This is a great tutorial. I watch this every fall just before closing my pool. Sometimes twice. Probably overkill, but this is a great resource to make sure you've got everything ready to go.
I saw the Swim University video first and left more confused than before I watched it. I appreciated you showing each step as you talked through each one and explaining why you were doing it. Thank you!
Jim....Some say plugging the skimmer will lead to cracking in the freezing months. I don't have pvc piping so should I can leave my skimmer open to let water drain out. But that will eventually drain the pool more and stretch the cover. What do you think about this?
@@DIYJIM hey jim , once you backwash the pump , before you disconnect it from the pool *DO YOU DRAIN IT COMPLETELY with the pump handle or does the plug at the base do that* empty the filter water ??

This is THE best pool winterizing video that I've seen so far (and I've watch a lot!)! This is our first year winterizing our pool and you answered every question that we've had. Thank you SO much. My husband and I very much appreciate your wisdom and tips. Oh, and we're from Michigan.
Texas guy here. We just had a pool installed and are total newbies. This was the best tutorial video I've seen on winterization, and I'm now confident in how to close ours down for the winter. Thank you sir for the information!
First time winterizing a pool and this video was sooooo helpful! Love the step by step explanation and detail. You show each step while other videos will say a step but dont show it and not being familiar with the names of everything, I wouldn't understand. I'm so grateful for this video and appreciated the advice of not having too many beers, lol. God bless!
Great job on this video. This is the first year I've had a pool and will be my first time winterizing a pool. This will give me the confidence I need to get it done right. From Central Iowa. You sir I can relate! Thank you!
I'm a first time pool(and home)owner and have no clue as to what I'm doing! You helped me open it in the spring and now I'm planning ahead to winterize it. Thank you so much for the thorough explanation. Amazon links are very helpful, too! God bless you and your family from Schuylkill County, PA ☺️
First time pool owner and was going to hire someone to close it up, was shocked by the quote of over a 1000. This helped me out a ton to get it done the right way.
This is one of the very best tutorials I've seen for an above ground pool closing. Well done! The only thing I do differently is that I do not drain the water below the lowest pool opening. Instead, I seal my skimmer with a winter cap. The main reason why I do not drain the water is to prevent the pool cover form stretching when it rains. The lower the pool water, the more the cover is tended to stretch out.
@@jodavis2243 No, I live in NY, so the climate gets pretty cold. I was informed as long as I use a skimmer block, the water does not have to be drained below the lowest opening on the pool. Also, a skimmer is relatively inexpensive. If it does crack (Which it never did in over 20 years) it can be replaced inexpensively. But to clarify, I do take out the eyeball and screw in the plug to stop the water from coming out.
I'm about to close out my AGP for the very first time. I'm in Ohio and and slightly nervous in closing the pool right. I just simply wanted to say thank you. The BEST winterizing video I have seen thus far. I appreciate it. Less anxiety in closing it now. Thank you!

Thank you for the informative video. I learned a lot except I have a deck all the way around my pool and I am trying to figure out how to attach the winter cover. I really don't want to use water bags. Any ideas? I don't think a cable will work for me since there isn't enough space between the deck and the pool. Great job on instructions and demonstration for winterizing above ground pool. My 26 yr old daughter and I are going to tackle this job this weekend. I also reside in PA… Bradford County…North East PA. This will be the first time I’ve closed a pool since 2001 and the first time ever on this new pool I was able to finally afford , and the first time that it’s mainly gonna just be me doing the closing, my daughter will mainly just help with the cover, while here on vacation from Florida.

We live in Pleasantville, Pa . It's like in-between Erie and Pittsburgh,Pa. Once again thank you much on your steps of closing the pool! Praying we do it right!❤️🙏❤️
Your video was extremely thorough! I wish I had found this video the first year we had our pool as I had to view a few videos to discover EACH required step for an above ground pool. Thank you! God bless.
Nice video. Rarely do I actually see things that impress or inform me as much as your video did... The edge shrink wrap and the leaf screen ideas are priceless. I just moved from a house with an inground pool, to a house with an above ground pool. I have trees surrounding my new pool, so the mesh will prove to be a necessity. THANKS!!
I know I’m a little late but I just closed the pool down with confidence thanks to you Jim, thank you sir a hundred times also I live in southern Virginia
Excellent video, I'm in Maryland...just purchased home with similar salt water pool and we are preparing to close for winter for the first time. Excellent pace, reminders and overall presentation.
Thanks for posting this! I appreciate the step-by-step instructions and being able to watch someone who knows what he's doing. I'm about to close up my pool in NW Indiana.
Great ideo and tips about how to close your pool and equipment away for the winter! I had purchased a house close to a year ago and came with an above ground pool with a deck. Your video was just what I needed to get my pool ready for the winter! I’ve seen other videos, but none that had a deck around the pool with a access panel for the skimmer like yours. I’m in Staten Island, NY. Thanks again for sharing this video!

This first-time pool owner in MD thanks you for this. I'm closing down my pool now--I've got the chemicals in, the water drained below the skimmer and inlet, plug on inlet, and pump and filter disconnected. All that's left is to put the tarp and net on. And I'm definitely getting that wrap.
Thank you so much ! This is my first time winterizing my pool ! I've had a few tips here and there on how to close my pool ! Nothing seemed to have helped me ! Until I watched your video ! I am closing my pool today ! I've added my winterizing chemicals , now I'm running my pump for about 8 hours ! Tomorrow I'll finish my closing ! Thanks again for sharing your video !!!🙂

Thank you so much for this informative video! we just put our pool up and I've been researching and this has been the best video I have yet to find and we live in Michigan where the winners are pretty harsh thank you again.
Thanks! I bought a summer waves pool to see what I think of having a pool but hate taking it down every winter here in Canada. Now considering a steel walled pool that I can leave setup and put a deck in. This video gave me a very good idea of what I'd be looking at every winter. Now I'm off to see your opening video.
If you are handy maybe buy a used pool. I have $1000 into my pool it was used. I bought a new liner because you can not use the old liner. I also bought a two speed pump. Saved me $5000-$8000
@@DIYJIM You did great and that was my first idea buy used. Unfortunately there is little or nothing available in our area. I'm going to keep looking though. Even a simple replacement for my Summer Waves 14" is about 5K.
We just got our pool a month ago so until now I had know idea how I to winterize it. Thank you for showing me! I was feeling very overwhelmed until your video. My family is in NW OH.
Hey, helpful video. I used this video last year and when I uncovered for spring, blue water. Last year I jumped into similar water temps as you boy did and thought I was going hyperventilate. Thanks for the video, from central Kentucky
Ahoy from sunny Saskatchewan, I followed a lot of your great advice last year, being a first time pool shutdown, worked a treat. Saved this and watched it again just prior to shutdown. I push the water via a pump to the inside drain (bylaws), and the pump comes inside due to -40 weather we have. And no need to ice balloon, it’s all ice at -40 lol 😆 one block! Thanks 🙏

Awesome glad I could help, hope everything goes good
Thanks for the how to! This will be my first year closing my pool. This helped alot to visualize what needs to be done. From VA.

Hi really loved the way you showed to close the pool! Tell your son he did a good canonball!😄 My husband has passed and was the one to get the closing of the pool going! So I wasn't sure of all the steps! You did such a wonderful way of explaining the steps! My son-in-law, daughter and niece are going to help me close the pool, I had them watch you too! We live in Pleasantville, Pa . It's like in-between Erie and Pittsburgh,Pa.
Once again thank you much on your steps of closing the pool!
Praying we do it right!❤️🙏❤️
Glad I could help thanks for watching
Your video was extremely thorough! I wish I had found this video the first year we had our pool as I had to view a few videos to discover EACH required step for an above ground pool. Thank you! God bless.
Glad I could help
Inheriting a 17'x30' above ground pool in MN thank you for the videos! trying to take in as much as I can about this pool and taking care of it.
Thanks for watching, hope my pool videos help you.
THANKS!!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
I know I’m a little late but I just closed the pool down with confidence thanks to you Jim, thank you sir a hundred times also I live in southern Virginia
Welcome thanks for watching
Excellent video, I'm in Maryland...just purchased home with similar salt water pool and we are preparing to close for winter for the first time. Excellent pace, reminders and overall presentation.

Jim, thank you so much! Your video helps me to winterize my 16' x 19' ASP by myself w/o anybody's help. Natalia, NJ
Glad I could help
Great ideo and tips about how to close your pool and equipment away for the winter! I had purchased a house close to a year ago and came with an above ground pool with a deck. Your video was just what I needed to get my pool ready for the winter! I’ve seen other videos, but none that had a deck around the pool with a access panel for the skimmer like yours. I’m in Staten Island, NY. Thanks again for sharing this video!
Your welcome thanks for watching
Hey ! Great video ! I am from Canada and I am closing my pool for the first time this year! Best video that I’ve found ! Easy to follow ! I appreciate it :) I’m from A province called Nova Scotia ! Thanks again !

Thanks for such a helpful step by step video. I've actually watched it several times and saved it on my playlist to use as a reference. My setup is very similar to yours and your guided video is just what I was looking for. I live in Dallas, Texas btw! Very few winter months but enough to take a break from jumping in 😁
You're very welcome!
Glad I could help
This was very helpful for closing our pool the first year. Watched the video on Friday and closed it this weekend. Thank you from Wisconsin.
Glad I could help, thanks for watching
Thank you so much ! This is my first time winterizing my pool ! I've had a few tips here and there on how to close my pool ! Nothing seemed to have helped me ! Until I watched your video ! I am closing my pool today ! I've added my winterizing chemicals , now I'm running my pump for about 8 hours ! Tomorrow I'll finish my closing ! Thanks again for sharing your video !!!🙂

Glad I could help thanks for watching
Piper is so cute!
Wish I had your energy!
I'm from IL.
Thanks for the video!
@@Ionizap just make sure the sides are in good shape. I would recommend having 2 people to help tear down. The one I bought I took it down myself.
Thanks for the info. New pool person and of course we got no instructions on how to do this. Much appreciate the info
You bet!
Helpful video for me (first time pool owner) since I have nearly the exact same setup and brand of equipment. Greetings from NC.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. Great instructional video. New pool owner. We're from Cincinnati.

We just got our pool a month ago so until now I had know idea how I to winterize it. Thank you for showing me! I was feeling very overwhelmed until your video. My family is in NW OH.

Awesome glad I helped you
Hey, helpful video.
I used this video last year and when I uncovered for spring, blue water.
Last year I jumped into similar water temps as you boy did and thought I was going hyperventilate.
Thanks for the video, from central Kentucky
Glad I could help thanks for watching
I'm in northeastern pa, thanks for posting all these informative videos I really appreciate it, I also watched your Mini split series .
Thanks for watching my videos
Upper Michigan - lots of snow and cold! Thanks for the video - very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks 🙏
Holy smokes that’s cold. Thanks for watching my videos
