Odd that she decided to play this exhibition. She only entered one red clay event in Geneva, lost in the second round to Paulus. The strokes are still there, but the Queen of Clay simply did not have the patience or endurance for the red dirt anymore. Other than a couple of fine efforts on hard courts ( Fed Cup, Boca Raton final, and Open QF) and a glorious comeback at Wimbledon QF v laura Golarsa , she was frustrated and unhappy playing anymore.
Chris just was not intense , her mind was not on it. Anyone thinking she could’ve gotten another year out of playing should see this match . Maleeva did nothing but keep the ball in play. Chris hit one shot after another out or in to the net.

Nah I think she was injured during the clay season.
