I was lucky and got a free GC component cable. Well free in a sense that a local game store owner appreciated my business after years of patronage and gave it to me as a thank you.
that's a great store owner
You think that's great, I've gotten E3 trinkets from booths from his trips there. They're not super fantastic, but Sega suckers and bags can be cool. Though last year they were a little skimpy to downplay booth hoppers.

Sticking with £5 generic RGB Scart cables ive had for years, well as long as my Trinitron CRT keeps working.
Great Video thanks.
This brings me back a bit to figuring out how to play Gamecube games on a display setup that only supported HDMI.
...I ended up using a WiiU with the Homebrew Channel and Nintendont because I really couldn't afford any other solutions. Now I am really interested in just modding my old Gamecube to get a more legitimate setup.

Your best episode yet, and that's saying a lot -- so much information in this episode, and so well presented and edited. I've watched it at least three times now, and get something new from it that I hadn't noticed previously each time.
But the question I'm not 100% clear on from the video -- how do we actually get RGB out of the (North American) GameCube ? It sounds like you're suggesting one of the upcoming FPGA boards may allow it -- is there no way to get those signals from the analog multi-out, or from the interior of the cube itself?
+Michael Quattrocchi I looked into this at one point, and if I remember right the ultimate conclusion is that there is no way to get RGB out of an NTSC cube. These solutions that offer RGB output are converting the digital video signal into RGB.
bobrocks95 Thanks - this is what I had figured based on everyone's guides so far. It just seems to be an area mostly skipped over since the information on it has been so scarce.
I use the following to get games on a TV.
MiSTer for NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA
Wii U with cfw for virtual console injects of DS, GC, Wii.
Leaving 2 omissions that hopefully get solved one day:
3DS
N64 - frankly I've never played a N64 game.
I loved my GameCube, but it was stolen along with 48 games and a myriad of accessories when I was in a homeless youth shelter. Still, I have a modded Wii and Wii U, plus Dolphin 🐬 is one of the greatest emulators out there.
As far as GBA games, they can be played on my DS Light or even my modded New 3DS XL if I don't want to emulate them.
The GameCube was one of my favorite systems of all time; it was fast, small, light, quiet, the game discs seemed super cool at the time, it had virtually no load time on most games, and it had one of the greatest controllers off all time.
That being said, I don't miss it because I can play all of the games with the real controllers either on my Wii consoles or on my PC with the official Nintendo USB adapter.
Emulation is a pretty good option if your willing to tinker with the settings. Playing with a 360 controller is weird though.
Other than the occasional frame stuttering I haven't noticed any issues with Dolphin. It's not even a big stutter, just a small one.
You can buy some really awesome USB retro console controllers. I have a USB N64 controller, and it makes emulation so much cooler.
You can buy a port or use the Wii U GCN controller adapter.
Dennis Forstner Using the official Wii U GC adapter with both USB 3.0 ports plugged in is better than using a third-party adapter, because on Dolphin, the dead zones on the left stick are dead-on.
if you have a wii U you can also install the nintendont homebrew to play gamecube games and you can use the wii U gamecube adapter to use proper gamecube controllers :)
So, the main reason why developers didn't include the progressive scan mode on GameCube software would have been certification. If you have it as an option, you're required to test your game twice over with both options. Nintendo *will* find out if you have technical issues on one mode or the other and back then failing cert meant spending extra tens of thousands of dollars for another lot check. So it was removed primarily to save development costs.
Of course, most games didn't actually have any technical issues with progressive scan output. It was, however, a nearly unused feature. That's why Nintendo went ahead and removed it.
IMPORTANT:
Because of the new HDMI Plug and Play mods recently showing up, I believe it is important to have an updated video in that matters. I saw you guys made a live video of one of the new HDMI mod, but we need to have the details about which one is best.
The new ZXP 3.0 is the best option compared to the eon. $50 cheaper, more compatible with TVs, HALF the size, and software upgradable. Same exact video quality. But of course, they probably won't mention it because they have an agenda against the creator. It's bad business for eon also for this to be mentioned in a comparison.
These RGB videos are FANTASTIC
16:47 AVOID THE OFFICIAL WII RGB SCART CABLES LIKE THE PLAGUE!
I typically use the Wii HDMI adapter, but it didn't work with certain Virtual Console games. So I ordered an official still sealed in the box Wii RGB SCART cable. The picture was full of checkerboard noise, indicating poor shielding. And this is the OFFICIAL NINTENDO BRAND! Leave it to Nintendo to cheap out on quality.
GREAT VIDEO! Thank you guys so much for what you do. I really like Try’s Crater Lake shirt. You guys from the PNW?
[Try4ce] Nope, I'm in North Carolina and Coury is in Cincinnati. But I've traveled out west many times, including Crater Lake!
sweet you can add component cables to the gamecube
this is perfect if you have a DLP HDTV
I wish I could "like" this video10 times. Great video!
Got the GameCube component cables on ebay new for $300 bucks which at the time was about $20 more then used ones. I was thinking before I got them and knew about, I was going to sell my GameCube and get a brand new unopened one before they skyrocket in price but never did. Glad I did not sell it, I have the first model indgo GameCube, it was $200, remember getting it as a brithdaygift from my parents. My life in gaming you said, the gameboy player sold for $50 bucks when it was out, but it was about $120 Illinois got on sale for $70 during black Friday.
at bestbuy was where I got mine.
+doomisforu forgot to say I still have gameboy player too, just order the SD media lucher from Codejunkies, going to use the Gameboy Interface. I can't play handhelds much anymore my eyesight sucks now.😢
My Wii looks better with RGB scart interlaced than with component in progressive scan. Link's shield in Twilight Princess was the giveaway for me.
Castlemania games has components with audio included for the GC.
Real quick question for you guys: what's the music that plays when Try's discussing the Swiss, Dolphin and other considerations (around 24:24 to 26:47)? I swear it's a rendition of Forest Life from Animal Crossing, but I just can't figure out which version it is.
Other than that, I wanted to mention to you guys I've been discussing with Michael of BadAss Consoles about getting my GameCube modded for GCVideo picture quality once the money's right (my setup's not as nice as you guys' lol, but it'll do for now). I just wanted to say thanks for making such awesome, knowledgable videos about these things, they're really helpful for getting great picture results and stuff. Hopefully I'll get better picture quality from the GameCube in particular than S-Video sooner rather than later.
Oh, and if you could get me the name of that song that'd be nice too. :D
Please update with the GameCube Plug & Play 2.0 HDMI. [RGB 207.1]
I'd really love to see a side-by-side comparison between official Component Cables vs ZeldaXpro's mod-less adaptor, and hear your thoughts on this recent olive branch. 👍🏼
[Try4ce] We are hoping to do this. It will be a RGB 300 level video.
$200!?!?!
Glad I bought my component cable from Nintendo back when it was only $25!
I think I wanna do RGB into a framemeister into a HD tv for my setup I would much rather use new tvs as opposed to betting on a CRT long term
[Try4ce] Look into the RetroTINK products and OSSC as the Framemeister is no longer produced.
Pretty sure I bought my component cables at Best Buy for $35 all the way back in 2002 / 2003 or so. I could be remembering wrong, but are you positive that it was Nintendo online store only product?
[Try4ce] Pretty positive yeah. Maybe you're thinking PS2, Xbox, or Wii.
@@mylifeingaming Hey Try, due to your response I became very curious and looked into my massive box of receipts that I've kept since 1997.
Anyway, after 30 minutes of searching I found my GCN component cables receipt. It was indeed purchased on February 8th, 2005 from the Nintendo online store as you said. Price: $29.95. With tax and shipping $37.11.
Fantastic video. Loved every minute of it. I'm highly considering whether or not to mod my GC to HDMI. I heard it is not easy and I feel like I would be paying too much for all the supplies needed. (I.e. Soldering gun, solder wire, HDMI port) I do want to do this oh so badly.
The recent dolphin 4.0 update negates a lot of the issues it had.
This guy from Canada translated a famicom game for me, not a bad price either
you should review the GCHD Gamecube HDMI Adapter from Eon Gaming
Speed the video up by 1.25x to fix his slow ass speech
Am I the only one who prefers S-Video over all other options at 480?
You guys deserve to be bigger than PewDiePie.
Are they going to review the GCHD Plug 'n Play HDMI GameCube Adapter ?
Meanwhile im sitting here with the gamecube hdmi mod. That even has audio out on it for digital audio.
Simple solution. Play your gamecube games in a Wii console. They look great.
Just get an S-video cable and you are good to go, i dont even like component looking because its too sharp to my taste for GC games making them display blocky pixels more... just my 2 cents.
You got a new SUB, great channel!
Microsoft had a component box converter for HD and some games can be displayed in 480p, 720p, and 1080i. PS2 could display GT4 in 1080i and some games in 480p.
GameCube was not ahead of Microsoft or Sony. Just clearing that misinformation up right now.
[Try4ce] It is true that PS2 could run a small handful of games in 1080i, but resolution is not really what that comment was about. If GameCube had been allowed to output resolution higher than 480p, then it's not like it is not powerful enough to do so, in theory. On paper, the GameCube is more powerful than PS2 in most regards (but not Xbox, that was absolutely never suggested, as Xbox indisputably is more powerful). However PS2 is a super fascinating machine that greatly performed when used by the best programmers in the business. Since it was by far the most popular system of its day, it also got a lot of special attention from developers, so they really learned to use it well. Our next RGB episode is PS2, and we have plenty of praise for the system.
My Life in Gaming Please release it before the Holidays! PS2 is a pain to emulate, looks bad on HDTV and I am really into buying a CRT for playing. Is there another solution?
Hello, I just got my wii component hook up, and I'm connecting it to my 4K Samsung ku7000 49 inch. It looks awesome, but I wanted to know what sharpness would be good? I have mine at 40. It seems old consoles benefit from sharpness. I have my wii in edtv, widescreen but put my tv on 4:3 ratio.
Hey guys, it's quite disappointing that you guys didn't discuss or show the PAL Gamecube's RGB as an option... why is this? This channel mostly focuses on RGB, so why not this time? Is there something inherently inferior about using a PAL Gamecube's RGB as an option to get top notch picture quality? I would have really liked to have seen comparison shots for it against these other options discussed here....
+skins4thewin [Try4ce] There is some PAL GameCube stuff in this episode, but what we had available to do with the system was quite limited at the time. The RGB quality is great (with a good cable anyway), but it can't do 480p from that output. Especially in the Game Boy section, we talk up the PAL Cube as an interesting option, though. We also discuss it in the full Game Boy episode.
Thanks, I did see that episode and got a lot of good info from it, thanks a bunch for making that vid! I would have liked to see more comparison shots comparing RGB to the digital options though, so I can weigh my options. I did recently pick up a PAL Gamecube, but would like to somehow mod it in a way that would allow me to get the absolute best picture possible for both Gameboy/Color/Advance and Gamecube games, but based on the info it doesn't seem like that may be possible, as digital seems to be best for Gamecube and Analog best for the Gameboy stuff...
Does using component cables on the wii and playing gamecube games get as good quality as hunting down a component cable for a gamecube?
Hello! I also need some advice. I was lucky and was able to buy and original Nintendo component cable years ago for $50. It's worth every penny and I've read that this cable now goes for over $400 now. My question is this. Are the new HDMI" converter" cables and/or devices give me a better picture than the original Nintendo component cable? I really don't want to mod my GC or take it apart. I was thinking more of a plug and play device. Thanks and I really like your videos.
Watch MLiG's video on the Gamecube HDMi plug and play adapters.
@@DanielAyy OK
Perhaps I misunderstood, but are you saying that NTSC/U Gamecubes do not have access to RGB, but the PAL Gamecubes do have access to RGB?
[Try4ce] Correct, European GameCubes do have RGB from the analog out port. But remember that 480p is not possible from this port, and that PAL region games don't have native support for 480p. There are ways around all that though, though homebrew methods.
Also My Life in Gaming, Have you got any good sources for Official Nintendo Branded S-video cables?
I have seen comparisons done between Official Nintendo brand and 3rd party Svideo cables which show Nintendo Brand ones with Svideo, Red RCA, White RCA. Fair far better than the 3rd party ones which usually have both composite and Svideo ends.
I would like to increase the quality of some of my nintendo consoles but I don't want to do any mods, so I am on the hunt for 2 pairs of Svideo, and an official GCN Component cable... and would also like to win the lottery for the last one there lol
+evileyeball [Try4ce] Official Nintendo S-video cables are a bit more expensive these days, around $30-$40 on eBay. I think I used to have some official Nintendo S-video cables years ago, but I believe they stopped working. Right now I have a stash of cheap third-party cables and a couple of those purple Monster cables. A lot of people will say that aside from the official cables, ONLY Monster cables are true S-video cables. That's not quite true. While I have never run across this myself, supposedly a lot of cheap third-party S-video cables are actually composite quality video running over an S-video cable. But my cheapo cables prove that this isn't always the case. I cannot tell the difference between my cheap S-video cables and the Monster branded ones, and every S-video clip in this episode was recorded using the cheap cables (you can clearly see it's a lot better than composite). In fact, I actually avoid using the Monster cables because they're a really tight fit, and it feels like I might break the S-video port. So, I don't have any advice for avoiding the supposed "fake" S-video cables, but I can at least say that some of the inexpensive ones are good.
However i still can't find anything for my Original XBOX :(
Isn't the wii supposed to have a soft look on HD TV's?
I mean, almost the mayority of wii owners played it on an HD TV. surely the developers were tweaking the looks of their games to look "soft good" on HD TV's.
for example, In my opinion mario galaxy and skyward sword look great on HD TV's at 480p
How long did it take you to receive your sd media launcher from code junkies? I've heard shipping from them can take a while.
+A Jones [Try4ce] I've heard bad stories too. I've had it for a while, so I can't quite remember. I don't recall being concerned about it coming, though. I believe they ship from the UK?
Yeah they come from the UK, I was just getting a little anxious after seeing the horror stories since I ordered one recently after watching this video!
Such a pain, just like doing 480p on PS2, but without easy to find hardware. If you don't have a 480p CRT you're better off just dealing with i.
Just bought an older Wii and gamecube games(i wanted a gamecube since 2002 when I was 15.) I currently only have composite and I have a 2005 SDTV flat screen CRT(Sony Wega.) If I get component for Wii and use my Standard Def. CRT, that would still be 480i like composite correct? Are component cables worth getting?
[Try4ce] Oh yes definitely. Both would be 480i, but composite is such a messy signal. S-video and component are both a huge step up over composite, even on a standard def CRT.
Need help. Is it worth getting a mclassic plus a retro prism or carby or is the Prism and Carby alone good enough????? Does the mclassic added with the carby or prism make the picture even better????? Also does playing gamecube games with a mclassic and carby better looking than just playing them on a wii?????
[Try4ce] Personally, I am not a fan of what the Marseille products do to the image. I don't think you should have some idea that it's gonna look like modern high quality anti-aliasing. Since it doesn't add much for me, I prefer to keep the image as-is. The HDMI output options for GameCube do indeed look cleaner than Wii, but they are still just 480p.
I really need your help guys! I have purchased a d-terminal cable modded to a vga cable for the gamecube and was wondering if modding it to vga made the signal worse, the same, or better. Also, how would I go about getting the vga connection into my framemeister. Also, is there any downsides I will face with vga, compared to component and d-terminal?
Love the videos!
[Try4ce] Unfortunately I've never had a chance to try one of the modded VGA cables. You might run into issues with 15kHz signals (480i, 240p), depending on what you plug it into but I'm really not an expert on that...
19:15 i heard this can be solved with homebrew and have gc on wii look just as good with component, is this true
But what about playing on HD displays? All my SD displays are big, clunky CRTs, but my HDTVs are nice and mobile. Is there anything I can do for nicer looking visuals on HD displays?
[Try4ce] Sure, absolutely. I think this episode is pretty thorough at breaking it down... most everything in this episode is targeted at people who want to play on an HDTV, really. Just remember, GameCube is not HD, and no matter how much you might wish that some set of cables, a scaler, or some TV might make the games look closer to HD, you have to keep your expectations in check for this particular generation of consoles.
Thanks Unseen.
and now the cartridges are back
You guys make it sound like Badassconsoles is already offering their boards, but it doesn't look like they are... Do you have any idea when that will be?
+bobrocks95 [Try4ce] Yeah, we tried to make it more like "he's finished preparations." We didn't want the video to seem too out of date too quickly, so we tried to be vague. But sadly, we have no idea. He sent me the prototypes, but the final production boards with some revisions, we just don't know.
+My Life in Gaming Thanks for the response! I'm sure trying to make a video not appear dated quickly when you're talking about very recent developments is a difficult thing to juggle, so I can't blame you or anything. Hopefully soon then!
Please Nintendo give us a GameCube Mini!
I LOVE HANDLS BECAUSE OF GAMECUBE
Hey guys, got another question for you. Forgive me if it sounds stupid but do both versions of the Bad Ass Consoles mod have the GCVideo menus and stuff? Nothing that would deter me from getting the mod but I would honestly rather have just a straight connection from the console to the TV.-skull902
Also, I've seen that the Wii produces a slightly darker image than the GameCube. Looking at your footage, I see using the Wii component cables on the GC also darkens the image. Is the difference in brightness about the same as using a Wii?
I'm so mad at myself. I had component cables for my older GameCube, but the GameCube I just got on eBay have no digital outlet for it sadly.

Got to the register, hoping that they still would not realize what they had. I don't have cash on me, and there's a $5 minimum on debit charges there. So she decides to just give it to me for free with my friends order.
I ain't mad.
Just very very jealous. Very.

In the 90s there was a used game store down the street from me that had 3 copies of Starfox Super Weekend. They were listed with the same price as the original Starfox game, and my dumbass didn't see the point of grabbing one because the store owner told me it was just Starfox, but with a different label.

I have to disagree with your views on the Dolphin emulator. I have played with the emulator alot, and at my college's last LAN Party, I hooked up the Mayflash Gamecube USB adapter and was playing 2-Player Mario Kart Double Dash at 1080p, 60 fps LOCKED. No hiccups, no stuttering. It was great and very nostalgic for alot of us at the party. Now there are numerous games that just don't work with Dolphin, but to completely write Dolphin off as something "neat to tinker with" but with no real functionality is not right in my opinion. I have also purchased the Mayflash Wii Remote adapter and have played a few Wii games on Dolphin again at 1080p 60fps locked. And again it's great.
+VGSoundtrackGuy Dolphin is anything but perfect, but it is hands down (in my opinion) the best modern emulator in existence.
It's truly amazing! The compatibility is incredibly impressive for an emulator its age. I own a GameCube and a Wii but you haven't lived until you've played Brawl and Melee with increased resolution.
The only downside is that in order to get it running at full speed you have to have some pretty hefty hardware (which thankfully I do). I can't wait to see just how much Dolphin will improve over the years.
To be fair they also didn't completely write off Dolphin, I just suspect that they don't have as much experience with emulators. They can be rather finicky.
+Zak S I run melee on 2x with a n AMD x4 860k
Zak S As of late, My Life in Gaming has persuaded thousands of viewers (including me) to research and invest into what MLiG has recommended. And they pretty much said in the video that Dolphin is "cool" but don't expect much. Which in my opinion like I said, is not right. I cannot tell you how much joy I've received from running my favorite childhood games at 1080p 60 frames per second locked on Dolphin. Dolphin is not perfect, but it DOES work and can be the best solution for HD def GameCube as long as the person is okay with a handful of games not working on the emulator as of right now.
Because of the way MLiG talked about Dolphin, it makes it sound like a waste of time to download Dolphin because of it's lack of rock solid performance in some areas. So the average viewer, the GameCube component cables or the HDMI mod sounds better than Dolphin by the way this video makes it sound. So yes, in a way it does look like they talked about it just to write it off. They could of worded the section on Dolphin better.
VGSoundtrackGuy Their issues primarily stem from the emulator not being nearly as accurate as some of the better emulators for older systems like NES or Atari 2600. Those systems can have nearly entirely accurate emulation, but Dolphin has a long way to go to claim that for most titles at this point. Also, in my experience I've noticed the audio isn't nearly as accurate in terms of sound quality as original hardware. Like they said, it's fun to play with for now, but it has a long way to go to be generally considered accurate to original hardware.
Its 2018 pcsx2 runs almost all top games dolphin to . in hd if you wanna play some shitplie of fuck game thats not on the list no one cares its the main titles people play kingdom hearts 2 final fantasy mario kart star fox smash bros and on like seriously. I actually used VGA on my Gamecube back in the day. I discovered a way to mod the component cables. Metroid Prime running at 480P on a Cornerstone 24" monitor with 75-ohm VGA, and sound piping through a surround sound receiver, was an experience I'll never forget.
Sick
I got my Component Cable for $10 at a Play N' Trade. I got REALLY lucky.
Long live the GameCube!!!!😁👍🏼👌🏼
I have watched hours and hours of these videos and I still play all my games on a composite 14" crt that doesn't even have stereo sound
GameBoy Guild Same! 😂
I skipped the Gamecube when it was one of the current consoles. I focused on my PS2. But friends had it, and I always enjoyed playing it with them. Seeing this episode, and all the games you demonstated, makes me feel as if I really missed out by not having a Gamecube. As you two have helped me get better visuals and sound from my other retro consoles, you're seriously making me consider tracking down and getting into the Gamecube.
Great episode, by the way!
You should do it's got some cracking games and the GBA player is a no brainer
Geek Trunk Gaming get a hacked wii or buy an early model of the Wii which has GameCube accessory ports and hack it yourself get Nintendont and homebrew channel and other stuff you may or may not want
The amount of effort you guys put into these videos really shows. I knew a little bit about the GC digital port before, now I'm well more informed about it, had no idea that there was such a budding mod scene for it. I thought all that was available were the very expensive (and hard to find) cables!
it's not over for carts on home consoles, it was just on hiatus and is on a comback on NX. better tech today makes cartridge games viable again.
madmax2069 cartridges have been used on handhelds even now, so they aren't really obsolete much
Multi yes I know this
madmax2069 YAY THE SWITCH HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED AND IT LOOKS FUCKING AWESOME.
How come this channel doesn't have more subs? This is top quality stuff. Keep at it, you earned a sub.
+John Doe It's niche stuff and will probably go way over the heads of most casual gamers. Great channel for a limited audience, but I'm glad they're doing their thing.
i agree with you, all channels need to start somewhere.
+justin halen stfu. You are probably ugly AF. You can't say shit about them. You're being stereotypical by saying "nerds." Just because they are smart about retro gaming video quality doesn't mean they're nerds. Dumbass
Because people like viral garbage consisting of info regurgitated from Wikipedia.
I like "viral garbage" but I also like stuff like this too. :D
Now I just need a PS2 video. Because Gamecube/XBOX still look good on an HDTV, but PS2 games look horrid!
+Blandrew Yeah, it'll be nice to see 60Gb PS3 vs PS2.
+BladeBlurX I also want them to go back to the TurboGraphix, Neo-Geo, Game Gear (since they ARE covering GameBoy), Sega Saturn, and Sega Dreamcast. Also MAYBE the Wii, but I'm almost positive that the Wii U has better picture for Wii games, at least, from all of the time I've put into each.
Apparently, PS2 looks best when hooked up with packaged PS3 component cables.
*****
I'm really hoping this isn't the case. I just got rid of my PS3 Fat that was backwards compatible with PS2. That thing was sooooo noisy. It sounded like it was getting ready for takeoff. I want to play my PS2 games looking good on an HDTV, but not if I have to listen to that noisey fan. I'd probably take the second best option.
***** Ohhhh....thanks for the clear up. Might just have to order some online. Thanks!
"The era of cartridges on home consoles, was over"
Switch: aha. ahahah. ahahahah. AHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH
This video was both extremely entertaining and also very informative.
When we got to the part:- "Got some rare things on sale stranger" & "Not enough cash, stranger!"
I had to click Subscribe!. :)
Wow you're a fucking moron! XD lol
Wow you're a fucking moron! XD lol
So when I sent my Gamecube in for the digital out version, I actually traded in for an older system... Interesting.
I'VE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS.
I play gc games on my wii and i play in 480p, problem solved.
My wii has no component cables yet.
Yep, a used Wii is super cheap too.
NY Prince I got mine for 12 quid, which amazingly means that the 20-quid SCART cable I have it hooked up to my CRT with costs more than the console itself.
Eh, the video quality out of the Gamecube's digital out is generally quite a bit cleaner than Wii's, so the Wii sits in the closet and the Wii U and GC are hooked up instead.
@@dalton2k538 It's absolutely marginal, barely recognizable as you can see in this vid. On top of that playing GC games via Nintendont on Wii improves framerates due to the higher clock speed of the Wii hardware.
Nintendon't on Wii U is what I use for my Gamecube games and I love it, pretty much mainly use it now.
Aside from emulating on dolphin, using the WiiU and Nintendont is probably the best option for ease of use and quality compared to GC and component cables. Plus more controller options like the WiiU Pro controller which is awesome for that.
PairUnormal Guys You can even use a PS2 controller as well.
+mitu123Copper the image quality on wiiu is same of digital gamecube?
***** Pretty much, yeah.
mitu123Copper is nintendont an easy program to install on the Wii u?
thanks for making such great content guys. Your RGB series are a great resource to the community. Can't wait to see when you take on the Turbo Grafx 16/ PC-Engine
Thank you for saying using a Wii for GameCube 480p display is perferctly fine in your video. I've been arguing that for ages and for at least 5 years now have been perfectly fine with playing GameCube in 480p over the Wii's component cables (and even on an unofficial 480p passthrough HDMI adapter). I know that the GameCube has the GB player but I was never too big on GameBoy games and so I just simply use GB/GBC/GBA emulation on the Wii for my occasional GameBoy fix.
Danny C. Competitive melee players just have a hard-on for expensive peripherals.
+Slater Brazeal Nah, it's more the fact that GameCubes are much simpler and faster to setup in a tournament setting than Wiis.
Danny C. wii component and the gamecube component cable video quality looks the same.
You should of mentioned Wii2HDMI. It's not a proper scaler and adds jaggies to Wii titles so preference is on a person to person basis, but it does make the GC tiltes look better for sure. It's generally around $15-$20 online but it also has an external headphone jack for audio out as well. It's a cheap alternative worth looking into for GC on the Wii even if you don't use original discs. Every time I was like "you forgot to mention" it literally happened right away. I did that about 4 times! Great episode guys!
Para-holiX I have one and the quality isn't very good. Video signal is overly bright, and sound is extremely loud and distorted unless you output audio through the 3.5mm headphone jack. I wish the Wii got more love. Hopefully some time soon the Wii can receive something like the EON HDMI adapter for the GameCube. I would be so happy for something like that.
I've personally tested with the Wii2HDMI adaptor and whilst the quality might be a little bit better I came into a few sound and graphical glitches, particularly with Melee, and so I switched back to component.
Despite the RGB 100 and 200 (haven't seen the 300 videos) videos being more than 5 years old, they still have the quality of current UA-cam videos.
You must be some special kind of UA-camr to future proof your videos like that.
I have a Trinitron Crt TV at home still. Looks good to me.
Sony is the Best CRT TV
Which mode do you play on?
Interlaced or progressive?
Component or S-Video
Justin .Credible Is it an HD or ED CRT so he can make use of progressive Scan Mode
something interesting dolphin can actualy acces the stereo 3d capability and so emulate in full 3d every games with a compatible nvidia hardware.
😱
+Helloz World wii included.
Can you guys do one on Wii, or the original DS? I'd love that :D
cocoqui Theres really only one way to view DS Games. Thats through an actual ds, dsi, or 3ds. Or a Emulator.
$300 for a video cable? I'd be better off emulating GCN titles off Dolphin if that's the case. :P
True dat!
Just shake your ass in the club for 300$? R u dumb?
Well how do you rip a GCN Bios anyways?…
***** What is HLE?
You have to be kidding. Dolphin can run Melee at 1080p, 120 fps , and supports online play. It's flawless.
That is what I call an excellent video. A TON of information, footage, research, good paced voices... just perfect.
I recently got a 480i CRT that has no color or sharpness loss and after hooking my PAL Wii to it via component and I was blown away by my PAL Cube games just in 480i let alone 480P. It's amazing how much detail component brings out, I couldn't believe they were the same copies I played on as a kid.
aaaaaand now they're 300 at least.
Dillweed got mine for $240
Still a rip-off but it looks professional.
It's a shame you wrote off Dolphin as buggy/hiccupy. You guys didn't mention that it's dependent largely on your hardware; my system pretty much never runs into issues running supported Dolphin games. Gamecube emulation is CPU dependent. Would have been good info to be giving people.
+Knots [Try4ce] It's definitely impressive, but even with the dev build and some assistance (on a pretty beefy computer), we saw enough quirks to make us feel like the experience wasn't quite what it should be. But do note that emulation is not our area of expertise or the focus of our show. It's always primarily about what can be done with original hardware, but we do like to mention emulation if there's something interesting about it.
+My Life in Gaming yeah. I figured all of that. it does take a bit of configuration on a per game basis to get desirable results, anyway.
Holly Chan Fuck you.
