I did find out that as I grew older I found out that even in "normal" clothing I could still be me, so now in my 30's I just stick to regular jeans, the band t-shirts did make a comeback since they also make them slim fitting :)

Yay, Cy Popps videos ! I'm going to binge on them one of these days~ 🥰 ! Yeah, style is alive and tied to the nebula we call "self", feelings about how we look to others and how to change. It seems easy when you don't look for anything in particular, but then it gets hard when you have even the vaguest idea of what to look for. It was pretty struggley for your emo/goth clothing but it was and still is even worse for my femboy clothing 😵💫
I still have it lol! I keep thinking about if I should make a more exaggerated version of it to cosplay as myself xD Omg the belts! If i wear a belt in 2022 i feel like im being squeezed to death 😆
You're so underrated. Im going trough finding my own style right now and i've really fallen inlove with scene fashion (and would say i know quite a lot) from stuff like watching Invader Zim. I connect with you a lot with being neurodivergent and noticing how you're different from other kids
All my clothes were bought for me by my mum and I had no fashion sense as a teenager until I left school to go to University. When all these bands like System of a Down and Rammstein came out in the early 2000s it totally changed my life and my look. Suddenly baggy jeans and metal music were fashionable. Those were good times. Part of me wishes I was born 5-10 years later, because the mid-late 90s when I was still in high school, we didn't have goth/mosher/emo fashion yet and all the popular kids wore tracksuits and listened to rave music. That said, at least i got to grow up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The second you mentioned undiagnosed autism I was like OH MY GOD ME TOO HOLY CRAP, as a kid with undiagnosed autism, a scenmo style, and a belief in scene clothing being amazing, I think you’re pretty cool :)
my emo phase was just me fighting with my mom for the right of growing bangs that covered my eyes lol to this day my hair is still a bit emo but not so much because my hair got curly and light out of random for some reason so it's not covering a lot of my face anymore (forehead is still covered i hate my forehead) other than that, i don't tend to change my fashion a lot, i like to go unnoticed so i just wear whatever i have available (except if it's a formal event, in that case i'll buy new clothes or use a pretty one of course)
I was also an undiagnosed autistic kid who wished they were confident enough to dress scene like I wanted to 😭 now I get to do whatever I want thankfully!
I love listening to your stories! I think hot topic was a starting point for me. I liked hot topic as a kid when it was more focused on music scenes than it did for anime. (nothing wrong with anime, I love anime in fact, but I wish hot topic had a line up similar to its origins). A friend of mine in HS worked at a hot topic. He was a punk and hated every moment. He and I would shop at Red Zone anyway, because they had the cool stuff. Patches, chains, shirts, a lot of punk and metal stuff. I know hot topic has some of that but not to the extend of red zone. But hey, that's just my opinion. XD I don't claim to be right! 10/10 video!
I wasn't really allowed to dress how I wanted at school because I was bullied for wearing a Gorillaz shirt to school. My parents didn't do it to be mean, more out of fear I'd be bullied. It took me a bit to advocate to dress more how I wanted to dress until I was sixteen. Man, I wish I could've dressed more alt in middle and high school. It's easier when you're an adult and you can choose what you wear.
As an autistic trans woman, I really relate to this. My story with coming to terms with my fashion style had a couple false starts and wrong turns, but looking back I mostly enjoyed it.
As a kid growing up I found it very hard getting the respect I deserve from others. I try to be like someone who thousands of people admire the most, only to shunned by everyone. They would look at me with strange looks as if to say "Who the heck do you think you are?" So I go back to the way I was. Disrespected, ignored, bullied, in other words I was just a "NOBODY". I try to get a girl friend and girls would turn and run the other way as if I was the most disgusting thing on Earth. A priest once said. "Don't ever be troubled about what others think of you. In God's eyes you are perfect the way you are, faults and all." Mr. Rodgers couldn't have said it better himself. "It's you I like, it's not the clothes you wear, it's not the way you do your hair but it's you ike." "you know? I like you just the way you are, It's just you being you."
@@Cypopps yeah i remember getting in2 that sorta music around 7th grade but i didn't care about lyrics at the time (i still actually tune out lyrics 2 this day :/) anywez at the time i wuz in2 emo/scene music cuz of how emotional, eclectic, and even bombastic the songs can get. literally the very 1st album i listen 2 thruout wuz black parade + 2 this day i still admire every song 4 the production, the flashy guitars, the innovative use of instruments outside of punk or emo at the time, and of course gerald's singing
This reminds me of the time i first tried to look scene. I wore black shirts, plastic beaded accesories, a checkered scrunchie with converse. It wasnt until l8ter i got eyeliner and eyeshadow. I also started wearing ties a lot. Though in the end i just ended up dressing more emo than scene. Mostly wearing black and ditching the extensions i got.
I would love to buy clothes at hot topic cuz i wanna look cool but Sadly my mom is on a budget so she can't really buy anything for me right now 😐 but i do have 2 skirts from hot topic
I was more into wearing the vintage rock attire my parents had in the late 70s and through out the whole 80s. Lots of concert shirts, lots of denim and large military colored coats and pants. And Doc Martins youll tear up and your mom will chew you out for not taking care of them. And thats what I wear and still wear evem today

No bcuz I’m currently “transitioning” I dunno if that’s the right word lol. But I’ve loved the scene fashion and music for years I’m so lucky to have supportive parents. My mommas taking me to get a wardrobe change. I’m so excited and I’m looking at videos to help me find a good start to it and this is what I found xD. If anybody has recommendations please do share! Thank you to this video I found your channel!! :3
Oh god I always wanted to be a scene kid but couldn't get into emo-punk-rock aesthetics and becoming a goth wasn't an option since my mom is a goth and that would defeat the whole purpose of a makeover. I'm glad that I found my own style in a way. And I became a skater boi anyway sooo... that's a scene haha. My only critique points: try adding some chill background music and a tip: if you edit your audio, everytime there's silence try to mute that part so other noises like static etc. Isn't heard. I say that because there was like 1-2 times where it came through. Maybe background music could drown it out but yeah in general it's better to mute 'em. But yeah generally nice video, am looking forward to the next one :D
Being scene was hard, I never had the hair but imagine the hair upkeep with all those choppy layers and hair dye lol. And ty for the critique! I know nothing about audio so I will try to look up how to best address some of the weird static with my setup! & yay ty :>
@@Cypopps you could use the free software "Audacity" for voice recordings. It's pretty easy to mute certain parts of an audio track. It also features other things like filters and equalization but that's not really necessary for your needs (I guess)
Ha ha person on the spectrum here and I gotta say this reminds me of when I wanted to do gothic clothing and the aesthetic when I was 13. However since I was in Catholic Private school from grade school to high school and due to not having much money I didn't start wearing the clothing until going into my first year of college like I started slowly bit by bit where I started wearing black nail polish by 15, black lipstick and eye shadow at 16, and I started wearing gothic clothing when I was 18 in college. Lol I usually wear it on Fridays tho
Can you help me? I was never normal enough to be normal, and I was never autistic enough to be autistic. Even though I have a lot of autism signs, I just feel like I don’t fit in with the autism spectrum. I know autism is different for everyone, but I don’t have massive learning problems, massive sensory issues, and the difficulty to malfunction. It feels like I’m only mildly autistic
I understand how you feel, I felt the same way for a long time and it caused me a lot of shame and distress. What helped was having other neurodivergent friends who understood my experiences and wanted to help me. They helped me recognize what made me so afraid of accepting I could really be ND, and eventually led to me accepting I have adhd (and maybe autism, still not sure about that, but I’m at least more open to the idea now). It sounds to me like you are neurodivergent in some capacity. The fact that you seemingly feel some sense of understanding from or belonging in the neurodivergent community is massive evidence for that in and of itself. I recommend that you connect with the neurodivergent community in one way or another. It’s totally okay to associate with them without being sure of whether you are ND yourself or not. You’ll probably gain useful skills and learn more about yourself by being around folks who are more like you. I guarantee there are other people like you out there, maybe they are autistic, maybe they’re some other form of ND, but it seems like you don’t think your people are the neurotypical kind, so just be kind to yourself, give yourself permission to be a part of what community helps you to be a part of, and you will find them and yourself eventually
@@placeholder2937heyaaa a year later and I got diagnosed with adhd! Thx for the advice and I hope to surround myself with neurodivergent people like you said, as I already have some neurodivergent friends I can rely on. Also i think I’m getting tested in the fall for autism so things are looking better. A year ago I was lost and kinda depressed but now I feel a lot better Thxxxx so much for the thoughtful advice!!!!! :]
honestly the whole thing about alternative art styles is not being allowed in hot topic and looking kinda crusty for a few years until you can relive it all a few years later, too bad hot topic fucking SUCKSSS now
Ty!!! I made it a while ago, and have since improved, so as a typical artist I’m like “ah this video stinks now” but hearing stuff like this makes me feel so much better :)
When you think about it, we're all weird in our own special ways. But I don't think of it as a bad thing. In recent years I've noticed more and more men are wearing kilts. It may have something to do with Global warming or it could be the Pride movement wherebisexual gender people want the same love, respect and understanding as straight people. I can go along with that to I could go as far as wearing a skirt to show my support for them. In my case, someone would have to lock the skirt on me to make sure I go through with it. I had a dream once where I was doing volunteer work to help the homeless. what was weird about this dream is I was wearing a skirt with a chain in place for a belt and it was padlocked tight and the key was no where to be found. I couldn't get it off so I continued on with my work the whole time like this. Can you imagine having a simular dream like that.
I remember one time, I told my mom about how I had thought about going goth because I loved the look of darker characters (mainly with the ODST from Halo) but ultamitely decided against it because absolutely nothing else matched up with my personality. She pointed out that I was literally holding a giant Curious George plush while telling her this. Yes, I am a teenager. Why do you ask?
Also if you still can’t think of a voice, I would suggest using a computer program. I always liked using the one Red vs. Blue from rooster teeth used to voice Gamma.
Wow great guess! Only a small handful of people were right :> and ty for the advice, I was thinking of making a computerized voice like Sans from Undertale :0

This videos is great!!! I pretty much only wear band shirts lmao
I'm happy you liked it, tysm! I still have a lot of band shirts but nowadays I've been wearing them to sleep lol
A year ago I was lost and kinda depressed but now I feel a lot better
Thxxxx so much for the thoughtful advice!!!!! :]
GOSH!! THAT... MICKEY-SKULL BRACELET...!! 🤤

Wow the MIckey Mouse thing killed me
honestly the whole thing about alternative art styles is not being allowed in hot topic and looking kinda crusty for a few years until you can relive it all a few years later, too bad hot topic fucking SUCKSSS now
Yeah Hot Topic has definitely changed! Now it’s kind of like the Disney store lol
I honestly go to thrift stores or rock merch stores or online because hot topic isn’t great anymore
Great video!
Ty!!! I made it a while ago, and have since improved, so as a typical artist I’m like “ah this video stinks now” but hearing stuff like this makes me feel so much better :)
Hot Topic is one my favorite stores at the mall.
Ha ha, I remember when I did that, I think that at certain age everyone just builds their own style and changes wardrobe.
I accidentally dressed scene all throughout 7th and 8th grade, just found out…
I can't wait for your next video! :3
Aw ty!! It's coming in April :D
"Purple **gasp** eyeess....**cough** hot...topic....**cough**"

How nice.
the autism part is so relatable
Ahh yes. “Goog”
Girl we could have been besties in middle school 😭🙏
We have the same personality and enjoy the same things
I like the little guy with your character :)
My character has a mushroom named Moshi btw
Funny shirt phrase about the llama
Well I'm new to this channel, but this video is great! Awesome scene style BTW!👍👍👍😎😎😎🔥🔥💥
popps looks like unown like the pokemon
I remember one time, I told my mom about how I had thought about going goth because I loved the look of darker characters (mainly with the ODST from Halo) but ultamitely decided against it because absolutely nothing else matched up with my personality. She pointed out that I was literally holding a giant Curious George plush while telling her this. Yes, I am a teenager. Why do you ask?
I wanna be scene so bad but scared to ask my mom to take me to hot topic because she’ll call me emo😭
This is so cool to me!!!!! I'm autistic and I absolutely love scene/emo!! >
I need that bracelet 😭😂
my fashion sense is long pink hair, a black bow in hair, pink floyd shirt, pink skirt and black and white striped socks
That’s why I wear jeans and a t-shirt every day.
that’s a good outfit! I don’t wear jeans anymore these days lol
I like your contact a lot
ty!!
2:28 cute
Your pet looks like seek from doors
What do you use to bring your drawing to YT?? I'm very interested in the program.
i am not sure but it’s digital so it could be a lot of apps
YESSSSSS I GOT THE PREDICTION I MADE RIGHT. WOOOHHOOOOO
@@Cypopps thank youuuuu :3

You can do it!! Just practice a lot, and over time, it's sure to happen :)
