At Hot Topic, when me and my boyfriend went there in the same mall area they immediately asked if we needed help finding anything and were the friendliest people I’ve ever met. This was only a few months ago!
Going to hollister with my cousins is burned into my memory bc they’re like these tiny blonde people and I’m a robust human being, and the way pop conservative stores make you feel if in a pinch they couldn’t use your waist as a cocaine straw is honestly crushing. I was in Hot Topic with my mom once and they were playing a Guns and Roses song in the store and my mom said she saw them in concert back in the day. Every employee thought she was the coolest person ever. Hot Topic employees are the nicest people ever. 😂
My kid and I were in a Hot Topic, and were looking at the shirts when “White Horse “ came on. My daughter grew up hearing this so she started singing along. I asked her if she knew what the song was about, and proceeded to tell her. The employee was on the other side of the racks and she popped out going, “No way!” It was great….
i was a manager at hot topic for 3 years and i promise none of us care what you’re wearing or what you look like, we’re usually the ones “bullied” or made fun of and we never want anyone else to feel that way! 🖤
Bro I had a hot topic employee hype me up about my body type and gave me the confidence to try on a skirt and now I have 3 of them and I love them all. She was my gateway to confidence for my style Edit: because some of y'all need to hear this 1. My body type is curvier with a slim waist, so the skirts would slide up and a appear too short. I am not, nor do I support being obese 2. Yes I understand she was a saleswoman, but she actually did a good job. She helped me gain confidence, even if it was for the sales, I appreciate her and her work. She deserved my money because she was so sweet and gentle about it. 3. I don't always need affirmation to do something, I simply had so many fails in a row that I was discouraged, I expected the skirts not to fit, as they seemed to me the same length and the hem didn't look any different. Now if y'all are so insecure and unhappy with yourself that you have to accuse me of being a woke transgender obese insecure pushover, that's sad. I'm not trans, I'm not obese, and I'm happy with how I look. I understand that clothes were made to fit people not people meant to fit clothes. Thank you.
hot topic employees are always so nice i swear 😭😭 i met one at a mall that i went to and i bought a lot of strawberry themed clothes (i have a fixation on strawberries, i think its the adhd) and she was so nice!!! she said “yk we are having a clearance sale and i saw a strawberry dress in medium over there!” and im so grateful for her 🫶🫶
I worked there in 2006 to 2007 and the number of people pushing their friends toward our store jokingly and the genuine fear those people expressed made me chuckle. I'd always welcome them on in and be like, "Yeah, come see what we're about!" They would always run out, though.
Because you actually had bad experiences, places like hollister and aero were meant to be ‘better than you’ if you didn’t pull that attitude while working you weren’t working
@SilkandStones Sounds more like you guys just caught a case of Social Anxiety. On the real, they were probably just making sure you guys weren't shop lifting and y'all thought they were looking at you weirdly.

Omg I was a teen and had some serious social anxiety and the hot topic lady could sense that as I fumbled with my money and offered quietly to count it for me and proceeded to explain why she "had to do it because she often messed up on customers money". She made herself look bad for me... 🥺 deep respect for early 2000's hot topic workers. ❤️
Most if not all hot topic employees have similar backgrounds including me i used to work at one and i used to help alot of anxious young men find out how to deal with buying their own clothes for the first time which included alot of counting money which i hated math in school.
That's how my mom and aunt reacted when they took me to a hot topic. I just walked in and looked back at them and said "It's okay you can come in. It won't eat you." 🤣. Every hot topic I've been in the employees have always been so nice. We punks and metal heads are kind souls we promise!

One time a hot topic employee thought i was stealing because new things jump out to me every time i visit there i think they are hunting me for my head next time i go there
Holy shit yes I remember being intimidated walking past Hot Topic back in the day, yet little did I know some of the emo's, punk kids and goths were some of the nicest people in the school.
I remember I went to the mall with my friends and we went into hot topic and we wanted something but we couldn’t afford it so we all were whining about it (jokingly) and then a worker walked up to us and said, “Hey, sorry to eavesdrop, but I heard you say you didn’t have enough money. If you’re fine with it, we can give you some money.” 😭💕
Ah, yes, early 2000s Hot Topic, when it felt like a fusion of a goth rave and a biker bar, and you thought you were risking your life just walking in the entrance... good times!
i miss it so much. i didnt have the means to get to the local hot topic back then when i had the money. now i do but its all harry potter and nightmare before christmas with only a few band tees in a corner. also the local mall got turned into a truck stop but still.
ive never seen a hot topic worker look at anyone with any judgement in their eyes. they want to share their love of gothic clothes and accessories with ANYONE who also has an appreciation for it!
I’ve actually been made to feel more welcome by the goth crowds than anyone else no matter what I’m wearing. As a teen my entire friend group was goth at some points. I was the oddball out but I loved them and they loved me!
When I was a kid from a village, I went to a city that had a hot topic to pick my graduation/senior dance clothes. I was being shy but this guy said "you're gonna love me after this" and he gave me a makeover with Tripp pants, nice button upshirt, pinstripe jacket, tie with skulls, fedora. I felt amazing despite being a little cringe. Those were my teenage dirtbag years
It’s because it’s more about anime than gothic culture now, which I fine. It’s not called “goth topic” so not surprised they changed their brand to fit the “Hot topic.”
@@that_pan_chick8650 but what happened to their slogan "all about the music"? that's what the store was about, and it was a go-to for many. have you seen the commercials from the 90s? watch them and anyone would agree. there are many other stores that cater to anime and videogames, why change one of the only big stores for people that liked the cool stuff? it's disappointing. and i'm not the first person who has said this. it's a pretty common opinion. they are somewhat trying to bring it back, but people want the full hot topic glory.

At 40 ive done the same thing, but i cant stay in for more than 2 minutes before i want out. Its very different too say the least.
Lol…that’s pretty funny haha
🤣🤣🤣
Lol hell ya
Place should have never existed to begin with
Is it just me or are all the hot topic workers always SO FINE-
Honestly. I haven't seen one bad looking one ever. Big or small they were all hot.
Eyeliner is a miracle worker.
yesss
I know right? I mean I remember seeing a hot Goth guy with piercing blue eyes that worked at a Hot Topic. I remember talking to him once and oh my god his voice, he sounded like the grave robber from Repo the Genetic Opera, wow, just wow.
Because you have to be attractive to work there
until you walk in and they are absolute sweethearts
Hot Topic employees are always super friendly and happy to help!
I once walked into a hot topic wearing a blue and white dress with a white puff sleeve shirt and got lots of compliments, can confirm ppl there are chill af
Truly. I once walked into a Hot Topic wearing a heart print skirt, a white t shirt and a strawberry necklace and the workers were so nice to me. I like shopping at Hot Topic for band tees because their customer service is so great.
I think hot topic then vs hot topic now is a completely different beast
Walked into a hot topic naked. They complimented my ass 😤
❤❤❤
@@instructionsunclear7953 not really, that was my experience in the 2000s. They have kind of disappointing size options in clothes (or used to idk ours closed) but the employees were always super sweet
Honestly the hot topic workers are really nice they won’t judge you at all
Edit: guys I’m talking about the current hot topic workers I know it was different in 2006 lol
Fr every time i check out at hot topic they always have something nice to say about my outfit even though I’m not like goth or anything like that tho lol, they also always make great conversation too if you’re buying something that they like too
literally i wore a lot of like american eagle and i have blonde hair and blue eyes (so i kind of look like a stereotypical grade A b*tch) (I PROMISE IM NOT 😭) and they did not care at all. but im a huge anime fan too and i think it kind of confused them a lil bit but they didnt show any sign of judgement so tis nice (but this was when i was like 12-13 so like in 2017)
I used to go in preppy looking as hell, no one judged me at all and everyone was super kind
Im guessing it was different in 2006
They really are so freaking nice like one just kept complimenting me and asked how old I was lmao
Still do it to this day 😂😂
Hot topic employees were alway goofy and nice.
Hot topics staff were always nice and upbeat and sooo helpful it was hollister stars that were rude, stuck up and annoyed at everything
I was just about to say this, also Abercrombie workers
Nah… it was boff’em.
Yeah, and if you didn’t fit their “type” they tried to get you out quick
When I tried applying to work at hollister and went in for an interview it was the same thing. Even the manager acted like a middle school girl. All the staff were just a mess, there was no order or anything, they all just went on their phones and did whatever they wanted.
I was a child. Who are these adults glaring down at non waifish children. Like I was a baby Clarissa
This is a gem!
Bro I had a hot topic employee hype me up about my body type and gave me the confidence to try on a skirt and now I have 3 of them and I love them all. She was my gateway to confidence for my style
Edit: because some of y'all need to hear this
1. My body type is curvier with a slim waist, so the skirts would slide up and a appear too short. I am not, nor do I support being obese
Thank you.
hot topic employees are always so nice i swear 😭😭 i met one at a mall that i went to and i bought a lot of strawberry themed clothes (i have a fixation on strawberries, i think its the adhd) and she was so nice!!! she said “yk we are having a clearance sale and i saw a strawberry dress in medium over there!” and im so grateful for her 🫶🫶
that just means they did their job and sold you more clothes.
@@vz8432 well yeah, but she made me feel good abt myself, whether for sales or not, I appreciated it and felt better, so still a win to me!
@@cl0udy_b01 omg that's so sweet! Plus all your strawberry clothes remind me of Strawberry Shortcake (the character but the cake works too)
AWWWW that’s so precious 🥺🥺🥺🥺
I worked there in 2006 to 2007 and the number of people pushing their friends toward our store jokingly and the genuine fear those people expressed made me chuckle. I'd always welcome them on in and be like, "Yeah, come see what we're about!" They would always run out, though.
😂😂😂 this was definitely me and my cousins as kids back in 2006/7 , but when 2008 hit everyone started going for the studded belts and band shirts
I used to just wave from the register like "hey guys" so many little punk discovered themselves while I was there
Lol my friends and I got our hair dye there back then and our gages and jewelry at the time I had about 30 piercings
It was a different time, I was scared to go in too 😂 The style just wasn’t as accepted then and people don’t seem to understand this 😂
I was about 13 at that time lmao that was definitely me 🤣😂🤣🤣. Good times I swear
Hot topic workers r actually so nice
I call it the "vampire lair"😂😂😂
Damn I didn't know Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way was at your local hot topic

I was on the opposite, looking emo and feeling nervous to walk into stores that weren’t spencer’s or hot topic for being judged 😭
Me, too. :(
Because you actually had bad experiences, places like hollister and aero were meant to be ‘better than you’ if you didn’t pull that attitude while working you weren’t working
Aw same lol 😅
I definitely got the up down look and sneer
@@natashanault no they weren't meant to be "better than you" you're being a hypocrite, which makes you no better.
Meeee
Hot Topic is literally the least judgmental zone of the mall, everyone is welcome and there's something for everyone.
@SilkandStones Sounds more like you guys just caught a case of Social Anxiety. On the real, they were probably just making sure you guys weren't shop lifting and y'all thought they were looking at you weirdly.
The store and the employees are two different things.
This is really wonderful!
This takes me back 😂 Thanks
one time i asked a hot topic employee to count my money for me because i was really anxious and couldn’t count and she was really understanding i love that lady😭
I've had to count money for kids today when delivering 🍕.
Cringing
@@slmped8598why lol, it’s being human & that’s definitely okay.
That's how my mom and aunt reacted when they took me to a hot topic. I just walked in and looked back at them and said "It's okay you can come in. It won't eat you." 🤣. Every hot topic I've been in the employees have always been so nice. We punks and metal heads are kind souls we promise!
That's true. I was a teenager when that store came out, and I saw all types of people go in the store
100%
True I went in there once just to look around the people were so nice. I’ve always wondered why people think goth, emo, punk people are bad. Never understood it 🤷🏽♂️
Actual punks aren't going to be caught dead in a bullshit store that's owned by the same massive conglomerate that owns the gap. Giving your money to billionaires is not punk. Punks do shit ourselves.
Hot Topic, where your Rebellion can be bought at 20 bucks a pop. Give me a fuckin break
POV: the hot topic dress code 🖤
Hot topic workers are so nice ❤
Hot topic workers are the sweetest people ever
How? They only look annoyed when anyone ever walks in lol. Ive been a couple times and niggas always just look like they wanna go home 😂 after seeing countless people come in just to look at dildos im sure it gets old. Hot Topic is just for edgy teens anyway that wanna standout
I've never met a rude hot topic worker tbh, always so helpful and encouraging.
Yes your one fucking experience speaks for the millions of stores around the world.
Right, they don't even care if you steal

Dope band Ts and Invader Zim merch.

It’s funny bc it’s the Hollister employees that will judge you even for when you’re wearing preppy Hollister clothes 💀
YES LOL
I dunno, some of the girls are actually sweet at the one closest to me....
I used to feel judged just for walking by Hollister 😂 Hot topic always had the most kind and helpful employees ever!
There were a few times I went into Hollister and the employees would just snicker and glare at me for having the audacity to enter the store. 😅
Hot topic hit different back in the day 😂
This video literally got me into MCR music and now I’m obsessed with the band.
Hot topic workers are legit the nicest people ever
the hot topic employees give you the whole store for free and just say shhh don’t tell anyone. i swear they look so scary but are actually the nicest people
Nah fr
You’re acting like they are all the same
They look scary? Lol
Hot topic workers are actually some of the sweetest people known to mankind
Hot topic workers are actually pretty nice irl

Not me going in anyways 😂
I like to imagine they become girlfriends later
Ok but I never got this look from a hot topic employee but got it plenty from Hollister and Abercrombie workers

I remember I went to the mall with my friends and we went into hot topic and we wanted something but we couldn’t afford it so we all were whining about it (jokingly) and then a worker walked up to us and said, “Hey, sorry to eavesdrop, but I heard you say you didn’t have enough money. I’ve gotten hooked up multiple times for my gauges at Hot Topic. Love the employees there!
Seems like yesterday
The hot topic workers don't judge, the TEENAGERS do judge the workers (some) honestly the workers are nice and sweet!
got me feeling old af I'm not okay with this😂
I have never been scared to walk into hot topic. I love that store.
hot topic workers are such sweethearts tbh, theyre some of the nicest workers in the mall imo
ive never seen a hot topic worker look at anyone with any judgement in their eyes. they want to share their love of gothic clothes and accessories with ANYONE who also has an appreciation for it!
HT workers are a different breed🖤
Wow this song I have not heard in almost 20 years 😍
I’ve actually been made to feel more welcome by the goth crowds than anyone else no matter what I’m wearing. As a teen my entire friend group was goth at some points. I was the oddball out but I loved them and they loved me!
My bestie was a face painter. I was just a normal metalhead. But we loved each other.
Goth and the Metal community are the best!!!
There are people who hate preps and are very exclusionary. Mostly highschool kids but its out there
Yup they played "kids games" through out highschool like adults! 😃
@@MrFRNTIK That’s because preps are just as exclusionary as any other group in school
Hot topic is nothing like what it was back then, I would've loved it so much.
I mean... I wouldnt say nothing like it was. Just more commercial than it was. I miss the fat shoelaces rip
It’s because it’s more about anime than gothic culture now, which I fine. It’s not called “goth topic” so not surprised they changed their brand to fit the
“Hot topic.”
It's Disney and Funko pops now lol
@@that_pan_chick8650
but what happened to their slogan "all about the music"? that's what the store was about, and it was a go-to for many. have you seen the commercials from the 90s? watch them and anyone would agree.
there are many other stores that cater to anime and videogames, why change one of the only big stores for people that liked the cool stuff? it's disappointing.
and i'm not the first person who has said this. it's a pretty common opinion. they are somewhat trying to bring it back, but people want the full hot topic glory.
@x this, as a current employee I can confirm, we to are trying to turn it back lol. Most of us hate the sheer amount of shit we get. Like, how merch and some game merch is fine, but at its heart its music merch and subculter shit. If the company would listen to anyone it would be lit.
