Lincoln probably would be a more debated figure. People would argue about wether he deserves praise or if he was a racist that didnt actually care about black people. Some people would say he did what he saw as nessesary to bring the country back together, and that pushing too hard with black rights would of been dangerous and could undo any work he had done. Others would argue that by not supporting more black freedom they he was a racist that should be remembered shamefully, caring only about the reunification of the country for white people while still treating black people as animals. Or perhaps he would of folded to political pressure from radicals and would of been more pro black.
@@wylierichardson6519 my critique of Lincoln the tyrant has more to do with his policies in the north during the war then anything including the suspending of right to trial, election meddling, suppressing protests, targeting militias just because of suspicion. it goes on and on while he did achieve his goals the ways he did so was under a completely different system then what he was supposedly defending. would have more respect for him if his policies and actual actions were presented honestly. i also have a problem with the 14th amendment as it was passed not by the full congress vote but by military junta and removing the ability to vote from reintegrated states which would be a violation of the founding documents. while i understand their reasoning the fact of the matter is it is portrayed as an act of the republic and constitutional rather then the far more effective use of military junta and oligarchy just like to desegregate the school they used military force.
One way Lincoln might not have been assassinated was that: Ulysses S. Grant (April 27th, 1822-July 23rd, 1885) had plans to go to Ford's Theater on April 14th with president Lincoln and he though that he could've prevented it from happening. Gen./President Grant regretted it for the rest of his life.
no Mr. Freeman he was not. Julia Grant disliked Mary Lincoln and made Grant refuse the invite. maybe he could have stopped it but my guess is both of them as well as Rob Lincoln would have been killed.
Grant didn’t go because Mrs Lincoln had insulted Grant’s wife. Grant adored his wife and acceded to her feeling not to socialize with the Lincolns. That said, If Grant had gone a military aide would have been in the box with the General or at the door.
There are some who suspect that Grant was in on it, and declined the invitation because he knew what was going to happen, along with a number of other people.
I remember listening to a program that actually explained the details of Lincoln's Reconstruction. It was basically a Marshall Plan for The South, designed not only to rebuild, but also to bring them up to the level of industrialization in the rest of the country. This would've eliminated the need for a slave economy in its entirety.
Before anyone complains about me signaling out the South I'm not. Reconstruction was a very turbulent time. The South and North both were extremely racist by today's standards. Lincoln and most Americans held similar beliefs in the superiority of whites, even if they disagreed on slavery. So before any Southerner dislikes my vid, keep in mind, I know both sides were racist. The South was more violent, but because there were barely any minorities in the North. I'm sure if minorities were in the North, the same would have happened (and did). History is ugly, and fucked up. North was racist, so was the South. Don't downvote my video because of it.
Understood. I thumbed you up so don't worry. Heck some racists would probably be shocked by how severe the racism was back then......and the hypocracy. Heck DNA tests are revealing that that "Southern Italian" in the family...was really African American. Usually results in people going o_O....and spending hours in a mirror looking at their body/face. Heck I need to save up my money and get a DNA test done.....one of my ancestors was supposedly "Southern Italian".......
Most historians would disagree with your theory. The biggest difference between Lincoln and Johnson is that Lincoln was simply a much better politician. He was insanely good with bringing the different factions in line behind his policies. Although, they would have proceeded with the same general reformers, most believe Lincoln would have done it better and given his final speech where he openly talked about enfranchising African Americans it is very probably he would have pushed more successfully for racial equality
Steven Adams but he was successful because there was a war going on at the time. With the war over he may have faced greater opposition from his own party, especially those with presidential ambitions, and as a result been less successful in his policies.
@deadpizza9866 statistical probably based on his success pushing reforms through congress. The 13th Amendment springs to mind. Given this is very widely known info. I'm confused by your statement
While Lincoln and Johnson had similar view on Reconstruction, Lincoln would have accepted and implemented the Radical Republicans' plan once they would have overridden his vote. You would not have the Tenure of Office Act and Edwin Stanton would have remained Secretary of War (Johnson's firing of Stanton in violation of the Tenure of Office Act resulted in hist impeachment). One theory of mine: Lincoln may have even ran for a third term which if he would been successful would meant Grant's first term would have started in 1873 and his second in 1877 meaning the grand comprise the Republicans made with the Democrats to withdraw federal troops from the south in exchange for Rutherford B. Hayes winning the contested 1876 election would noit have happen.
Lincoln in many ways went further than Johnson in that he wanted, before, during and after the war to have as many Blacks as possible colonized outside of the United States and the form Confederacy. Even the day bore his assassination he was discussing plans for a new Black colony in Central America. In many ways Lincoln would be considered a Racist today for believing that not all Black men were entitled to the vote and that Blacks and Whites were better off living apart.
I believe the question here is what if the South had been content with Douglas' nomination? The chief reason Lincoln won the 1860 election was the fact that the South, even when they were threatening secession (again) if a Republican won the Presidency, they would not settle for any old Democrat (namely Chicagoan Stephen Douglas). So they nominated their own Democratic candidate, John C. Breckenridge, splitting the party and making Lincoln's victory a certainty. The Democrats' 1860 bungling would not be matched again until 2016, and it seems they have learned NOTHING in the last hundred and sixty years.
IIRC, Lincoln was a fan of the concept of relocating the blacks back to Africa. Could you maybe do a video on "What if the freed slaves were sent back to Africa"?
+himode The Mexicans kicked the Spanish out but that's beside the point. This is about racial violence and vigilantism, not full scale warfare/conquest. There were times when ethnic minorities defeated white supremacist groups (Lumbee tribe, for example).
I'm glad you showed the 1st National Flag in reference to the CSA, instead of the Battle Flag. For those who don't know, while the Battle Flag was incorporated into the designs for the 2nd and 3rd National Flags, it was not on its own used as a proper symbol for the CSA outside of battle. Ergo, using the Battle Flag to represent the CSA makes about as much sense as using the United States Army's flag to represent the US. But, I digress. Very good video.
Spectacular video, and a real eye opener to the fact that sometimes a single event can have great impacts, while others will have changed little! -Austin
Julian Stephenson My guess is World War I would still happen. Europe was at odds with each other and war was bound to happen. If the Black Hand terrorists failed to kill Archduke Ferdinand, war would still be declared for the attempt. If the attempt never happened, then something else to start the war would have.
The war was mostly provoked by germany giving austria hungary the go ahead to invade serbia because at the time germany was a new nation only 40 years old and he (Kaiser Frederick William Victor Albert) wanted to prove it's power by going to war so he would've still started a war somehow
@@josestarks8892 Lincoln felt that dumping Hamlin allowed a coalition between Unionist Democrats and Republicans, and reduced the influence of the Radicals. But Lincoln won because Sherman gave Lincoln a major victory at the right time. That boast and the heavily Republican Army vote gave Lincoln his re-election. For the next thirty years the Union veterans were a core constituency of the Republican Party. Every Republican President from Grant through McKinley was a former Union officer.
I'm new to your channel as of today, and I love it. I am a huge history buff myself, and sometimes wonder about these kinds of situations myself. So I would be honored if you would cover any one of the following scenarios: What if the USS Yorktown was not sunk at the Battle of Midway? (but the rest of the battle happened as it did) What if the USS Lexington was not sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea? (But the rest of the battle happened as it did) What if Operation Downfall ended up happening? (Assume the bombs never fell) What if the idea of Zero was embraced by the ancient Greeks? (No seriously; it took centuries for the western world to accept not just the number, but the idea of Zero) What if Alaska was never sold to the United States? What if Germany invaded the Soviet Union first instead of Poland? What if William the Conqueror never invaded Great Britain? What if Karl Marx never published The Communist Manifesto? What if The Kansas-Nebraska Act was never passed? What if John D. Rockefeller never founded the Standard Oil Company? What if the Bessemer process was never created? (it made steel production cheap and efficient) What if the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand failed? (But the attempt still took place) What if poison gas was never deployed in World War I? What if the Irish potato famine never happened? Thanks for hearing me out; I'd love to see one of these get made one day.
+LordVader1094 Isn't the point of this channel to look deeper into the 'What if' jar so to speak? This channel already covered if the South won. He just covered what if Lincoln was never killed so, why not what if the North never went to war in the first place? I think somebody is projecting a bit much, eh? Haha.
The main thing that stuck with me in this video was that apparently the republicans were the non-racist party and the democrats were the racist party. That's a change from today... Btw, not to say that all republicans are racists or no democrats are racist, but certainly when you hear plans about being particularly rough on immigrants they generally come from republicans (at least in my experience).
When the less popular Democrat party started to favor the minorities in the late 40s they gained support in the North and lost in the South. During the Cold War, the Republicans favored nationalism and American dominance which gave them loads of support in the South. To answer your question, it was the Cold War and Civil Rights that caused the switch.
Just discovered this channel. Awesome. Love to see educational UA-cam channels. Think they are the driving force that keeps education fun and relevant for the young generation.
What if Constantinople never fell to the Turks/Ottomans? What if the Tokugawa Shogunate won the civil war? What if France won the French and Indian War?
Solaxe S It would've fallen eventually but who captures Constantinople is important. Once the Ottomans captured Constantinople they cut off trade between Europe and Asia. This led to European colonialism. Use your brain.
I think an interesting question would be, what would have happened if James Garfield had not died of his gunshot wound just months after his inauguration ? The wound was survivable even in the 1800s, but the doctors refused to sanitize their hands and he died of an infection. James Garfield was a staunch supporter of black civil rights. He had been an abolitionist. I think he would’ve been a champion of blacks, had he served out his first term and possibly been elected to a second one. How would this have affected black civil rights in the last 20 years of the 19th century and in the 20th, if Garfield’s doctors had simply sanitized their hands and medical instruments?
What if the assassination attempt proceeded by failed? Either the gun jammed/Booth missed or the bullet struck Lincoln but hit an inch to the left or right and he survived? I feel like there are two possibilities though they aren't mutually exclusive: 1) Lincoln wakes up from his coma and finds the country is in deep mourning. He has a lot of good will and southern politicians work with him during reconstruction - in an attempt to prove loyalty to a widely popular president they forcefully put down groups like the KKK before they become powerful. 2: Lincoln, with some prodding from Mary Todd, becomes extremely paranoid and takes revenge against enemies real and imagined. The South remains a military zone without the right to vote. Lincoln pulls an FDR (pre-FDR) and keeps running for president backed by northern financial interests hoping to industrialize the south. A strong military presence snuffs out the KKK though - very violently and many Southerners flee to Cuba, Mexico, and South America setting up in a pre-existing slave state, like Brazil, causing continued fighting in our hemisphere between the USA and the former CSA now based in South America that comes to aid of the Spanish during the Spanish-American War leading to a much harder fight but still, I think, an ultimate American victory though South America continues to fight with the USA keeping America from turning globally and slowing (at the very best) the creation of the American Empire. Thoughts?

if he was shot and survived (with no brain damage) it would probably serve as reignition of the civil war, no matter what Lincoln would do or say, the union would seek retribution for such terrorist acts, and south would build up a new confederacy which I doubt would live long and ultimately it would end shorter than the first. ultimately Lincoln's death made him a martyr to end the war and bring both sides together, the south felt like they lost the war but won the battle whereas the union knew they had lost the battle, but won the war... you get what i'm saying?
birdsqautch man that's a pretty interesting thought, but IDK what else the North could have taken from the South for retribution. The Southern army was in a bad way, and Sherman and Sheridan had already carved paths of destruction through the South. The Southern economy would already need decades to recover, what else would be left to take?
Your channel is absolutly terrific. I was wondering if you could do a video if FDR never came to power? Keep up the great work and thanks for the great content.
This reminds me of the old series "The Time Tunnel". In one of the episodes, the protagonists could prevent Lincoln from bring assassinated, yet they didn't, for this would change the future. :)
I actually think Lincoln's more methodical methods of trying to transition the South back into the Union would have led to the non-existentence of Jim Crowe and KKK. I think the use of massive federal grants and force (coupled with the cabinets corruption) led to the speedy rise of racial hate groups and racist state legislation, something Lincoln wanted to avoid, taking a queue from the founding fathers who opposed slavery.

That would mean any leaders of a specific country would still have someone above them. They have 2 senators from every country and the global House of Representatives would be a lot bigger. Now on to the global capital they decided that the capital should be in Australia because it is the smallest continent which only has 1 country and would basically be the DC of the global government. Now this new global nation would be called the United Countries of Earth and they had to decide on a flag. They had to think of something that represent people in different countries all ready and what they thought of was rainbow pride flag, but not just any rainbow pride flag, it has a picture of the planet on it. Now for the president of this new global nation, in this timeline Harvey Milk did not die from being shot. This gave him national and global influence. So he decided to run for president of this new global government, with Bella Abzug as his running mate. The other top contender is George Bush with running mate insert stupid conservative female here . They both put up a good fight but it ended be Harvey Milk. Young people, women, and minorities all seemed to like him better. The United Countries of Earth had begun and because of this there was no Iran hostage crisis and Carter got re-elected. Also when Aids became an issue World President Milk put a lot of money into research and they ended up being years ahead with it then in are time. Also all of society progress ended moving faster than in are time and because of this it is decades ahead in equality and a lot of problems we still have. With this system it made it easy to get more and clean water to people in Africa and the world in general is just a much better place not perfect since nothing is but the closest you might be able to get to a utopia.
Yeah but your shitty utopia wont happen. Aside from the massive fucking resistance that 99% of the world would have, what would happen is the globalist wet dream would end up getting corrupted as most countries do, except this time theres no fall back option for refugees and the entire fucking planet becomes the equivalent to china and after 30 years turns into an orwellian dystopia with corporations ruling over every aspect of life.

Democrats under FDR helped end the Depression through welfare programs to fight poverty. Republicans adopted the Southern strategy by attempting to slow down civil rights and promote conservative values to appeal to the southern states to compete with the Democrats.
Not really. Don't forget that all of the racist southern politicians during the Civil Rights movement like George Wallace were all Democrats. Do not be fooled into thinking that the Democrats are for equality just because the left has been co-opted by progressive social justice warriors.

I love how the Democrats make their voters think they are the party of equality and diversity, when everyone forgets that it was founded on slavery and disables black people to make them vote for them (ebt cards) and makes the Republicans seem like racists even though they are more diverse and was founded on equality.
I love your videos including this one, but I disagree with your conclusion here. Johnson tried a hardline stance but was overpowered politically by radical Republicans who overruled other opinions and implemented their hardline policies. The South in turn reacted with a hardline approach themselves and started violent movements like the KKK. I see it as a clash between hardline positions, one reacting to the other, each trying to overpower one another rather than seeking a sensable compromise. This led to a violent and turbulent period, which exacerbated racial and regional animosity that ironically helped to undo a lot of the civil right progress that had been made and has long term implications that we still feel today. Lincoln's superior political skills along with the respect he commanded in the Republican Party might have made a difference. Lincoln was a moderate who sought to make compromises in order to end conflict and unify the country. I can't help but feel that he would have been more successful at this compared to the ineffective Johnson. Perhaps lives and resources could have been saved. Also the gentler approach to civil rights progress, although it may have been slower, could have faced less push back in the long run.
David Hopwood i dont know about that there was 4 of Rome's 30 legions if all was destroyed that would be a massive hit to the empire and i dont see them being able to reconquer Britain without risking other parts of the empire
SGT SpiffyWiffy At the time of Boudica's revolt, things in Gaul were peaceful so there would've been no use for the Gallic Legions, they could be routed to Briton to reconquer the Isle.
David Hopwood but what if the defeat inspired unrest in those areas and farther away like Spain or the troops moving away would give them the chance to start some trouble also i doubt the Iceni would not think that the Roman's wouldnt be back and would be much harder the attack the next time remember Rome failed to conquor Britain the first time but maybe the tribes would just start kill each other again and Rome wouldnt even have to try
The last point about the south being bitter I think is a bit too strong. Case in point, when JWB assassinated Lincoln, he wasn't exactly embraced by the defeated south. There was clear evidence that the South was warming up to Lincoln given his methodology of pushing for reconciliation between the two halves of the country. The funeral and national response to his his death showed that he might have had a window to advance that reconciliation. However, in the end I do agree that Jim Crow would have likely returned though maybe not as performatively violent. In the end that would have dampened Lincoln's legacy.
what would have been different with the building of the Transcontinental Railroad? it was a world - changing event, uniting East and West and changing travel time between them from several months to 7 -10 days.
KarlBonner1982 It's really hard to make a clear "left-right" distinction (which is pretty outdated and reductionist anyway) out of certain politcal parties in the 18th and 19th centuries. America much more so because their parties have changed so much through their continued existence.
Frignes not really, they basically flipped sides when FDR came along. If you watch the trends it's pretty clear the Republicans started moving right and the Democrats further left until ultimately passing one another right around FDR. Watch the evolution of each party - it's pretty interesting.
Indeed. It shows you that a party may keep its name but its policies can change so much that it's basically a new and different party from its past self.
It seem like Republicans have always supported freedom, while the most left leaning places on Earth, like the USSR, Cuba and North Korea, have actually brought back slavery as a source of wealth in modern times with their forced labor camps.
As the American Civil War is a historical era that I'm quite familiar with, I've got this one figured out already. Lincoln had a lot more political & military influence than Johnson. The majority of the generals like Grant & Sherman would've supported him far better than they did Johnson. Johnson would've served his symbolic role and been valuable dealing with congress as the vice president. Lincoln would've pushed an agenda that wouldn't have pitted blacks against whites for primarily political gain like the radical republicans did. With a less radical social change, less punitive economy police, & less political manipulation of blacks by the government, race relations would've been considerably better, roughly on par with what the existing "free states" experienced. Over the decades, gradual change would've led to a much more racially diverse and tolerant United States than what we have currently. By the time WWII, the military would've been mixed, rather than mostly segregated. We might have even avoided the whole throwing the Japanese into concentration camps thing After the Cold War, America would pretty much be a lot more united as Americans without much concern over race than it is currently.
Good kind of radical. Now instead we have radical leftist idiots causing havoc on the streets and being more racist, discriminatory and intolerant than people most considered racist in last 30 years, its hysterical....
I find it odd that this is one of the only video's I've watched from you where you don't seem to give a full scope alternate history view of the world. You kind of present your findings of his vice president and a few other interesting things about our timeline, then you're like, well it wouldn't have really mattered if Abe died anyways. Fuck that. I say he was killed for a reason. Of course it mattered that he died, just like JFK he was killed because of his great skills, push for humanitarianism, knowledge to prevent war, and being a kind hearted and greatly intelligent human being. Asshats don't like that. So he ended up dying for it. When a president dies fear grips a nation, and it would have been present on both sides, at least somewhat concerning in the south. History would have not been the same. I'm not even sure America would have led to a violent civil war had he not died, at least it wouldn't have lasted as long, although I'm still of the opinion it wouldn't have split a nation. Sure, in reality all educated american's know the civil war was about State's rights, not the problem of slavery, Abe was a president pushing for state's rights, and not interested in splitting america over the salves of the time. But he was kind hearted enough to understand that humans were humans, although he couldn't convince everyone of this fact, I'm pretty sure he knew it and would have pushed for legislation that supported this. The search for John Wilkes Booth was one of the largest manhunts in history, with 10,000 federal troops, detectives and police tracking down the assassin. It is, to say the least, appalling you think his death doesn't matter in lew to the outcome of American history? I am disappoint. I am Disappoint indeed. I would have thought you of all people would have been able to see the ripples created in time had that gun missed him that fateful night. Sure, we wouldn't be able to guess the laws he would have enacted, or the policies he would have adopted with 100% accuracy, but I am of the opinion, that had his death not happened war would have possibly been averted brother wouldn't have killed brother. The south, namely Atlanta wouldn't have been burned to the ground, and American infrastructure (Train tracks destroyed and dismantled in the south) would have survived, thrived, and early policies that united all men, women, and children, despite color, might have been enacted much sooner in American history. In fact, I am also of the opinion had Abe lived we might have leser tensions when sitting in a room with another colored man simply because of early friendly relations between the white man, and black man. Why, who knows if bills would have been enacted that wouldn't view us a separate anymore. Who knows if the KKK would have survived into this year and carried support with it to commit the atrocities they did. All it takes is one like minded generation to sway a nation, and I believe had Abe lived, that generation might have been born, and this nation would look very, very different from today. Drug Prohibition would be different (and all those Jazz Playing white women loving black men wouldn't have been raping all those white women in the news papers, therefore possibly never leading to the war on drugs). Black/White Relation would, and possibly could be 100% friendly. Things such as black schooling might have happened quite early and the introduction of black and white culture could have formed into one American culture instead of split down the middle like it is now in every major city (downtown uptown.) Complete Equality could have been enacted much sooner and maybe the majority of our grandparents and great grandparents wouldn't be of racist mind and hearts. America could truly be a modern No.1 nation of the world, instead of 50th in nearly every sector and field and our culture being split in an odd shattered state, even now. I suggest highly you re-do this video. As this is the first video in about 20 of yours I've watched that I completely disagree.
What is this? A video about the south and the north during the civil war that has only 76 (may rise) dislikes and 5,064 likes (may also rise)? Bravo AlternateHistory, Bravo.
Thanks for the video it was very interesting. The point you made about Lincoln wanting to give educated blacks and black combat veterans the right to vote coincides with a documentary I mentioned in a comment to another poster. It's called "Abraham Lincoln Saint or Sinner" and within it, it states that Lincoln originally wanted to send all blacks to Africa after the war. However the runaway slaves who joined the Union Army and subsequently died fighting for it changed Lincoln's mind. He felt blacks had earned a place in this new American society. I agree with your premise that not much of American history concerning race relations would have been different unfortunately. But perhaps there may have been some differences. One problem that would have existed was that even if Lincoln had been the most radical Republican of the time the South could simply have waited him out. Which leads me to another point and perhaps you could do an alternate history on this topic. What if the Republicans had never abandoned the newly freed blacks and full citizenship rights had been granted to black people in the 1860's instead of a hundred years later?
The 1960s basically forced the South to make Black people fully free. Black people had full citizen rights "granted" everywhere right after the war but it's true that it was Not actually manifest--Freemen were not defacto legally free in all the Southern states and a few others. They Were fully legally free in Northern states however. There was deep seated racism impacting many aspects of life in most places, however. It was much, much harder for Blacks. I suspect you mean that. However, how you put it is misleading to those that don't know, but you either know that and are slipping it in. Or you don't and it's still misleading.
Black people were graduating from well-known colleges in the North, including Harvard starting in 1870. That shows a profoundly different attitude and possibility, though slim.
That is why I prefer to refer to them as Liberals and Conservatives, even though in this day and age Liberals are becoming more so and Conservatives are becoming less so.

Wow that would of been great. It would also have solved the issues of tariffs
He was wiser and had more foresight than the video conveys, then. How sad we missed out on that.

Your days are over Grant, it's time for a new deal
I think he would have proposed a "Marshall Plan" for the south, after all he said "malice toward none charity for all "
Lincoln in many ways went further than Johnson in that he wanted, before, during and after the war to have as many Blacks as possible colonized outside of the United States and the form Confederacy. Even the day bore his assassination he was discussing plans for a new Black colony in Central America. In many ways Lincoln would be considered a Racist today for believing that not all Black men were entitled to the vote and that Blacks and Whites were better off living apart.
What if Lincoln lost the 1860 election to Douglas?
Civil War postponed unless gradual emancipation of slaves went through. Robert Lee favored this and he had some clout in the South.
ScharkFin glory glory hallelujah!!!
Who
I believe the question here is what if the South had been content with Douglas' nomination? The chief reason Lincoln won the 1860 election was the fact that the South, even when they were threatening secession (again) if a Republican won the Presidency, they would not settle for any old Democrat (namely Chicagoan Stephen Douglas). So they nominated their own Democratic candidate, John C. Breckenridge, splitting the party and making Lincoln's victory a certainty. The Democrats' 1860 bungling would not be matched again until 2016, and it seems they have learned NOTHING in the last hundred and sixty years.
The question isn't what of Lincoln lost in 1860, but what if he had died/ been killed during his militia stint?
IIRC, Lincoln was a fan of the concept of relocating the blacks back to Africa. Could you maybe do a video on "What if the freed slaves were sent back to Africa"?
Yeah!

Julian Stephenson My guess is World War I would still happen. Europe was at odds with each other and war was bound to happen. If the Black Hand terrorists failed to kill Archduke Ferdinand, war would still be declared for the attempt. If the attempt never happened, then something else to start the war would have.

When the less popular Democrat party started to favor the minorities in the late 40s they gained support in the North and lost in the South. During the Cold War, the Republicans favored nationalism and American dominance which gave them loads of support in the South.

Thoughts?
you may be right Jon

In the alternate universe that you live in what happened to lincoln
if he was shot and survived (with no brain damage) it would probably serve as reignition of the civil war, no matter what Lincoln would do or say, the union would seek retribution for such terrorist acts, and south would build up a new confederacy which I doubt would live long and ultimately it would end shorter than the first. ultimately Lincoln's death made him a martyr to end the war and bring both sides together, the south felt like they lost the war but won the battle whereas the union knew they had lost the battle, but won the war... you get what i'm saying?
birdsqautch man that's a pretty interesting thought, but IDK what else the North could have taken from the South for retribution.

During the 1970’s the UN decided the best thing for earth is to have one government but not exactly at the same level as a regular country. instead they decided they are going to use a system similar to the US so now it goes global, federal, state, and then local government.
A rainbow flag doesn't represent every country. Although I liked your idea of United Countries of America
Yeah but your shitty utopia wont happen.

SGT SpiffyWiffy At the time of Boudica's revolt, things in Gaul were peaceful so there would've been no use for the Gallic Legions, they could be routed to Briton to reconquer the Isle.
David Hopwood
but what if the defeat inspired unrest in those areas and farther away like Spain or the troops moving away would give them the chance to start some trouble also i doubt the Iceni would not think that the Roman's wouldnt be back and would be much harder the attack the next time remember Rome failed to conquor Britain the first time but maybe the tribes would just start kill each other again and Rome wouldnt even have to try
+SGT SpiffyWiffy then Marius never gets to kill emperor Nero
The last point about the south being bitter I think is a bit too strong. Case in point, when JWB assassinated Lincoln, he wasn't exactly embraced by the defeated south. There was clear evidence that the South was warming up to Lincoln given his methodology of pushing for reconciliation between the two halves of the country. The funeral and national response to his his death showed that he might have had a window to advance that reconciliation. However, in the end I do agree that Jim Crow would have likely returned though maybe not as performatively violent. In the end that would have dampened Lincoln's legacy.
Nothing about Lincoln's greenbacks, which would have completely changed the US economy.
what would have been different with the building of the Transcontinental Railroad? it was a world - changing event, uniting East and West and changing travel time between them from several months to 7 -10 days.
Always entertaining to hark back to a time when the Democratic Party leaned to the right and the Republican Party to the left. #Realignment
Zack Z Meanwhile, other left-leaning countries like Canada, Norway, and Finland are all doing just fine.
Nice job. Interesting take that not much would change.
what if FDR lived for his final term?
Ry Cullen he would maybe run for a 5th term unless he does not
@@K.C.-Games idk I think after he died they added that amendment to the constitution saying a president can only serve two terms
InfernosReaper I wouldn’t be that optimistic
What if AlternateHistoryHub never existed?
At least Lincoln would live a longer life :)
I’m not sure how much longer I’ve heard that he most likely would not have lived much longer anyway because of a lot of health problems
Still waiting...
If you've read me comments on the last few videos you'd understand.
War is hell and when it's over it leaves a hell of a mess
They should make a movie about Abraham Lincoln surviving - with brain dammage
cody its 11 where I am go to sleep
+zach trausan It's 2 am for me
+AlternateHistoryHub same :D
+AlternateHistoryHub do not ask me my clock is messed up
It's 12 for me :)
It would be 6AM for me if I got here an hour ago.
So, the events were greater than any one person, no matter how great that person. Well thought out.
Person in the 1800s: I think black people should have rights.
Society: *I DIAGNOSE YOU WITH. R A D I C A L*
Good kind of radical. Now instead we have radical leftist idiots causing havoc on the streets and being more racist, discriminatory and intolerant than people most considered racist in last 30 years, its hysterical....
@@Kacpa2 You would have called the people advocating for black rights back then radical too. You'd be pro slavery. You're a sheep
You didnt talk about Lincoln's Plan to Recolonize Liberia. by sending the blacks there. It was an American Settlement in Africa in the 1800's.
Wow, and actual unbiased view on the Civil war. Would have been interesting if you had touched on Lincolns intention to deport freedmen.
I love how giving black people basic rights is "radical".
Still is. In this very video people are calling BLM radical
What if the royalists had won the english civil war
+dave epsin Good idea
+dave epsin Thanks
+dave epsin The The Queen would actually have power and authority instead of just being a figure head.
Looking back 8 years later, I realize now that we never really moved past the war
Republicans not being racist? Wow times have changed.
Shut up
Both party had switched their ideology in the 50's-60's
This is fucking stupid af
@@AshGamer007 they just switched? Why and how
Idk man, the only party I see that is wanting policy's based on race are the democrats
What is this? A video about the south and the north during the civil war that has only 76 (may rise) dislikes and 5,064 likes (may also rise)? Bravo AlternateHistory, Bravo.
Answer: he would've lived longer. End of video.
Abe was an overated president...
How?
+EndlessMike so many black ppl present him as their saviour when in reality Abe used them as cannon fodder
+MrConph123123123 not to mention he said if he could have won the war without freeing the slaves, he would have.
True.
what if lincon didn t get assasinated at all he just faked his death so black rights wouldn t matter
That shows a profoundly different attitude and possibility, though slim.
you say "cotton" like "codden"
Yes he does.
I wonder what you Mother looks like without any clothes.
#MotherOfGod, it's called #elision, and it is legit.
Funny how Democrats are now Republicans and Republicans are now Democrats
Capital-E yeah it basically switched 3 whole times
When did they "switch"? They didn't. The Dems supported Jim Crow laws and stirred up the race baiting with BLM.
