - no wonder it's slimy. The sausage .. which is the Essential cheapest in the shop, was part roasted part microwaved In fairness .. the Dorking cafe is old style - they are re branding and revamping. But, just the worst place.....
You are correct but to be fair to Waitrose, if you go to Sainsburys or Morry cafes it will be the same. Food will be held on a bain-marie and the ingredients are from the shop floor, just that Waitrose will charge more!! 🤣
I've never understood why supermarkets don't use their own brand produce in the cafe and tell you it's theirs. If they believe it's such a great product isn't this the perfect advert? Or have I answered my own question? 🤔😂
Yes gary i spoke to soon, was on a good run of reviews until now, i thought Waitrose would be better than described, oh well move on to the next one thanks for sharing 😀
i got the tired vibe just by noticing the amount of light bulbs missing or broken. The breakfast was also tired looking. Onion Baji and guac with a poached egg and dip, I might have enjoyed it but it looks and sounds more like a side dish.
Gary, come up to the Lake District for some food reviews! I can recommend a breakfast at booths in Ulverston, lunch at the herdwick cafe in coniston, dinner at the black Labrador near Kendal. You won’t be disappointed!
Hi Gary! I think it really depends who's on shift when it comes to Supermarket cafes/restaurants as I've been to my local Asda and on occasions and there is the odd time where it is a 3/4 out of 10 where as most of the time it's a solid 7 out of 10...love the channel as always...keep it going I see 2025 being a huge jump in subscribers for you...cracking job! 😊
I think you could be completely right it all depends who they put in the kitchen, sometimes it’s good sometimes it’s not. That’s very kind to say as well, thank you very much.
I didn’t even know they had cafés… really appreciate your videos… I have a very restricted diet due to complications from cancer so it gives me pleasure just to watch you eat (and sometimes enjoy 🤣) a meal 👍
Ooh. Catching up on some of Gary’s content. I’m unlikely to go to some of the expensive London restaurants so this is a bit more up my street! Appreciate it when Gary tries some non meat dishes.
Well Gary... Those Sausages looked like they were re-grilled.... Anne-Marie as a former chef spotted this my friend... 'Eagle Eyes' Lol Amazing the difference between some of the big outlets compared with the Lovely little Cafe`s that go over & above !!! Great show yet again Gary !!!
Pre cooked, re heated sausage.. hence the wrinkle effect… 😂. No chargrilling on the tomatoes.. in my experience with supermarket cafes , what you get is subsidised food , like a prison canteen .. 😂. Your basically getting the cheapest range in there food range , but paying top range prices.. Morrisons is probably the best of a bad bunch .. great review Gaz 👍🏼
Thank you very much, Paul and I agree with you regarding the quality of the ingredients used, I have to say that’s really surprising because what they should be using is quality ingredients so customers will go into the supermarket and purchase them

I am thrilled to be the first to give Gary a thumbs-up today! I'm a huge fan of Gary. He is undeniably the most humble food critic I've ever seen, and his bubbly personality is infectious. It never fails to brighten my day. Gary consistently provides honest reviews every time. 👍😊

Great review gary sorry about the food.I’ve not got a good thing to say regarding supermarket restaurants. Haven’t had a decent meal yet. Take care 👍👍
@@MsKyliebabe I so agree with you,well said👏
Gary, I have a really good recommendation for you!!
It is fine dining in a catering college at Westminster Kingsway College
76 Vincent Square
London
SW1P 2PD
This is next to Westminster School playing fields, not far from Victoria train station.
Waitrose are losing the edge .such a pity . M and s now wears the crown . All fur coat and no knickers emporium now . 😢😢😢😢
Haha that's brilliant, thank you Joseph lol
4 was very generous Gary. The sausage would have been pronounced dead at A & E!!
That did make me laugh thank you very much, Mark
Very rare to get a decent grilled tomato these days. . Most barely been exposed to any heat and are sour. Long and slow in an oven with a sprig of rosemary on top - lovely. Everything needs the same amount of attention
I completely agree with you
Or griddled is good 👍
Yeah, you realise how good Gary is, on camera when he allows other friends on the show.
@@TheRidgeChannel . Yes,yes,yes 👍
They would be baked tomatoes then.
That’s not good to hear at all, Hardy, in fact very disappointing and I would imagine very frustrating for you
Yes,that breakfast had been over tanning under hot lights for a while
My favourite breakfast is the buffet at Hilton Park Lane. Exemplary standard for a very demanding clientele. Worth every penny
I would definitely like your breakfast!!
Gary, The sausage alone looked reheated from our view point ! No toast for that price ! Thank you both for the video.
I really appreciate that, thank you ever so much Jerry - shocking food lol
😊 xx
That sounds like a better idea, Margaret xx
Botox, those sausages needed to be resurrected.
When I saw those sausages appear I literally burst out laughing. You do make me laugh lol 😂. Kept a positive spin on it well done.
That’s very kind to say, thank you, Duncan
Worked at Waitrose in a previous life, and I'm not surprised it wasn't up to standard!
Not good to hear
You are right depends which Waitrose you visit it will vary from store to store as the one in Bracknell is great
No problem Frank. I think greasy spoons or other cafes are just much better at producing breakfasts. My first time in a Waitrose cafe and mostly certainly my last
@@GaryEats I totally agree with you, mate!!
He deserves something for his troubles lol
@@gregpies1649 Our Aussie IKEA restaurants aren’t too bad.
Just a really poor effort all round, great minds think alike !

Egg and guacamole is extremely common and a great combo. Just the guacamole in the uk is not authentic and tastes very bland or garlic heavy. Thankfully I live in the USA now

Supermarkets are a terrible place to work for here in the UK. I did 10 years in one and it battered me mentally. The best thing I did was leave. Wouldn’t surprise me if the cafe staff in this one suffer like I did, which would explain the low quality food.
A great and honest review as always Gary.
Woof Woof. 🐶
Thank you so much and woof woof lol
Many supermarket staff get little or no formal training but are taught on the job in the kitchen. Some may have some catering experience but it is not a requirement. A lot of the food is pre-prepared and/or frozen. As someone else commented, it is basically cafeteria/canteen food. The quality can vary from store to store.
You stayed for ten years if it was that bad why did u stay
@@TrayKeI understand that - worked in a supermarket for 20 years - very stressful but better jobs not easy to come by for an untrained working mother

I am so pleased to hear that you are turning into a virtual food critic Kevin well done and we agree on the score
My dad and I have to agree. Our local Waitrose in Exeter is a bit hit and miss when it comes to the breakfast. It has declined even further because it used to have a really nice sourdough toast that came with it. One more I would like to add, the bowl seems to be standard as it is also like that in Exeter.
I really did not like the presentation at all, Philip and please send my regards to your dad
I love that the mushroom is the first thing you mention on the plate. As a hero glaring at their nemesis 😂. I’ve been to this exact Waitrose Cafe. Terrible stuff. People rave about it too!
Do you know me with mushrooms lol 😂
Always good to see you too Gary 😊
Thank you 🙏
Not sure if people aware but supermarket restaurants are notorious for using food that is on its last sell by date or even a day past, therefore the quality not top notch. Also most of it not cooked to order so eggs and sausage left under warmers hence the wrinkly sausage….

That’s great to hear
Well I'm really surprised at Waitrose dropping the ball , didn't expect that.
I'm not normally one for having a full English but I've been touring Hampshire and Dorset so indulged myself this last week. Have to say they really know how to make the best pork sausages in Hampshire 👍
That is fantastic to hear thank you very much Gee
i tried so hard not to laugh at gary's wrinkly sausage haha
*cough* Good one
LOL
I worked for Waitrose for 5 years as a butcher and fishmonger. In all my working life... absolutely the worst company I have ever worked for. They care not one jot for their "partners" or for their customers
Everything in the "cafe" is basically food from the shop floor - reworked and re presented. Everything is cooked in a MerryChef - basically a cross between an air fryer and a microwave. Menus are loaded up on USB sticks - and its press and play. Your poached egg was cooked in a teacup in 2 inches of water in a microwave - no wonder it's slimy. The sausage .. which is the Essential cheapest in the shop, was part roasted part microwaved
In fairness .. the Dorking cafe is old style - they are re branding and revamping. But, just the worst place.....
You are correct but to be fair to Waitrose, if you go to Sainsburys or Morry cafes it will be the same.
Food will be held on a bain-marie and the ingredients are from the shop floor, just that Waitrose will charge more!! 🤣
I think Waitrose use premium sausages in my local. Tasty.
Waitrose are still one of the best supermarkets to shop in. Don't believe me, try half hour in Asda. And I wouldn't touch Lidl or Aldi.😂🤣😅
I used to get good fish, fruit and vegetables from the Tenterden Waitrose.
@@minnielee3399 nothing is held in a chafer or Bain Marie in Waitrose.. its cooked to order, which is why the wait times are so long
Gary, I had to watch your Pellicci’s video again just to get over this monstrosity . Keep up the great work
I have to say, I’m going to watch that as well
In a bowl....woof woof ! haha
Just a bit of fun
I've never understood why supermarkets don't use their own brand produce in the cafe and tell you it's theirs. If they believe it's such a great product isn't this the perfect advert? Or have I answered my own question? 🤔😂
Considering they sell top class produce you would imagine they would make this a loss leader
@@GaryEats it seems a fairly obvious strategy.
Yes gary i spoke to soon, was on a good run of reviews until now, i thought Waitrose would be better than described, oh well move on to the next one thanks for sharing 😀
It was a bit of a letdown Lee, but onwards and upwards
It can't be worse than the vegetarian breakfast I had at ikea the other week
I take it that was not very good Lou
Tell me more Lou, I used to like a veggie breakfast at ikea but that was decades ago
It was luke warm and very bland
@@Lou_Sass That's a pity, when they first opened in Scotland the breakfasts were great value and tasty
bowls are for doggies not for garys ... next tshirt
I do say some very strange things
i got the tired vibe just by noticing the amount of light bulbs missing or broken. The breakfast was also tired looking. Onion Baji and guac with a poached egg and dip, I might have enjoyed it but it looks and sounds more like a side dish.
I thought the whole offering was very disappointing, especially the rainbow fritter breakfast
They just stick “rainbow” in the title of the dish to appeal to the LGBTQ+ (alphabet soup) brigade.
That's strange, I put a similar comment that was removed. Perhaps Gary is more intouch with his lgbgtv side than we realised.
Avocado for breakfast all you need is some nice sourdough bread .
And freshly ground black pepper❣️
@@melanytodd2929 Absolutely
Oh yes
Gary, come up to the Lake District for some food reviews! I can recommend a breakfast at booths in Ulverston, lunch at the herdwick cafe in coniston, dinner at the black Labrador near Kendal. You won’t be disappointed!
I will be going up that way in about eight weeks time
@@GaryEats excellent! If you want any more recommendations drop me a message :)
You heard it here first, Gary’s sausage goes all crinkly after being in the shower too long 😂 (14:50).
I go wrinkly!! lol
M&S is better than Waitrose these days
I will find out very soon
@GaryEats all the best Gary...Eastbourne awaits you! 😀
I didn’t even know they had cafés… really appreciate your videos… I have a very restricted diet due to complications from cancer so it gives me pleasure just to watch you eat (and sometimes enjoy 🤣) a meal 👍
That is very kind to say, Andy and I wish you all the very best with your recovery
Unfortunately, I think Anne-Marie could be completely right, thank you very much to you both as always for watching and commenting
