- Dealing with gas diluting my engine oil I replaced the carburetor, but that wasn’t my problem. Check out the video to see what I discovered.

Charlie, that is a sweet running C10 Patina. It is also a gem with 3 on the tree. We appreciate the TLC your giving to that truck. There isn’t many around in this day & age.
Thanks for the compliment. I really appreciate it
Love the content and your truck, I have a 1970 Chevy c/10 fleetside short bed running a 358 with that same carburetor, only difference, mine is an electric choke. I'm running cast iron vortex heads and my engine is mildly built by our local engine builder. I'm thankful for your info pertaining to the tuning of the AVS , I also love the patina of your truck, I'm going in the same direction with the patina look as well. I will be following you on your channel and if I can figure it out, I will send you a picture of my truck and I also have a video of my engine being run in the machine shop after being broken in. The carburetor was installed right out of the box with no adjustment.
Thanks for your compliment and your support. If you have instagram you can send me a video that way. Instagram name is the same as UA-cam
I have always had good luck with the FelPro sets but always wondered about the crossover being opened. Great video, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the compliment. I’ve always used felpro gaskets with no issues. I’m sure the 1204 gasket I was using is a good gasket but it’s not for aluminum intakes.
Love the truck! Hoping I can get one like it this year. Thanks for sharing with us this cool ride.
Thanks for the compliment. I really appreciate it and good luck finding a c10.
Charlie, very good info, to know very well made buddy ,keep them comming !
Looks and sounds good. I'm looking to get that same carb for my '65 C10 w/ 350.
Thanks! I really like the carburetor
I just bought an edelbrock intake, and low and behold, they tell you which intake gaskets to use in the instructions. "Use either Edelbrock #7201 or Fel-Pro #1256".
What are instructions 😆
I can really use your expertise as I’m working on my 86 Chevy Caprice. I’m in Texas as well
I have a 64C10 with Edelbrocke 1405 and woundee what to upgrade for a better carburator. Now I will go with your choice.
I love that sticker
Those valve covers are sick!
Thanks
@@Chickeneyegarage did you paint the intake manifold to match? Looks great!
Thanks for the PCV instruction.
@@1961Bullet no problem
@@1961Bullet I painted the engine and intake the same color when I put it together.
These motors are strong little gas wont end them just clean it out with the sea foam
I would not trust nylon-locking nuts on the pcv baffles w/ engine heat, would use the all-metal locking nuts. Just a thought-
Thanks for the advice. I might switch them out since you mentioned it
Great video, love the build! I wish mine were 3 on the tree..
Thanks brother. I like the 3 on the tree but 1st gear not being synchronized is less than desirable. I want to get a 4 speed.
@@Chickeneyegarage mine was 4 on the floor, and I've swapped it to a 700r4
@@cadilakisrodcustom actually I would rather do a 5 speed. I could use the overdrive on the highway. 1:1 with 3:73s isn’t good for gas mileage.
@@Chickeneyegarage I bet that's thirsty
@@cadilakisrodcustom it is
Keep up the good work brother !! Love the videos.
Thanks brother. I’m glad you enjoyed the video
I just ran into this issue. I have a 283 in my 68 c10. I put a aluminum intake on with felpro metal gaskets and had a water leak. After reading the instructions that came with the intake it said twice not to use the felpro metal gaskets.
I wish I would have had that issue early on. At least I could have put the correct gaskets on instead of buying a new carburetor just to find out the intake gaskets are bad. Live and learn
Sell me the old carburetor…keep up the good videos
I’ve got an edelbrock 1406 less than a year driving replacing with avs2 as well
I suggest upgrading that 1405 to a 4x4 style set up with the spring loaded float jets like a carter and your check ball under the accelerator squirters to a spring instead of a weight. Because squirter can drip if not functioning properly.
Just ordered an AVS2 for my father's old '65 Mustang to replace a rather pesky Holley...thank you for a video that talks a bit about tuning in a concise manner! Do you still like the carb?
I still like the carb. It could use some fine tuning but overall it works great. I think you’ll like it. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for your support
And hopefully check ball and weight actually exist. Or possibly reversed .
Weight under or over can cause fuel in oil.
those fel pro gaskets are for factory Iron intake , the Edelbrock intake which is softer Aluminum , requires a more plyable gasket , Edelbrock makes the recommended Gasket for their intakes .
Yeah I wish I would’ve known that when I built the engine. Live and learn the hard way sometimes. Only reason I don’t use Edelbrock gaskets is the runner openings are too large for stock applications. They’ll work but I would rather have the smaller port size.
Good vídeo brother 👊
Thanks 👊🏻
If you have a lean bog check metering rods also changing that step up spring makes sense numbers wise but go back to orange spring.
When I try adjusting my idle mixture screws, nothing happens. I can’t pinpoint an obvious vacuum leak, and it runs decent when 90% of air is blocked off. So I assume it’s running lean.. what am I checking for when checking metering rods ?
If you can not get it to get rich by backing out the idle jets, the feed for the idle/transfer circuit needs be increased, with out doing that will always have a boog . Note what does your vacuum do if you go up just off idle to 1/4 throttle dose it prop off?
Great video and I'm definitely stealing some ideas for my wife's 63 Panel! On the PCV,do they not leak? Cool truck and thanks for showing our Savior's mighty name!
Thanks for the compliment. I don’t have any issues with the pcv setup.
Nice truck . Was curious if you checked fit of intake without runner gaskets and end seals . If block was ever decked or heads surfaced , there can be gaps that run full length of heads . If excessive , the fix is to have intake runner area milled .
If I was still having issues that was going to be my next thing check. As of right now I’m having no issues so I think I’m good to go.
I’m with wingman… this stuff should’ve been checked before assembly. This isn’t a gasket failure at all.
Git - R - Done
Sounds good. great video. I have the same carb I'm putting on. ? what mufflers are you running? I was thinking the flowmaster either 40 or 50 series.
Thanks. They are Flowmaster Flowfx mufflers. Similar to a magnaflo
I think ur old gaskets r for a 96-02 350 vortec engine probably y they fail I watch vintage iron on youtube and don’t quote me but think he uses them on vortec engines
Hey how do you get power from the power switch for the electric choke edelbrock, Avs, carburetor? I heard I can also get power from the fuse box how can you show me plz thank you
I’m not sure but my guess is from a key on 12 volt source
Run some sea foam
Where do you connect the electric choke to?
I think it needs a key on 12 volt source going to it.
Did you get coolant on your oil when you checked your dipstick? When i checked the engine oil there was coolant in my dipstick and my radiator fluid is is now low. I think my intake gasket went out as well.
I did not. Are you using the same gasket I did with an aluminum intake?
@@Chickeneyegarage no im using the edelbrock top end kit that came with the kit. I just went ahead and bought new head gaskets and new fel pro intake gaskets.
@@armygreenfj3924 do you install your gasket dry? I did one time and had the same issue you had. I started putting a thin coat of rtv around the water jackets of the cylinder head. Never had an issue but most gasket companies recommend installing them dry so take my advice as a suggestion.
@@Chickeneyegarage i had it rebuilt at a shop. They are covering it under warranty. I just had to buy the gaskets. I did notice the instructions say to install them dry. Ill take your advice and let them know.
ah man you didn't show the float setup.
Could you explain how all that raw gas gets into the motor oil via the intake gaskets?
Bottom floor of the gasket not sealing properly. I know when I pulled the intake the gaskets were wet around the sealing surface.
how to just floats on this carb? I have always run Holley and I'm going to this carb
You have to remove the top of the carburetor to access the floats. Float drop is supposed to be 15/16” and float level setting, basically flip the top upside down, you can use a 7/16” drill bit to set it (leave the gasket in place). Make adjustments on the float drop by bending the rear tab. Adjust the float level by bending the arm connecting to the float. You only need minor adjustments. It’s easy just takes a little longer than a Holley. I’m sure there’s a ton of videos on UA-cam about it. If you have any more questions let me know and I’ll do the best to help you out.
how is that 650avs holding up? im thinking about getting one
It’s working great. Best Edelbrock carburetor I’ve ever owned.
I’m wondering if it will be ok for a ford 460 Lincoln. Mild engine. Around 325HP. It originally came with a 750cfm. But the AVS tops out at 650
@@katkiller50 they make an avs 800cfm
I picked up an Avs2 650, do you think will this do well with a sbc 305?
If it’s a stock 305 a 500cfm avs2 would work better. If it’s a radical 305 then you might be ok.
nylon melts in heat
Is the avs2 taller than the performer?
I don’t think so
