There is a difference from being a tight wad, tight-fisted, and being frugal. Being frugal just means you set your priorities and spend your money on things that bring you joy…..like chocolate! Thanks for the pro/con video.
One “pro” I notice about you both-you turn a con into a pro. For example, no WiFi. First you acknowledge it is a con, then you turn it into a pro. Thank you for all you do. 🎉
I love that you play Scrabble! On my second date with my future husband. I went to his apartment for dinner and we played Scrabble. I almost beat him with an 11-letter word! I can't remember what it was now, but he was stunned because no one had ever gotten that close to winning over him because he was so super smart. LOL Needless to say that was one of the things that caused him to fall in love with me 😍 Sadly I lost him at a young age. He was a kind and wonderful husband and I'm sure that the both of you would have liked him. He was a real traveler as well
We are sure we would of all liked each other , we now play Waffle , Wordle and spelling bee after our morning ☕️ coffee funny how such simple things can bring such love in our lives 💕
This sounds perfect to me! Only been on one cruise. It was last year and I enjoyed the ship more than the ports. I read, I do Sudoku, I drink wine, if we can afford it. I would play scrabble if my husband could spell. ( he hates it). Looking for a repositioning cruise but can’t find one. Unless we fly to Southampton which is 1000.each from Winnipeg. I guess I should just keep looking! Love your video. Thank you!
We have done a transatlantic crossing on the Regal in 2016 and ended in north Germany where we spent two weeks post cruise. Best cruise ever. It’s great that princess has self serve laundry but now we have elite status we get free laundry. We are planning a crossing next October to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Thanks for sharing your trip.
I did a TA (Fort Lauderdale to Civitavecchia) on Celebrity Constellation in 2016 and really enjoyed it. I will be doing a TP (Honolulu to Sydney) in October on Celebrity Edge and am really looking forward to it. Our ports are in French Polynesia and New Zealand. If you want to cross the ocean to get from A to B and have the time, sailing is the way to go! These days it’s much more civilized than flying.
I couldn't travel that long on a cruise ship 🚢 without daily excursions. Enjoy. My favorite cruise line is Celebrity. Amazing 👏 food and service and beautiful balcony suites.
We always bring our travel Scrabble on cruises. It folds up like a scarf with a bag of tiles, so it fits on most any table in the lounges or buffets. Great way to meet new people with a friendly game.
Great video! Thanks for sharing your experience and expertise. Your pro of no transatlantic flight with jet lag was the reason I wanted to hear about your trip. My husband and I did a 7 hour flight (5pm departure to 6am arrival in CDG) this spring and we didn't get a wink of sleep. Breakfast in my room and afternoon tea sounds a lot better then being squeezed onto a plane and fed miniature mystery foods.
Nice to see y'all looking so relaxed and refreshed. I love trans cruises. All the sea days. I even skip excursions on some days to stay on ship. It's like truly being relaxed on vacation. And, I'm with Tina, nothing like a little bit of rough seas to rock you to sleep. And, tightfisted, tightwad, who cares, y'all are living the good life.
After I saw your last video, I checked out next years repositioning cruise and the one from April 4-28 looks amazing. We would add 8 days around the British Isles. I love the idea of 24 days of being in a 5 star hotel, no cooking and no laundry. The only real CON for us is the weather. British Isles would be cooler than spending a month in Portugal or Spain! Thanks for your rambling LOL. Rosie
I enjoyed this video. Happy to hear your perspective. We have considered a Transatlantic cruise. I told my husband I would rather be on a ship than a plane that is cramped and always seems to have someone kick the back of my seat! Cheers!
Your comment about Holland America reminds me of a cruise we took in 2022 from Spain to Portugal on AIDA (owned by Carnival). There was nothing to do, no room service, no food from 3-6pm, and no food after 9pm. We left the ship mid-cruise, and paid $2,500 for a week of hotels/food on Madeira island and in Lisbon, Portugal.
I had a group of friend do a 70 day south seas cruise for about $1000 per person! It was three weeks before. Food bought, crew hired and such- just fill the ship. Of course most of them signed up for another cruise at a more normal price upon departure.
I was reminded just yesterday why I so prefer a TA cruise to a TA flight: relaxation, comfort, time to think, meet people, talk. Sure, it only took 24 hours door to door flying home. But it's still to be determined when my bag is going to make it home. Good thing it wasn't packed with the chocolates!
We caught a repositioning cruise on QM2 back from NYC to Southampton, booked very last minute! We’d gone on a special 40th anniversary cruise on the same ship S’hampton to NYC 2 mths earlier. We did a 2 month driving tour of New England in the Fall. Then coming home decided that we didn’t want to get a flight ✈️ as planned, so we quickly checked where the ship was on its travels and luckily it was going to be in NYC in 5 days time so we booked it for 1/3rd of out outward journey and weirdly got the identical room!! We loved our time as we got all our laundry done and just chilled out at the end of a big trip.,
@@methemonkeyking yep we couldn’t believe it…. we took ‘any cabin’ so didn’t know until we got onto the ship at NYC …. we were laughing because we knew where everything was 😂
We took a very long cruise last year, Vancouver to Sydney Australia via Asia, and we had eight sea days from Dutch Harbour to Japan. This increased to ten days due to a typhoon and most on board were delighted! Too much food - a con for us. We started at 3 course dinner to just a bowl of soup by day the end 😂of the
We enjoyed this video. We just returned from a 14-day Asian cruise with Princess. The longest sea run, five days, was years ago from Hawaii to Canada, which did not appeal to me as it got progressively colder, eliminating sunning poolside. However, you are enticing me to consider a repositioning venture if it fits into a future plan. Cheers. Roger
I use Tru Earth laundry detergent sheets (baby style cause of sensitive skin). I just put a few in a zip lock plastic bag and pack them in my suitcase when traveling. If I suddenly break out, I can remove "caused by detergent" from the list.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Tru Earth is great! I use the detergent and fabric softener exclusively at home now. They get my clothes perfectly clean, they save a lot of space and they are perfect for travelling.
My last repositioning cruises were South Pacific .... Los Angeles to Sydney, and one was Vancouver to Sydney. All last minute deals and including Primier package and a wifi package
We take a cruise for the ship experience, not the ports, so sounds like our preferred kind of cruise. We are taking our first Princess cruise this June to Alaska for 14 days. This will also be our longest cruise. Not retired yet so about as long of a cruise we can take at the moment. We are looking forward to trying this afternoon tea thing on Princess that we've heard about but never experienced before. We like to feel like we are getting good value for our money.
Regal Princess was our first ever cruise and will always have a place in our heart. What a beautiful ship. Alfredo’s 🍕 and Vines 🍷 …what more could you want? 😝
You need to do full transit of the Panama Canal also tons of sea days I would suggest you do FLL to Vancouver or Lax to newYork unique itineraries and a different type of repositioning
You two are obviously totally relaxed and happy. Norm - you are frugal, not "tight fisted". Carry on Gang - you can't be old enough to remember them!. Very enjoyable post. Thanks!.
We just did a transatlantic leaving from Ft Lauderdale on April 14 arriving in Barcelona on April 27. Love a transatlantic for the exact reasons you give. Followed by 13 days in Spain and Portugal. Flying back to the US on Friday.
Maybe not this year as bookings are crazy, but a normal Pro of a reposition is that it’s less crowded. Cons are less entertaining variety and you are stranded if you get seriously ill.
Sixty years make a lot of difference. I´ve crossed de Atlantic, from Vigo (Galicia) to Santos (Brazil), in 1958. It has taken, for de Juan de Garay, 17 days. It was a second class ticket on a third class boat.
Hi Tina & Norm pleased you are having a great time good video I’m sure a lot of people will find all the tips very helpful. Take care Christopher Barker

You 2 do seem to live a charmed life, not at all jealous! I notice you mentioned Trans Pacific cruises. Do you know if any of these are cheap relocating cruises? And if so, from where to where and when? Don’t forget that, well travelled as you are, you have yet to tick the Gibraltar box 🇬🇮😉
Hi you two enjoying your vlogs. I Kano that you do not purchase the drinks and internet package. Could you let me know what the cost of gratuities are please. Thank you
What a great video, so informative and I took notes! Hopefully can go on this cruise in the future. Sounds really fantastic! I would love to visit all the places especially the Azores, I have visited Lisbon before but never by ship. Thank you
One thing we have found is that cruise ships always have plenty of food but lack SNACKS. We have learned to pack some snacks so as not to have to purchase these at the ship shops.
Wow!! 😮 Your cruise and ship sounds great, Norm & Tina! Frugal and fun! Way to go! I’m rethinking my hesitancy about cruising again… and now is the best time to sail the Atlantic, right? Oh I miss the gluttony!! mmm 😋 munchies. I would “overeat”, for sure. And flying these days is a pain in the neck anyway. Smooth sailing 🚢 🌴 🛟 🩴 Cheers! 🍻 sounds like all “pros” to me.
I’m with you Tina, I enjoy tea and scones, never had it at sea, but sounds delightful. On our Caribbean cruise we were always using the stairs, up and down, never used the the elevators. No fear of gaining those unneeded pounds. Food was a constant on the cruise, 24 hr availability in one restaurant. I can see people being tempted to overeat. A definite CON for me was the strong stink of cigarette smell in certain areas of the ship, coming from within the casino. I tried to avoid these spaces, due to allergies and asthma, but unsuccessfully. So sorry, Norm couldn’t find a Portugal T-shirt. We’ll need to do something about that. 🤷♀️ 😆 Take care! 😊
Love your video on the Princess Regal. We're all gratuities included. Did you have to tip your cabin Stewart when you had breakfast delivered and if so how much.
That is such a waste of water and energy changing the towels every day. So I went on the Princess site and I see they automatically charge gratuity every day, and it wasn't cheap. Can you decline it and just give at the end of your stay? That is how it was years ago on Royal Caribbean
Sounds wonderful- I hear more Pros overall! Just wondering if it was cooler during sea days? We did a cruise out of LA in April and it was very cool. Everyone was looking to buy hoodies in the shop which they hardly had anything, surprisingly on that RC ship they did not have a lot of shops.
Luvs this. We are behind you guys by a few years lol. I retired two years ago and been after my younger wife to pack it in too. I tell my wife the next time around I am marrying an older woman who will retire first so I can come home from work and the snow is shovelled, the lawn mowed, groceries picked up, supper cooked and house cleaned lol. You guys only have 16 days without cleaning. OMG … my wife has been on a two year and six day cruise now (me retired May 2 2022). Speaking of cleaning … going to Ottawa Saturday so it’s clean basement level today, main level tomorrow and upstairs on Friday. I have to get to Costco and mow the lawn too before I depart. Lol.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Yep hopefully by year end. She is going to Ottawa too but a bit later. She don’t have as many annual leave days as I do lol. Funny how you watch a few cruises and track prices. If price drops go for it. I say the same to my wife … once retired. We are now 8 hours closer to London. WestJet just put a seasonal three times a week direct flight from St. John’s to London. We can get there in just over five hours now. No need to fly to Toronto then back track over the province. Opens up last minute cruises out of Dover, Southampton and Amsterdam.

One thing we have found is that cruise ships always have plenty of food but lack SNACKS. We have learned to pack some snacks so as not to have to purchase these at the ship shops.
We pack Pringles chips and Twix way cheaper than the ship 🚢 Barbara 🍷🙂
Die with zero is a great book.
It is definitely thought provoking 🤔
Smooth sailing 🚢 🌴 🛟 🩴
Cheers! 🍻 sounds like all “pros” to me.
You should Eric we had a great time don’t be put off by a past experience we weren’t 🚢 as you say flying ✈️ is a pain Happy Tuesday 🍻🚢🙂
I so agree - Flying and airports are my least favorite aspect of travel. Really enjoy your videos!
It's making me wanting to go on a cruise now. I sometimes sail to Santander on the ferry and love it. Thanks for sharing ❤️😸
Thanks Lesley 🙂
Love these videos, guys. So informative and entertaining 👏. I'm moving closer and closer to going on a cruise!!!
Awesome! Thank you! we hope you try a cruise 🚢🙂
Glad you had a great cruise but I didn't notice the cost of the cruise.
$1,350 each
Thank you. 😀@@ThisIsOurRetirement
You guys are a delight. Do I remember that you grew up and married in the UK? Will you see family once arrive?
No family left in the UK
Comfortable cabin , endless food ! What could go wrong ?
Your diet 😂😂
This sounds wonderful. Can you give some tips of Where/How do i find these types of cruises? I've never travelled so this looks great,
Look at Expedia Cruise Ship Cruises and Vacations to go , then the cruise company website 🙂
Thanks for your insight on your cruise , lots of good information!😀
Our pleasure! 🙂
🤷♀️ 😆
Take care! 😊
Afternoon tea 🍵 with scones is wonderful on a cruise ship 🚢 Sam , have a lovely evening Cheers 🚢🙂
@@ThisIsOurRetirement did you end up getting a PD or Lisbon T-shirt when you were visiting? 😆
We got Norm a Lisboa T shirt when we were there for the day 🙂
Such a fun up.firing video guys loved it thanks Wendy 🇨🇦
Thank you 🙂
Of course that should have read a fun inspiring video !!! Oops 😬
Glad to see another video from you again!
Thank you Paulette 🙂
Really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. How close to the departure date did you book this cruise.
Thank you! we were two weeks before departure
Thank you. Did you book it directly through the Princess website or a 3rd party reseller?
I like this vid. Good insight.
Thank you for all your Wonderful Videos ❤
Glad you like them!
Love your video on the Princess Regal. We're all gratuities included. Did you have to tip your cabin Stewart when you had breakfast delivered and if so how much.
We tip extra when we get good service both Cabin Steward and room service 🙂
😂 The Carry On Gang! Loved those movies 😀
We loved the carry on movies!
That is such a waste of water and energy changing the towels every day. So I went on the Princess site and I see they automatically charge gratuity every day, and it wasn't cheap. Can you decline it and just give at the end of your stay? That is how it was years ago on Royal Caribbean
Yes you can change the gratuities and tip separately to Stewards , room service etc 🙂
No way am I a cruise person. One and done. Enjoy yours.
Very useful information in this video. Thanks!
Hello Norm. Do you have a separate channel for your "stock photography business"? 4:33 Have you done any videos regarding this sideline?
No he hasn’t we are thinking we might do one video about it not sure as it’s not really what our channel is about 🤔
Sounds wonderful- I hear more Pros overall! Just wondering if it was cooler during sea days? We did a cruise out of LA in April and it was very cool. Everyone was looking to buy hoodies in the shop which they hardly had anything, surprisingly on that RC ship they did not have a lot of shops.
Yes the sea days can be cool need to take sweaters and rain jackets just in case Cheers 🚢🙂
Formal dining is not so formal anymore. You're missing out. Plus, you tend to eat less and get to meet people.
We have done many formal dining room in the past and still like them 👍
Fun video Tina and Norm!
Thank you 🙂
April in the North Atlantic. I think Titanic. 😂😂😂
Afternoon Tea is DELICIOUS.
It really wasn’t bad at all 🌊🚢
Tina loves afternoon tea 🍵
Lol.
Wow you are really busy in your retirement Todd , need a plan to get your wife to join you Cheers 🙂🍻
