We are on a repositioning cruise now. And we love our sea days (which we think of as editing days!) we did the South Pacific last year and really loved the enrichment programs they brought on board when we had lots of sea days.
I love the reposition cruise because most of the passengers are matures or retirees, they are quieter, nicer , less noise than the young passengers. And things seems more relax on the reposition cruise.
Great topic, we've got a similar video coming soon, because repositioning cruises are the best way to cruise! It is easy (and tempting) to upgrade everything, but with a little self control cruising can offer a lot of perks over just flying someplace.
OK, you've convinced me. I'm definitely going to look into doing a repositioning cruise sometime in the near future. Thank you for debunking the myths and sharing how wonderful, and reasonably priced, a cruise like this can be. Look forward to your Australia videos. My plan is to be in Sydney for the 2025 New Year, so it will be nice to see how you bring in 2024 there!
Repo are the best! Our next one is a back2back2back in March/April 2024. It is a great way to relax and enjoy the different ships. Glad not too many people are fond of this 😁
Miss you guys. Just wanted to correct you on the longest you've been at sea. It was 7 days on our trans-pacific in April. Remember we got to cross the international date line and repeat a day. 😊
We miss you too! You're right! Nothing like the International Date line to mess up your day count. We're on our way across it going the other way where we lose a day.
Another great video! Thanks! We travel so similar to you it's amazing! Currently, we are on an 80 day sit in Winchester, UK. We arrived in Europe via a repositioning cruise in May and are now looking for one like you are taking to Australia. One odd question... like you, we pack very light with 2 bags (carry on and personal item/small backpack) and I noticed at the 3:55 mark there's a lovely picture of the two of you dressed for a formal night with Chris in a fancy dress and Steve in a jacket and tie. I've seen your packing video and can't imagine where there would be room for them. How are you carrying those? Have you found an actual Mary Poppins bag?!
Haha! Mary Poppins! That was a pic from one of our first repos. Twice now we've scouted goodwill stores the week prior a cruise and Steve has purchased a sports jacket, worn it, and donated it. I think his total investment in dinnerware has been $20. He got one jacket at a Mexican tinga for $1! Chris (me) does carry a casual dress with her regularly which she gussies up for formal nights. Our shoes (Keens/Tevas) get inappropriately worn. We don't do this for every cruise, but Steve does try to dress up as much as his current wardrobe will allow for formal nights. Otherwise, we skip them and go to the buffet. worn...
I'm looking forward to retiring or going part time to I can take these cruises. However, the last item, saying they are affordable per day is correct, but 3 days from a local port is less expensive than 14 days to a place that requires at least 1 long flight. Additionally I desire to stay a few days before or after, or both, when I do these cruises in the future.
The vast majority of cruises we take are repositioning cruises. We like the price, the longer cruises and the fact that we see some ports that ships usually do not go to.
Thanks for the info. Do you have a favorite cruise line? Some are very expensive and some seem to have marginal quality. I’ve never cruised so this is just my guess from other UA-cam videos.
Thank you. When we have the time, we'll pop into a Goodwill before a cruise and grab a sports coat and dress, then we'll donate it at the end. There's no room in the bag for Steve's jacket; Chris carries a casual dress with her.
Hi, I just discovered your video in my search for repositioning cruises. How long does it take to get off the ship with a ton of other people, especially when the port stay is maybe 8 hrs? Does that cut into your port time significantly? Thanks.
One day maybe. Surprisingly, didn't get motion sickness nearly as much as I thought. Like fiddle players. Like good value. My wife always looked for trips that provided good value.
TBH, I have never heard some of these myths but HAVE taken 54 cruises, including 3 “crossings” (not cruises as Queen Mary 2 enthusiasts remind us ad nauseam) across the Atlantic, 4 repositioning cruises across the Atlantic (Carnival Celebration, Norwegian Epic, Pacific Princess and Oceania Sirena and 2 trans-Pacific repositioning cruises on the Queen Victoria and another Princess cruise). There are several truths about repositioning cruises as well-e.g. there are few children on them, it tends to be an older, more travelled crowd NS the joy of changing time zones gradually cannot be overestimated. They tend to be in shoulder seasons, making for milder weather as well. See you soon to discuss all things nomadic!
Thanks for all the great tips! I've gone to Vacations to go but since I've NEVER cruised I have no idea how to find those cruises that are repositioning. Any advice for a newbie to find these deals?
If you look at the menus on Vacationstogo, there's an option for Repositioning. Also you can search by trans Atlantic or trans Pacific. But if you're new to cruising a long repositioning cruise may not be the place to start.
thanks! I did finally find it! Tucked away under the banner of "Our Specialties :where you choose "World". Then go to the left pull down of "World:" and find "Repositioning" @@EatWalkLearn
I want to do the same cruise, L.A. to Sydney with my wife and daughter, can you tell me is there much for kids to do during this type of cruise as I have a 11 yo daughter?? Is Princess or Royal Caribbean better??
I've done one repositioning cruise, and liked it, but I would be reluctant to spend that much time in an inside cabin. I knew a passenger who came down with covid on the ship (Celebrity Line) and was confined to her cabin for five days. That would be touch in inside cabin
While covid restrictions were pretty tight for the first year that ships were back and operational, they are no longer requiring masks, tests, or quarantining sick passengers. And when they were quarantining them, they were blocking off entire sections of the ship with balcony rooms, so the sick guests were moved from their rooms to the balcony rooms. (Some thought of it as a free upgrade!)
Your video was right on, but stop giving away the secret. I have taken several of these cruises and it is the ports that you can’t find anywhere else. Plus they can be great value.😊
The $4,000 airfare estimate is ridiculously overstated. A couple should easily be able to secure one-way West Coast to SYD airfare below $2,000 total for both. From your Seattle origin it would also be a lot better to fly out of SEA or YVR. I'm not saying the cruise is a bad deal, since it includes a month of room & board, but the airfare estimate makes me have less trust in your content.
I have family in QLD. A 1-way flight from LAX to SYD flying premium economy class will be around $2k-$2.2k per person. It will cost only $1k at most per person if you buy economy only (the lowest level tickets possible). So this UA-camr was being 100% honest.

Hm
I only wish they didn’t charge the insane internet rates.
@@WendyH10 Yeah, high rates for a service that barely works. We skip it and get SIM cards or look for wifi in the ports.

Lucky me just found your channel. Great videos. Awesome! Thank you!

Interesting video. Never been on a cruise and have no desire to do so on our world travels. Looks to me that if you like Reno, you will like cruising.

We tend to be on Princess because it goes when and where we want at a price we like.
Looking for feedback on a transatlantic cruise in March. Any feedback would be helpful.
What is your question?
Nice picture of the two of you at dinner. Do you add “fancy” clothes to your wardrobe for your sailings?

Sometimes the ships are near capacity, but we rarely have to wait getting on or off at ports.

What cruise line did you take?
We decided on the Princess Royal from Sydney to Japan.
Are there typically less people on these repositioning cruises? It would be nice to take a cruise that's not packed to the rim with people
Yes, generally that's been our experience
I want to do the same cruise, L.A. to Sydney with my wife and daughter, can you tell me is there much for kids to do during this type of cruise as I have a 11 yo daughter?? Is Princess or Royal Caribbean better??
There was a fun looking teen area. But since we don't have kids that age anymore, we really couldn't comment on either question. Sorry!
Inside cabin? No surprise there.
Thanks for your comment
Is it one way and then fly home?
Marie
Yes. At least that's how most people do it. A lot of people will get a package deal with the cruise line, bundling the airfare and the cruise together
If you are scared of bad sea sickness ask your doctor for a prescription for antivert
Thanks
Was the $4000 including the gratuities?
Yes. We use our onboard credits to pay tips.

Ha ha. Sorry for giving away the secret. We know it's not for everyone but perfect for us.
What cruise lines were your favorite so far?
We've ended up on princess the most, but I could easily be persuaded to have a different favorite.
Dutch Harbor
A beautiful place. Thanks
Granted, I am a reader, but boredom is a choice on land or sea.
True. But the cruise line makes it hard for anyone to get bored 😉
fantastic VERY interesting content, and you two are SO lovable! But the quality of the sound is just terrible!
