I've lived in tis rental house for 7 yrs with low shower pressure. I have even changed shower heads same results until I watches this video, you my friend have solved my 7yr old problem. Thank you a million times over great job.
Back many years ago when I used to rent. My landlord came to my apartment to place those water pressure restrictors to all my faucets and shower. After landlord was gone the water hardly had pressure coming out; the following week I went to the rental office complaining they said "NO worries everything is fine is normal". So, I had no idea what was the landlord had done to my faucets and shower head hose. Thank you for your wonderful advice and video. Blessings.
You are a freaking life saver! I was worried and thought I'd have to call a plumber, but now I can attempt to fix it myself! I'll let you know if it works when I get home tonight! Im always so thankful for people who post videos showing how to fix things in a home because I never had anyone teach me and I'm a new first time home owner. Thank you!
I was just in Georgia visiting my daughter at her new home, she kept complaining that her shower had too low pressure. My wife went out and bought a new shower head it made little difference. I didn't know how to fix it. Next visit, I'm gonna be a super hero! Thanks.
Thank you sooooo much. I did not realize the shower head I installed would make life so miserable but paused this video long enough to trash the water restrictor. Happiness!!!!!!!
Holy shot this actually worked?! Thanks a million! I’ve been using my kids shower for a year & today decided to see if anyone else had this issue in UA-cam 🙏🏾
Thank you!!!! You just solved our issue. Seriously great advice and easy to follow step by step troubleshooting. Our household pressure was fine but just our shower had suddenly decreased pressure. As soon as I took apart the shower head I could see the restrictor had shifted somehow blocking some of the holes. Adjusted it and removed a little rubber blocking piece that wasn’t needed and now our pressure is perfect again. Thank you for saving us from having to pay for a new shower head or call a plumber!
Thank you so ..so much. I was planning to buy a new showerhead which costs 80 bucks then I found this video, just took out the plastic valve in the showerhead and it totally worked. Thanks again Joel.
WOW I thot I was going to have to call a plumber I had such low water pressure but the turning those screws was the simple no money involved trick!THANKS!
I just saw your video i ran to my bathroom i had recently installed a new shower head and i had really low water pressure and i see your video i unscrewed the hose ..and voila tiny restrictor i took it out and got my water pressure back so A BIG THANK YOU for this video
Thank you! I just fixed our shower!!! I only needed to rinse out the shower head. The city had recently done some work and I believe when they turned the water back on, rusty water came and blocked up the shower head. I could see this brown rusty stuff. I simply rinsed it out, put the shower head back on and voila! Thank you again and again!
Joel yes sir there was a tiny O ring on the inside blocking the flow of water. COMPLETELY different shower experience after taking that small O ring out lmao
In my case, the restrictor was on the shower head (not on the hose). Take out that restrictor on the shower is harder than on the hose. But after removing the restrictor from the shower head, the water is blasting now. I already ordered the new shower from the store before watching this video but I will cancel it. Thanks so much for your instruction. The video is very, very helpful.
I found a restrictor in the little thing that holds the handheld hose on my one shower, and in the handheld showerhead that attaches to the hose. On my other shower I have a regular showerhead off a three-way diverter for a handheld showerhead. But the showerhead and handheld showerhead both had the water saving things right inside and it helped a bit but after about a week or so I looked at the diverter and on the diverter input it had a reducer on it as well. I read somewhere even if you buy a set that comes with the diverter, hose, showerhead, and handheld showerhead they will put those reducers on both diverter outputs, the showerhead, and the handheld showerhead. freaking crazy!! I just thought it was because I bought my Pieces individually instead of in a set because I couldn’t find one that had everything I wanted in the showerhead, and the handheld part together. Thats why I ended up with three different reducers because it’s technically three separate parts. Buy then to find out that companies that manufacture it as one piece and sell it as one piece still put three sometimes five different reducers in it. The one I was reading about I think was moen, guy found reducers on the diverter input, both diverter outputs, the main showerhead, the handheld showerhead, and some of them even put it on both ends of the hose. Like they know we’re on to them so they have to start sticking them everywhere lol!!
First, good video. My shower head which is somewhat similar to yours was also running very slow. I did the vinegar overnight soak with no improvement. I know my pressure through the house was good as there were no other issues. What I decide to do before I was to work on the water valve was to work back toward the wall. I removed the line and inspected. No issues there. Then I removed the assembly from the neck protruding from the wall and wouldn't you know it, there was the culprit, a clogged filter. But your video is good, the process of elimination works.
Thank you so much for your video. I just had one of the bathrooms in my house remodeled and I couldn't figure out why the water pressure coming out of the shower head was so weak now. It was the flow restrictor in the new showerhead just like you said. I've always taken really quick showers but that low pressure was slowing me down. I have very thick hair, and I couldn't get the shampoo and conditioner out of it lol. It was driving me nuts and I'm not sure that I was actually saving any water anyway considering it made my showers longer 🙃
Glad you got it figured it out and you bring up a good point. When you shower with a low pressure shower head, showers tend to be longer which takes more water. 🤦🏻♂️
@@joel4210Thank you. I really wish I could remember how everything worked out, lol. Everything seems to be ok now. You're so awesome for responding. Thank you 🥰💐💝🦋
Thank you. Luckily for me the problem was resolved in step 1. However in my hand held shower the restrictor was on the shower head not on the hose. Thanks again.
This worked perfectly increased the pressure greatly and so easy too.. Thank you thank you very much.. Excellent clip, instructions, and guidance plus trouble shooting!!
Had a brand new house and wondered with my shower so weak the water flow i was thinking to report it to my builder but i decided to figure it out 1st by my self, I tried already your 1st and second steps and im excited to do the 3rd step i just watched your video hopping would work on my shower thanks in advance.
nice looking brushed nickel finish with multiple water spray options Our master bathroom has a standing shower with handheld shower head. We started to see some rust spots in the hose not to mention heavy mineral built ups in the shower head because our house has very hard water despite water softener we have. My wife picked out this handheld shower head to replace our old one because she loves the brush nickel finish to match our bathroom decors but this turned out to be very impressive handheld shower head. Although I have replaced shower heads many times in the past, it came with nice instruction on how to replace it for those who's not familiar with it. My only advise would be to use wrench to hold the base spout when removing and installing the holding adapter so you don't accidently twist and damage the base pipe when you over tighten it. I really appreciate that it came with plenty of plumber's tape because you really want to put that on before connecting different parts so that there's no water leak in between threads. This is one of most common mistakes and reasons why there's leak after installing it. Very happy to see that they have provided plumber's tape to remind you to use it! It also had rubber rings/washers in each connector but it also came with extra one, which is nice. They also included a shower drain cover to prevent hair from going in to the drainage, which is a nice bonus. I really love the brush nickel finish, which makes it look elegant and expensive. The 7 different water spray setting is nice to have so you can change it for different purpose. We will most likely leave it on one setting for most of the times but it's nice to have option to change it when needed, such as jet spray for cleaning the shower wall, etc. After replacing the shower head, I didn't see any leak and the stainless steel hose feels sturdy. I also like that I can rotate and tilt the shower head holder and it stays in place. Overall, very happy with this shower head! www.amazon.com/dp/B09MRMFDNP
Very good, I needed this. One question: before and after backing out both hot and cold screws, you took off the cartage cap, but is there a reason to do that? Thanks
What would you suggest for people who live in apartments? Every time they shut off the water for repairs, I end up having to put in a request for maintenance to come and unclog all the faucets because of the debris clogging up everything. The shower has always been awful and takes me longer to take one because of the low water pressure.

Thank-you so much for posting this video, it has helped me so much!!!!!
Gonna try that now. Having same issue. Just moved to a new place. Getting 75-80psi at water spigot from city and at water heater. The sinks seem fine but low water pressure in both showers. Hopefully the fix for yours is the fix for mines as well🤞🏾
Thanx for checking in. It did actually. Uhmm, note to self, maybe turn main water line off first next time😂 Backed off the hot water screw one turn to many and got a splashing like something out of a movie. Actually had to replace the valve unit itself though. And with that, water pressure back on point. And subsequently, fixing the water pressure in that bathroom added pressure to second bathroom. Still removed those water restrictors in the shower nozzle tho. Double whammy. All good here now👍🏾
So glad I landed on your video first for troubleshooting my water pressure. My issue is also with our standup shower. Same shower head as yours. Hot water has lower pressure too. I do hope this fix works for us as well. Thank you for the upload! I will let you know how it goes.
I think it helped but I honestly don't recall. The woman is gone and I only need the one, so i don't use that shower head anymore Thanks for asking though
Well wow. Your vids are very clear. Thank you! Really appreciate the methodical approach to solving the problem! I will def go through the order links, hope it helps.
I have the same problem. I tried to remove the handle with hex key like you showed. I cannot get any turn to remove the handle. I looked the inside of the hole with a mirror and flash light. There is a screw with smooth wall. Do you have any idea for that case? Thank you.
removing the flow restrictor helped me out. I had a new shower nozzle being sent but I canceled the order since removing the flow restrictor fixed it. I'm guessing calcium was building up in there.
Had to remove the water restrictors in every faucet in our new house. The water pressure at our sinks was a joke. Builder wanted to install different faucets throughout at our expense, lol! I obviously said no! After the removal of restrictors, our water pressure is perfect.
I have about 43 psi from the curb. And I can run 2 2nd story showers at the same time. It’s all about reducing flow restrictions on the way to the showers. I have a 1 inch main feeding into a 1 inch stainless pipe manifold. 3 one inch pex outlets from that. One runs to the hot water heater, one directly to the cold water side of my Maniblok. The hot water feeds into the maniblok as well. Every fixture in the house gets it’s own uninterrupted run of 1/2 inch pex, no fittings in any runs for corners. And that’s how I can run 2 2nd story showers Simultaneously on 43 psi curb without any booster. And I’m loosing roughly 11 psi from curb to shower head because of the height the water has to be lifted (25 feet or so) it’s a tall house.
Good solution. I have a weird problem. My two outside faucets have always been good. They both read 75. I use an adaptor that enables me to hook a hose up to my kitchen faucet. The kitchen faucet used to be fine but now the pressure is so low I can't wash my dog. I hooked up the pressure gauge and it reads 75. I hooked a hose up to the faucet then the gauge to the other end. It reads 75 yet when I install a spray nozzle it is very weak when hooked to the front the water will spray 45 feet.....I can't figure it out unless my gauge always reads 75..
@@aaronbaraiya3692 I went from a 5/8 inch hose to a 1/2 inch hose but no difference. The water just seems to trickle. I should test, again, the water pressure of the 1/2 inch..
I just tried this and it worked like a charm. I was only getting a few drips of hot water. I didnt turn the the dial too much for the hot water. I dont want my family to take longer than usual showers. But the water is coming out great. Thanks for the helpful video
Thanks for your video. Tried the shower head restrictor to no avail. Found there are 2 knows in adjacent room but they only control sink. There must be another set under bath - is that assumption correct?
Just an additional food for thought when you have low water pressure it takes you longer to take your shower in my opinion my experience when there's more pressure you can soap yourself up wash your skin wash your hair get in and out and plus it's sort of like a massage
My shower used to have lots of pressure and it has been 6 months since it stopped. Thank you for your video now I have an idea what the problem is. maybe!!😉😁
Melisa Sanchez I don’t think those have set screws/dials to adjust the pressure. If you take the handles off, I doubt you will see one. It should only be the valve stem.
yes, they’re handy. I had to replace a cartridge once and all I had to do was close them without cutting off the water to the entire home. For some reason, the hot water valve wasn’t opened all the way .
Will adjusting the screws under the handle increase the water pressure that comes out of the tub’s water spicket? Our water flow is just a little more than a trickle when we fill up our bathtub and so it takes forever to fill it up. BTW: we live in a very old house in the country that has iron pipes and well water.

I really appreciate that it came with plenty of plumber's tape because you really want to put that on before connecting different parts so that there's no water leak in between threads.

I think it helped but I honestly don't recall. The woman is gone and I only need the one, so i don't use that shower head anymore
Thanks for asking though
Just be careful with the Water Police 😂
@@joel4210 ya thing was like a pressure washer but my friend told me to just turn the water on a little bit and it's okay now lol
Had to remove the water restrictors in every faucet in our new house. The water pressure at our sinks was a joke. Builder wanted to install different faucets throughout at our expense, lol! I obviously said no! After the removal of restrictors, our water pressure is perfect.
Thank you, best troubleshooting!!
You don’t have irrigation water correct
Holy f bro, who cares
Good solution. I have a weird problem. My two outside faucets have always been good. They both read 75. I use an adaptor that enables me to hook a hose up to my kitchen faucet. The kitchen faucet used to be fine but now the pressure is so low I can't wash my dog. I hooked up the pressure gauge and it reads 75. I hooked a hose up to the faucet then the gauge to the other end. It reads 75 yet when I install a spray nozzle it is very weak when hooked to the front the water will spray 45 feet.....I can't figure it out unless my gauge always reads 75..
any update?
@@aaronbaraiya3692 I went from a 5/8 inch hose to a 1/2 inch hose but no difference. The water just seems to trickle. I should test, again, the water pressure of the 1/2 inch..
Thank you so much for this video very informative👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome job, this video was very detailed and informative.
Thank you so much! Game changer!
Not all heroes wear capes ! Thanks for the video I’m gonna give this a try
Thank you thank you thank you
Your video was super helpful. Thank you good sir!
I don’t have the set screws that control the hot and cold water. How do you increase pressure then?
Thank you for this! I started with the restricter removal and boom problem gone! 🤗
AwaliDreamz - glad it helped!
I just tried this and it worked like a charm. I was only getting a few drips of hot water. I didnt turn the the dial too much for the hot water. I dont want my family to take longer than usual showers. But the water is coming out great. Thanks for the helpful video
Glad it worked for you!
Hi, do I have to cut the water supply off before removing handle?
Thanks for the fix...
Do you need to turn the water supply to the house off before trying to adjust the pressure flow rate ?
You the man thank you for this help
Thanks for your video. Tried the shower head restrictor to no avail. Found there are 2 knows in adjacent room but they only control sink.
There must be another set under bath - is that assumption correct?
Thanks for the video. You just gave me an idea about looking at the adjusting valves behind the fixture. 👍
Who would thumbs down this video?
Great question so I’ll give your comment the first “thumbs up”. 😅
Just an additional food for thought when you have low water pressure it takes you longer to take your shower in my opinion my experience when there's more pressure you can soap yourself up wash your skin wash your hair get in and out and plus it's sort of like a massage
I agree! It takes so long to rinse my hair and shave legs oh man
My shower used to have lots of pressure and it has been 6 months since it stopped. Thank you for your video now I have an idea what the problem is. maybe!!😉😁
Melisa Sanchez- Let me know if you figure it! Thank you for watching!
How do I increase the water pressure in a doble hundle shower?
Melisa Sanchez I don’t think those have set screws/dials to adjust the pressure. If you take the handles off, I doubt you will see one. It should only be the valve stem.
If i am not mistaken they are service valves and should be all the way open.
yes, they’re handy. I had to replace a cartridge once and all I had to do was close them without cutting off the water to the entire home. For some reason, the hot water valve wasn’t opened all the way .
This may work on some older models, but the more recent shower supplies do not allow for any form of intervention.
Will adjusting the screws under the handle increase the water pressure that comes out of the tub’s water spicket? Our water flow is just a little more than a trickle when we fill up our bathtub and so it takes forever to fill it up. BTW: we live in a very old house in the country that has iron pipes and well water.
Janet - Does your diverted have adjustment screws? If it does, it might help with your issue.
