If memory serves me correctly, the character designer for this game would go on to work with SNK during the development of KOF '99, hence why Cool looks like a K' knockoff and Harry has some Maxima vibes going on.
Please do Akatsuki Blitzkampf. You can play as a tank, a nun with an ammo mechanic, Chinese boxer with rush punches and all, one of the coolest shotos ever, and an old dude that plays like a Samsho character. Easy to pick up, play, and have fun. Would make for a great JMCup
Hadn't seen Garou MotW and was like "lemme check this out," and my mind was blown. The amount of effort sprite work makes you exert is never a bad thing, god DAMN. I agree that this game is up there, too.
Yass the taiwanese game company IGS Made an excellent game based of the Wong fei hong Movies starring Jet Li. It was their 1st attemp but the 3rd time a charm.
Daraku Tenshi is pretty much only known for 2 things: being really cleanly animated & inspiring some KOF99 character designs when the DT devs got absorbed into SNK Cool split off into K' & Krizalid, Harry Ness is basically just American Maxima, Haiji is the reason why K' keeps his sunglasses on, & Whip's lore makes references to "angels & the fallen"
jmcrofts, just want to say I love your content. Fun fact: this was (almost) published by Psikyo, who developed Battle K-Road. I guess Psikyo decided they were better off developing shoot em ups after that game.
While I truly love and enjoy this format. JM Cup 4 Life. It would be awesome to get to know some of your players in the JM Cup I feel like I see them all the time yet know nothing of em. You should get one to co-host with you and give us their perspective on how they approach this bum rush to learn a new game and perform.
That is K' the developer from this game later went to SNK were he designed King of Fighters 99. And he took three characters from Fallen Angel and put them in 99. The game is also rotoscoped like Art of Fighting 3 which is why the animation is so fluid.
bro that artwork reminds me of this old SNK game I used to play in arcade where like your body parts fall off as you take damage (at least I know that happened to the mantis guy, others maybe just clothing rips and you get bloodied).
Downloaded on fightcade on a whim and this game is tight, Onigawara is pretty top tier for me but Haiji has a Ralph from KoF style punch that when fully charged is unblockable and does near fatal damage tho the cpu just dodges it everytime. I thought Yuiren was my wifu then I found out he's a guy then he vecame my husbando. Also when you're in the red on health you have unlimited supers.
PSiKYO is famous for sircraft shooting games like 1945 Strikers. It makes sense that the main protagonists looks like pilots. Even the color scheme mirrors the shooting game.
I had no idea Psikyo made a a fighting game. I mainly know them for their shooters. This game honestly seems pretty cool and it sucks that they weren't able to release it elsewhere to polish it up some more
This would've been a lot more interesting and enjoyable without PerfectOrange tbh. He kind of ruined it for me. I found the game interesting and would've liked to see the strats and characters developed in such a short time, but no. It could've been cool to see what else the game had to offer.
I agree 100%. I feel that way whenever he's in a tournament, generally. It feels like he just goes for cheese or whatever is utterly OP/broken. It's not fun to watch. I can imagine it isn't fun to play against either.
@@SoulShaded Yeah it really left a bad taste in my mouth, and you know he knows how scummy it is, because he played a different character first. Then, as soon as he loses ONE match, he says "I can't allow myself to lose so I'll be a twat and infinite everyone".
@@servebotfrank4082 That's cool, I like this series and find it entertaining. I just think this particular video would've been better if the grand finals wasn't two people trying the same strategy that involves taking complete agency from whoever gets hit by it. That isn't very fun to watch imo.
@@HYLOBRO Remember that the whole point of this series is to play underplayed games and see how quickly we can break them. An unblockable infinite in Blandia immediately made Jurane a terror. Every one wanted to see Moliopp lose and it's very fun to try to see people form strategies to beat it on the fly. Hell, I think there were clear strategies against the infinite (it seemed to be vulnerable to reversals on block) so it's not like it was an auto win button.
Looks like when you hit "max" super is available. There's a short window of when you can use it. Not sure if extra damage or speed is active as meter drains.
There are a lot of images out there for Daraku Tenshi (mainly unfinished art and storyboards); plus rare fanart on Japanese sites. IIRC there is supposed to be a remake but I think it is too good to be true. A lot of characters here inspired KOF characters (Cool inspired K’, Harry Ness inspired Maxima, Haiji Mibu I would say a mix of Yashiro, Shen and Kyo (in terms of moveset IIRC). Dunno about the others but I do think Yuiren inspired Shion (given the whole crossdressing thing as both are extremely feminine looking men lol). My favourite here is Haiji Mibu; idk why but he is lowkey attractive to me haha
I remember reading about this game. It got some mild controversy over one of the characters being a trans woman (the one you see all video above jmcrofts)
@@myu5519 sure, sounds about right. Japan is extremely -phobic, something weebs tend to ignore. it's not what stopped the game from being completed, or anything like that. Think of it similar to Poison being a "newhalf" in Japan and a pre-op "trans woman" in the US so american censors would be okay with beating up a chick. In the case of this game being more modern, certain marginalized groups found the depiction of the character an offensive representation for whatever reason. Thus mild controversy.
Is that Torao guy a dig at SNK?? lol... Also, the other one doesn't look like K', he actually looks more like Yashiro... although he plays more like Ralph it seems... Game looks dope though, too bad they never finished it, some real quality in the artwork.
I JUST watched a video about this game in the channel GuileWinQuote (check him out, 5K subscribers but does great FG content). Really fun and weird game!

The classic combo of “lose one game > counterpick with character with infinite”
I like how Torao is just Ryu if he actually was in real life: a smelly hobo in a gi

It also looks like they took harry's jacket for terry's garou look.
Yep sorta, but also some Cool also went into the SNK's new boss character at the time, Krizalid.
They also fit a bunch of Haiji's kit into 99 Kyo, such as his dp into Kyo's hcb, etc

Imagine if the developers stuck it out with this game and it became one of the big three with Capcom and snk
That'd be sick. The sprite work looks amazing

I played it there too
Love when you run these obscure fg tourneys such a fun watch to see people learn real-time

My brother and I played a cabinet of this game at Galloping Ghost Arcade when we visited Chicago 3 or 4 years ago. It was so fun in the most jank way.
A third way through the video... Hayji's punch looks like a mini Galactica Phantom, armor and all

I played this on MAME during my college years, I thought it was pretty cool.
Game looks really good .. would love to play it
I love this game. It's so broken though. The environment and characters look so gud.
I was so distracted by the single shadow on the ground that the fighters have to share.
I like how Haiji is literally just Jet from Yatagarasu. I guess it’s actually the other way around huh?

These sprites are incredible. They appear to move like 3D models.
They were 3d models drawn on 2d sprites. Like Art Of Fighting 3
