I’m so excited that Joe Rohde is coming back! He is my favorite imagineer! His creations have blown my mind! His and Tony Baxter’s!
I agree, more attractions NOT tied to IP would be amazing! What is the next Haunted Mansion? The Next Pirates? The Next Thunder Mtn.
If they brought back Tony Baxter in the same role as Joe Rohde Imagineering would be in the prime spot to educate the new generation without the need for IP dependent experiences. You can use an IP in great ways (Pandora, Indy, Star Wars) but leaning on them to sell plus-ed up Six Flags experiences (Avengers Campus) isn't the Disney way. It feels like the last original idea The Disney Parks had that wasn't tied to an IP was Expedition Everest and that was what, 18 years ago?
For real. Like how do they not recognize that their greatest most beloved attractions were/are not tied to an IP? Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Big Thunder, Matterhorn, etc. Of course they've always had attractions based on IPs(that's most of fantasyland), but it used to be a healthy mix, not this idiotic "we won't even consider it unless it's based on an IP!" mentality. When you give Imagineers the freedom to create something entirely original, it sparks creativity you might not get when they're forced to build it around an existing IP.
My thoughts exactly.
I was blown away when I saw how they revamped The Swiss Family Treehouse at Disneyland. Brought tears to my eyes because it truly felt like a magical experience.
Everything being IP based has nothing to do with imagineering, it’s purely a decision from the corporate brass. Imagineers are insanely creative but that’s unfortunately restrained by the execs
Seriously like when I heard Tony Baxter was coming back during the whole Tiana vs Splash debacle I was like hell yes! To Tiana as that trust that it would be done right just sky rocketed and others thought the same
@@vio2112 Splash Mountain was one of their most beloved attractions and it was tied to an IP. All the Fantasyland dark rides are tied to IPs. The Tower of Terror is tied to an IP. All the Indiana Jones rides... tied to an IP. You can prove any point when you pick and choose your examples.
The simple fact is, nothing that gets built is due to Imagineering being less than it used to be. They can only work within the budget given to them. Bob Iger is a master of handing out low initial budgets - when he actually bothers to allow the parks to build something - then making them even lower by demanding budget cuts after the project gets Imagineered. He's not interested in pleasing Disney fans. He tells them what they want to hear and then tells the shareholders something completely different. He's lying to one of these groups on a regular basis. Guess which one... He's packed the Board with people who support his every cheap decision and who especially support his almost two decades of increased price-gouging. He claimed Chapek raised prices too high and had only made them higher since he climbed back on the throne. Peltz is a moron and hasn't a creative bone in his body - just like Iger - but Jay Rasulo does. He knows far better than Bob Iger what's good for the parks. He really needs a voice at this table.
Veterans like joe are hella needed right now.
Don’t know if it’s related, but Joe will be named a Disney legend at D23 this year! I thought that wasn’t going to happen when he left the company. His return and the promotion of Bruce Vaughn are very encouraging signs!👍🏻
Thanks!
If at all possible a pre covid Disneyland would make a lot of people happy. A fixed rate for genie plus and individual fast pass, early entry for an hour etc
Disney parks have been IP heavy for a long time... sad they even turned some of the original attractions into IPs by making films (Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Tomorrowland).
It would be nice for them to come up with new original attractions.
As for the magic key upgrade from a regular ticket, they're late in the game with that. Six Flags, Knotts, Great America have been doing that for years already, and it works. But better late than never, I suppose.
I think Disney is finally starting to realize that the parks are what is keeping them afloat right now, and they're trying to shape up. It might take a while, but it's not impossible.
Thank God they're getting the band back together
This is the report I was waiting for! Thanks David! Looks like Business 101. Give the customers what they want and they will beat a path to your door!
My wish: that Universal would've built a second gate in Hollywood. Better Universal CA presence, and it puts pressure on DL to get off the pot.
If they got rid of Genie+ and lighting lanes the wait times would be cut by more than half. I was in the standby line for the Cars ride yesterday and they were letting in 26 Genie line people vs 12 standby line people, it’s such a scam to make you buy Genie. Merchandise prices are crazy, you can tell there are way less Disney bags being carried out of the park, it does feel like the magic is gone.
Awesome video! Honestly, I love these longer-form analysis videos, this could totally be main channel content if you wanted.
Love these news videos about the company. And I appreciate your thoughts, view, observations on where you think the company is headed. Keep up these videos!
Very informative and insightful, David. It isn't just that Joe was asked to come back, but that he actually IS coming back!
I hope they record the Masterclass and add it to Disney+
Was at the park last year and did notice a bit of a change in the cast member engagement than previous visits . We Still love them and they have a difficult job . But would like to see more joy and engagement for the cast . For them and for us . Encouraging changes should help
6:05 I would argue Joe Rohde is "global" but perhaps not like Barbara Bouza. Joe takes inspiration from the world and studies and uses it. The cultures have gifted him all those earrings, I believe is the story. Honor and respect the cultures, but create a story. Joe has been able to create beautiful worlds in spades! Hope he can teach how he does it
Creativity coming back into imagineering! 🙌
Rohde and Vaughan can fix Imagineering. Reimagine Peoplemover into transportation Over Harbor Boulevard to the old Strawberry Fields (fugushige Farms) and Toy Story parking lot and put Pandora Land across 7:54 Harbor Boulevard.
Am I correct in presuming you have changed how you light your set? The background blur notwithstanding, you've become the focus without seeming too bright. All told, it's a pleasing look especially when I go full screen on my iMac 24".
Finally a step in the good direction
Very informative info! Thanks 😊
8:41 correct me if I'm wrong but I also heard the reason that didn't work was Florida basically stopped it. As in government/law base stopped the project. Just a big Disney error 😬
I saw the signs that things were returning to normal and took advantage of the key sales. It’s good to be back, and will be good to see all that I have missed in the six or seven years I’ve been gone. Only have had one short visit so far (where I ventured into Batuu for the first time), was wished “Happy Cycles” for my birthday and piloted the Falcon on my very visit ride on Smugglers Run. But The will be back for more!
Nice new hat! Looking good!
Joe Rohde was one of the few modern imaginers that was taught by the original 9 OLD MEN (look them up) Rohde was trained with the original idea of "if you can dream it you can do it" Modern imaginers have lost all imagination. They just cycle and repeat the same thing.
I slightly disagree with you there. I do not believe that the modern imagineers have lost all imagination, but they have been somewhat discouraged from thinking outside of the box as of late.
@@DementedCaver Fair point. I am being a bit hyperbolic when I say "all"
@@redtiger7268 Fair enough. 😁
I was wondering where that quote “if you can dream it you can do it” came from and I found it to be from Tom Fitzgerald, a Senior Creative Executive at WDI for Horizons in Epcot. There’s a fun fact for ya
FRESHBAKED is DISNEYLAND!!
Tony Baxter is definitely needed
Looking at Twitter lately... why do people think Universal is "killing Disney" with Epic Universe, but when Disney adds or updates an attraction, it's them being desperate to compete with Universal? If anything Universal is desperate to compete against WDW's 4 parks (+ 2 water parks and dozen or so resorts)...
Universal isn't killing Disney. A lot of people are put off by Disney jumping into politics (whether you believe they are or not other people do) which has started to kill a lot of their IPs like Marvel and Star wars along with the terrible writing. The brand starts to sour as a whole because of the bad movies.
Add that to doing nothing at the theme parks that have sparked excitement especially in Orlando in forever. You start to see a world where the untouchable juggernaut is toppled. I mean I can easily see after Epic Universe opens a world where magic kingdom is first in attendance and then all the other universal parks are 2,3,4 in a very short time. May not happen but imagine saying that 10 years ago.
They have completely pissed off some people to the point of no return and others just want the imagineering, creativity of the past with timeless tales and attractions to come back so our kids can enjoy like we did. The pendulum can swing so fast nowadays.
Seems like they are realizing they need some of that creativity they pushed away back. Let's hope
@@AndrewFernandesLD doing nothing at the theme parks? In the past ~5 years, SWGE, toy story, runaway railway, cosmic rewind, Tron, and soon Tiana's. But that 5 years also included the very deadly p word which kinda devastated the tourism industry.
@@PeppersGhost like you said that's over 4 parks and in that time universal has built things just as good so that really doesn't give Disney a leg up. Toy story area is meh I like the rides slinky dog is never quite worth the wait times it has (another problem they have). Galaxy edge is super cool but could definitely use a few more interactive elements or something to keep the kids engaged.
My in-laws just got back from Epcot last weekend. They couldn't get on Cosmic rewind and Ratatouille was closed. So made for a meh day as she told me.
The pre p word as you put it attendance numbers for both universal parks were over 2019 numbers in 2022 so they clearly have rebounded where Disney has not partly maybe by choice who knows.
I think re-theming rides doesn't give the same excitement as a new ride especially when not everyone wanted it changed (obviously more controversy with from the audience both ways).
I know I'm rambling but you asked for a few reasons. I think if you look there are plenty. Saying Disney is cooked is silly but they do need to right the ship a bit or universal will cut into there market more and more as the younger kids don't ask to go to Disney and start asking to go to universal.
1:17 was this clip really from 2022? I feel like it wasn't from that long ago 🤔
I’m actually scanning the comments for that exact reason! Seeming if anyone corrects that. Has to be 2023
@@phillipn.8320 I was going to say this year of 2024 😅
I don't think I've watched Fresh Baked for that long yet, nor would remember that quote.
No, that clip was from a very recent vlog! Feb of 2024! Approximately 4 weeks ago!
@@michaelsullivan3581 that's what I thought 😅
Tony Baxter was in the parks in December, on a VIP tour with what looked like execs. I was able to ride Guardians with him. It was a memory that I will never forget! He was very gracious when I told him that I was a huge fan of his rides. Is it too much to hope that he would come back?
can they please get rid of the reservation system!!!!!!
Why would they get rid of a system that helps them predict crowd levels and effectively manage manpower & supplies?
Wait, I saw a blue shovel... does that count?
This is good news, and I share your optimism, David. But after a recent trip to Disneyland, I came away thinking that the number one thing that should be done to increase capacity is bring back the pre-Chapek maintenance crews and schedules. When rides are down, and down consistently (I'm looking at you Indiana Jones), it hurts both capacity and the guest experience and perception of the park. We've all seen it. Imagineering develops a wonderful new attraction and often within weeks, effects are broken and things aren't operating correctly (Rise, Treehouse, Big Thunder, etc, etc). Disneyland is wonderful, but it must be constantly and lovingly maintained to operate at its full potential. Currently, they simply do not have the pre-pandemic cast or the required budget to do it. If I could say one thing to Bob Iger, it would be, "stop spending money on crappy movies and fix the dang parks!"
Disney wrote Rhode a HUGE check!!!
Which they won't do when funding new attractions.
Didn't Rhode swear he was going to get the yeti in Expedition Everest fixed? Enough of the crappy disco yeti! With him back in the company there's no excuse. After they finish those expansions in Animal Kingdom, that's the time to finally shut the ride down and get it done. Maybe they can figure out a way with new technology to bring the old mist effects back too and perhaps also add some other new effects/enhancements. Lot's of possibilities with the technology they have now.
No, he said he wanted to before his retirement but he also said it was almost impossible. The Yeti is built into the structure and that is why it broke. The shaking was threatening to take the whole mountain down. In order to fix it they would have to take the entire side of the mountain off.
@@redtiger7268 He said "I will fix the yeti I swear." He also recently said on Twitter that Disney's claim that it is "impossible to fix" is BS and Disney is just saying that to get people off their backs about it. I'm well aware there's nothing wrong with the animatronic itself, but rather the foundation it's sitting on and they would probably have to cut an opening into the mountain to redo the foundation, but it can be done and Disney has the $$$ to do it. Disco yeti is an embarrassment, an absolute disgrace to the high level of quality Disney has built their reputation on. The yeti is one of the largest and most impressive animatronics ever built and they've let sit in that sad non-functioning state for years and years now.. He might as well be stuffed full of foam. How sad it is that hardly anyone even got to experience the yeti functioning.
I saw Cars in a theater by myself with Marty Sklar. Just a random fact about me I wanted to throw on here. Lol.
I had a flex pass and I enjoyed it for the 6 months I was allowed to have it before the COVID shut downs
I understand the frustration with reservation system, but what would they do when the park gets so packed you can’t get in? Sucks when you plan a vacation have your tickets but can’t enter because they are at capacity.
This system has probably turned away more guests at the gates in its first 2 years of implementation than was done in the 5 times that Disneyland reached capacity in almost 70 years that Disneyland has been open; Back then it just meant you had to wait for a few hours before entering, since it was limited by the actual number of people in the park instead of the Quantum Visitor Count (taking up space whether a reservation is filled or not if you happen to be in a different visitor class or whether that person has left for the day or just doesn't show up) that the current reservation system creates. If the system weren't just an excuse to create fake scarcity and limit the ability to use the prepaid AP/MK benefits then the language would not be "reservation required", but "entrance cannot be guaranteed without reservation" the same way it is in pretty much every large-volume reservation system in the world. They could still limit the reservations the same way, but it would prevent the problem of wasted attendance capacity due to unused reservations in the various "buckets", park-hoppers spending most or all of their day in only one park, last-minute cancellations, and guests who spend less than half of the operating day in the parks. The current implementation is just a theme-park version of the Disney Vault marketing strategy modified to reduce AP/MK benefit usage.
I'm with you. I have to travel over 3K miles to go to Disneyland. I can't even imagine doing it without having guaranteed tickets and reservations for the day I am there.
Even so the last time i was there, there had to be 5K too many people in the park given the current closers. I was there the first weekend of March as it was dangerously crowded, very difficult to move, and downright uncomfortable
What’s a magic key?
Annual pass
The Magic Key Sales still being open is actually a bad sign. I only re-purchased my Magic Key Passes in January because I feared I couldn't get it again. I basically FOMO (Fear of missing Out) in buying the pass. I think this happened to many people. Now that existing Magic Key holder can see that the passes are readily available they will NOT choose to renew their passes. Its easier to have the mind set of taking a break from Disney when your passes expire. However, taking a break usually means never buying a pass again. The Magic Key Passes are too expensive and not holding back passes and creating a demand to get a pass will hurt Disney in the long run.
I’m on the other side, I know plenty of friends and family members that have not renewed in a year or two. I keep reading comments people saying they are not renewing. They are exhausted from the parks and it’s getting expensive. You’re one of the first I’ve seen say they got FOMO.
@@aiver.a Great Point…. I think if I didn’t FOMO into buying/renewing my pass I would have paused it. If I paused it I probably would have never start again because of your point exactly. Disneyland is unaffordable. I 100% agree with you.
@@vevefanz I’m sorry you felt pressured into getting them. it seems they are always going to sell them. One way or another. Personally I can only go on weekends, meaning I have to get one of the top tiered passes and that’s almost $400 a month for my family of 4. Yeah, no thank you. I’ll just buy the SoCal 3 days tickets. They give you 6 months to use them and I can use them on the weekends. Much better value than a key imo. They got what they wanted though, they wanted to price us out.
As a returning cast member who’s been on stage and back stage, I wish there were college programs in Anaheim for culinary and imagineering - sending everyone to Florida loses people. Plus DLand is NOT DWorld.
A new hopes ...and dreams.
I am fine with genie plus but I do want the reservation system to go away.
You can throw up your love, but they need more and better rides when they do this. Indiana Jones is just a refurbishing of Dino and nothing else.
I hope they will take Joe seriously an honor his intuition and talent about Amusement Park attractions. I was really surprised he didn't go to Universal.
Yeah this is all great but the changes won't be seen for at least a decade. 😢 Meanwhile, Universal is surpassing Disney in every way possible. 😮
My dream theme park is mario land with donkey Kong ride from epic universe, velociocoaster, hagrid ride, scape from gringotts ride, splash mountain, Jurassic world river ride from universal studios Hollywood, incredicoaster, Indiana jones coaster, rock n roller coaster, expedition everest, the cars ride, guardians of the galaxy coaster at epcot, guardians of the galaxy tower at California adventure, rise of the resistance ride, a new Star Wars ride, and a mario kart ride that has to do with races instead of the one they did.
Bob Gurr is Happily in Sunland/Montrose and Not Moving to Florida Period, End of discussion. Joe Rohde is the perfect progression of Imagineering. 11:23
I love how Bob Chapel did all of these things that went so bad so fast when he was only there for just over a year...oh wait, he didn't. 🚿🚿 "2 Shower" Bob Iger did it 💯
I hate the reservation system hate. I am soooo happy the implemented it. In fact I wish the parks were a bit more restrictive so as to ensure capacity levels to create a more magical experience. Disneyland has always been an exclusive, dare I say elitist, experience. For proof of the alternative, one only need to drive to Buena Park or Victorville to see parks that are cheap to get in and have no restriction levels. They become ghost towns because of the element they attract by way of ease of access. I call it the Studio 54 effect. Where I agree with most is cost, however my perspective is not how much things are but the value you get for said cost.
This is a fallacy. Reservations are there to help Disney with staffing. Not to improve guest experience. We don't benefit. Disney wants the parks packed to the point of them becoming not enjoyable due to crowds. They can sell more food, suveniers, and Genie+ that way.
I’m excited!! Thanks for the updates. Fresh Baked!
Josh said Porto’s is coming to Downtown Disney and its blue sky until Earl’s move to its new location and ground break for Porto’s location. I predict Porto’s will open sometime in 2026
I move for a vote of no confidence in Josh D'Amaro's leadership.
And they probably are still on the talk. If they really want to get back to the old Disney, then they better go look how great Tokyo, Disneyland and their sister park bucks. Those two parks are the most beautiful and well done parks because Disney doesn’t on them, but another company that knows to put investment into the parts to make money money.
Drop prices down. Florida is cheaper than us here in Cali. And the parks there are way bigger. Makes no sense. Bring flex pass back for so cal residents!!
Disneyland has always been a rip off especially when rides are always down. Or even when they have early closures for special events, they charge the same as a regular day.
No bueno!!
Capacity is my biggest concern right now. Heading there in late June and sadly Tiana's and Mansion will still be closed. I'm wondering how insane it will be. Fingers crossed that Disneyland Forward goes through in general because I don't know how much more they can take.
What effect will a plan to expand the parks over the next 30 years have on this summers crowd levels?
@@WindowtotheMagic None -- I just mean going forward they really need this expansion because of high crowd levels.
I hope Disney is peeing in their pants after Universo released how, how to train your Dragon area is going to look like and it’s going to put shame on the way the lines at Disney land and Disney World looks like. They need to wake up and fixed tomorrow land at Disneyland.
11 months is not an ERA.
Hi Dave my name is Paul. I watch most of your videos. I enjoy them. You are really doing a great job informing all of us in regards to both parks. I prefer Disneyland. California Adventure in some respects isn't bad but I just enjoy Disneyland more. I really wish Disneyland had kept Splash Mountain. I don't like all these changes that they are doing at this time. Maybe in the space that they have close to Downtown Disney they should put in the ride Tron like they have over in Florida thanks for all your hard work. And please say hi to Liz and your daughter.
not sure if bouzza was actually hired by chapek BUT all of this is very good news. Although Chapek was made CEO, Iger retained creative control and would remain as executive chairman until the end of 2021. Iger never left his office either so not sure who was really in charge back then. NO fan of either of them.
Rhodie is a great move...Where is Tony Baxter!??
overseas parks had plenty of shovels moving dirt. just not the us parks. joe had to come back for the AK expansion.
Indy and Encanto don't fit with the theme of Animal Kingdom though... They have nothing to do with animals! Remember, the park is about "animals real, ancient, and imagined". We were without the imagined animals from 98 until Pandora (or maybe Everest), and now they're getting rid of the ancient animals. They have to think bigger picture here. Disney parks aren't like malls where you can just replace a Claire's with a Forever 21, these are spaces that stand for something. Going through with this change would be a huge mistake that would further destroy the thematic consistency of the park. Spend the money to revamp the dino area instead.
Well lets see what they build. Clearly a Tropical America themed land fits very well in Animal kingdom. turning Indy into a South America based ride that has some animal elements, can be done, Snakes, monkeys, the Amazon. It can work as well as Dinosaur in my opinion. Even though i like Dinosaur.
Encanto, we'll see. But there is no reason it can't fit better than Primeval Twirl did, that was at most barely themed. Encanto can be better and more . Coco replacing the current kids ride can be ok. I just hope they find a ways to get some animals into the area. Maybe some Capybaras or some other animals
Have we ever seen a collaboration or cooperation on a project between Joe Rohde and Bob Gurr or are they too far apart in era?
I would love for them to "Blue Sky" the ORIGINAL Expantion... BREING ME BEASTLY KINDOM! And... please, bring us Murphy, He died so that better animitronics can live.
I think they’re keeping the magic key sales going because they need to make money to pay for these upgrades with Critter Country and Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion. Also, many people have lost interest in going to Disneyland feeling the magic is gone and it’s too crowded and expensive, etc. Disney needs to make the money back. They also lost billions of dollars being closed for so long during Covid.
This actually is a shift. The move of WDI from Glendale to Florida prompted a mass exodus of creative talent, the hiring of architectural professionals to replace them, the green lighting of “storybook living,” the lack of progress on existing parks, particularly in the land development and fixing problems. I think it’s time to really rethink how Disney operates.
They are pulling out all the stops to get the vote to go their way! It's still not enough for me. Also, anyone else look for Provost Park Pass as David was filming from the boat?
Non SoCal resident and enchant key pass holder here. I hope they don’t get rid of genie + the locals will ruin it and every ride will turn into Monster inc.
Were you a Disney goer before Genie+? Because I dont think thats true, and if you watch FreshBaked vids, you'd see why. Since Genie+ is paid, they cater *way* more to them than standby than they ever used to with Fast Pass. Lines could still get long with FP but it wasn't ridiculous like it is now.
Does that mean they might be back to Disney stores?
I was fortunate enough to have taken a class with one of the imagers sitting here doing this I’m sorry I forgot his name he taught at citrus College and he designed some of the things you see at Disneyland and he also designed for Disney, Paris and Disney Japan
At that time I was living in Glendora, California and Glendora California. We have a home that was built by one of the imagers. I wish I had a picture of it because it you don’t have to look at it twice to know it came from a imaginary.
Actually, Flex Pass in 2019 was the FIRST reservation system
❤
Bring back Tony Baxter and Kevin Rafferty! Then we can get excited!
why not actually hire Joe back to actually do the work as well as train new imagineers. I'm not sure about this but im hopeful this is a positive.
So great to see Joe Rohde return and I'm not surprised at all. I think Disney should proceed to move all imagineering to Florida but ALL current imagineers would need to re-apply for their jobs. You would then recruit a new Imagineering organisation more in alignment with successful legacy Disney and its creative philosophy. This is going to take many years Im afraid. Current Disney has lost its way and has lost the trust of families. I'm not sure you can redeem that without sincere apologies and strategic changes across the whole Walt Disney Company. IMO, Bob Iger definitely needs to be fired as he is responsible for ALL of this mess. #NotMyDisney.
Screw Joe Rochester, bring back Bob Gurr
Wishful thinking that Disney management will ever spend the kind of money that's needed to enhance the parks in the USA. Joe Rohde is just coming back to give some lectures to the losers and DEI warriors that now make up imagineering. This won't really have much of a positive change as the corporate will and money just aren't there. Looking forward to Universal Epic Universe now for quality attractions and customer service.
They need to open up the magic keys to cities that are on the border of ZIP Codes that are eligible for monthly payments. I live right on the border and I cannot get a payment for annual pass at least five or six times a year.
I live in Yuma, Arizona and Winterhaven California is right next to me which is an eligible ZIP Code
Yes, bring back Tony Baxter!
Looking for the day a shovel hits the ground. D23 better be good.
With a Mayan-inspired Indy, and Encanto/Coco - we're really talking about an Americas section replacing Dinoland, right? Asia, Africa, Americas, Pandora, & Zootopia in the tree?
You support Peltz???
Reedy creek???
It's been settled
I've heard a few grumblings about how Iger hadn't done anything -- it's been almost 5 months since he was re-appointed. But it takes time to turn a ship this big around, and the flood of news coming in now makes it clear this was absolutely the right move by Disney HQ. Iger has the opportunity to do something very special in the coming years, not by creating something new, but creating something classic.
Glad you said what I was going to say as well. I want to add that I don't feel that Disney is competing with Universal as much as feeling that Universal is giving the appearance of competing more with Cedar Fair and Six Flags than they are with Disney. Universal seems to be going more for the thrill rides that the other parks offer. I hope Disney stays more family oriented not only for the small children but for the older adult who would also not be able to go on a lot of their rides.
Universal Studios Hollywood just opened a Nintendo slow-moving dark ride. Before that they opened another slow-moving dark ride themed to Secret Life of Pets. Before that, they built a theater for a Kung Fu Panda film. Before that the Harry Potter land opened with another dark ride and a kiddie coaster. Before that they opened a Star Tours-level simulator themed to Despicable Me, as well as a Dumbo-style spinner and a play area themed to the first film. Prior to that, another dark ride - themed to the Transformers - opened. Prior to that, another simulator based on the Simpsons owned. The last "thrill ride" they built was the Mummy coaster... TWENTY YEARS AGO!
Universal Studios Florida is currently building lands based on Shrek, Trolls and Kung Fu Panda. Before that they built an interactive Minions ride. Before that, they created a live show based on DreamWorks characters. Before that, they created a stunt show based on the Bourne movies. Before that, they built a slow-moving dark ride themed to Fast & Furious (which also appears on Hollywood's Studio Tour). Before that, it was a simulator based on the Tonight Show. Before that it was a dark ride/family coaster and a slow-moving train ride, both based on Harry Potter. Before that, it was a Dumbo-style spinner based on the Simpsons. Before that, it's those same Transformers and Despicable Me rides. That last "thrill ride" was the Rip, Ride, Rocket coaster in 2009 (which came right after the Simpsons simulator.
Islands of Adventure did just open a major roller coaster, but it followed a Harry Potter family coaster, a slow-moving King Kong dark ride (also on the Studio Tour in Hollywood) and the same two Harry Potter rides that are in Hollywood. This is their "thrill ride" park, but the most-recent coaster was the first "thrill ride" since the park opened in 1999. (It was 22 years between them!)
Epic Universe, which will open next year, will have only one actual "thrill ride" - a major roller coaster. Other than that they have three dark rides, a Yoshi ride, shows based on Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon, a carousel, a water shooter, several kid play areas and three family coasters, none more "thrilling" than the Guardians of the Galaxy and Tron coasters Disney just built.
In 2022 Islands of Adventure had higher attendance than Disney's Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Animal Kingdom AND California Adventure. It received more than 11 million guests. Knott's Berry Farm, the highest performer of the Cedar Fair parks, received 3.9 million.
Universal IS Disney's competition. Cedar Fair and Six Flags are not. Disney needs more than lies about Universal to get its act back together.
You can bring back everyone you love.
Unless you can bring prices back down and increase capacity with actual new attractions to give people stuff to do.
This is going to become Disney lifestyles of the rich only!
I nominate David to join the Imagineers and right the ship.
Oogie Boogie dates announced
I'm sure you will delve more into more of the business side of the Disney company fight with Trian/Peltz at some point, but until then I wonder how much of the changes you mention in this video are more business as usual from the Chapek era (changes they cannot avoid as they can't turn back time and remove Genie+ or the promises they made to ADA compliance and activist groups to produce more "mindful" attraction aesthetics). Some of these doings were from Iger's watch and they were ultimately not positive either.. will Iger get to stay in the company or will he get pushed out?
Used to be's don't count....
This shows that Iger is desperate.
Well Disney isn’t the only one that moved jobs out of CA to other states ….be nice to get what Tokyo Disney has.. encanto etc not too exciting vs what universal has
They never made the move.
Tokyo is owned by a different company. Disney would have to buy the plans for the new attractions and tech.
@@redtiger7268 I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing.
Some of Dino land should stay
Yes
Well if they want a real master...Bob Gurr is still very active and his insights would be handy..and yes Tony Baxter....another to teach classes
I am not a defender of Bob Chepak in anyway but..Iger way over spent on the acquasition of Fox and left Chapek to pay the bill..hence his cost cutting and alot of BS....
That said, i am very happy with these changes and I have huge hope for Disney
Thank you Dave for all your work
Lower prices. Put products in each land which pertain to the theme of each land , the way it used to be when Disneyland first opened. It’s boring, not fun, to have Disney icons on every souvenir you buy; it’s just plain boring - not fun.
True change won't happen until Iger is gone ... 🙄🙄🙄
This!
Remember how everyone was saying "WE NEED IGER BACK. FIRE CHAPEK!" just a very short time ago. Remember the "SAVE Disney" campaign in 2004 when everyone was mad at Michael Eisner? Remember when everyone wanted Ron Miller gone in the early 1980's and golden boy Michael Eisner saved the company? Yep... literally NOBODY has been CEO of the Disney Company since the 1970's without there being some major campaign complaining about how BAD they are. One has to wonder, at this point, if it's the CEOs, or just a group of fans who think they know better than the people actually running the company. In closing... the Disney stock price would like a word with you about how "bad" Iger is doing.
@@WindowtotheMagic Since you brought up the stock price, have you seen how much its fallen ..?
@@WindowtotheMagic Also, Islands of Adventure is now the #2 park in Orlando. Universal Studios Florida is tied for 3rd. And Epic Universe will be here next year. Universal is excelling by constantly building new things. Disney's lack of new things had been the cornerstone of Iger's entire tenure as CEO. This cannot be blamed solely on a man who only spent two years calling the shots. If the stock prices keep tumbling, the Board will get exactly what it keeps voting for.
That lady ruined Splash Mountain.
Change for change sake is not necessarily good! Until change actually happens for the better I am out.
Don’t trust BOB he lies about everything
