Definitely Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Whenever I am down, I always turn to that book. Whenever I am in a reading slump, I always read it. It never fails to warm my heart, along with Carry On.
I've always been quite opposed to audiobooks as I like to use different voices in my head as I read, BUT after watching this and finding out Rachel Mcadams has read for an audiobook I'm tempted to go give them a second shot. I absolutely love her haha.
Harry Potter and Jane Austen are definitely comfort books for me as well, I think I should add Wonder to the list as well, it was such a sweet story and the end juste made me so happy !
I find it so charming how much adoration people have when they talk about Harry Potter. I never read it during my childhood but I just read the first one for the first time ever last week and ADORED it. But the series that was my friend and something I used to escape in a hard time in my life will always be the Shadowhunter Chronicles (I even have a rune tattoo) great video!
I struggled with insomnia for so long and the one thing that helps me sleep every time is listening to the audio book of the Harry potter books! I totally get the soothing aspect of audio books!
I knew nothing about Anne of Green Gables until August 2017 when I was in a stage adaptation of it and I played Josie Pye lol. The world and story is so sweet, I loved the story.
I've read and loved all the contemporary romances that popped up on the screen except Let's Talk About Love, so adding it to my tbr! And now I must download the Anne of Green Gables audiobook!
Harry Potter for sure 🙋🏼♀️ Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice, and Emma are also my go to’s. 💛 (we share so many of the same books haha) Ender’s Game is also a book I’ve read countless times, like I don’t even know how many. Absolutely adore that book. I also do the thing where I have to listen to a calming audio-book if I can’t sleep. These days I’ll just skip to a random place in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and it really works. It’s always just a scene with Lara Jean baking cookies is something. 💛
I would say my comfort reads are manga series I loved and completed. It's an easy quick (re)read that reminds me of my highschool years that are dear to me. I also like to listen to my favourites UA-cam videos while I'm struggling to sleep.
Have you watched Austenland? It's a loose P&P retelling, set at this manor house where you get an immersive Jane Austen experience. You wear old-fashioned clothes and they give your character a whole storyline. It's a really sweet fun film, and the whole premise is a dream for Jane fans!
I have a lot of Comfort reads, particularly one from my childhood which is "Gingersnaps" by Cathy Cassidy. I read it at the perfect time in my life and related to everything: the school experience, the bullying, everything. My other top comfort read is "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell. I relate to Cath's anxiety and feelings toward her mental health so much, especially this last year. But aside from that, her relationship with Levi is completely adorable. I also feel like "The Night Circus" shall soon become a comfort read
You're so relatable! I started to read kind a bit after graduating college, but I only focus on non-fiction books for information and motivation but after watching a lot of booktubers they got me into fiction books! And now I am so open to read whatever book that is! 😊
Love this, and certainly need at the moment! Anne of Green Gables is also a comfort read to me because of nostalgia and cause I’m originally from where the book is set, and so if I’m ever homesick or need childhood memories to make me feel better, it’s a go-to
Hey Zoe! I just wanted to say that your videos are super fun and enjoyable to watch, and you’re always so sweet! Thank you for being such a great booktuber and for your contribution to the community. Big love from Portugal!
I guess we kind of have the same emergency reads. And also the same go to movies but my favorite is the BBC mini series of pride and prejudice. Don't know how many times I've seen it. It always works when you're feeling down. But I have to get to her other books! Got the whole penguin clothbound box of Jane Austen for Christmas. Planning to start with Emma =)
I read Anne Of Green Gables when I was at primary but I can't really remember what happened so you've reminded me that I should give it a reread! Also I don't normally read contemporary so thanks for the recs, I'm hoping to read more of that genre this year. 😊
Glad to say that we are the same Zoe. Since You've been gone is the book which I was reading during my freshman year. And Yeah I also see myself in Eimily as well.
Definitely Pride & Prejudice, I have read it once a year since I was 16, I’m 31 now lol. The first HP and I just finished the first book of The Magicians and I feel like that’s going to be one I reread often as well.
I think it’s pretty safe to say that for all of us Harry Potter is definitely on the list of comfort books for us! But a couple more of mine are the selection series by Kiera cass, because I read it when I was like 13 and it really sparked my love of reading again. I also love clockwork angel just because I love that trilogy more than anything it’s so dang good! That’s all I can think of right now but I love your videos Zoe! This one was great for some reading recommendations
My holidays have just started and I love how zoe keeps uploading videos. Like I just saw her last video in the morning and bought 3 new books recommended by her and one more book today. I have been reading 3 books already and I have soo many books to read but yet here I am for more recommendations !
What's crazy to me is how much my taste aligns with yours. Everything you listed off are comfort reads to me too! I even have a collection of Anne of Green Gables with different illustrations and covers. I probably 5 different ones right now. If you love Lizzie Bennet Diaries, check out Green Gables Fables. It is a UA-cam adaptation as well. Season 1 covers AoGG, but season 2 is Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island, which I think you said was on your TBR. It is so good!
two videos within 24 hours, a dream coming true! thanks for these recommendations, i'll definitly read at least one of these books whenever i'm feeling down just to cheer me up!
Harry Potter accompanied me through my whole primary-school time and 'The Philosopher's Stone' was the first book I've ever read in my live. ❤ Now, after 10 years, I am rereading it for the first time and I couldn't adore it more. 😍
My comfort book is also Harry Potter series. I listen to the audiobooks read by Stephen Fry all the time. I mean all the time. To fall asleep, to concentrate to study, to fill the house with sound when I’m alone etc etc. Stephen Fry might as well be living with me. Really.
I love Contemporary Romances! They help me get through my depression, and they just help me get through everyday! And OMG WE DO NEED A SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE MOVIE!
Percy Jackson is definitely my ultimate comfort book! I would read them all throughout sixth grade, and I grew up with Percy. I’m currently listening to all of the Percy books, and it’s still so good ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would definitely say that the Percy Jackson series connects with me as the Harry Potter series does with you. They were characters I could relatw with and grow with. By far the best series I've ever read.
Contemporary romance is definitely my emergency reads genre. It’s definitely not my favorite genre, but when I’m bored or sad or whatever, reading about those kinds of things is uplifting and funny
Well, I come back to my old faves too. I used to go around with The Eyes of my Princess by Carlos Ruiz Zafon all the time when I was from 13 to 15, it was my best friend, sometimes I still search for it's wisdom. Another one is This Song Will Safe Your Life by Leila Sales, it really helped me during a hard time. I come back to Anne of Green Gables too! I love those books as my own family, they always light up my day when I read them. Recently I like listening to The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett When I can't sleep. I love going into my favorite moments of The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series by Carlos Ruiz Zafon too, it's one of my favorites, also relate with Pride and Prejudice, I love reading it with some tea to intensify the brittishness
Harry Potter and Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children are my comfort series' and I will always love them both. It's amazing how you can open a book, and suddenly be home again.
I Looved this video :) Jane Austen is the best comfort read, i just know it's gonna make me feel better, i only have Persuasion left to read. Btw I also do that with The Lizzie Bennet Diaries! I've rewatched it more times than i care to admit, but my real obsession is the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice mini series, it's so good!
Oh my god, you are hilarious... I love your videos! My emergency read is twilight fanfiction. Whenever I don't know what to read, not because I don't have books enough but because I don't know what I'm in the mood for I go back to fanfiction... even at 38... after a couple of stories I can come back and read a new book. Thanks for the vids!
My favorite comfort reads are The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis, Emma by Jane Austen, and Victoria by Daisy Goodwin (The audiobook version is amazing!).
My emergency reads are Anna and the French Kiss I have listened to the audiobook five times. Also Abundance of Kathrines by John Green I have read it three times.
My emergency reads include Harry Potter, A Knight In Shining Armor as well as Legend (both by Jude Deveraux), any of Maeve Binchy's books, Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, Psalms in the Bible, Tamora Pierce's books, and a long list of other books that I find myself returning to. I also love the 2005 edition of Pride and Prejudice which I watch quite a bit and the score for it is amazing! I have also watched Sense and Sensibility (the edition with Alan Rickman) I don't know how many times because it's so great! Speaking of adaptations, I also enjoy watching P.S. I Love You and the book which is by Cecelia Ahern is also wonderful too. Sometimes there's just no such thing as rereading or watching comfort material because each time is just as wonderful! I really should do a reread and rewatch on some favorites soon!
Emergency Contact sounds like it'll be a good read! Yesss Morgan Matson. Since You've Been Gone is also my favorite! The Shadowhunter books are also comfort reads for me. :)
Harry Potter and Percy Jackson books are definitely my go to books when I am feeling really anxious or sad or lonely. I am finally reading Cassandra Clare’s books now so maybe those will become comfort books one day!
The end of my first year of college has been literally kicking my butt and this video was soso helpful because it gave me so many options for some much needed comforting reads 💕
I totally get the Shadowhunters one! I have exams coming up and in periods like this I get this urge to pick up City of Bones and read the entire Mortal Instruments series again. This always happens!
I relate to everything that you said about Harry Potter 💜. It is pretty much always my comfort read. Sometimes I'll just throw on the audiobook because I feel like it.
The 2005 Keira Knightly version is my favourite as well! I just swoon thoroughly the whole movie. I’ve watched that movie so many times I’ve lost count! 😂 Some of my comfort reads are Percy Jackson (childhood favourites), Graceling (it got me started into fantasy ya), obviously Harry Potter ⚡️, Anne of Green Gables, and ANY Jane Austen book.

Definitely Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Whenever I am down, I always turn to that book. Whenever I am in a reading slump, I always read it. It never fails to warm my heart, along with Carry On.
Create&Dream Me too! I absolutely adore it. I also used to read The Host when I was down, which is kinda weird, but I loved it haha
2 videos within 24 hours!
😊
Does that mean I have an excuse to read Harry Potter again even though I have too many books screaming at me to read them? Yay!
Ummm of COURSE! You never need an excuse to read HP hehe 💕
Uh, Tell those books who is boss. I might even advise you give them a significant hand gesture. Read what you want.
Same😂😂
Thankyou. :-)
I think no excuse is required to reread Harry Potter over and over again !! ;)
I loved this a lot. This video was comforting (:
