I feel like boxer as M.Bison, dictator as Balrog and claw as Vega probably makes the most logical sense, to be honest. M.Bison is obviously a reference to Mike Tyson and should be boxer, but Vega is an actual Spanish surname and makes way more sense for claw than Balrog imo. And the word Balrog in Tolkien's mythos means "powerful demon", which feels like it would fit dictator well. Feel like neither region gets it quite right.
Rolando Marrero the sprites are the same but indeed Street fighter 2´ on the Nec Pc Engine is more faithful to the arcade game in terms of background graphics and maybe animations than Street Fighter 2 on the snes
The distinction between "8-bit" and "16-bit" is all but irrelevant: the most sophisticated games machines of the time (home or arcade) relied on multiple processors and Co-processors to produce calculations/graphics /sound /game logic /inputs etc. Many arcade games, vastly superior to any of the contemporary hone consoles or home computers of the era, used ONLY 8-bit processors. And some capable arcade machines had 8-bit CPUs into the 1990s. A 16-bit processor means little, by itself. Just take a look at the first Macintosh computers. No color, minimal sound, so hardware sprites or scrolling etc. But a Motorola 68000 16/32-bit processor. Take it a step further, and add color, like the Atari ST. Same 68k CPU, no sprites or scrolling, outdated sound chip. And look at the action games on both systems. Both bested by an 8-bit NES for smooth, responsive 2-D/platformer action.
I think I have an answer. It's probably because the TG16 was already on it's death bed - if not pretty much dead already in the US. That was 1993 and already game companies at that point were thinking what to do next with the next generation consoles. Would it make much sense for the US TG16 to have a new "hit" game when they actually got limited amount of time left to still compete in the 16 bit market in the US before the next consoles get released? Also, if this game came out, there is no telling if it would sell much at all in the US, given the fact that the TG16 already had sub-par sales and couldn't hold much of a candle to the large sales of Sega or Nintendo in America. If released, that would have been a risk to do and likely a big financial failure if the game never sold well to expectations in the US. Probably a smart thing they never took that chance. On the other hand, I never understood why the Sega version of the Wiley Wars never came out in the US on cartridge but for that awful Sega Channel only.
@@bangerbangerbro Pretty much. Taking two years to release the system in the US after its Japanese release (much of which was spent redesigning the circuit boards to fit the pointlessly larger console case) really set it back from capturing a large enough market share before the competition came along, which had been a key to the PC Engine's success in Japan. (Indeed, it was the success of the PC Engine that ultimately prompted Nintendo to get to work on the Super Famicom/Super NES.)
I can remember looking at this pictures of this port in the back of EGM and GamePro and being so jealous cause N.A. did not have a version were you could play as bosses yet. Such a "no big deal"/DLC type of thing these days, but back then this game was everything.
Ordered this from Japan in the 90's. Played the hell out of it with my friend. the pc engine was a really powerfull machine on his own way... i mean, every pc engine game look really impressive, and NEC knew how to expand the machine in many ways (the 2mb ram cartridge for example), it´s pretty sad that the turbografx sold really poorly in the west and many of the most powerfull games stayed as japanese exclusives, and the PC FX was a complete joke
there ya go kids, this port proves that a lot of the 8-bit to 16-bit distinction was just worthless marketing, this 8-bit version exceeds what came out on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive
I remember EGM's Sushi X raving you could play this on a TurboExpress with a PC Engine converter, but I always wondered about the lack of buttons on the Express.
This was the most powerful and taxing game released for the PC Engine. It’s a whopping 20 megabit HueCard; whereas basically every other HueCard on the system only went up to 8 meg, making it almost as powerful as the Genesis release (it’s arguably better in some aspects). Because of this, the card itself is pretty chunky and juts out of the system, and can actually damage your console if you don’t take it out or put it in the right way. Pretty amazing marvel of technology
i had a turboduo but by the time this came out i had already bought it for the snes so it wasn't worth the import at the time.. after watching this i kinda wish i had.. the music i think sounds better, like the mix and arrangements are clearer or more distinctive..
It is proper 16-bit it runs off a 16-bit graphics chip with a 8-bit cpu and uses a 16-bit data bus. No one argues that the Dreamcast isn't 128-bit despite it only having a 64-bit cpu with a 128-bit data bus and 128-bit graphics chip it's just because this is a small console that never saw a release even in Europe especially the U.K.
Sherbert's World of Schlock So do you also class the Sega Dreamcast as only 32-bit despite Sega and most gamers claiming it to be 128-bit. Plus the graphics of the PC Engine are 16-bit due to the 16-bit gpu a fast 8 bit cpu would still out do a slower 16-bit one the graphics chip is the most important in my opinion.
is consider a 16 bit console..you need to check out the shooter ports of raiden and gradius and compare those with snes .versions...the pc engines slaps the snes ..no kidding... maybe the sound chip is not a par ...but the graphics it even looks more colorful than the snes
looks pretty much exactly the same as the snes, sprite work and everything. Soundtrack wise though i'd say snes is better, not to downplay how impressive it still is for this hardware.
The reason behind those inverted names was because M bison was in balrog's name and they fear they would had issues with mike tyson. So they changed them in the other regions for those reasons.

I have been comparing the Mega Drive, SNES & PC Engine versions for about a week now. I have changed my mind. At first I liked the Mega Drive port better than the other two but now I like the PC Engine port better than the Mega Drive and SNES port. Being that I am a True fan of the Arcade game.... The PC Engine doesn't lack totally in the music department (I like M.Bisons theme better on the PC Engine than the Mega Drive) and man I love how the Energy bar is just like the Arcade and I love how the You Win or You Lose flashes just like the Arcade. Now on the Mega Drive and SNES ports it does flash on the KO when someone energy goes down to a certain extent but it doesn't look like the Arcade or PC Engine version. Also the PC Engine version speeches are the closest to the Arcade and cleaner than both. Gameplay is good on all three versions. I know a lot of people dont like the music on the PC Engine version but its not that bad and some stages like M Bison are better than the Mega Drive. I have all three versions and I have to say I like the PC Engine version the best now (well as far as Champion Edition lol). It reminds me more of the Arcade version. The PC Engine version is also a very good looking game in RGB, maybe not as clear or sharp as the Mega Drive version but its nice and the added color always helped the PC Engine when battling the Mega Drive and SNES rather than hurt. I know one thing PC Engine always had the best looking RF and Composite image. RGB is good too but just not as good as the Mega Drive but SF2 is better on the PC Engine IMO now.
Can't knock his claw off in all three Street Fighter II renditions from the CPS1. Only from Super II & Super Turbo on could you knock off Vega/Balrog's claw.
Maybe I am in the minority with this opinion. Even though this looks impressive for the Turbo Graphix/PC Engine, the real drawback I can find here is the soundtrack. It sounds awful and very limited. To me, it makes the Game Boy version of Street Fighter comparable in the category of soundtrack, sadly enough to say.
You can even use the Avenue Pad 3. For anyone who's played this game on the PC Engine and actually used the Avenue Pad 3, what are the default controls? I was able to play this on a TurboGrafx-16 emulator, but I was only able to play with the format of the standard PC Engine controller and the Avenue Pad 6.
Sound still isn't perfect but this has to be the best home console port easily and I played all of them. Of course none of that mattered once emulators became a thing and you could play the real arcade original version on a desktop PC, but if Capcom had released this bad-ass port back in 1993 or 94 for the TG16 the kids would have gone insane. 🤣
Only released in Japan, where the PC Engine was a much more significant system than in North America. It was even more popular than the Mega Drive there, and was a solid number two in the generation behind only the Super Famicom.
It was never available because NEC told Turbo Technologies to only release the games "they thought would sell well", even if they really wouldn't, which is why people got Camp California instead of Street Fighter 2 for their TG-16.
I think it’s because the pc engine is a 16 bit machine but with an 8 bit sound chip it sounds the same for r type it’s sounds 8 but if you hear the snes version it sounds way better
I have to say that the Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive port of this game is the closest to the Arcade. For one the TG 16 and SNES versions music doesn't sound like the Arcade but the Genesis Mega Drive port does. The Genesis port also plays in Higher Resolution which gives it a closer look to the Arcade and has a fuller Screen than the TG 16 and SNES ports. The gameplay is also better on the Genesis/Mega Drive Version. Playing the TG 16 and Snes versions there are to many parts missing compared to the Genesis Version. Like the Intro Screen and things in the backgrounds. I espesially hate how the SNES version sounds it sounds like a MP3 version (very compressed and sped up) the music and the speeches. Also the TG 16 version's music always feels like your playing a computer version of Street Fighter 2 or something. The Music in the TG 16 version is not that good. Now many complain about the speech in the Genesis/ Mega Drive Version but it actually is not that bad and it is real analog audio uncompressed like the Arcade version. The TG 16 I give credit for having the closest speech to the Arcade Version, then it would be the Genesis/ Mega Drive Version and coming in 3rd would be the SNES Version (its different then the Arcade version (sounds like a MP3 sped up in an echo effect) which sounds bad in my opinion.
Same way you play the Genesis version with a three button controller. The PC Engine controller had four buttons counting the select and run buttons, and the run button (which lines up with buttons I & II) is used for weak attacks, while the select button switches between punches and kicks, much as the start button is used to switch on the Genesis three button controller. Or, also like the Genesis, you could buy a six button controller, which was introduced at the same time as this port. Came in real handy on the later Neo Geo ports as well.

I'd say that they tapped into every micrometer of the T16's GPU. It seriously is an amazing effort, looks better than the Genesis and SNES ports, well I know SNES didn't have the CE, they had TE, but it's a damn great effort to the dev team.
I much prefer the names in this version. They should be like this always. Makes much more sense
Stick with the Japanese versions, they keep this naming.
@@barleybap9528 true, also Bison/Vega is supposed to be thai and balrog sounds more thai than vega or bison.
It's almost better than the Genesis version. It's great.
it is better - the colors are better (256 colors on screen) and the voices are way better
Might be better than the SNES version! And the PC Engine came out in 1987!
@@RolandoMarreroPR No, I won't go that far.
Rolando Marrero the sprites are the same but indeed Street fighter 2´ on the Nec Pc Engine is more faithful to the arcade game in terms of background graphics and maybe animations than Street Fighter 2 on the snes

@YTCensorsMe Poop oh yeah, i never noticed about it

Awesome vid. I grew up playing street fighter games. Nice.
This looks incredible on NEC's 16-bit yes 16-bit wonder.
The CPU was 8-bit, the GPU was 16-bit!
is 16 no 8bit ..
@@xtremegold2950 cpu was 8 bit
Why did they not release this in the US? Surely it would have increased TG16 sales greatly. Unless the US version was already discontinued by then.
@@trevorsong3054 Alright then.
@YTCensorsMe Poop So basically it was just too close to death to try and revive?
Such a "no big deal"/DLC type of thing these days, but back then this game was everything.
this guy making the computer look like a joke no contest.😅
Ordered this from Japan in the 90's. Played the hell out of it with my friend. The SNES version of SSFII was the best at the time but I still preferred this game to the Genesis version, which I also owned. The TG-16 was a pretty fucking cool system. Too bad this system was marketed horribly and most of the really great games never saw releases here. Oh well, still had some amazing (underrated) games and I played the hell out of that system.

the pc engine was a really powerfull machine on his own way... i mean, every pc engine game look really impressive, and NEC knew how to expand the machine in many ways (the 2mb ram cartridge for example), it´s pretty sad that the turbografx sold really poorly in the west and many of the most powerfull games stayed as japanese exclusives, and the PC FX was a complete joke
Wow! This is way better than the SNES or Genesis versions.
From the point of sound looses allot compare to the snes version, other than that a great port.

This was really addictive.
It's hard to tell if the player just didn't know how to play, or if it was because some of the mechanics were missing from the port...
Wow, this version was totally uncensored! Even had the blood splatter on the "VS"!
16-bit quality graphics with 8-bit quality music. Voice samples are surprisingly clean though unlike Genesis version.
Muy buena version lástima no hubo una version de Super Stree Fighter 2 porque sería otro gran acierto.
there ya go kids, this port proves that a lot of the 8-bit to 16-bit distinction was just worthless marketing, this 8-bit version exceeds what came out on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive

This is actually 16-bit.

I remember EGM's Sushi X raving you could play this on a TurboExpress with a PC Engine converter, but I always wondered about the lack of buttons on the Express.
Better than Sega's Genesis/Mega Drive version.
Hold's its own against the proper 16-bit ports.
It is proper 16-bit it runs off a 16-bit graphics chip with a 8-bit cpu and uses a 16-bit data bus. No one argues that the Dreamcast isn't 128-bit despite it only having a 64-bit cpu with a 128-bit data bus and 128-bit graphics chip it's just because this is a small console that never saw a release even in Europe especially the U.K.
wizzgamer If the CPU isn't 16 bit, it's not a true 16-bit console.
Sherbert's World of Schlock So do you also class the Sega Dreamcast as only 32-bit despite Sega and most gamers claiming it to be 128-bit. Plus the graphics of the PC Engine are 16-bit due to the 16-bit gpu a fast 8 bit cpu would still out do a slower 16-bit one the graphics chip is the most important in my opinion.
wizzgamer The Dreamcast's main processor is a 32-bit CPU running a 32-bit operating system.
is consider a 16 bit console..you need to check out the shooter ports of raiden and gradius and compare those with snes .versions...the pc engines slaps the snes ..no kidding...
maybe the sound chip is not a par ...but the graphics it even looks more colorful than the snes

the ost sounds awesome
also the names of vega and balrog are supposed to be the other way around
Fajar Ramadhan this is japan version so in japan the names are inverted
iCeMaN tHe BeSt really? I see
Fajar Ramadhan Names in Japan:
Vega (spanish guy) is Balrog
Balrog (boxer) is M. Bison
M. Bison (last boss) is Vega
The reason behind those inverted names was because M bison was in balrog's name and they fear they would had issues with mike tyson. So they changed them in the other regions for those reasons.
@@TwesomE That and Capcom USA also felt that Vega was a bit too "wimpy" sounding for the supposed final boss, while they also thought Vega would be a better fit for who Balrog originally was too.
Far better all then the consoles of its time... buts it like it was black balled from going mainstream 🤷🏽♂️
Realley amazing this game 👍💘😍
Why is it in 4k in 480p
great port
That shouldn't get US release because it was a great Street Fighter Turbografx-16 and Mini
This is not a longplay, it is a Tool Assisted. The most ethical thing would be to write this in the description.
Is it possible to knock Balrog's mask and claw off in this version?
You could never knock his mask off, but I'm sure you could do so with the claw though.
This audio is... is... HORRIBLE

J'ai jamais entendu parler de cette console... À l'époque je connaissais la NES super NES la Master System et Megadrive....
Remind me the day I bought it :D
Better sound than the Genesis version
In your dreams..
What the hell, I never knew Street Fighter 2 was available for TurboGrafx !
Only released in Japan, where the PC Engine was a much more significant system than in North America. It was even more popular than the Mega Drive there, and was a solid number two in the generation behind only the Super Famicom.
It was never available because NEC told Turbo Technologies to only release the games "they thought would sell well", even if they really wouldn't, which is why people got Camp California instead of Street Fighter 2 for their TG-16.
vastly and surprisingly superior to the genesis version.
lightenddragon100 Really?
No.
Not in music.
snes too
why does this version use a different sound chip?
Wow the music sounds bad, considering all the great music this system produced, Legendary Axe 1 and 2, Bonks Adventure, Devil Crush, Air Zonk etc
Why is this tool assisted
17:03 …
Wasn't the PC engine an 8 bit console how comes this game was so perfectly adapted?
I don't notice any slow down like on snes
Powerfull pc engine!
How do you play this with a two button controller lol.
