Janika Kauppinen me, i love rice!!!😂
meeee...i LOVE white riceee
I eat a cup of white rice every day and my tummy is flatter and more happy. Brown rice takes longer to cook, hurts my tummy, and very expensive. Thanks for the video. Now I know I'm not alone in my preference for white rice.
Alicia B same minus the stomach pain.
I'm so happy to hear! Before watching this I gave up on white rice and used to love eating it, all because I thought brown rice was "better"
Go for millet for good health
For me it is simply the texture of brown rice vs white. I love white rice!
at winco it pretty cheap
As an Asian, white rice is the one thing I will never ever give up 😂😂
Me too
@@muhammadyousaf-ew9ko me too
Me toooo.
@El Jay I'm Japanese and we've been eating rice at least over 2000 years ago. Lol :).
@El Jay You got me! I got interested in our history of rice and yes we started to consume 'white' rice back in 1600s (only high class people was able to eat them at the beginning). However, they had been always polished rice and there were different name for it not just "brown rice".
If my daily diet doesn't include rice then i haven't eaten anything 😂
amzoline k me tooooo 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Me as well. It makes me feel full
Same🤣
@@vinsnt2766 rice is bae,absolutely 😂
so true the first thing i eat in the morning is rice
I lost 30 lbs in 6 month and kept it off without diet. I had a japanese guest in my house for 4 months that taught me how to make Japanese food. I ate rice in the small japanese rice bowl 3 times a day!! with chicken, fish, veggies.. It satisfied my carbs cravings and I didn't care for bread anymore. Plus, regardless nutrition, Rice digest better than bread. Eating and losing weight with no diet made me really curious about nutrition so I started to juicing once a day. Not only I didn't gain the weight back, I haven't been sick for over 4 years. It's Amazing.
Epic juicing and Healthy living
The Japanese are among the top 15 healthiest people on Earth.
Actually, the Japanese, the Singaporeans, the Israelis, and the Australians are the ONLY people outside of the continent of Europe that makes the top 15 list!
Cool!
Diet is a funny word, or believe diet simply means your eating habits, so if you started eating Japanese food, that would definitely be changing your diet, so you did "diet", you changed your eating habits.
Wish i could afford chicken fish and veggies everyday.
@@wadedewell Use beans and other legumes (or tofu) and buy veggies in season or check out the frozen section of your groceries. Beans are roughly around 2usd/kg in my area and I only consume half of that per week plus 550g of calcium set tofu(for cheap source of protein and calcium). Just soak beans in lots of water with a teaspoon of baking soda overnight, rinse thoroughly and boil it for an hour(depends on the kind of legume of course). You can portion it and freeze(lasts for months in the freezer) I usually have that with a good variety fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, veggies, cruciferous veggies, green leafy veggies, and just the most essential supplements, and I only spend around 10-20usd/week. Very cheap.
Check out the links below for some recommendation of food you should include in your everyday meals as they really give you the best bang for your buck as they are most nutrient dense, and contains the most amount of micro/macronutrients and are usually the cheapest, most readily available food anywhere.

She is sticking with WHITE rice compared to Brown rice.
Thank you now I don’t have to feel guilty eating my white rice 🍚
I'm sticking up for the rice too! This...scientist tried to say it was bad for you. I said "say WHAT?!" IVE BEEN EATING THAT SHIT FOR YEARS! if it's on the shelf..should it ..or should it not be good to eat..? I know some foods if eaten to much for too long. Fatty foods so on..but rice??
Honestly when I went on my weight loss journey all I ate was white rice with baked chicken, white rice with vegetables, white rice with beef, white rice with fish.... I loss so much weight and gained muscle. But also i quit sweets amd soda. Got a membership at planet fitness. And try to stay away for grease and fastfood. Loss over 60 lbs and loving itn I'm at my ideas weight. White jasmine rice is my side for every dinner meal. Oh and you are very pretty😍😍😍
Congrats !
How long did it take you to lose the weight?
You most likely lost weight because you quit sugary and processed food, not because of the rice
@@LauraRodriguez-nq1pb --Rice is filling. And because it's filling you feel full longer. So in that way it does assist with weight loss.
Oh boy!!
White jasmine rice is not White rice totally different.
White jasmine rice is not processed.
White rice is processed.
The Japanese love white rice, Im living here for almost 30 years, but they are very healthy they live longer compare to the other country, my husband always eating white rice but he is thin and very healthy!

White rice has been a staple part of my diet for as long as I can remember. Through my weight loss journey, I did not notice any ill effects to my diet. In fact, I have lost over 18 pounds and still consume white rice as part of my diet.

White rice, good or bad, I've been eating them all my life. Eating bread doesn't feel like a meal at all.
Exactly
I prefer white rice with a veggie stir fry🙋🏻♀️ Love Veggies! White rice is my side dish so 75% veggie stir fry and 25% white rice😋
White rice is more delicious and easier to cook, thankyou
Yep, that is the path to healthier food...salty and delicious and it must be easy to cook. You get just the right amount of salt, and I could make my dirty socks taste good...LOL.

I lost weight eating white rice especially with protein added like salmon shrimp or grilled chicken I'm having jasmine rice with salmon and cauliflower today I am losing weight happy and full😉🙌. Brown rice takes FOREVER to soften. Lol
Add eggs and veggies to.
Do u eat rice everyday?
@Darlene DeVegan veggies are less bio available nutritionally but yes they should still be included in the diet
Winterstick549 yes I like rice with eggs
I cook organic Basmati brown rice like white rice. Once it starts boiling, lower the heat in low fire for about 15 minutes.
Gosh you are amazing. I have never heard this explanation before. When I lived in West Africa for a few years as a 12 year old, everybody ate white rice, nobody ate or bought brown rice . Being of African heritage I tend to eat white rice as part of a meal once a week as I find brown rice rather heavy. You have made my day. You are so knowledgeable, I have just found your channel and I have been binge viewing your vlogs. I am learning a lot..thanks so much!
This is good reasoning, makes good sense . I feel very justified in eating my white rice now.😉
its actually misinformation. Do your own research.
I lost about 180 lbs when i moved to Brazil. Ate rice and beans twice a day and always went back for seconds. Never ate salad. Never dieted. Was just eating the foods from Brazil, but also i was very active walking, playing with my dog, and more walking.
Very helpful
Thanks I was anorexic and struggle to eat enough to stay well. Thanks for making me less of afraid of it.
GOD Bless you, Stay Strong and continue to reach out. 💚🙏🏽!
Aww u a sweetie. Eat well
@AJtheory That's a bit insensitive, don't you think?
@AJtheory No, i meant that to tell an anorexic person "just stop" is insensitive. I'm anorexic, but I still fast and do keto. It's recommended for people with eating disorders not to diet. But it's more than a fear of gaining weight, it's a control issue.
@AJtheory What I mean by control issue is that when people feel like they're out of control, they control their eating habits, which become an obsession. But I don't think you get it, man. Anorexia never really goes away for your entire life, because like depression, it's a mental illness. You can be recovered but still have those thoughts. I recently relapsed, but it's not always a weight issue. It's the power of control, to be able to have intense self discipline in order to see the numbers on the scale go down, which is seen as a reward, but creates a negative cycle. Telling someone recovered (or still suffering) with an ED to do Keto or IF is a guaranteed way to derail their recovery. It's a polarizing illness that's incredibly black and white, where things are "good" and things are "bad". Polarizing foods and eating windows, even if better for health, aren't better for anorexics because they'll take the framework of the diet/lifestyle and make it extreme. They turn it into a diet.
I love white rice especially Thai jasmine rice. I eat it everyday and I’m pretty healthy..lol.
Thank you for facts and perspective on the nutrition/health/digestion comparison of brown vs. white rice. It gives me more confidence in our family's choices.
I love my wife's fried rice in Thailand.
She adds two eggs, veggies, usually kale, scallions, tomato and anything laying around and when I'm a good boy, shrimp!
Thai rice blows away rice grown in the USA.
Brother Dave, I'm going to try her recipe it sounds super delicious. 💚🙏🏽!
While your back in the US she is still working in the bar.
@G Thompson Greetings, G Thompson. American or Asian, people in general know what they, personally, like. Caroline likes Asian rice, while you favor American rice, two individuals with their own tastes buds. Let's remember to appreciate one anothers individual differences. 💚🙏🏽!
Oh I love Thai rice. I've been wanting my mom to buy Thai Jasmine rice instead of the usual brand we get but they are more expensive.
@G Thompson brown rice tastes terrible
I choose white rice cause I am still study, not enough money to buy brown rice lol.
Same! I grew up in an Asian family eating lots of rice, so when I went to college, I just cooked myself a bowl of white rice with vegetables every night for dinner- no issues with weight/fitness at all for me :) Unless rice is literally the only thing you're eating, then white/brown is not much of a difference.
indeed :)
hafiyyan mazlan haha yr comment is funny.
I love you Joannah! You're the best trainer anyone can have ❤️❤️
The explanation at 4:00 is key. Food digestion is key, and many foods have some kind of skin, shell, or even a chemical emitting coating to protect itself. Consuming these outer 'shells' is the biggest challenge to good health.
I'm Indian and I just love white rice . Theres my logic lol.
and that is why you look like 💩
Thanks Johana :) I am Indian and white rice is staple food in my culture..I was not able to give up white rice over Brown.I was trying hard though..this Info cleared all concepts and I can take rice in moderate quantity with lots of fibre..great video..xoxo

Thanks joanna for clearing my doubt on eating white rice. I started losing fat doing workouts n tips provided on your channel. But I never ate brown rice and in a confusion to change from white rice to brown rice. But this video gave me full idea. Kudos to your work👏
This is one of the happiest thing i have heard after such a long time
THANK YOU FOR THIS! I've always wondered why Western diet demonizes white rice. I'm like "if it's so bad... how are Asians so healthy and small"?
Westerners are also quick to add flavoring to white rice: Soy sauce is the first time to come to mind. Adding unnecessary sodium. I also known an American who puts butter on his white rice. Butter? As a Chinese-American I don't do either. For me soy sauce is a cooking ingredient and butter is for toast.
threre are no vitamines in plastic rice thats why their skinny. cost too much to eat over their too. we got huge 2nd generation asians here in the USA with tiny parents. True they eat slightly different from their parents but as kids they ate what their parent made them.
MrAlivallo.....the rumors of plastic rice only date back to 2011. 6 years doesn't explain generations of small Asians. More relevant rumors of plastic rice are just that....RUMORS. To date there are no substantiated reports from reliable sources, only often repeated controversial conspiracy stories on social media.
A better explanation for small Asians is degrees of poverty within its history. For example for much of Mainland China's history it was an agrarian society. Modern industrialization did not really began until the AD 1960s in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution which led Mainland China to it's current economic status. Point of fact, in the more prosperous coastal cities Chinese society has to deal with a unexpected after-effect of their enhanced incomes: child obesity. And on the subject of Asian-Americans, as an ABC (American born Chinese) the first generation of immigrant Chinese, yes, my parents were small as am I. Being poor, proper nutrition in the 1950-60s were hard to come by. For my son (2nd generation of Chinese-American) he, as a child, had a more proper diet so he is taller than I (5'6"). Not quite average American height but an improvement. Also a bit over-weight, which I blame on American fast food, which is also why Mainland Chinese children are suffering from childhood obesity.
Thanks for the insight! it seems the first 1/2 my post was cut off. making my statement seem ridiculous, sorry for that. Got to get those vitamins, even at an older age, I will stick with whole grain when I have a choice for sure.
You're welcome. Half your post was cut off? May I ask what your full comment was intended to be?
Thanks for posting this video. I ate brown rice for several years because of all the health arguments promoted. But I really wasn't happy, because as a Chinese American I eaten white rice all the time and really missed it. After several years of miserably eating brown rice, I realized that I hadn't felt any change in my health and that brown rice hadn't made any difference health wise. I went back to white rice, was much happier, and concluded that for me at least, the psychological benefits of white rice by far outweighed any undiscerned benefits of brown rice.
You're eating the Wong rice.
Congratulations, Michael! Not everyone is capable of mental regression.

Jasmine white rice is the best and smells wonderful when it's cooking:-)
my way my favorite rice to eat daily but I like medium grain sticky sometimes but too expensive
I eat white rice because I think it taste better... why have food you don't like? But it's so great to hear someone say it's okay to eat white rice! Yay!
agreed...
My dirty socks can be made to taste better with just the right amount of salt.
BTW, it's OK to eat dirty socks because I say so. Great logic! LOL.

I never would have thought that brown rice would be causing my stomach problems. I'll definitely keep this in mind going forward. Thanks for sharing!!
Wow! Everything you said makes so much sense! Moderation is key, not giving up white rice! Thank you!
White rice tastes better! Great video .
Yeah it is irrelevant if you eat less of it. But most asian especially in Philippines, people eat way too much like 2cups 3x a day for average male adults. It is heavy for the pancreas
yeah. like. to me white rice tastes so much better than brown, even if brown were significantly better health wise I just wouldn't make the switch. white rice just goes with food so much better. brown rice brings its own (not so great imo) flavor to the meal rather than being a flavor conveyor like white rice is.
Dale Gab true I don’t eat it everyday but u eat it maybe twice a week or three times that’s it
The japanese sticky sushi rice is best rice. Other white rice sucks
I'm poor so I'll stay with white 😅
me too...
Same lol
Same lolll😂😂😂😂
Brown rice taste and texture is shit
[ : bad-philosophy. Look into macrobiotics. In the long-run whole-foods safe you more money, because your overall-health increases. And how did you get there: being poor(?). Unless it is big-pharma that got you there and keeps you there... stay away from them anyway, them dangerous. Abundance and prosperity for you. Ps: eat miso-soup. Good luck! ]
Loved this! Chose white rice because of my digestion issues and glad I did! This was an intelligent, well informed and articulate video! Thanks!!

I LOVE WHITE RICE!!! I feel like I would die without it :D
Lmao I'm Asian bruh I dont know any other kind of rice XD
+Mayniac 19 I'm Asian too! I have also tryed brown rice, red rice, and wild rice. But white rice is da best :D
White rice is delicious, but perhaps my Asian roots are making my comments biased. I made myself start eating brown rice years ago because it was touted to be healthier, but it just doesn't taste or feel the same with my normal dishes I make. White rice is just PERFECT! I ditched the brown rice after a year or so and it's all about the white rice! I wonder if Asians have, over the years, become evolved to process white rice differently from the western folk. The scientist in me wonders...
Random Vegan Girl White rice is life I cant do brown

Very comprehensive comparison and knowledge. Thanks so much! Is it ok to skip rice permanently (except occasional) if i were to look at losing weight and working out? Like eating more protein to replace carb
I remember watching you years ago, when I was very much into fitness, but I fell off from that lifestyle. Now that I’ve come back and found you again, I’m amazed by your success! Congratulations!

I love white rice I could eat it every day, thank you for the info.
Loving your videos. So informative.
Over-night white rice still tastes good, while brown rice is just ew.
Truth
I know right
Well...I kind of disagree : ) I use over-night brown rice all the time. It goes great into wok/stir-fry/risotto dishes and brown rice porridge(with oatmilk, cinnamon, honey, fresh apples) is the Best!
If you cook it properly it is fine. I use a good broth.. perhaps coconut oil.. ginger.. garlic.. ?? Tastes great.
Brown rice just doesn't taste that good at all and the texture is very annoying to eat in comparison to white rice. White rice just tastes very yummy.
Brilliant! Finally explained to me and concurs with what I always believed! I stopped eating rice for years because I disliked the taste of brown rice and thought that was the only rice I was supposed to eat but I came to the same conclusion as you did regarding making white rice a part of a larger meal that has protein and fiber. Thanks!
I have heard removing lectins from foods such as brown rice helps people lose weight, but it is also necessary to help your brain & memory.. So I guess it depends on you & your body.. But U do need lectins. U can get Lectins from cucumbers, tomatoes & almonds.

white rice even has less calories than brown rice, and the less nutrients it has is not important, who eats rice for the vitamins?
Daniel Chachanashvili Brown rice has more fiber
Daniel Chachanashvili It has more fiber
Daniel Chachanashvili in the past it was important because people became sick of not getting enough nutrients of the white rice
If your eating brown rice for fiber you need 5 cups of brown rice to hit you daily rec. Also brown has anti-vitamins
Yes, it is just to hold the veggies.

For sure! That's why they're so lean compared to the average fat american who eats bacon, steak and eggs every single day.

Same here in Nigeria. We eat rice everyday
Get Fit with Natasha No ma’am we can be fat in Jamaica. I’ve seen some questionable sizes
@@GetFitwithNatasha meat and eggs do not make people fat. Fried foods (in vegetable oil instead of superior coconut/palm oil), corn syrup, and sedentary lifestyles make people fat. Meat and eggs are healthy in moderation and Americans don't eat steak or bacon everyday, it's far too expensive lol.

i think basmatti and jasmine are the healthiest..i try to make sure that its GMO free and organic because rice is grown with tons of pestisides and GMO seeds...i only buy the rice from india...enriched rice is all hype and research what 'enriched' really means.
Agreed
Yes I agree. Love jasmin rice.
OH YES!!!! I LOVE BASMATI, OMG AND JASMINE YES PLEASE!?!??!!!! :DDDDDD
I only ever eat basmati rice, i love the taste of it and it works great with cumin and garlic
ColinsCity Google for Jeera Rice recipe.
Right on. Also, just because there are more nutrients in brown rice, doesn't mean they are bio-available. Brown rice is coated with phytic acid, an anti nutrient that inhibits mineral absorption. So it's counter intuitive to always assume whole grains are healthier.
My diet is a bit weird actually. I am an asian woman in my 20s. I am on a high protein / moderate fat / moderate carb diet. Please let me know if this is weird or OK.
8am: White rice + salmon + miso tofu soup + kimchi
(I choose a heavy breakfast because having white rice in the morning would never make me feel sleepy right after. Probably it's because the effect of just waking up makes me feel less sleepy. White rice makes me really energised.)
10am: Yoghurt
11:30am: Gym + protein shake
12pm: Salad + chicken + egg (I do not consume much carbs, other than vegs, from 12 - 4pm as this is the 'sleepiest' time if I were to consume heavy carbs)
Snack: Cranberries (to reduce effect of blood sugar during lunchtime. I don't want to feel sleepy between 12 - 4pm. and I don't want to rely on coffee.)
4pm: Snack - toast with jam
6pm: Brown/red rice + chicken breast + broccoli
Snack: Blueberries, milk
I like your diet videos because they are based on common sense and moderation. Thank you!
You mean
Her videos are anecdotal based, the glycemic index is a dated measure of food and how they affect us individually

The problem being asian is every meal with rice 😂😭😅✌️
Lmao i feel you #AsianProblems
Not a problem at all, rice is amazing lol. I think that's something all PoC share when it comes to food, rice is a main in many dishes that people of color make.
loool this goes for African as well I swear we have rice at least 2-3 times a week
Hanafee Salim same but im black we always eat rice! :P
Asians eat rice 2-3 times a day...
What people don’t realize is not everything is about how nutrition that food item has rather how much of it is your body absorbing. If your body is struggling to digest brown rice, you are stressing out the digestive system and most probably not absorbing those nutrients at all. Besides that there is the risk of more arsenic content in brown rice compared to white rice.
Also the phytic acid contained in the bran binds to vitamins and minerals completely negating their potential benefit.
Most kinds of brown rice have anti-nutrients and also contaminants from the lands
of origin, all of which are in the outer skin. Hence whole grain rice requires soaking
before cooking so as to reduce the intake of anti-nutrients and contaminants.
Rice grown on land having no agricultural poison is rare. Soaking can reduce some
of the anti-nutrient load but much will remain. Pressure cooking is the only answer.
Can you tell me how pressure cooking improves it? I'd be happy to eat white rice more, but I wouldn't want to give brown rice up completely. (and I do have a pressure cooker, but rarely use it for normal meals...) Thanks in advance! I realise this is an old convo :)
white all the way!!. grew up eating rice and beans on a Cuban home-cooked diet
Same👏 a staple in Cuban cuisine and culture
Lol that would sound so wrong out of context
People always tell me I should switch from white rice to brown but the difference is so small that its kind of unnecessary especially if your adding fruit, veg and good protein to your diet. I eat white rice because I like the taste.
My notes:

I love rice in general, but what i love about white rice is that it is quicker to cook, cheaper in price, and goes well with a larger variety of foods. I eat jasmine rice most because of it's aromatic flavor, wether it's good or bad, i cant tell because i always pair it with a ton of veggies and proteins
This is the most incredible video on this topic that I have seen so far! 👏
When I started watching your videos , I had consistency on my diet and workouts. I usually watch your videos while working out, hearing your tips while on sweat. ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Joanna,I really don't like brown rice, but I lost plenty of weight during my intermittent fasting though I eat half cup of rice in my one meal diet including nutrients dense vegetables and meat. Every body is different, but I'm happy to know that it is ok to have white rice from time to time
Glad to hear about how a little white rice w/vegetables & protein is good for you because I love Asian cooking! However, I still prefer brown rice over white rice. Thank you Joanna for the good info!
Basmati Rules 💪💪💪💪
Yes sister Basmati because white rice is bleached white

@@CoffeeHolic4Life What do you like about Jasmine rice? It taste like regular rice to me, but perhaps I didn't prepare it right. I will try it once more...🤔that's what I should've asked for Christmas, a rice cooker🤦. 💚🙏🏽!
@Buttercup58 My husband calls me Buttercup ♥️. Anyhew, which brand of white sticky rice do you use? I didn't know you could you could buy it, I thought it was made using regular white rice. Thanks.💚🙏🏽!

We Indians been eating rice with dal and subji since thousand of years along with chinese brothers we r all healthy
MO JO Can you not be a troll sometimes? Not an Indian, but racism is somewhat a backward trait that left in us, that we SHOULD destroy.
Are you sure that food you mentioned are common part of Indian cuisine for millenia? According to my knowledge a lot of people claim that to be true, but one issue pop up into it and that a lot of kind of vegetables like tomatoes, potatoes are quite new in many parts of the world when we take it historically. Also many people before was so poor to have rice not quite often and eat less expensive grains like millet and rice was for people very up in the society pyramid.
yup, agreed....most Asians in Asia have no issue with rice...this only becomes a problem when they come to America, which has too much processed foods...this makes you fat, not rice...
What about curry? :P
u r right
since I am Indian. my meal consists of Chapati, veggies dal n rice, but often in India people consume rice after eating Chapati, veggies n daal, this causes weight gain, bloating and obesity and people often feel drowsy after lunch because people have consumed too much food. But when I just ate rice, daal n veggies, I did not gain weight. My favorite is white Basmati rice. I just love the smell of it.
your last sentence is what i always say about Basmati rice haha, i can never have any other rice haha
I am south Indian and we don't eat chapattis with rice. for us its just rice and curries ( both non veg and veg)
Nikita Pasar so smart
thats what happens with me as well. I can eat starch but not two different types or two servings without gaining weight. My digestion is too slow for that so my sugar rises too high i think? Idk but yeah its too much
Gabriella Murray thats not the case for me
But thats interesting. I wonder how many people find this to be true
me too, agreed...
Very good presentation with a personable lady. Thank you.
I'm Japanese and it's been hard limiting white rice to once a week! I love your emphasis on the entire meal when assessing the GI impact of a single element!! I'm going to think about that from now on and not restrict rice from my diet.
such a simple yet gr8 explanation. loved it. thankyou.
you're welcome my friend
Brown rice has much more arsenic and mercury. I'm sad to say it but for people that eat a lot of rice, white rice may be the safer option. And protein in the amount you get from rice and vegetables or potatoes and vegetables is the ideal amount for a human. Elevated protein from the sulphur amino acids is the primary driver for reduced longevity. The benefits of a low protein diet likely outweigh the negative aspects of the arsenic and mercury if you have a low protein low fat high carbohydrate diet.
I used to love brown rice but as I'm getting older I noticed you it's harder to digest. So now I like white rice more and it's easier to digest and make my skin looks very nice and youthful. But sometimes I mixed both depends on the meal so I don't miss out much.
I sure do love watching you talk😍
