And you cant take that away from someone. They have that level of passion for a thing you have to just appreciate it. He cares about the people who work with him and their goal of creating what they did. You have to respect that.
The way he almost broke down crying when he received that plaque really tells you how dedicated Ed is to his team and the product they produce. Good on him for not just not selling out, but for buying in to himself and investing in the cultivation of strong meaningful relationships. He said it was a team effort, and I feel like he would put his whole teams names on that plaque if he could. Congratulations Smokin' Ed!

As a Dane who has followed Klaus for years since he started doing chili challenges in Denmark and having followed hot ones as well. This was amazing to watch. To see that you actually brought Chili Klaus to saying "I'm done" and "I'm in heat"... Well freaking played guys!
When Ed gets the plaque the first words out of his mouth were in recognition of the team that helped him get there. That guy is a true leader, and that is the reason they continue to reach greatness. Congratulations!
Every interview I've ever seen with Ed just confirms what a humble and hard working guy he is. His story is amazing and shows you CAN do anything you set your mind to.
You know it's a serious pepper when you see Chili Klaus actually tapping out. He's been able to talk during other challenges, but it's clear this one really overwhelmed him.
@@skoop651 Regardless of the questionable choice for officiating, this absolutely deserves to be top of the pyramid, there is plenty of analysis by others besides Guinness that back up the claims on the SHU of Pepper X, it's been in development for 10 years, there's data, trust me.
Not only that, but to also give so much credit to his team, and everyone involved in the process. He's a very grateful person, and it's so wholesome to see those people succeed.
Chili Klaus is a delightful man, I'm always happy to see him make an appearance, same goes for Smokin' Ed Currie, seeing him get so emotional was pretty wholesome.
Honestly, I didn't expect Ed to be able to handle it how he did. It looked like he just ate an unusually spicy bell pepper... Absolutely mind boggling!
Ed can eat chillies all day, but it was the Record Plaque that really blew him away. Such a humble reaction from a man who has dedicated his life to achieving this goal. Made me tear a little for him, not gonna lie 😭 what an immense moment of recognition for all the hard work done by Puckerbutt ❤️
I loved this episode!! ESPECIALLY when Klaus asks ‘did you invent this? (yes)…WHY?’ Cracked me up the way it was so natural and everyone else cracked up too. Well done and congratulations!!
Mind over matter is a real thing. You subject yourself to enough pain, you still feel the pain every time, but you don't express it. It's like when Wolverine retracts his claws.
@@nahor88 Well, for a more boring explanation - he's eaten so many extremely hot peppers, that over time, he's developed a tolerance to their level of spiciness, just like a person does to drugs, so eating one of those is probably still pretty hot (he did tear up a little), but not a big deal all the same.
"I'm in heat!" Oh, Klaus... never change! 🤣 Great to see you on the show again! Congratulations on the world record Ed and may the people who try to steal your inventions get a dab of Pepper X sauce right in their eyes!
The point where Ed gets the certificate says so much. He is so emotional he can barely speak. It shows how much work and effort was put into this for years. Real passion towards his coworkers and his craft.
I hope to see him as a guest judge on MasterChef one day, just for fun. See Gordon bully him and have him taste great spicy dishes made by the contestants.
Ed’s pepper X has been in the vault for 10 years. This guys has bred and eaten peppers twice as hot as his current world record. This was light work Ed the Extinguisher. Would love to meet him someday.
Being Danish, watching Chilli Klaus (also Danish...) is a treat 👍. He us usually rather calm and collected when eating hot peppers - but he looses it here, forgetting what being "in heat" means in English...😂😂😂.
@@zinc470yeah from what I can tell the two others are eating pieces, only Klaus and the inventor of the chili ate the full thing - so for a first time experience of something of this scale I'm very impressed with his composure, and happy for the funny clips 😂
Ed’s sheer passion and devotion to the peppers makes me so happy to know that he’s the sole owner of all of it . If you can imagine your boss being so invested and sticking to core values and being so happy to talk about the product . Who wouldn’t work under them? Love it and wish nothing but continued success to this insane human being 😂
@@ghostpiratelechuck2259 if I recall correctly he said the main thing that was killing him was his addiction to alcohol but that he was doing other things as well.
Man, Ed really deserved this. You can tell this is not a job or simple hobby for him. When he found out he had won this record he almost cried. This seems like a "magnum opus" kind of moment. The passion he has for these chiles is a kind of passion not many people have for anything, and there's something about that kind of dedication, hard work and expertise that you have to admire and respect so much.
Well put, Im always so deeply moved seeing a master of their craft doing what they love. Be it sports, acting, or pepper farming, it's so great to see someone who is THE best in the world at something to be humble and vulnerable. That's true strength
So cool to See Ed take a moment to gather himself before sharing his thoughts. You can tell how much passion goes into what he does and his love for his team.
Wow that looks HOT! And remember as Ed Currie said: Chili Klaus is the only person in the world to eat an whole Pepper X besides himself, Sean and Heatonist "only" ate small pieces, so even more respect to Chili Klaus. 🙏 - and a HUGE congratulations to Ed Currie for the new Guinness World Record! 👏👏👏 I have had the privilege to meet Chili Klaus in person a couple of times, and I can tell you he's exactly the same person in private as you see in the videos, nothing fake about him, he's a genuinely nice and down to earth guy.
He is a great example of a leader and not a boss. He doesn't take the credit for himself. He acknowledges everyone and the team effort. He chooses to use words like "we," not "I," and he has a team mindset. Ed currie your awesome. Keep up the great work!
I love how Pepper X almost looks like an alien fruit from a movie that you know the main characters are going to eat even though the audience is screaming don't.
I haven’t watched Hot Ones in a really long time, but this one took me back to when I used to watch every episode. I’m always down to watch Sean and Chili Klaus hurt themselves with insanely hot peppers. It’s pure comedy gold. Ed is an animal.
It says a lot about Ed that he acknowledged his team immediately and sincerely when he was asked how HE felt about getting the record. Being the face of the company, it would have been so easy to just portray it as a moment of personal glory. We love Ed
You can just see how passionate Ed is about his craft. The emotion as he was given that award and talking about his team and all the work they all put in, that was pretty great.
Yeah his passion is stealing other peppers and giving them new names 😂 Just like he did with the Reaper 😂 Then he paus Guiness to give him the record so he can market his sauces and seeds, hes a FRAUD. Hottest pepper in the world is still the FG Jigsaw and Ed Currie will forever be known as a hack in the pepper community.
@@stephentarantino1313 Bro he HIRED guiness to come and give him the record. There is no such thing as an official record for hot peppers. Its just Ed paying Guiness to give him the record. Guiness is not an authority on any award they give, they are a money making company that creates fake hype. Ed Curry STOLE seeds from 7pot Primo pepper (look it up) and made CR out of it. Hes a hack that used Guiness for his own gain and marketing just as he is doing with Hot Ones, these people are here to make money, not the hottest pepper!
@@Somnusrei capsaicin can be refined (pure capsaicin is somewhere around 15-16,000,000 scoville units), there are already products that are hotter than any possible pepper, and we can already watch people consume such items Ed probably already knows or at least has a good idea of what the upper limit is for a "natural" pepper, but I admire him more for wanting to create something that also tastes good (because we can already make stuff that is hotter than naturally possible, but generally just ends up tasting terrible)
At 12:05, Ed is calmly explaining what is happening to the body, and clearly is super amused by how it's destroying them. The smile he gets when he talks about their brains saying "what's going on?" I died. 😂😂😂

We can also book him on his website for events and other stuff. He's doing well for himself with locally. 😊
It’s not a pain tolerance per say but a spice tolerance. Which is kind of weird considering spice is just a chemical reaction that your in pain but not actually hurt. Hard to explain but anyways you can build up a pretty mean spice tolerance, and still feel a shin kick all the same.
@@odjsjaks He's entirely right. Your mouth triggers a pain response, it'd be the same as biting a cactus(Just less lasting effects). However your tolerance to different types of pain may vary. Some people are quite resistant to temperature but not other things and vice versa. The nerve endings that are responsible for this are called nociceptors, they detect negative stimuli and send impulses to the brain.
I've watched Ed loosely on his journey to create this pepper, seeing his dreams realized on this platform is an absolutely beautiful moment. Congratulations on your lifes work Mr.Currie you said you'd do it, people tried to stop you for nearly 10 years, and now you can reap the rewards. well done
People really need to do more research on his "creation" of the carolina reaper. there is a surprising amount of evidence showing he did not create it and he is not a liked man in the pepper community, he is seen as a fraud by most
@papapotatopie Speculation is not evidence. I've searched high and low for the latter and have only found the former. If you have actual evidence, please post it up so that we can all evaluate it because everyone should know the truth. Until that evidence is presented and evaluated, Ed created the Reaper. Everyone who loves superhots should be happy about the continuation of these pepper strains, except maybe those who covet the top spot but have been unable to attain it.

Well said. I was really impressed by that as well, such humility.

It's so wholesome to see his emotional reaction to receiving the record. It makes me happy to see people being validated for their hard work.
Even more beautiful that the line that gets him is, “It takes a team.”
He clearly loves those who work with him.

Ed seems like a humble standup dude. Nothing better than seeing people like him succeed and get their props.
You can tell that this guy loves his peppers. You feel his passion for the craft and his happiness about the recognition of his work
Not only that, but to also give so much credit to his team, and everyone involved in the process. He's a very grateful person, and it's so wholesome to see those people succeed.
In the video he seemed to take a very secondary role, humbly stepping back when anyone else was talking. But I blubbed when he took the award.
It was so wholesome when he started getting choked up.
Man really cares about his craft and the people he works with.

Ed forcing one tear to show he’s not an alien while Chili Klaus is just squeaking and gyrating in pain is a level of humor I didn’t yet know existed
We just watched our guy on the far right’s soul leave his body once he announced the throat burn
Gyrating? Haha maybe in his mind, which looks that way. He was in heat.
I’m in heat had me 😂🤣😭

Chili Klaus is a delightful man, I'm always happy to see him make an appearance, same goes for Smokin' Ed Currie, seeing him get so emotional was pretty wholesome.
He is one of the most likable people ive ever come across.
His voice is like the most perfect butter spread over the most perfect toast.
Right?!?
I feel like there is a permanent place on hot ones for Chili Klaus.
And yeah, I’m going to have to start following Ed as well.
Congrats to Klaus for being only the second person in the world to eat a whole Pepper X. It looked really intense.
Honestly, I didn't expect Ed to be able to handle it how he did. It looked like he just ate an unusually spicy bell pepper... Absolutely mind boggling!
Why didn’t Sean eat a whole one?
@@KM-hk8tc as Kat Williams said, I got things to do today 🤣
Ed can eat chillies all day, but it was the Record Plaque that really blew him away. Such a humble reaction from a man who has dedicated his life to achieving this goal. Made me tear a little for him, not gonna lie 😭 what an immense moment of recognition for all the hard work done by Puckerbutt ❤️
I Don’t know why but I cried, it was so sweat.

Ed also made the Carolina Reaper, the (current) second hottest pepper ever made, as well as the Apollo pepper.
Record Plaque you mean bad teeth?

I loved this episode!! ESPECIALLY when Klaus asks ‘did you invent this? (yes)…WHY?’ Cracked me up the way it was so natural and everyone else cracked up too. Well done and congratulations!!
hahah yeah, that made me literally bust out laughing!
Ed had more tears for the record than from eating the pepper itself. He is made out of something else.
He has probably eaten dozens of these already

I love the way Ed talks, like the way he says “pepper” is almost like “paper”. He’s just such a pure soul
This was an incredible episode! Ed’s emotion, Sean’s support of Ed, and Klaus coming in and cracking us all up, truly so special!!

Exactly all of this! What a great down to earth episode. Lovely to see the footage of the farms and team too.
I couldn’t have asked for a better combo than Sean, Klaus, and Ed.

So touching when Ed was so overwhelmed with joy. So happy for him.
The point where Ed gets the certificate says so much. He is so emotional he can barely speak. It shows how much work and effort was put into this for years.
Real passion towards his coworkers and his craft.
That was a beautiful moment. Congratulations!
Getting that piece of paper affected him more than eating a whole Pepper X, which absolutely destroyed Klaus.
Sean is a legend. The moment he wants to pivot into the traditional, non-spicy food talk show space, I'm supporting him and his crew.
I hope to see him as a guest judge on MasterChef one day, just for fun. See Gordon bully him and have him taste great spicy dishes made by the contestants.

Being Danish, watching Chilli Klaus (also Danish...) is a treat 👍. He us usually rather calm and collected when eating hot peppers - but he looses it here, forgetting what being "in heat" means in English...😂😂😂.
Even more impressive given that his people aren't exactly known for having spice in their food.
