I'm 20 weeks pregnant and figured it's time for a maternity try on haul, and so many of you recommended asos maternity clothes so I had to try it! The thing I hate about the “foam bump models” is that it does not take into account the other changes that happen in a body. So you see a non pregnant person with a bump in the clothes, you don’t get a sense of how the clothes look with wider hips bones/larger breasts/or other biological changes that happen.
Yes! This was something that made me feel very self conscious when I was pregnant
Yes! Even like arms and legs that might normally be more toned/defined, they just get bigger and you tend to look a little puffy, esp during third trimester so these foam bump models are soooooooo contributing to body image issues at a time when a woman’s body is SO different from week to week that it’s disorienting to look in the mirror. I think this is true even for someone like myself who generally has a forgiving/positive/healthy mindset towards her body. The changes in pregnancy just throw you for a loop and this stuff doesn’t help
@@jamie7002 I’m all about body positivity but I get what I like to call “hotdog legs” when I’m pregnant. They’re sort of the same width all the way down and I get a lot of muscular atrophy from a lighter exercise routine. Also a lot of your muscles loosen and stretch on top of that. It’s definitely a hard time. And I think if it’s an issue of not being able to find models in the right trimester, they should do an open call for women who are at the right timeline for their shoot. It would give work to women who society deems unemployable and make the photos more realistic
Yes! Plus, if you’re looking at a pair of pants, they rarely show the waistline due to the fake belly- which is needed information for real pregnant mamas!

There's an Australian brand called The Mumsie - they're overalls that can be worn before, during and after pregnancy. And the bib of the overalls turns into a baby carrier!

@@savannahjohnson633 I believe the overalls are strong enough to to support up to young toddlers if you’re interested in baby wearing with them. The website should say the weight limit for the baby carrying.
Quick mom tip: when buying tank tops during pregnancy, buy nursing tanks. That way you can use them for breastfeeding after baby is born 🙂
For the oversized shirts with maternity jeans, you could also french tuck to hide the side panels:)
or with the side panels wear a crop top with a cardigan!

This is brilliant
I understand the sympathize with the logistics of getting a model that pregnant - I assume that population is limited. However, I think that slapping a bump onto a model oversimplifies the physical transformation that is being pregnant and does a (potential) disservice to maternity clothing in general. Full disclosure: I am not pregnant and have never been. I just imagine that boobs, arms, hips...etc will change and clothing that does not account for that is a little short-sighted. Also, I think it perpetuates this "skinny" pregnant look that's also unfair - - but maybe I'm over-extending.
I've always wondered about walmart maternity clothes. I didnt know they had them till I was 36 weeks pregnant. Went into labor 1 ½ almost 2 weeks later so I never got a chance to buy them 🙃
They are amazing and constantly on clearance. They seemed to have something every time I went throughout my pregnancy. A lot of the stuff I ended up getting/liking were close to $2-$5 each.

I got my striped grey sweater, more like a long sleeve tshirt, with side ruching. Wore it the WHOLE pregnancy, mind you I couldn't see my toes at 10 weeks, and after. It was my sisterhood of traveling pants sweater for sure. Best $12.

The t shirt at around 9:00 would be perfect towards the end of your pregnancy when you are at the 'Just get this baby out of me stage' and don't want anything touching you that isn't huge and baggy
That’s when I resorted to my husbands shirts because that 100% is a stage
the baggy jeans with the tucked in shirt and scrunchie are giving me very much 80s and I'm loving it!

I bought it (non-pregnant version) in black and I love it!! But size down at least one size, if you have smaller chest even 2 sizes would work! :))
The thing I dislike about them not using actual pregnant models, is that most women typically gain weight and retain water in other parts of their body. It gives such an unrealistic expectation of how pregnant women actually look and made me feel bad when I was pregnant. Maybe they should do open calls for pregnant women who are at the stage they want to photograph to give work to women who society deems unemployable and also give a more honest representation of how the clothing looks.

A review on maternity clothes that can be worn postpartum could be interesting! You could do a video now, and then a video postpartum as a follow up to see if clothes really match their claims.
you should do a french tuck when u wear those jeans and a shirt, especially since the front looks normal. it'll add some waist definition and still hide the elastic.

My mom did a shoot when she was pregnant with my brother in the 90s- their photos hung in motherhood maternity stores for years! But all the other models at the shoot wore foam bumps!

When wearing 2 baggy things I like to do a little French tuck (I think that’s what it’s called) it’s when you tuck your shirt in just a bit at the front and leave the rest out.
That Skirt outfit is stunning! With the sweater rolled up is incredible

I had been looking for shirtdress a while ago and ended up buying one from the maternity line at Asos because it was cute and the only version of the dress (out of the comparable regular, curve, and maternity styles) that came with a tie belt. I figured a little extra material wouldn't be a big deal thanks to the belt and I was right. It worked out great! I have no children, but I own a maternity dress.😄

I LOVED the look of that sweater with the body con skirt, I was so surprised you didn’t like it! It wouldn’t be my first choice if I saw it on the rack but when we first saw it on with the skirt I thought it looked so good together!

I have never been this early! I am excited for this review! I want to see how the clothes fit on a person who I know their style and body type a bit before I would order.
As a plus size person who carries most of my extra weight in the midsection, I found that I could size down in most maternity clothes when I was pregnant. It is the only time in my life I could get clothes that fit really well since they were already made for a larger belly no matter what size chest and butt/hips.

Old navy maternity please, the store here(canada) is ordering from online only, the only things they have in store are returns, so it's hard to know what will fit and what won't. Also due May 17th so excited for our spring babies ❤️

The high waist in the back of the jeans is golden!! I spent half my pregnancies pulling my pants up because they would slide down all day or when I bent over. I think you’ll love those jeans as your belly grows.
I think you should re try these on again at the end of your pregnancy. I had some nice maternity clothes but I got so big they didnt fit me at the end. (My baby was a big girl 9lb 4oz)
The overalls were goals.....BUT......might be a problem when you have to go to the bathroom....specially in your last few weeks of pregnancy. Very cute, though.

You def need to balance maternity jeans or any of the “oversized” fits with the fitted. A few suggestions that worked for me as I’m very petite and would be swimming if I didn’t balance:
1. Oversized shirts, look for a tie in the back or go dark color. Wear with “skinny” maternity jeans. I would also throw a blazer over it to give a better silhouette
2. Panel jeans like you showed works best with a “bodycon” fit hip length top (tunic). If you want to wear a crop too, wear a fitted tank under to cover the elastic waste-band
Try maternity tops that bunch up on the sides. It should give the less bulky look you were talking about.
I lived in my grey striped long sleeve shirt I got from Walmart. I wore that thing my WHOLE pregnancy and after. Definitely agree. Still dont know how it became my sisterhood of traveling pants but best investment.
I always wore a fitted belly showing maternity shirt with the jeans to balance it out. Anything big and loose on top, I'd wear leggings. But let's be honest, maternity leggings are so much more comfy 😂
I wore maternity legging yesterday and tbh I'll probably only buy maternity leggings going forward because they are that much more comfy
This is the first video I've seen of yours since you announced being pregnant and I can see SUCH a transformation in you, you don't care about the clothes fit as much and are seeing it more as for comfort and you have the biggesttttt smile on you this whole video that you are almost recognizable from the past videos when I started watching you from almost a year ago, from someone who has never wanted kids, you definitely are inspiring and seeing the joy you have on you face the whole video from being pregnant makes me really happy ❤️

Just a quick FYI! Maternity tops accommodate your bump in a variety of ways. Rouching, smocking, extra panels, and by simply making the front longer are some of the styles. The sweatshirt dress and the first gray dress are examples of longer in the front, which is why you may have felt they weren’t explicitly “maternity.” The gray dress was obviously also empire waist/smocked, but that’s not limited to maternity clothing. The longer front is, however. As you grow, your bump lifts the fabric.
