Fun drinking game: Take a shot every time Violet and Dain refer to each other as “my best friend” whilst exhibiting absolutely no friendship chemistry at any point. You’ll die!
Or when she brings up the old days when they climbed trees together!
Yes. So much this. I don't get why the author did not just have them get together for a bit, fuck, and then fall out. That would have made so much more sense.
or when she references him saying the college “stripes away the niceties”
this book is so bad, I don't get why it has a 4.6+ rating... like yes it was entertaining and a fast read but it doesn't deserve anything more than 4.0
I feel like it was more so because they had history together. I don’t know if you have people in your life that you kept around just because you’ve known them a long time, but it doesn’t really make any sense that you’re still friends or “best” friends just based on length of time rather than substance.
My biggest issue with this book was that the dragons felt so secondary to the romance, like it was technically romantasy but the romance was underlined and bolded, like the fantasy was whispered.
such a funny description LOL, very true though.
Like it was written to hop on the trend and get that money. Just like Divergent.... Written fast, half thought through.@@newlynova
So what though? Why can’t the fantasy just be backdrops?
@@pobbityboppity1110I’m not yucking anyone else’s yum, but for me, I don’t prefer that (hence “MY biggest issue”)
give the aurelian cycle a try :)
Violet spewing facts when she's scared is so fishlegs coded omg
What does fishleg coded mean?
@@Sarahhh123 Fishlegs is a character from the franchise How To Train Your Dragon and basically he always would spew random facts when he's stressed and Violet does the same thing lollll, so I'm just saying she reminds me of Fishlegs a lot. Hope that helps :)
Omg you understand me
OMG yes
You summed up my thoughts exactly! Like was it revolutionary? No. But it was just a fun freakin time 😂 The author has said the writing style and especially dialogue is intentionally modern or “low brow” because it was intended to be a good beginner fantasy for romance readers who struggle to get into the genre which I know bugs a lot of fantasy readers.
Yes! Fourth wing got me out of a SEVEN YEAR READING SLUMP. I've read 14 books in the past 2 months since then. I can't stop. I love reading again. I'm so glad I had such a light, fun, encaptivating read as my starter 😅 I feel like I'm 15 again!
Kind of rich, considering that it's also the author's first attempt to "get into the genre"
I had moments where I was over the book in the first half but I pushed through because I wanted to know what happens. Since I finished it already I am reading it again catching things I missed in the first go I really enjoyed the book
@@kylerclarke2689 She probably took the things she had trouble with getting into the genre and used it in her own work. Nothing rich about it except herself after her success.
it was fun.And then Liam died 🥲
"Protagonist motivated by the thought that rebellion killed her older brother only to turn out her older brother is actually leading rebellion now" is the exact plot twist that happens in Red Queen and so if Brennan makes it out of these books actually alive I'll eat my hat
Ill eat my hat.... beautiful
exact same plot twist in divine rivals as well just a diff font!!
i noted the same thing too!! its a clear copy basically
i love how blatantly this book copies red queen
Spoilers, my guy! I just started reading that book today, and now you've swept the entire rug out from under me!
Okay I think the Insta-love after the sex is because it’s Mormon. They have to love each other forever now lol
underrated comment lmaooo
Damn, the mormons strike again
As a member, 1000% agree
Also the violence vs violet thing...i laughed out loud when that happened bc it was so cute but then at the end of the book when serious things were happening he was still calling her that!! Like dude now is not the time
😂😂😂
OMG THIS BOTHERED ME SO MUCH!!! Especially when they were in a serious BATTLE.
I saw an official merch shirt that literally just has Violence in big letters with the dragons below it. So baffling if you don't know the context. I was confused until I remembered fourth wing existed 😂
LITERALLY
To be fair, there was this really hot boy in college named Chris, and he was from Canada. I’ve called him Canada ever since and so do all my girlfriends. And we’re good friends.
Ironically the two chapters at the end of Fourth Wing and Iron Flame from Xaden's pov give us more about him as a character than any of Violet's horny a** thoughts throughout both books
Seriously
I honestly think the romance moved too fast. Specially knowing that there will be four more books.
I AGREE, like towards the end of fourth wing I feel like her emotions for him were too lovey dovey still. Like she could’ve hated him more and longer 😭😭
4 more books?
I read The Fourth Wing like a week ago and tbh when I read a book that's clearly meant solely for a fun time I don't think much about it. It's just fun and vibes. I only realized how absurd some of the things in the book really are after you started giving your review😂 But you're completely right and I don't even care. I had a hell of a good time reading and that's all I care about.
My thoughts exactly! It want a masterpeice or anything, and a lot of the fantasy aspects were in the background. Not to mention the plot felt fairly predictable, but it was a fun and quick read. :D
I could not agree more!
Fun, fluffy things can be original and well-written. This drivel is derivative shite. It's a cliché storm, filled with stolen ideas -- not inspired by, just lifted wholesale from other stories. The plot is stupid, the characters are terrible, the world-building sucks, and the prose is laughably awful. Not a single original thought was had. People need to have better standards, even for escapism.
@@Goldi_Kati really liked 1st book but 2nd let me down. Violet/Xaden relationship moved too fast in 1st book. They became so toxic in 2nd book. And she lost all of her brain cells i think when she wanted to know all the secrets. Lets hope 3rd will be better than 2nd
@@christiegreenwood2642this comment sounds so miserable lol
“Is this book going to be winning any Hugo Awards? Absolutely not. Is this book winning my fan fiction wattpad-loving heart? Yes! It’s so much fun!” 💯
To me this is the perfect blurb summary of the book if someone asks me about it. I rolled my eyes so many times, but there were also a couple of moments when I literally fist pumped while I was reading. 😂
This book has me convinced that good marketing can turn mediocrity into a sensation. I’m guessing they just paid a bunch of booktockers.
My theory is that they just sent a TON of arcs out - I got two completely unsolicited. Just very aggressive marketing
Actually, there are many., many people loved this book; I suggest you get over it. I'm sure the author is crying all the way to the bank over your opinion...lol
@@amythompson6431lol you are missing the point so badly
@@ink8027 Nope...lol
@@amythompson6431 people loving a book =/= the book isn’t mediocre
I 100% agree, Fourth Wing is written for the girlies that were obsessed with Divergent in 2012-2014. It's a *slightly* more mature version of the YA books that were popular back then with a "fun" world and more magic. Violet is Tris, Xaden is Four, the parapet is the chasm, etc. And I absolutely loved reading it.
Wait no why is that actually so true
Yes, as a huge fan of divergent and hunger games this felt like a mesh of the two, but better.
I love this review cause it's basically how I felt about it. I had so much fun reading while also being like wow some of this is hilarious in an awkward way.
Thats so true
I am a heavy fantasy reader, and I have to say Fourth Wing gave my brain the break it needed! The plot and characters were fun to go along with, and it was an easy and fun read! I think many went into this book thinking it would be more "high" fantasy and filled with politics and elaborate language, and I can see how this wouldn't have been their cup of tea. But I went in blind, and I enjoyed is so much! At the end of the day, every person has a different taste in books, writing styles and plots/tropes, and thats okay!
yes! i thought it was very fun, as a fellow avid fantasy reader
babe you are quite literally the ONLY book reviewer i watch. your reviews are so thorough and (girl i got adhd), you speak fast and straight to the point and i love it. looking forward to more videos !
such a great review!!! and yeah i feel like books can be a victim of their own popularity/hype when they start being picked up by readers they aren’t meant for. i’m not a romantasy reader and don’t plan on reading this book but i feel like a lot of the criticism and hate is far too serious for how unserious of a book it sounds like it is lmao
I know on a fundamental level that this book is not a brilliant, one of a kind, groundbreaking sort of book, but THE WAY IT HAS TAKEN OVER MY LIFE. Like, I don't remember being this obsessed over anything (Harry Potter doesn't count, I will live in that world til the stay I die). I have read it 3 times this year. I love the characters and... I don't know. This thing is like a drug. I KNOW it's not that good, BUT I ENJOY IT SO MUCH.
THIS IS EXACTLY IT I feel like I’m 14 again when I’m reading it and obsessing over it
@@elizahall9689 It's crazy to me how I feel exactly the same!
Literally same ! 😂
I kinda feel like it’s the twilight of my late 20s! It’s so fun to read!
SAME!!
Woooow you speak my language. It is so great to see someone who can have fun reading and also acknowledge it's not a master piece without being above it all.
Ah yes, my college major: getting ass and investigating secrets
One thing I hate about fourth wing is the blatant plagiarism. Violet has silver-tipped hair, lightning powers, a brother who she thought was dead but turns out to be alive and part of a rebellion. Sound familiar? That’s literally Mare Barrow from Red Queen. And don’t even get me started on how Xaden is literally Rhys from ACOTAR and some of the other characters have the same names from Throne of Glass. Rhiannon and Brennan? Really? Both of those names are in Throne of Glass. And sooo much more😂 but it def was a fun read.
I’ve been binge reading A Song Of Ice And Fire and needed a break from GRRM’s complex writing and worldbuilding that kept some of the fantasy elements and Fourth Wing achieved that goal for me. Different books have different purposes and as long as a book does what you need it to it’s a good book for you
Same, except Fourth Wing made me want to go back to ASOIAF more than ever lmaooo
@@Nancy-ff5trfelt this
Literally exactly what I did. It was exactly what I was hoping for.
Yes! I haven’t read much in the past few years because of life stuff, but I used to be an avid reader. (Avid as in reading 2-3 books a week easily) This was a perfect way to satisfy my recent reading hyperfixation without overloading me with random details and worldbuilding.
Also on that train of thought, y’all have any more dragon fantasy recommendations? I know of wings of fire, but not really anything else.
@@MoonlitBookworm73 Talon, Firelight, How to Shape a Dragon's Breath (haven't read this one yet but has solid reviews), Eragon (being a classic), and Dragon Rider are all dragon books that I have on my own personal shelf!
I categorize this as a fun popcorn book. I really enjoyed myself while reading it. I was giggling and kicking my feet but it is no where close to being the best book of the year or cracking a top spot for me.
for me it was the fact that the whole book was from Violet perspective AND JUST ONE CHAPTER from Xaden pov????? It was so messy.... Great blog💗
Okay this review is perfect for me. Like exactly how I feel. Was it LIFE-CHANGING? Absolute not. However, it was daaaamn fun. And sometimes that’s all ya need!
The divergent comparison is fantastic. Fourth Wing gave me the exact same feelings that divergent, hunger games, etc gave me the first time i read them. The nostalgia! I have been searching and longing for this feeling. Was fourth wing the best book ever? No. But i had a fantastic time reading it, i couldn‘t put it down!
It hurts my heart slightly that Hunger Games and Divergent are considered equivalent in the same sentence, but I hear you.
@@colleen6644 only because of the nostalgia! Like i had such a good time reading them, and I searched for that „high“ for so long and found this good time in fourth wing. Regarding the „craftmanship“ of the authors, these books are totally different! I hope you understand what I mean 🙈
you’re my favorite booktoker and now my new favorite youtuber💜💜
God this review was a breath of fresh air, I was down the rabbit hole debating if I should get this book or not because people were picking it apart and yet it only became more enticing . . . if you look at the comments on those videos everyone is like "what did you expect from booktok" and "I had terrible taste when I was 16 too" and just overall trashing on people who like this book (as well as misunderstanding WHY people might like it). I love your take, which is it's fun, and that's not for everyone. I'm getting the impression that Yarros speedrun the writing of this book (she's got six other titles she's releasing this year) and personally, that only raises the book higher in my opinion because how many people can crank out a book AND make it entertaining and enthralling for readers on such a wide scale? If people put it in the proper context, I think they would enjoy it more or at least see it for what it is.
I’m happy I went in blind. I laughed out loud for so many scenes and had a blast reading. I even shedded a tear 😅
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I loved this book it was probably the most fun I had while reading a book for a looooong time. Sometimes I don’t want to have deep thoughts and to be deciphering complicated prose. Sometimes I just want fun entertainment. And fourth wing delivered
You speak my mind! The main character constantly goes: oh he’s so hot and sexy within a dark setting just makes me laugh out loud and cringe at the same time 😂
Another insane thing was how more than 3 relic baring characters went on a mission (the war game) together, which is against the rules in the book, but hardly anything was said about it. Like what were they gonna say after they got back from the mission 😂. Still loved the book tho 💕 also loved your thoughts on the book 💕
I suppose the argument could be that they weren’t alone there you know? If I’m remembering correctly it was three or more alone, so I suppose you could get away with it because Violet is there and she doesn’t have the relic.
I also think that the goal was for them all to get killled, because they were giving weapons away to the “enemy”.
Yes. They were also on a mission I think the rule applied for when they were 'at ease' or whatever they call it when they are chilling
Honestly, I relate to so many words that come of your mouth about books. And I hope you love this as much as I did 😂
You're my new favorite person on the internet and I trust everything you say
Violet is giving Aline from Shadow and Bone and Dain is giving Gale from Hunger Games
Couldn’t have said any of this better myself. I give the book 5 stars. 4 because it was a blast and the 5th because dragons
I feel the exact same way that the romance in this happened WAY too fast, like not enough scenes or enough of knowing each other for that
Just wanted to say I absolutely adore your content! Your editing, your humor, your portrayals of books, all wonderful and definitely my new fave!! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Your comparison to the divergent and saying whoever liked that would also like fourth wing is very accurate, I absolutely LOVED both. The books were just very fun and gave me an absolutely great time
I wanna read it so bad but it lost me when I read that she had naturally sliver tipped hair
LMAO yes this is valid
Lollll I never saw anyone else point this out, but yes that’s impossible because the whole hair strand grows from the same shaft, so it wasn’t producing melanin and then started producing it after it grew out some… but then if she ever cuts her hair, she’d just have black hair and no more silver.
Or if it did grow silver again, it would be silver at her roots 😂
I DIED when The Cruel Prince crept up🤣🤣🤣 Could not agree more.
I loved the dragons in this book but I went in with way too high of expectations and ended up hating everything else. I agree with everything you said at the end of the video and unfortunately for me, I’m in the girli camp that couldn’t get past the cringe😅
this is a fantastic review but also. I hate it here because now you've convinced me I might actually like this book 😭
Crazy this was made 9 months ago and I just saw it pop up on my suggested section, right after a bunch of my friends read this and have not stopped posting about it! Lexi never lets me down with the reviews, you're the best, never change!
your first video came on my recommended today and i’m so happy it did! i’d never seen you before and now you’re one of my favorite booktubers!!!!! ❤❤
The book itself was pretty fun, but I'm kind of scared for the rest of the series considering that Iron Flame came out so fast. Hoping and praying that the series continues to be fun
This is word for word what I told my friends. This book was my fanfiction dream and nothing else. And I love it
I just started the audiobook and when they said what Dain’s signet power was I immediately got the ick. Had to pause it 😅
Love you!
I agree with everything you said except the way you say dragon (respectfully). I listened to this as an audiobook, and I think that’s sometimes a decent cure for the wattpad-level cringe-writing. Hearing an actual person commit to the dialogue goes a long way in terms buy-in for me. Regardless, I, too, am bulletproof. I will prevail in the face of prosaic nonsense masquerading as depth for the sake of an interesting plot. Every time.
I told my friend it was like an Eragon/Hunger Games mix bc that’s how I felt reading it, but I definitely get the Divergent comparison, too! Btw I found you on TikTok and I love that you’re on UA-cam now ❤
Was surprised when you mentioned your pronunciation of dragon because I didn't hear anything different, but then you mentioned Wisconsin and I was like "oh... I'm also from Wisconsin. That's why" lol
Yess, about a popular book sometimes just not being right for you! Each person has their own unique taste and what works for most sometimes just doesn’t work for you. I thought about reading Fourth Wing because o FOMO but I think it’s not my book. Thank you for this video!!
thank you for doing a spoiler free review and time stamping it!
Love your TikTok’s and so happy to have these long form reviews here. Super fair review of fourth wing! I gave it around the same rating because it was just a good time!
Violet helpfully infodumping when she’s scared was so fucking funny like 😭😭could you not have thought of any other way to tell us that information?
Found you after watching your vid about loving My Dark Vanessa and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow (Which are also my favorite books ever) so naturally I had to sub. Then you go and upload this while I'm in the middle of reading it! Definitely, my new favorite booktuber I love how fast you talk and the editing keep it up :))
Wow, your review is literally how I felt about this book. Spot on. Could not have summed it up better myself and I love your energy and attitude. Subscribed!
the scalp prickling thing the author writes every time xaden is in the vicinity KILLED ME
I love love how you talk about books :) You're really different from other UA-camrs I'm so happy I found you!
The little creep up from From Blood and Ash earned you a shiny new sub. lol. excited for this era for me
I love your reviews ans opinions in general. Not a single video swayed me on A Little Life until I seen your video saying you haven't read it because you don't want to be ruined and I ordered it that night 🤣 I trust you with all the book recs!
I love how honest you are about it not being the most amazing piece of literature but also being a fun time. You’ve convinced me to read it 😂
youre literally my fav youtuber
So happy you got a youtube account, I've been following you on tiktok and longer content from you is *chef's kiss*. Excited to see this channel grow !
Fourth Wing is like that ex that you can’t stop thinking about because there were fun moments, but you’re so glad you broke up.
Anyone notice how Violet never ever loses an argument, even when she's obviously wrong? That's what killed this book for me. To enjoy this, you HAVE to imagine yourself as the Mary Sue MC and mentally be a total narcissist with a serious chip on your shoulder. Otherwise, its impossible to put up with her for like 200k words
I need you to read iron flame asap and give the thoughts in your head because I love love LOVED this review. (And these books are currently my only personality trait for the foreseeable future and I need more content on them)
Loved your review, I agree with so much. It is fun, but there was a lot that I questioned. I'm just glad this is getting people reading and maybe interested in a new genre. :)
I love that you flesh out your thoughts and feelings so much because so many people just yea or neh without any good reasons. Now I know I don’t have to read this because I’ve definitely read it before lol
You’re literally my favorite person right now
BISH this vlog was everything! 😂 love it!
I don’t mean this in a weird way, but I could listen to you talk about books forever 😅 this video was SO ENTERTAINING, and I couldn’t agree more with everything that was said
I appreciate you saying everything that I was thinking. This is the book review I needed
watching your videos while doing algebra and history notes has become one of my favorite things
So I loved Fourth Wing, but so curious to hear other peoples thoughts. This is the first video of yours i'm watching and I really love the way you talk about it and im instantly following!
Yooo my dad recently bought a copy and gave it to me saying he really liked the book when he listened to the audio version. I never read it nor even took a look about what it was about since I wasn’t really interested in starting any new books at the time. Later another UA-camr I like referred to it as “a fantasy smut novel.” I gave that book back to him asap…
Omg I am genuinely obsessed. Hello, fellow Wisconsinite! Your vlog inserts? *chefs kiss* Your editing and style? *confetti* and i love hearing your thoughts!!
IMMEDIATELY SUBSCRIBED
absolutely obsessed with u saying "dray-gen" /srs ❤️
Yess this is just a fun book for the girlies. It also helped me get over a slump when I could barely read a 100 page novella for months
I watched a lot of vlogs and reviews for this but yours is the first one that actually pushed me to read it. 😅 I am 55% sure I won't like this but I'd love to experience this for myself just because you seemed to have a lot of fun reading it. 😊
This is the kind of book that makes me want to hear an asexual reviewer's opinion
Like, if you take out the "hotness" of the characters, steamy flirting, hormonal logic, and smut (if there is any) is this still enjoyable?
instant follow! Love everything about this summary :D You worded my thoughts actually so well!
I stopped before the spoilers because now I want to read Fourth Wing so thank you for that. Also: I was misled by every book reader I know IRL on ACOTAR so I have higher hopes for Fourth Wing. I still haven't finished the first ACOTAR book. >_
This video is so validating! Love your content ❤
I thought this was a really kind and relevant review! A friend pitched this to me as „groundbreaking, amazing AND gritty!“ - while knowing the context that I do not really love romance and really like Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
I am so happy people enjoy it! But I could and should have saved the money, the moment I read thit back text and though „oh god this sounds like a mistake“.
There is an alternative universe version that would eat this up. But the present universe version… had thought about replacing the Love interests names and pronouns with female ones and reading it as well written W/W erotica-esque fantasy trash.
so thankful for you and your content❤
Your review fully captured all my thoughts about this book. Really appreciated your take that it’s not meant to take too seriously, and you can poke a billion holes into something and still find it silly, fun, and worth a read just for the vibes. Plus, her dragons are 100% the best part of the book!
i wasn't into reading until few weeks ago so needless to say i haven't seen any book review videos or recommendations until now and have to say your videos are so fun, thank you
Love your pointing out on the disability rep!! The EDS is just so well handled, and so real from RY (who has the condition)
I've not finished the book yet (I finally gave into my fomo and peer pressure) so I'll come back tomorrow but I have to say this.
While it is by no means a great book, and while I have many many issues with multiple things, I am having fun reading it. I do have some hopes for the future plot but idk if the author is intentionally leaving these clues or if I just read to much and know which plot/world building tropes I enjoy. A little bit of wishful thinking.
Far too much focus on the romance and "friendship" though, gimme more dragons!
We love this for you❤
Hi I really like your review on this one! I am one of those people that needed a break from romance and picked this book because I heard it was popular. I liked it a lot, and it reminded me of Divergence which I LOVED growing up. You did a really good job explaining it and I really appreciate your review. Thanks for sharing 🤍🤍
It sure changed my mind! I loved it!!!!!!!!!
I’m sold!
looooove the way you pronounce dragon!! itches my brain
my older sister in law recommended/bought me a copy of fourth wing and when i finally sat down and read it, i blasted through it in like 3 days (fast for me lol). it definitely was activating my soft spot for just a fun, not too complicated, tropey, fantasy romance book. loved your review and can't wait to see your thoughts on iron flame if you decide to continue with the series! ♡
Vibes are so cozy ❤
it felt trashy but i loved every second of it. it was fairly easy to read; squimmed a lot through the descriptions but hey! it could've been way worse: it could've been boring
as margaret atwood said on that masterclass promo that appeared everytime i opened a yt video: "there is only one rule: keep my attention"
New favorite booktuber!
Same girl,, the romance is a big disappointment.. at first the tension and slow burn was fireee,, but suddenly they went wilddd😅😅😅
I've been binging your videos, and I am so surprised you only started UA-cam a few months ago! I've recently gotten back into reading last month and your videos are the ones I saw first. I love the way you talk about things and just have a good time throughout your videos! Your videos inspire me to start booktube as well! :)
I trust your book taste on my life so this video will decide if I read this book or not!!!
