We love transatlantic trips. Days and days of quiet beach vacation, with no sand. Buy an analog watch and a clock for the room. Old fashioned with Hands are so much easier to reset, according to SHIP time, which is not necessarily the time our electronic devices want to give us. And we just figured out that a cruise, in an inside room, was going to be reasonable compared to the outrageous airfare. Eleven days at sea, no dishes to wash, no food bills, no beds to make, no clean up. Lots of books on Kindle, old magazines that I give away when done with them, and my sewing machine with many small quilting projects (and handwork so I can sit on deck). Heavenly.
I’m taking my first transatlantic cruise in April on Holland America. Last year I did their transpacific cruise from Sydney to Vancouver and it was fabulous. The activities included a crew talent show, crew cooking contest, free hula and ukulele lessons, great lectures and so many activities to choose from.
Took the Southern Atlantic Cruise on Viking just before Covid hit-- an almost three week journey and it was amazing. Barcelona, Morocco, Dakar, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina. Fantastic! Taking the mid-Atlantic cruise in a couple months. Not so many stops and less time,
Fun fact: “POSH” stands for Port Out Starboard Home from the early ocean liners leaving from England to New York and back - they didn’t have central heating and North Atlantic gets cold, so the best cabins had the most sun!
I did a Transatlantic Cruise on the Queen Mary (Cunard) and we never had big waves in fact it was completely smooth sailing the whole 7 days. I think that it depends on the time of year and weather. Just discovered your channels and Love them ! Very , very enjoyable
I am in Bmore and looking at a cruise like that in 2025 or 2026. Please post your experience. I hope you have an awesome time!!! Can you also post if you see many solo travelers on the transatlantic cruise?
Finally a channel which tells the entire story! I cannot tell how mnay of these I've watched, none will communicate the good/bad. Thank you for this very informative video as it will help me with making my transatlantic cruise plans.
We did a TA eastbound o Royal Caribbean 4 years ago and we absolutely loved it. Our cruise was in late April and the ocean was smooth as glass all the way across. We had a westbound booked on Viking for the next year, but then came Covid and it was cancelled. I think the time of year and route make a big difference in the ocean condition.
I agree that the ocean was as smooth as glass. We did the repositioning cruise from Tampa to Barcelona on RC Rhapsody of the Seas at the same time as your cruise.
I booked a thermal suite with my transatlantic crossing, the whirlpool, and hot tub was closed, except for 2 days. It was a waste of money for me. Everyone have the same idea, it was very crowded, with no stone bed available. Your other tips are great.
I just booked my first solo transatlantic on Symphony in March. The price was, as you said, surprisingly cheaper than a 7 night carribean cruise. Feel like the timing of your video was perfect. Thanks
We've been getting ready to get out and get cruising again. We need to plan a Transatlantic cruise especially since Dan doesn't like to fly. Ship lag! Add it to the lingo! Love it!

So glad to hear your ship was giving out treatment. Peace and happy travels!

Great video, thanks for the info.. We booked a TA on the ZUIDERDAM in May 2024, and the NIEUW STATENDAM in Nov 2024, so looking forward to both of them.
Im so glad I found your channel. I have a great fear of flying. I’ve missed a lot of opportunities to visit a lot of places due to this, especially in Europe. I was so excited about the transatlantic voyages u been sharing. I have a question, which months of the year would be better to sail, I mean when seas are not that rough . Thank u.
You guy's omitted a major, in my mind, con for taking a transatlantic cruise. The cost of getting back from your destination has to be considered. This often makes the transatlantic or repositioning cruise not such a great deal.
Fantastic info, my wife and I are taking a cruise from Canada to Hawaii. I’m assuming I will be experiencing some of the same issues. Great content I found you guys a couple days ago and I like your videos keep them coming.
Hey Rob & Aly! A Transatlantic cruise will need to wait for a bit. I will be doing the Mexican Rivera in November, and the Panama Canal in 2024. Would love to go Europe to NYC on a Transatlantic in 2025 if my budget allows! Gaining an additional weeks vacation in 2024 is going to help and allow me to travel a bit more. Easiest way to figure it out, is to look at a map of the ship. If the front of the ship is at the top, that would be the opposite of what you want. You want the map with the front of the ship at the bottom. The front of the ship should be pointed in the direction you want to travel. If it is down at the bottom, you would want rooms on the right side of the ship to be away from the sun.

On what ship did you cruise? (Pardon if I missed that). I understand that most ships have on board mechanics trained to handle most of the mechanical issues likely to be encountered, so I would think elevators would be in that category. A distant cousin of mine had such a job.
