Rufus is the other side of Bob from Tekken. Pretty universally strong in certain itterations, but Rufus goes for the annoyingly quirky approach vs Bob's incredibly plain approach.
i love Bob cause he's an overweight character who isn't just reduced to Ha Ha He's Fat. Dude bases his whole fighting style around tossing the weight around.
I feel like if they were to ever bring rufus back sf6 would probably be their best chance rn given they shaken up kens background. Alot of the gripes Rufus has with Ken wouldn't exist and it could be funny seeing Rufus either mocking Ken while hes down or actually trying to help with just Ken going leave me alone. @@coolgabe555Rufus coming back would be my worst nightmare but if he comes back hope they crank his cartooni-ness to eleven and make his moveset absolutely absurd and hilarious

It is so sad that Guy was absent in V and will be too in VI. After IV, there seems to be a trend of replacing him with other new bushinclones, such as Zeku and Kimberly. Bushinclones don't have the same privilege as shotoclones, which can have dozens of them in a same game. Oh yeah, poor Maki too, another bushinclone thrown into the depths of oblivion.
@@LOL-gn5oh Yeah I don't get the Kimberly inclusion when they had Guy + Maki already. She's fine (as of the beta) but why not just bring back Guy or Maki or Zeku.
This guys facial expressions make it seem like he's always on the verge of laughing. Always. He's the most happy looking person I have ever seen. Not even hating, good for him.
As an Abel main in SF4, I can agree with most of the sentiment. His character backstory isn't actually bad, it's more the way the character develops from finding out his backstory, as well as his overly shy demeanor. I feel like if Abel had more of Luke's personality but with his Frenchman tendencies and Seth clone backstory he'd be much cooler.
Yeah, it sounds good on paper, and I like how he plays. But I remember him being in like half the cast's "Rival Battle"s in Story Mode (at least in Vanilla) and he seemed super bland in every short cutscene.
The problem is that people judge Abel with different standards than a veteran like Honda. Just because of the veteran status, some plain old characters get a pass while the newcomers are harshly and strictly judged.
I believe it's not specifically the model itself, just the animation bones But yeah, those posts on twitter where they go "OMG THEY MAKE A SUPER BUFF CHARACTER" then post a fuckin twig certainly are something.
3:59 For the record, many BlazBlue fans who like the story also hate Arakune for screwing up Litchi's romance options with much more interesting characters and being a *FRUSTRATINGLY STATIC CHARACTER* who can barely talk. ...But yeah, being a spammy skillgate character also doesn't endear anyone.
Ooh , I only played the first Blazblue game, do they never really move on from or evolve that while storyline? Is Litchi just constantly pining for and trying to save Arakune from Blazblue start to Blazblue finish? Is it THAT bad?
@@goranisacson2502 It is absolutely that bad. She even joins the bad-guys against her will for his sake. :( (Why do fighting games keep doing that to female characters? It's never well-recieved.)
I really want Zappa the Australian ghost scientist to be in strive. Like you said, how they played in previous games alone shouldn't have much bearing on whether they should come back or not because chances are they are going to be changed.
Me too, I like how she is a lil bit insane and wants to fight due to the enjoyment of beating ppl up. Also think she has cool animations. I was drawn to her in sf4 and in SFxT but have kind of lost interest in her as a character afterwards.
I feel like Juri, much like Cammy and Chun Li, can have more characterization now because Bison is dead. For better or for worse, a lot of their characterization was "must kill Bison".
Abel absolutely needs to comeback. I feel like Manon is the evolution of his playstyle. If he were to return for SF6, I imagine he'd be added towards the end of it's life.
Manon's existence is clearly the sign that Abel is not returning. I kinda liked the dude in SF4. But I've learnt to find more appeal into Manon's concept.
When I was a kid who had no idea what I was doing, I really loved Zappa even though I had no idea how to use him just because the concept was so fascinating. I never won, but I just loved using him and playing around with all his crazy possessed moves. The old Guilty Gears were my first experience with a game with characters with such non-traditional kits and ideas, and I've always hoped to see him come back in a game now that I'm more experienced and actually know how to do more than play around and mash buttons. Sad to hear he's mostly hated.
Fellow Zappa enjoyer here. I'm pretty sure most of the hate comes from how overwhelming he can be in +R (cough cough sword) and not his actual design or the way he fights. I don't like Strive but a toned down version of Zappa where he still has more reasonable RNG summons would pull me back in
Seeing Zappa come back would be cool, considering that in the overarching story he has seen a lot of development. He's joined a government agency, developed his own supernatural battling tech, and seemingly still has his connections to the demons & spirits who possess him, but finally has reached an even ground with them. I think a more "in control" Zappa would be fun to see. Maybe give him an install style super where he goes full-on possessed mode again, or something like that.
The thing about Rufus, like if you look up his backstory the dude is a genius when it comes to fighting. Like his martial art is entirely made from different martial arts he watched from movies as well as traveling and learning them from masters. He can even use a slight amount of ki in his attack which is something that took many other characters alot of training to achieve. Now if he was less pig-headed and hot-headed and more calm he could actually be a pretty good character. In fact many of the other fighters said if he took less time being a braggart and a windbag he would actually be a much more competent fighter than he currently is. The fact they say this means that Rufus could actually become a character who could be a real threat to other fighters.
The self taught trope is one used far too much in video games and if you take away the fact that he really has no certain style to call his own it looks more pathetic.
When it comes to Abel, I think that Street Fighter X Tekken did an ok job of giving him a fun quirk. In that game, his reaction to seeing Kuma in his/Guile's rival fight is an extreme urge to pet it, talking to Guile like that's a completely normal reaction to seeing a grizzly bear. I think they could build on Abel being a dork like that if they wanted to revisit him.
I think SFxT did pretty good in general with showcasing the chracters personality (although cartoonized). The trailers of that game are still so amazing
@@LloydTheZephyrian one wants to admit that when back then the SF4 art style was bad and probably the worst iteration (look wise) of all the characters. The only ones that didn't look stupid were the ones that debuted in the 4 series.
I actually liked Rufus. What I liked about him was how ridiculous and over the top he was. I tend to like some of the goofier characters that stand out a lot. He actually has the potential to be an very interesting character lore-wise as well. I just don't feel like they tapped into that a whole lot. Given his size and being able to learn just from watching movies is Rugal-like in a way. I donno, I like the character concept. Maybe they can tone down the short temper bits, maybe have him come back where he's curbed some of that. Even with that, he's also oddly friendly aside from his ridiculous hatred of Ken. A bunch of his arcade win quotes to other characters is just wanting to talk about random stuff he likes.
Zappa is super unfairly targeted for being buffed out the ass in +R. He was completely fine in AC before they just decided to crank the hell out of the sword. Wild how Zato just keeps coming back despite being an actual problem in basically every game he's in
I actually think they could make Rufus work if they brought him back in SF6. With the current direction they're going with Ken it would actually make a lot of sense for him to return.
Completely agree, C. Viper was great. I thought she could be more popular, since she was even in MvC3. I feel like she'd be more well received nowadays, for some reason, but I'm not sure if she's even here, considering SF's weird ass timeline.
Time for my unpopular opinion, I hate C. Viper's design. I like the gameplay a bunch and used her for some time, but her costume combined with her glasses were such a turnoff for me, especially knowing that she was supposed to appeal to westerners in an era where they catered to heavily to the west. She reminds me of Katarina from T7; sexualized characters without that "it" factor to their design, so they end up generic.
In Street Fighter it's pretty common for female characters to generally get more waves than male characters. I myself mostly play girl characters just because they tend to fit my style of play and design choices more. With that said I think Jamie will take off pretty well and has the right things to be a popular male character
I also always gravitated more towards female fighters. Characters like Sakura, Makoto, BB Hood, Hsien Ko, the entire Skullgirls roster… Not sure why but might be because of their more distinct personalities.
Keep in mind, gay/Asexual men also frequently play female characters, so men can't be purely playing them out of thirstiness. It could be for a lot of reasons, but in addition to aesthetics, my theory is that people like underdogs and women are inherently underdogs in fighting games.
I will be honest; I always like how Rufus's girlfriend is named Candy. That being said, I find it hard to hate characters in any fighting game. Some I dislike, but it never gets to hatred. The closest would be Ingrid, but the annoyance I had with that character passed away in time.
I completely forgot about Ingrid. I think her whole deal was that she was a Mary-Sue for comedy that the East enjoyed and the West thought was annoying and screwed with the lore. ... I'm glad she's gone.
@@Delightfully_Witchy Not that the lore mattered to begin with. SFA3's canon was already messed up. It's dumb to take the canon of Alpha 3 MAX seriously when it's the same game that has Yun and Yang when they're too young to be in it lmao
@@stale_cheeto If we were to disqualify lore for inconsistency, then no fighting game series whatsoever would count. There's nothing dumb about being intrigued about fighting game lore, that's what it's there for. A significant portion of any fighting game base are there purely for the fluff. (Especially in MK, BB, and SC case.)
They drove to the North Pole at the end of his arcade mode ending. Him and Candy are frozen in some block of ice out in the middle of nowhere. I pray every night into my custom-made Rufus body pillow that Capcom will deign to unthaw him.
Honestly it seems Capcom more than often drops the ball at introducing new SF characters after the alpha series. Most of them are either too generic or too weird for most people, only a few really stand out positively.
Good point. Come to think of it, there aren't many male characters post alpha who are super popular to a general audience. Even if you narrow it down to general FGC, you got Dudley, Sean and Urien as maybes, with the former as the most likely.
I really wanted F.A.N.G. to be cool because his theme is sick and some of his official art is too, but in game he's just a huge fucking clown with a wack ass fighting style.
@@Robin_Robout I'll stand with you on that one. Really inspired design reminiscent of old kung fu movies. I wish they made him more sadistic and less corny; it was great when he was actually villainous in the story, but then you contrast it with the dumb flying super and the generally wasted poison mechanic.
How could you honestly change Arakune to a point that makes him decent and not so frustrating, it's simply impossible for one who never was made with any intentions of being anything less than strong.
If they changed what the bugs do/act when the opponent is cursed he could keep everything else, IMO. The bugs from Curse gives him that arial low, insane amounts of pressure, and an infinite that only has 1 point where it isn't burst safe.
@@zanpakutoman4225 Arakune doesn't have an aerial low anymore, that was just his jD for I think only Calamity Trigger. That being said, the worst part of Arakune's design is that he literally gets curse off of one touch so the MvC3 Phoenix Wright factor of "Oh he's bad until he becomes the best character in the game" is barely a factor because quite literally any decently convertible hit he gets is leading into 100% curse oki
@zanpakuto man yeah that's 100% false. His air low was in his first game, he hasn't had an infinite ever (outside of infinite block strings against tager in ct, and you'd guard crush them before that). He's good, but Carl, nine, izanami, etc. Are all bs
Seth's steampunk android skin in SF4 was lowkey the best skin in the game. Also, he was suuuuuuuuuuper fun to play as even if he was a bit more technical than most of the cast.
I love how they made Seth in SF5 into not just a woman, but also a reference character that takes moves from different Capcom fighting games. And then the copying aspect was still retained with one of his (her?) V-Triggers being able to steal moves from the opponent.
ok lore time, basically seth’s (sf4) body was intended to be a new body for m bison after he died in sf2. it didnt really work so shadoloo threw it out, somehow the body gained consciousness and that consciousness could be cloned and put into other bodies. (the consciousness is heavily implied to be male) after ryu wrecks the 2nd seth body (sf4 is wacky) its not fully destroyed so juri puts seths consciousness into a different body (that either juri make or found) which has a very feminine appearance. so like, seth is more like trans? so probably female but not? it’s weird.
Hakan is such a great modern street fighter character. I can't imagine him in a game like Super Turbo, and yet he screams Street Fighter in his game design.
I gotta be honest, besides Sakura, Juri is without a doubt the most recognizable SF character after 2. If you ask the average person who Alex or Yun or Urien is, they'll have zero idea
Well “average” people don’t really matter when it comes to fighting games. They don’t actually care about anything and usually do nothing for the game outside of sales lmao
@@kujo4388 They do when it comes to who's recognizable. You don't say "Oh Yun is the most recognizable character in Street Fighter because everyone who's good at Third Strike knows him" because that just makes no sense
Look, All I'm saying is that at the obvious low point in his life that Ken is in during Street Fighter 6, he needs the one person in the world that thinks about him more than anyone else to come along and get him back on his feet. So they should absolutely bring Rufus back for SF6.
@@muleyamwiinga3988 I think you missed the joke. Rufus has a bit of a joke one-sided rivalry with Ken, where Rufus is *obsessed* with beating him in a fight, but Ken has absolutely no idea who he is. @@kevingriffith6011 I knew about that... Still don't care for Rufus... Ken needs a character redesign, let's go down this dark road for him... I would rather see Sean and not the 2nd Impact Version...
The hate for Rufus is completely unnecessary. The guy has an effective movement. He's a fun character. He's a fat character in a fighting game, which is awesome! And the hate on Arakune is just stupid. Like, ppl that play Arcsys games alway love playing Cheap AF characters, but when a high skill ceiling, low pick character pops up it's always wrong. Like, what's up with that double standard?
0 way Arakune doesn't return if there is a future BB title. He's Litchi's major counterpart for one, for two he's just a really cool fighting game character in concept. They really just need to make his curse mechanic less binary so he can win matches more reliably without curse, but you get to actually get to play the game if you get cursed. Everything else about him is awesome.
Geez, I hated matchups with Seth. He was the worst matchup for both of my mains and just an annoying character in general. My most disliked character would probably be Guile. The character is fine, but the way most people played him was super boring.
I think Juri is really cool, but I don't remember her being evil in SFV. It has been a really long time since I've done that story though. Rashid is also really cool, but he feels more like someone from an anime fighter and not Street Fighter, so he's just super annoying to fight.
Rufus is a weird but great design and gameplay. Bringing him back where he has been humbled down, and become a bit more fit would be awesome. Showing some growth. Aracune would be great if his mobility would be increased and his curse brought down some. Abel gameplay and the character could use a little love. Juris design and gameplay needs nothing. Remember feet are the nads of the legs. Hands are always focused on so yeah, Quinton Tarantino has entered the chat lol
For some slack on Rufus as well: i've read that in his story, his interest in martial arts came from action movies, but he didn't keep it at that-- he, out of genuine interest, put in effort to travel abroad, study and practice martial arts from different points and sources, to experience and decided for himself what would work and what wouldn't, and adapt stuff to his own fighting style. That's really respectable dedication.
the problem with kune is that he's a feast or famine type of character, his neutral sucks and his mobility is sub par. The only saving grace he has are his instant air dash cancel which allows some nasty mixups and if he opens you you're pretty much dead. He's a polarizing character that either feel like either the most free match up in existence or the most bullshit character you've ever gonna see
I hope Lucky Chloe returns to Tekken 8. The world's edgiest gen x dad hired the worlds most toxic hello kitty girl to be an industry plant and his body guard, and I'm all for it
You know the way. Lucky Chloe being so ruthless she's literally willing to team up with Daddy World War 3 if it makes her famous and let's her act like a super-zomg-neko-kawaii :=3 nihon aidoru is... I don't even know how to describe villainy like that, except "impressive".
I hate arakune as much as the next guy but blazblue's whole thing is that the game always keeps growing and adding. he has to be there. I can take some warcrimes.
Arakune has a great character design and amazing animations. That being said he is pure cancer taken character form. BB has some stupid characters but Arakune players are the reason why having a pocket Nine is a good idea.
I could live without seeing Rufus again and be pretty content. Combined with some other questionable designs in SF4, he just comes across as generally fatphobic in design. Bob fits this mold sooooooo much better.
Hakan is great and really must return someday. Ideally in a game with multiple supers because I'm curious to see how he fights under that base that is different from SF4.
Hakan and El Fuerte are the 2 big ones I want to come back, El Fuerte was my first pick when I first played Street Fighter and I just love Luchadors in general and Hakan was my first hardcore main and the first grappler I ever played in a fighting game
I didn’t like when Juri came back as it felt like she overstayed her welcome. I know she has more story than Hakan in Super Street Fighter 4, and Street Fighter 5 was acceptable as a return because she had a vendetta against M. Bison. But Street Fighter 6 has no motivation for her. It just doesn’t feel like a game she would be in when the game is on the main world warriors and newcomers teaching new pupils (the custom avatars) their fighting styles when Juri would only care about herself. She would only help for her own benefit, and what benefit is there to teaching a student when she prefers to do things alone?
Juri's voice lines are annoying as hell compared to any of the other characters in 6. Her voice is just entirely too grating and the stuff she says to sound 'edgy' is just cringey as heck.
Id like to point out...that as a tournament entrant and avid active player in my scene back when SFIV through USFVI was the game being played...NO ONE got more hate than me...yes...I play El Fuerte.
I like Abel. I think if he somehow came back in 6 (doubtful), he has a lot of story potential to expand upon. He could potentially really come into his own.
I remember reading someone complaining about R. Mika because they "want to be able to play the game in public without being seen as a pervert". The same person was also complaining about Darkstalkers as a whole (but especially Morrigan and Felicia), so I think the guy might have just been a puritan.
Hear me out, if they do bring back Rufus, do so with a crazy plot redesign. Rufus is now in shape and in law enforcement trying to hunt Ken Masters down. His old grudge pushed him into joining a police academy as a way to get even with Ken and make money on the side to boot.
No. Rufus has successfully eaten Ken Masters. As a consequence, on top of his original move set from SF4, he has all of Ken's moves and is now 10% fatter than ever before. Upon his launch in SF6, Ken will no longer be playable - nor will you be able to find him in world tour mode. Gotta make room for his jiggle physics.
Arakune is literally the reason why i play blazblue, never had such a unique character before. He might've been broken in Trigger Calamity version but now they nerfed him soooo much you can't complain, no more safe air dives, no more free curse meter after each D button. They literally stripped my man Arakune off of his major threats.
Same, I've only played a bit a Central Fiction, and absolutely loved playing as Arakune, didn't even touch anyone else. The reason I don't want to try out BBTAG is due to the lack of Arakune.
I think people who are like "Stay Dead please" are so close-minded. There's always room for reworks or redesigns. Look at Seth in SFV. In SF4 the response was mostly negative, but Capcom tried again and people seem to like the end result.
Lily is quite obviously Talim from Soul Caliber slightly modified. She even drones on about wind just like Talim. Haven't seen any videos mentioning it, but it's very obvious. Btw, if by "annoying" you mean Juri is awesome, I agree. Also, she's Tira from Soul Caliber. Think the same voice actress even does the character, but could be wrong. Basically, Street Fighter rips off Soul Caliber characters, but it's okay.
Hm... You have a point. Ironic that they would make a character like Tira before the older Talim (more than 10 years later). But I think she is more practical than Talim and seems to be more important in the story, which I appreciate.
I love Rufus, it makes me sad everyone hates him. He can use a little redesign and tweaking with how he plays but I love the idea of his character. A fat super American biker that’s an incredibly agile martial artist.
Rufus is my second favorite character in the entire SF franchise (Hakan being number one), so I also feel really upset when so many people just straight up trash him. I love his design, I love his personality, and I love the way he plays. I hate it when people say he needs to never return (and that's much nicer than how most people say it) because it's not fair to those of us that genuinely enjoy the character. I hate characters like Guy, for instance, but I don't go around trashing him because I know he has fans.
i've read too that he, for himself and out of genuine interest for martial arts, went to study abroad and experience and learn for himself from different sources what martial arts techniques work (or would work for him specifically) and which ones wouldn't. All because he got interested in it from action movies. This is respectable dedication and something to emulate, i believe: Being willing to learn while being critical, and doing serious effort to learn about something beyond looking up stuff on internet or the closest MA course.
I personally would love to see Rufus come back, he was a bit off putting at first but he grew on me quick. Unfortunately it seems like what determines whether or not you become a mainstay is how horny you make the fans *cough*Juri*cough* *Cough*Ibuki*cough*
The arakune one by far the one I agree the most. That abomination steals rounds like nobody's business. The moment he curse you, it's pretty much over due to his touch of death combos and insane pressure. I hope he never comes back again lol.
I personally like Abel (he’s kind of a weirdo and I loved playing him), and I miss him but I’m excited to try Manon out in SF6 just so I can at least enjoy a similar play style lol.
Patroklos Alexander from Soul Calibur 5 is easily one of the worst fighting game characters and they absolutely should never bring him back. He was an obnoxious skillgate character who was annoying to fight and bad to play and narrativewise he was praised as this pure noble Mary-Sue who killed off beloved characters and ruined lives. He pretty much came dead last in the popularity poll for a reason and SC6 whole plot is about making sure he never comes back. *HE'S THAT BAD.*
I have never played fighting games and I don't intend to in the future but I watch all of your videos, a testament to your great video creation and personality 😆
I remember going on holiday, and the place we were staying had a kids club with an Xbox that had street fighter 4. I remember everyone wanting to play as rufus just because he was different in personality, playstyle, and physically. I think they should definitely bring him back in 6.
I know Ed was on the leaked illustrations for SF6, but if they do bring him back I hope he gets a big overhaul. His gameplay is not my favourite but it's alright, but his design and personality are big nopes from me. If he matures more he could become more interesting.
I'd even alter his idle stance. It's supposed to look like a boxer who is light on his feet, but it really doesn't come across like that. Instead, it looks like a dude who is wearing a back brace and standing completely sideways...oh and he has boxing gloves, I guess.
I can't agree on Juri being much of a trope. If anything she actually subverts a very popular trope, the "Tae-Kwon-Do fighter with an overbearing sense of justice" trope, which was only broken one other time by Hwoarang from Tekken. As for the foot thing, Capcom has been flaunting Chun-li's legs and Cammy's (lack of an) ass for many many years and nobody complains. The game has been "fetish fighter" since almost its inception, for better or worse. And this is coming from someone who's a huge fan of the series.
"It's never gonna happen but they should get rid of Juri." My man, she's literally in the game now. They'd have to un-announce her. You see a new SF trailer and it's like "New Fighter, Remy, and Juri...'s cancellation." Naw I know what they meant but honestly, Juri's become what they wanted out of Crimson Viper, and she's been popular enough to put her in 3 games with less push (Viper was in MVC3 remember.) I think the science is settled on Juri.
Rufus is an awesome character and I want him back, fatter than ever. No joke, no troll, I legit love Rufus and thought he was THE most fun of the original SF4 newcomers hands down. While everyone was complaining about Rufus' divekicks, those same haters begged for Yun in Arcade Edition, and he ended up being worse.
Abel should definitely come back in a post Street Fighter 5 game. See the main problem people have with him is that his personality is bland. That's a issue that would be so ridiculously easy to fix in a way that'd make sense. Personality is developped through life and experiences. Being a artificial human with no memories and in a pretty serious mission, it make sense for him to lack personality. They could easily say that following Bison's Defeat and after coming to terms with his past, he got to travel and experience the world, thus justifying a more lively Abel.
My problem with Rufus is part of my problem with the SF4 roster being filled with jokes. The role of "Ken's rival in America" could be filled by someone who doesn't act like Dan. Worse, since he was actually powerful he doesn't even work as a joke the way Dan does.
I mean comparing Abel to other non-Ryu SF protagonists really shows how much he got the short end of the stick. Rashid and Luke are far more charismatic, Luke got a massive improvement in 6, and Alex had an iconic design and a very unique personality for a protagonist. Abel just kinda exists, there's nothing really special about him. He's just some white guy
I always really liked Rufus's concept. There's...I guess I'd call it "deliberatly contrasting dynamics" in his design that make him really stand out to me as opposed to characters that are more straightforward in how they present themselves. The obvious example being that he's a big guy, but his gameplay is fast. Usually when a character is meant to be fast or slow they've done a great job of conveying that in design. Ibuki and El Fuerte are going to be more agile than Zangief or Honda, and you can tell just by looking at them. You might say that that's not great design because you're being presented with misleading visual information and I'd agree if it happened regularly across the cast. But the fact that Rufus is the ONLY character who breaks that mold made it pretty obvious to me that the contrast is what they were deliberately aiming for. He was supposed to be a character who wasn't what he seemed on the surface. Which also translated to his story and personality. Yes, it's annoying and abrasive, but again that's just the contrast to his actual skill and competence. Rufus is a couch potato who liked kung fu action movies so much he went to China and trained a bit until he could pull off the cool kind of moves he liked from the movies. It's not a fighting style that should work (being based on unrealistic spectacle rather than any kind of practicality or even sport) and his minimal background and training in martial arts should mean he shouldn't be able to fight effectively at all. And yet he's turned it into an actually working style to the point where Rufus may be one of the most prodigal martial arts geniuses in the canon. And that's backed up by canon, as many of the other characters' win quotes against him actually praise Rufus for how much he's been able to do, how skillful he actually is, or how he'd be a major threat if he just got his attitude together. Again, here it's the contrast that makes him stand out. He's basically Dan but if Dan actually had the skill and competence to back up his bluster. I'd really love to see Rufus come back and have that design be iterated on. I think as long as they don't make him skinny and keep his rushdown gameplay there's room to iterate on his personality to start slowly showing him actually gaining mastery and competence over time while mellowing out his attitude. With the right attention to character development and shaving off the rough edges that make people not like him so much over time I think you could do some really cool things with the character.
Rufus biggest design sin is that they make him disgusting. Capcom has this thing with designing big character to be.. kind of a freak. Abigail, Birdie, even Zangief to an extent. he wants me to smell his muscles lmao wtf
Lore-wise, Arakune stresses me out. He devours the fighters he defeats in battle, as well as the kaka people, and adds their bones to his body as weapons. 😐

@TheGameGallowsPlay *everyone should have Luke's personality
The blandness comes partially because he basically didn't remember his past.
The problem is that people judge Abel with different standards than a veteran like Honda. Just because of the veteran status, some plain old characters get a pass while the newcomers are harshly and strictly judged.
@@cylondorado4582 to be fair all those cut scenes were terrible

Abel absolutely needs to comeback. I feel like Manon is the evolution of his playstyle. If he were to return for SF6, I imagine he'd be added towards the end of it's life.
Manon's existence is clearly the sign that Abel is not returning.
I kinda liked the dude in SF4. But I've learnt to find more appeal into Manon's concept.
Abel is white toast as hell. He makes Ryu look edgy.
Manon is fabulous. Oozing personality without being pigeon-holed.
No. Abel like C Viper and Alex tried to be a protag character.
I don't like Strive but a toned down version of Zappa where he still has more reasonable RNG summons would pull me back in
I am in disbelief, no one has mentioned El fuerte.
BRO. Now I want Oro to give up on Ryu and train Rufus, instead!!!
Don't use a Thermian Argument, no amount of lore can cover that he just sucks as a character. Maybe not as a player but definitely as a character
Well now I want a more serious and mature Rufus in SF6😂
The self taught trope is one used far too much in video games and if you take away the fact that he really has no certain style to call his own it looks more pathetic.
Rule of thumb for joke characters: LITERALLY THE STRONGEST CHARACTER FROM THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE but they too dumb brow!!!

Wild how Zato just keeps coming back despite being an actual problem in basically every game he's in
Even when he was dead he mopped the floor with the cast!
I actually think they could make Rufus work if they brought him back in SF6. With the current direction they're going with Ken it would actually make a lot of sense for him to return.
Juri taking off and C.Viper disappearing is proof there is no justice in the world
Completely agree, C. Viper was great. I thought she could be more popular, since she was even in MvC3. I feel like she'd be more well received nowadays, for some reason, but I'm not sure if she's even here, considering SF's weird ass timeline.
At least viper is AMAZING in mvc3
Time for my unpopular opinion, I hate C. Viper's design. I like the gameplay a bunch and used her for some time, but her costume combined with her glasses were such a turnoff for me, especially knowing that she was supposed to appeal to westerners in an era where they catered to heavily to the west. She reminds me of Katarina from T7; sexualized characters without that "it" factor to their design, so they end up generic.
@@DynoDunes Really? What I enjoyed most of her was that she was less sexualized than, say Cammy or Juri, but to each their own, I suppose.
Juri is just better
In Street Fighter it's pretty common for female characters to generally get more waves than male characters. I myself mostly play girl characters just because they tend to fit my style of play and design choices more. With that said I think Jamie will take off pretty well and has the right things to be a popular male character
I also always gravitated more towards female fighters. Characters like Sakura, Makoto, BB Hood, Hsien Ko, the entire Skullgirls roster… Not sure why but might be because of their more distinct personalities.
Yup, it seems like what determines if a character gets to come back for future iterations is how horny they make the fans.

Some of the only successful protagonists are Luke and Rashid anyone else was flat (not counting Ryu or Ken).

Seth in SFV, is easily one of the best redesigns!
ok lore time, basically seth’s (sf4) body was intended to be a new body for m bison after he died in sf2. it didnt really work so shadoloo threw it out, somehow the body gained consciousness and that consciousness could be cloned and put into other bodies. (the consciousness is heavily implied to be male) after ryu wrecks the 2nd seth body (sf4 is wacky) its not fully destroyed so juri puts seths consciousness into a different body (that either juri make or found) which has a very feminine appearance. so like, seth is more like trans? so probably female but not? it’s weird.

I wouldnt see her as evil at all. Maybe something like chaotic neutral. While working for the bad guys in IV, she ultimately went against them.
Rufus is one of my favorite joke character and I would welcome him whole-heartidly in the future along with r. mika, and Dudley
Rufus is a weird but great design and gameplay. Bringing him back where he has been humbled down, and become a bit more fit would be awesome. Showing some growth.

I want to see whether Hakan will make a comeback in st6 because he is a interesting character with crazy gimmicks.
If nothing else just to hear James Chen say oil a billion more times
Juri is bae. Dude tripping. It's great to finally have a female sadistic villain with a great design.
That'd be hilarious
Nah, let him be large, just give him more stuff based around it. Think Paul Blart but with jiggle physics
There’s one thing we know is that we ARE TRAPPED IN THE WORLD OF SFIII
Ah, that old nursery rhyme.
I am sorry but Rufus epic on his stupid way. I love him
I dont want juri to just be gone forever, however i feel like she could sit out a game or two
I will actually turn +R off if I get matched against a justice player. As an aba player that matchup is just the most infuriating thing ever
I think some of these are characters that scare people too, like Arakune is horrific and Zappa is a possessed dude.

Yeah, I always thought Abel was really super plain, but when I actually tried him I thought his moveset was a lot of fun.
Ed is such a weird character. And even weirder was that his art showed him as being really slim but in game he's looks really weird and Bulky.
@Kazue Glassheardt Yeah, in cutscenes he looks like Eminem with that hoodie on, then he suddenly gets the proportions of his mentor Balrog.
It would be very Capcom-ish to bring Rufus back to the series while keeping characters like C.Viper under lock and key.
Rufus was dope! I think he will be back for sure.
Ya no Juri isn’t going anywhere as she basically became a staple to SF like Ken, Cammy, and Guile but not on the same level of Ryu and ChungLi.
You see a new SF trailer and it's like "New Fighter, Remy, and Juri...'s cancellation."
Naw I know what they meant but honestly, Juri's become what they wanted out of Crimson Viper, and she's been popular enough to put her in 3 games with less push (Viper was in MVC3 remember.) I think the science is settled on Juri.
💯 Rufus rocks and was definitely top 5 funnest character in the game
Abel should definitely come back in a post Street Fighter 5 game.
See the main problem people have with him is that his personality is bland. That's a issue that would be so ridiculously easy to fix in a way that'd make sense.
Personality is developped through life and experiences.
Being a artificial human with no memories and in a pretty serious mission, it make sense for him to lack personality. They could easily say that following Bison's Defeat and after coming to terms with his past, he got to travel and experience the world, thus justifying a more lively Abel.
Abel deserves a come back, sfv was a mistake in general lol. juri made it 3 games in a row? not sure how.. lol
My problem with Rufus is part of my problem with the SF4 roster being filled with jokes. The role of "Ken's rival in America" could be filled by someone who doesn't act like Dan. Worse, since he was actually powerful he doesn't even work as a joke the way Dan does.
Bye Dan in SFIV wasn't that bad (no way high tier but no longer a complete joke)
my pick is the evil-ryu and akuma clones. kage was a mistake. oni was also a mistake.
I loved twelve but in my heart I know he's never coming back
Rufus's ridiculous belly physics was one of the things that got me into fighting games.
Just sayin'.
I probably will never play a Guilty Gear game again until Zappa is a playable character.
The person who picked Juri is like the ultimate anti-coomer
what does that mean
@@TheEvilCheesecake No kidding the hell does that even mean lmao
Rufus biggest design sin is that they make him disgusting. Capcom has this thing with designing big character to be.. kind of a freak. Abigail, Birdie, even Zangief to an extent. he wants me to smell his muscles lmao wtf
Didn't realize Abel was the sort of protagonist of SF4. So that makes it Alex, Abel, Luke... definitely a pattern there 😆
as a FANG player, I'm surprised I didn't see him on this list
Don’t say that to rufus he’s cool :(
It's kinda funny, Zappa is my mother's favorite character
As a non Rufus user during the SF4 years I get the hate, but in recent years I discovered how insanely fun he is to use!!
Lore-wise, Arakune stresses me out. He devours the fighters he defeats in battle, as well as the kaka people, and adds their bones to his body as weapons. 😐
