You're welcome! I've been doing this so many years now it's just second nature to me at this point. Very easy to do! Good luck with yours. It's not hard.
Thanks Dj you made it look very simple for me, just bought my house a year ago i paid the local pool company $250.00 just to come out and close the pool for me, but after watch this video you explained and showed how simple it is too do it myself step by step ..... thanks again D.j !!!!!!
You're welcome! I just closed my pool yesterday. Super easy to do. I still do it exactly how I explained in this video. You can do it. It's really not hard. Good luck!
Tremendously helpful information! Especially for us northeast Oklahoma pool owners 👍 I have used the pool pillows before, but they don't last and can be pricey. I have, however, had good luck with using oversized swim rings, which are less expensive and can sometimes be found at yard sales. My intention is to keep the cover safely elevated so any rain water or debris can roll off. Thank you so much for sharing this! Stay Blessed 🙏😊
Watching this in September 2023. My new pool (replacement) was just completed. It’s an 18ft. round like the previous and my setup is very similar to yours. I have also used mesh covers because the leaves, buds and seeds are just crazy in the spring and the mesh cover just lets the water drain away as you remove it. The only difference with the new pool is that I had pvc hoses installed with quick connects instead of screw on clamps. Don’t know if I’ll get a chance to get in this pool before closing, but putting everything away for winter should be easy.
Hey Donald! Not really switching it up. This is still gonna continue to be my DJ channel. Just published this video for all my friends who are new pool owners and have questions on closing them.
I wish this video was around when I first got my pool. It would have saved me so much time and aggravation dealing with solid covers and sub pumping water. Glad it helped you. Be sure to watch my opening pool video too when you're ready to open your pool.
Hi Vince. I'm Flo. Nice to meet you. I love your method and will definity use it. I'm a new pool owner. Waiting for it to come in from amazone. It should be here on Fri. My question is what will I need. It comes with ladder, pump, and cover. Please help me. Thank you in advance
Congratulations on your pool purchase! This is my 8th year owning my pool and I don't regret it at all. All you need is the items described in my video. Chlorine, Baking Soda, Borax and Muriatic Acid. You'll also need some water testing strips. All of that is linked in the description. You may want to get a manual vacuum, a leaf bagger, a pool pole and a pool hose to attach to the vacuum. Some 3 inch chlorine tabs and a floater too. Good luck!
Right below the skimmer and return jet. I just let the water drain out until no more water comes out lol. I don't measure anything. Just let it drain until it stops.
Thank you for your video; just bought our home with a similar pool; had NO IDEA what to do. Lol. Thankfully the previous owner left everything I needed, Thank The Creator and You for your videos!
Important question * after unscrewing the return jet and removing it, do you plug it with with another plug. I have that plug piece here from the prior owner or do you leave it open ? I Live in a winter snow climate.
I'm really looking forward to your pool opening video. I feel the same way about opening the pool in April or May and keeping it clean, but not being able to use it until June. I'm curious how bad it will be in June and how long it takes to get it clean. There should be more video's like this. 👍
Thank you!!! Yes, please stay tuned for that video in June. I know the water will be green, but there will be no leaves or debris in it. I know my pool. 8 gallons of chlorine in it at opening and it will be crystal clear blue in less than 3 days.
You're absolutely correct lol. Ignore that part. 😁 I remember learning that from the pool store my first year closing. So glad I ditched them 4 years ago.
Mine just pop right out as you saw me demonstrate in the video. Just pull sideways then straight out. This year I actually did it without even getting in the pool.
After removing the motor do you cover the sand tank or store away? Mine has alot of sand and too heavy to move. Live in Minn where we get lots of snow and ice.
No, I leave the sand filter (tank) outside. I don't even cover it. Mine has 175 lbs of sand in it. I get a ton of snow and ice here too, believe it or not. During the winter months, my pool is usually frozen solid with snow on top of it in sub zero temperatures. My sand filter has remained outside for 7 years so far with absolutely no issues whatsoever.
I have my lines under ground from pool to garage....where my heater and Sand Filter are. Cant find a vid on that setup. I know I have to blow air thru my lines to push any water out but would like to watch a video real quick before I go out and do it lol.
I capped it the first 3 years of owning my pool because I was following the advice of my pool store at that time. I leave it open now for the last 5 years. No issues whatsoever.
As a new pool owner this vid is very helpful. Thanks for all the detail.
So glad you found it helpful!
Bro , you saved me $300 this year! Didn’t realize how easy it was 😂 Thanks for the great advise and step by step explanation.
You're welcome! 😊
Thank you for the very detailed explanations and demonstration!
You're welcome! Glad you appreciate it. I hope it helps you.
I'm so happy that you talked about leaving your stairs in the pool. You just made my hubby a very happy man. LOL
Glad to hear it! Yep, I just closed my pool last week and my stairs are still in there. Going on 8 years now with zero issues.
New pool owner here, and the thought of closing my pool has been overwhelming. Thank you for all the detail and step by step process.
You're welcome! I've been doing this so many years now it's just second nature to me at this point. Very easy to do! Good luck with yours. It's not hard.

This was the best above ground closing video. The only difference for mine is that I have a gas heater in the mix. But this got me 90% of the way
So glad to hear you enjoyed the video. This method has worked extremely well for me for years. I'll be doing it again in 2 weeks.
I used your video to open our pool and using your video to close. Your video's on both, are pretty awesome!! Thanks you were a pool saver😊👍
That's great to hear! Yep, I do it this way every year with zero problems. I'll be closing my crystal clear blue pool this Thursday.
I LOVE IT SO MUCH! PRAISE THE MOST HIGH! THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Very detailed and informative. Thank you for posting this video.

I Live in a winter snow climate.
I leave it open so that water can drain through it if the water level gets too high. And actually this year I didn't even remove it at all.
What products do you use for winterizing? I have an 18ft above ground Sand filter pool.
It's all explained in the first part of this video. ua-cam.com/video/hUu35AiWl10/v-deo.html&t

Good afternoon gentleman, I have a filter equal to yours. How much sand do you add to yours? Thank you for your advice, they are very useful
The label on your filter tells you exactly how much sand your filter requires. Mines requires 175 lbs.
One quick question regarding the pump..why pull that drain plug if you can just disconnect and turn it upside down to empty the water?
You're absolutely correct lol. Ignore that part. 😁 I remember learning that from the pool store my first year closing. So glad I ditched them 4 years ago.
@DJ2Legit007 perfect..thanks. was worried I missed something. Great video BTW. Helped me save $350..what the pool guys charged me last fall lol
Great video, thank you!
thank you
You're welcome!
You removed the return jet but are you not going install a stopper? Or are you going to leave it open so the extra water can drain all winter
I leave it open now for extra water to drain out during the winter. I used to plug it, but not anymore.
Thanks
How do you get those hand rails off ?
Mine just pop right out as you saw me demonstrate in the video. Just pull sideways then straight out. This year I actually did it without even getting in the pool.
do you worry about freeze here in ky we do
Nope. My pool freezes into one big ice cube every winter. Never ever had a problem.
Are you in a cold climate? Do you get freezing temps?
It's gets so cold here. Below zero temperatures. My pool becomes a big frozen ice cube with snow piled on top for weeks at a time.
Can I do this even if I don’t have a sand filter
Yes you can.
Great video ❤ great video ❤
