Agree, about the shorter shower, since you won't be spending so much time trying to make the trickle of water most shower heads give effectively clean. Shower's with weak pressure take MUCH longer than those that don't, simply because you can rinse more effectively and much faster.
I never knew this existed...I always got a shower in my guest bathroom because my bathroom (I thought) had bad water pressure...what a big difference this made...Thanks!
Update: did it! Game changer--I love it! I cannot wait to go try this! Since my apartments remodeled our bathrooms, I'm so tired of having to take 20 extra minutes of time and water to rinse the shampoo and soap from my hair and body! Yes, I still use the same amount of water--maybe more!
Thank you, thank you! My restrictors were a little tricky to remove so I broke them up and pulled out the pieces! What a life changing fix! I also removed a big rubber washer that had smaller hole and was sitting just inside the neck of the water pipe that the shower head screws into!
I completely agree with the video. I didn't even think about just pulling the restrictor out completely, last year I was able to drill a hole in my restrictor and made a world of difference. My tankless water heater has a flow control that doesn't kick on the heater until it meets a certain flow. My shower head was not allowing it to kick on so drilling the hole not only helped with the water heater being able to kick on and stay on, but it helped drastically with the shower pressure. Do it, you won't regret it.
Same situation for me...had a Navien tankless heater and couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting hot water....removed the flow restrictor and worked like a champ.
Removed the restrictor and the higher pressure nearly blew me out of the shower. I soaked it in white vinegar for 20 minutes, brushed it off, reinserted it and the flow is improved. Thanks!
Don't know if this has been mentioned, but it's important to note that the rubber O-ring in the green restrictor can be removed to improve pressure at the head also without full removing the restrictor. This will likely give you pressure in the middle of fully removing the green piece and not removing anything. Just a thought.
This fix is especially valuable when switching from a showerhead with few holes to one with many. More holes will reduce the water pressure, making the shower feel like rain drops and not a forceful stream. Removing all restrictors is the only thing you can do at the new showerhead to try to recover the same force.

The first one was like mine, but I had trouble getting it out using the method you demonstrated. I decided instead to remove the small black rubber o-ring and see what that did. It opened up all the holes and the shower is so much better. It's a much more conservative approach, but the flow in our shower is now great. My landlord had a new Moen head installed a few months ago. This morning I woke up and decided I've had enough low pressure haha. It was so bad half the water came out of the lower tub faucet. So much for "water conservation." Faster showers equals less water used, and I take 2 minute showers. With more pressure that will be knocked down to 1 minute. Thanks for the video! Made my life better!
Bro, thank you so much. You're a life saver, seriously. I would go crazy if I had to deal with the shower pressure I had. Took me twice as long to clean myself than normal and wasn't refreshing at all. I had to stand directly under the shower head and take forever to get shampoo out of my hair etc lol. Just moved to a new place. This increased my shower pressure by like 75% LOL
This is some of the best knowledge I’ve received from youtube. Mine was a little more difficult then in the video but I just took a small screw and screwed it into the restrictor and grab it with pliers. It’s literally the difference of night and day thank you
If your showerhead changed to lower pressure on its own, it was probably caused by sediment or debris. By removing the restrictor, you accomplished two things - you removed the accumulation AND you opened the interface to handle the full flow from your inlet pipe. Good job!
We recently had to switch our removable shower head and so we purchased a really nice Delta removable shower head system and were so disappointed in the water pressure of it u til I watch your video. Thank you so much for sharing, very easy to find and remove the water restricter and wow! What a difference. Like night and day. Thank you again so much. Plan on telling everyone. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I’ve been complaining to my husband about the low shower pressure. I watched this video and removed the restricter and my shower pressure is 100% improved. Thank you! Thank you!
Omgsh yes I just did this on a Kohler shower head that me and my husband just purchased for our new apartment and wow what a difference! Such an easy fix.
I live in the UK and my shower head does not have a detachable restrictor. However, the thread that holds the hose to it has a hole moulded into the threads housing so by making the hole bigger you are increasing the water flow. Thank you for this.
I saved my old shower heads and the ones I had a friend of mine took a drill to the other ones, my friends want to take showers at my house lol, I love this video
So, how does removing a “Flow Restrictor” increase water pressure(psi)? I can understand that by removing the flow restrictor it will increase the water volume being used, but if you have 70psi in the water main that serves the property, than the maximum amount of psi you can get is 70psi.
Have you ever folded a water hose to restrict the flow? The water pressure is the same, but you are making the hose inner flow diameter smaller. Same concept.
@@davidb7180 So, are we in agreement that a Flow Restrictor has no effect on water pressure just water volume? I have came across many people who believe that if they have a small water flow they think that they have low water pressure. Typically these people have 20+year old galvanized pipes and/or clogged aerators.
Fluid dynamics. You are thinking in terms of static pressure. After encountering an obstacle upstream, the downstream pressure will always be less: see 'Bernoulli's Equation'
The restrictor is a pressure drop. so if you have 50psi at the pipe, after the restrictor you may only have 20 or 30psi at the nozzles. The pressure at the nozzle is what create the velocity that you feel. If you have 70psi and lots of flow capacity, then the restrictor drops you to 40 or 50 psi. Therefore homes with lots of water pressure and flow may not need this trick.
Absolutely life changing. 5 minutes is an over statement on my end. Removal had to have increased the pressure more than twice over. Thank you thank you thank you.
I had an anemic flow at my last rental, when I removed the shower head the restrictor was a metal disc with a hole in the middle, I used a wine corkscrew and pulled it right out.
For anyone who can't remove the restrictor, here's a tip. My restrictor had a metal ring above it that prevented it from coming out. If you have the same problem all you need to do is drill a hole through the plastic center and tear it out piece by piece with needle nose pliers.
just purchased a new shower head for $65 and water pressure was terrible... I have very high water pressure in my house and I couldn't understand why this shower head wasn't putting out much ..I did exactly what he said but I used a drill bit and WOW!! and no change in the water bill!! THANKS ALOT !!!
Thanks for showing us had no idea just bought 2 shower heads and they sucked little water flow. In fact one shower head was the exact same one you had. The only weird thing is both of the shower heads I had were different did not have anything to pull on. So I used a drill to make a huge hole in the plastic worked the same thank you. I think they are changing it to make it harder to remove. Then again I live in California.
One of mine was in there for 6 years, when i finally removed it the difference is so nice. Life is too short for a crappy shower and you end being in there for less time.
Thank you for this video. We have a Delta showerhead and this video was spot on and allowed me to get normal water pressure back in less than 5 minutes.
The last two shower heads I bought they were very difficult to remove the restrictors even with needle nose and other tools. But I practically had to destroy the restrictors. I think they're making it harder and harder for consumers to remove them.
I went and dug up my old (brand new) shower head that dribbled water and tried this. Little thing popped right out, I was amazed BUT THEN there was a half moon of plastic blocking the way too! What the heck! It's like they know people now know the secret and are trying everything to keep us from having nice showers. Of course I drilled right thru it like butter and now it feels like a waterfall. Thanks Silver Cymbal!
Please note that many shower valves (controls for the shower) also have flow restrictors, so removing the one at the head doesn't always give you full pressure. I seem to recall Speakman still sells some mixing valves that don't have restrictors built in, but most other manufacturers do.
If you are on a well system with lower pressure or limited water in the well, you can remove the restrictor and drill the hole out slightly larger to improve the flow slightly
@@SilverCymbal Honestly my friend it was like night and day. It was like having a mild garden hose turned into a 3000 PSI pressure washer. Not that radical but you get my description...lol! As a husband who loves the tinker this is the stuff that just makes my day!!!

I must say I didn’t have the needle nose pliers but got that little sucker removed the hard way and now my shower pressure is amazing. Thank you sir ! Update: 10 mins into a high pressured shower and I was sentenced to 30 years for removing the flow restricter. Remove at your own risk.
I removed the restrictor in my shower head and actually had to go and buy one of those valves that lets you shut off or reduce the flow some. With the restrictor it was pretty weak but without the restrictor it was like standing under a waterfall which is nice sometimes but just overkill most times. With the valve I could fine-tune it to be just right.
House sitting my friend's house... her pressure sucked and I fixed it in less than 3 min. I am sure she'll love it when she gets back! The needle nose is great idea!

Nice job! Thanks. I heard somewhere, they designed a new shower head with wi-fi to send signals back to the authority if you remove it. Next door neighbor removed it, and it got him in so much trouble, the county wanted to show the town people just how dangerous with the modified shower head is they used it to wash a 6 tons elephant, it pushed the damn thing off of the washing bay, at first turn on. Took me twice as long to clean myself than normal and wasn't refreshing at all. I had to stand directly under the shower head and take forever to get shampoo out of my hair etc lol. Just moved to a new place. This increased my shower pressure by like 75% LOL
I was told by a Lowes specialist on how to do this. I couldn't be happier. It really works

Those instructions are only for the stores selling them. Once you buy the mattress you can remove the tags.

This is some of the best knowledge I’ve received from youtube. Mine was a little more difficult then in the video but I just took a small screw and screwed it into the restrictor and grab it with pliers. It’s literally the difference of night and day thank you
"Gently pry until the piece pops out"...goes directly into drain.
Just like your diamond ring
😹
LMAO me
Gotta get my son-in-law.
Thank you! I just did it to my handheld shower wand. It did the trick ...nice strong pressure!
My shower head started flowing like crap out of nowhere, took this off and flows so well now. Thanks a lot 💪
Thank you! Thank you!
Shame on your husband if you fixed it. I bet he felt embarrassed that u sorted something he couldn't. Would make him feel less a man lol
Omgsh yes I just did this on a Kohler shower head that me and my husband just purchased for our new apartment and wow what a difference! Such an easy fix.
Thank you Sir! I was ready to buy another shower head just did my shower and bathroom sink in five minutes works great now!!👊🏽👊🏽
So glad it helped! A small pleasure in life, enjoy it!
@@SilverCymbal WHILE YOU STILL CAN..............THEY'RE RACKIN' THEIR BRAINS THINKING OF WAYS TO CONTROL YOUR LIFE MORE AND MORE
@@yardlimit8695 Very true!
On some older ones that was the only way to do it. At least now things are a little easier. What a difference taking a shower now!
DJR. It gets a little crowded in the shower when all the hot chicks come over to shower at the same time every day.
I just removed the small rubber ring on the restrictor, and it made a big difference. I guess it keeps the holes under it closed to restrict the flow.
“Reduce flow to have a bad experience” lol, so true!
Thank you so much for your distinctive knowledge… It really helped and my water pressure is excitingly resolved 😎
Larger diameter = larger volume, lower pressure. Smaller diameter= less volume, higher pressure
Finally got around to doing this. Instant difference in the water pressure. Looking forward to taking less time consuming showers
For anyone who can't remove the restrictor, here's a tip. My restrictor had a metal ring above it that prevented it from coming out. If you have the same problem all you need to do is drill a hole through the plastic center and tear it out piece by piece with needle nose pliers.
Did not know this, but just removed mine and wow what a huge difference... Thank you
Great video. Very informative. I removed mine years ago.
just purchased a new shower head for $65 and water pressure was terrible...
Nothing a drill bit wont fix.
Aaaaaand this video saved my life! This is exactly!!! What I needed. Verified! It doubled my pressure
"This is legal"
As if that matters. My house, my water bill, my rules.
Just did this in 5 minutes! Works great! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Huge difference in water flow 🚿 I’m going to do this to my new Moen shower head! Thank you for the simple steps to follow 🙏
Damn dude thank you. I have a wife with a big ol' head a hair and this just gave me 5 stars in the husband department. Took me
Glad it helped! Makes a huge difference
@@SilverCymbal Honestly my friend it was like night and day. It was like having a mild garden hose turned into a 3000 PSI pressure washer. Not that radical but you get my description...lol! As a husband who loves the tinker this is the stuff that just makes my day!!!
3 minutes? Man I should have had a beer break too. Next time when I do the other bathroom.
My shower pressure was horrible I thought it was maybe something with the water meter, saw this video, followed the steps, soon as I turned the shower back on I said oh shit wit a big ol smile
Have you ever been pulled over by a shower head cop ?
They office with the mattress label-cops.
no not yet but i am sure they are out there just waiting to jail us and do a very worthwhile service for all the rest of us.............think about it,,,,,,,if they made it 1 gallon per minute you would stay in the shower till you removed all the soap, even if it took 25 minutes.............so where do these idiot lawmakers make any sense....so if you needed 25 gallons instead of full pressure for 6 minutes or so [just an example] you would use less water ,,,,,,,,,,it's all FEEL GOOD STUPIDITY,,,,,,,,,,,,one thing these dopes aren't smart enough to realize is this,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FOR EVERY GAIN THERE IS A LOSS..........a drop in pressure or quantity = a LONGER SHOWER. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,NET EFFECT ,,,,,,,,,,,NO GAIN,,,,,,,,,,,,,THE WATER YOU NEED IS THE WATER YOU'LL USE.............ROMOVE THE RESTRICTOR
Got a court date
Nice!
House sitting my friend's house... her pressure sucked and I fixed it in less than 3 min. I am sure she'll love it when she gets back! The needle nose is great idea!
Wow, best house sitter on the planet. Doing DIY and minding the place too! They are lucky. Thanks for the kind words.
THIS CHANGED MY LIFE. Holy crap what a difference! I literally made a Facebook post to tell all my friends about this!
People will think you are nuts like me, UNTIL you actually try it. Now you see why I was so excited about this. Very nice experience! Thanks for sharing the link too.
better be careful facebook might cancel you for thinking for yourself....

Great video. The point about using less water because water flow is greater is true. My wife said it took twice as long to rinse her hair with the water restricted. I installed a shut off valve between the outlet pipe and shower head so I can turn turn down or turn off the water as needed. Anything to improve the the “water saving” toilet?? What good is it if you have to flush twice?? Thanks!!!
Great video! Have been removing them for years and usually find 50% more pressure when removed.
Great to hear thank you
Omg. Had no idea about this. Just changed all my shower heads. I feel like I’ve been cheated on for years. Thank you
Love your videos. Straight and to the point! No time waisted.
Amazing. All along I thought the little black o-ring was the flow restrictor. I just did this modification to my Speakman showerhead and holy crap, the pressure is incredible. Thanks!
Worked like a charm. Thank you very much. My mum is very happy.
Well done!
@@SilverCymbal It also saved me from getting an ass whupping lol
Some of them require just a large drill bit...you can do this people COME ON! YOU GOT THIS!
I absolutely hate low water pressure in the shower. Thanks for the info.
It makes such a nice difference
That is the exact same shower head i have. I will be removing that restrictor tomorrow. Thank you sir.
Expect MIB to come knocking on your door. This is right up there with revealing what's going on in Area 51.
This video saved me from buying a new shower 🚿 head , It works perfectly after I removed the flow restrictor! Thank you 🙏🏾
I want to do this to my kitchen sink. It takes 15 seconds to fill a 16 oz bottle. When I remove the sink head, the hose can release 16oz in 5 seconds.
Makes a big difference, and surprise government. You used the same amount of water! You just got your life back!
Just wanted to say, I did this to my shower head awhile ago, I have 4 daughters, I thought, why did I do this, my water bill is going to be insane… but you were right, we all take faster showers because it doesn’t take forever to rinse out the shampoo and conditioner!! Win, win!
Holy crap! I just followed your instructions and my shower water pressure went from "sad and pathetic" to "elephant grade". Thank you!
Glad it helped! Until you do it, you really can't believe the difference. Kramer approves!
Wow I can actually feel the water hitting my back now! You are my hero.
I didn't even know this was a thing. Going to have to try it.
After your first shower without it let me know what you think. it is really night and day. A small pleasure in life that is worth it.
Nice job!
Even local fire trucks too afraid to test it.
You are legit one of my favs! I'm always so impressed with how useful and unique your videos are. Also how straight to the point they are!
Thank you so much I really appreciate it
