The best video on the topic! Followed the instructions and have hot water pressure again! The strange thing is that my house is 8 years old and we have never used this guest shower, so not sure how the cartridge had gone bad?! Maybe from sitting there without water flowing through it?! Thanks again!
Also, keep an eye out for the flow restrictors that are installed by the MFG's, you will greatly improve your shower experience if you can figure out how to delete it. Great video. I appreciated the candid style with a 'non-acting' type of delivery.
Great job describing the parts and how to...love to see any hiccups, because in the real world we always have issues, like the part not coming off easily. GREAT VIDEO!
great video! any advice on how to increase the water pressure just in the shower? the sinks around our house all have amazing pressure, except for our showers. we tried to remov the water pressure valve thing inside the head, deep cleaned the heads, and bought a new shower head and still get very weak pressure. do you know of anything else we can try before calling a plumber 😢
Thanks for sharing the video. Question. Could the low hot water pressure from the shower also affect the hot water pressure from the vanity sink faucet in the same bathroom?
Thanks for the video. I followed your instructions with my Hansgrohe system and replaced it with a new cartridge, but 2-months later the pressure has gradually worsened again. Any thoughts?
thanks for this before/after presentation. One question--is there any way to tell whether the problem is just the cartridge as opposed to the whole valve fixture itself? The latter is a lot more work and mess.
Nice video sir. Could this issue also occur in the bathroom faucet? Trickle of the hot water side comes out but nothing when we swing the lever to the cold water side. All other faucets/showers dispense water normally in house.
So i have same shower setup and i had no pressure. But it was because of main valve wasn't fully opened. After opening it more, switching to shower water flow started making noise. Will be performing valve replacement anyways. Watched this video 5 times now.
Great video. Fixed the issue but for some reason when the water is turned about halfway between cold and hot, it sounds like it’s struggling to to let water in or something. I heard an odd noise coming from it but only in between hot and cold. All the way either way there’s no noise. I got a Danco cartridge. Could it be just an inferior cartridge compared to the Moen?
With a three knob, there will be a separate valve on the hot side that's probably bad. Check out this video for more details: ua-cam.com/video/zDY2MCQZRic/v-deo.html
had low water pressure in both my showers just started happening out of the clear blue...I called my local water co. they asked if I have a water softener which I do but have never used. They advised me to turn nozzle onto Bypass which I did and water pressure if BACK to normal
Great video. I just installed a new Moen 2510 valve with a new 1222 cartridge. I have extremely low water pressure. If I take the cartridge out and turn the house water back on, the water pressure is normal blowing across the shower. I have contacted Moen and their answer was a new 1222 cartridge. I have now swapped the cartridge 3 times with three different cartridges and no difference. I reversed the cartridge so that H&C are on the bottom. Same issue but now hot water comes out instead of cold. I did recently install a new hot water heater (electric) and pressure tank before replacing the shower valve. Could the pressure tank on the hot water heater be the issue???? All other plumbing in the house works fine.
Both hot and cold are low pressure? Since it's fine everywhere else and you've swapped out the cartridge (a lot), I suppose it could be the valve itself but I'm not sure what the issue would be. Sorry I can't be more help.
For a rental unit built in 1928, where the hot water supply pipe is rusted and often clogged, which reduces the hot water flow rate (pressure), would you recommend (1) changing the pressure-balance mixing valve, (2) only the cartridge, and/or (3) "cold water backflushing" the hotline? I get fluctuating 0.05GPM to 1.5GPM hot water from my shower nipple and tub spout compared to 5.0GPM to 5.5GPM on the cold side. It can take 30 to 100 minutes to fill up a 50 gallon bathtub with hot water and I get thermal too-hot and too-cold shocks from the showerhead. Yikes! Old rusted pipes!
Easiest would be to inspect the cartridge first and see if it has a problem, then I'd inspect inside the valve to see if theres some debris that can easily be removed. Good luck!
I only have low pressure on the hot water side. Having issues after replacing my shower head. So the hose and shower nozel part is new. I replaced the mixer last year so its brand new. Trying to think what i can do. I might try the old shower head back on after work.
Hello I watched the video , it very helpful. Thanks much, I tried myself, but I got different kind of cartridge. I am stuck. Could you help me if send the picture of my current faucet cartridge, pls
Hi, thanks for the great video. I get perfect cold but when turning to the hot it gets very weak. The entire system is brand new and has never been used before. I have the same set up in the other bath w/ no issues. I have a tankless heater (Navien NPE - 240S). I don't see or know about a manifold. Before buying the tool to remove the cartridge, do you have any suggestions? Much appreciated.
Since it's new, you might just be able to use pliers to pull the cartridge out to inspect it without buying the tool. Also, it could be that the hot water line has some type of blockage inside the line... Like debris from wood or even solder if it's copper pipes. Either way, both hot and cold are mixed in the valve so if something is blocked, or if it's the cartridge, I'd look there first. If it's not the valve/cartridge, then the problem has to be between that shower and the hot water tank.
Right after a water main break and repair on my block, my bathroom and kitchen sink hot water stopped coming out, only cold water comes out. But my shower and other bathroom sink are fine. Just my kitchen and main bathroom hot water stopped working at the same time and same day they worked on the main break on my block. So i doubt its the catridge, both faucets are only 6 years old. So is the problem with my hot water heater? But the hot water works for my shower and 2nd bathroom sink??
Brand new shower valve only delivering 2 GPM from the tub spout on full hot setting. Plumbing is all new as the bathroom was gutted and completely new mechanicals installed. The mixing valve is a Moen UT2133EPBN. On full cold from the tub spout I get just over 4 GPM. Spoke with Moen and they say it's not the valve. Any ideas? Thank You!
We had the same problem, replaced the cartridge and still have low hot water pressure in the shower. However, if the vanity sink water is running at the same time, there is good pressure. Any idea on what can cause this?
it's due to the air bubbles in the vertical pipe going to shower head and the sink is usually lower than shower head therefore it (the sink) gets more pressure .what i would do is either run the sink tap on full (Hot line) for a few seconds, you will hear air bubbles coming out once there is no bubbles you can turn it off or you can run both sink and shower ( on full hot lines as well) at the same time for a few second ( it may take longer depending on how far your hot water tank is to both) then turn off the sink tap. i hope that works let us know if it works for anyone. it works for me:)
@@i-tit5474 thank you soooooo much for this, I was just about to order a cartridge and saw your comment...after running both the hot water on the sink and shower the hot water pressure in the shower again is good again, you made my day! :)))))
Would it be the valve if the hot water is low and the cold is full pressure but when it's hot the water also comes out of the faucet for the tub water?
Yeah the cartridge had nothing to do with mine... there is a mixing unit behind the cartridge that got clogged and had to be replaced. I then used the same cartridge.
My issue is - mine is a tub/shower. The shower head is fine but the tub faucet when fully open on hot drops in water pressure. Brand new cartridge and shower a tub. Any ideas?
I have changed the complete shower unit (and therefore also the thermostat cartridge) and yet this exact problem persists (reduced pressure only on hot). Anyone got any thoughts about what else the problem could be?
What would be your course of action if this was happening to a shower that the hot water worked in the morning and now it’s not in the afternoon? Would you suspect a cartridge? Home is 20 years old, only this particular shower is loosing pressure on hot our other one is not. We do have polybutylene pipes.
I would suspect the cartridge, it floats between hot and cold,in the morning you shower relieving the hot expansion, during the day water heats up expands and gets stuck ,sometimes I have seen little or no pressure from both sides.
Would calcium deposits limit one or both hot and cold pressures? My shower upstairs doesn’t have as much cold water pressure but has plenty of hot It could easily be a cartridge issue but I’m gonna clean the deposits either way. I’ll also check the valves you mentioned

What if it’s the sink and shower only in one bathroom? Hot water in kitchen and second bathroom ok. Hot water in the sink and shower in the first bathroom very low. The only thing I can think is a bad solder job protruding into the copper pipe choking the flow.
