  • Create art with your old clothes! In this DIY video, we will have fun with a frumpy old thrifted night gown. We will combine lots of fun techniques to create a one-of-a-kind boho duster. First, I walk you step by step through adding fabric inserts, to make garment larger and flowy. Then we make two sets of ruffles from flannel and a thrifted floral bedsheet. We will then go up to the kitchen and dye this piece apricot orange, on the stop top. Finally we add a fun collection of patches that are cut from various other thrifted materials. Voila', an eclectic and whimsical spring duster on a dime! Hope you enjoy!

    If you measure the sides of garment where you are putting in the godet instead of straight down the middle you'll get the right length. It's how I do it when I make bell bottom jeans.

  • @bonniebonnie7149
    @bonniebonnie7149 6 місяців тому +2

    The triangle stretches because the side edges are cut at an angle, similar to the bias, which is a 45 degree angle. Angled edges always stretch some. So that’s why. If you used pins and put the triangle piece on top, it might stretch less. Or you could stay stitch, a straight stitch along the side edges of the triangle, before you sew the edges to your gown. But it is not necessary because it’s beautiful as it is! Xox, Bonnie

    Sometimes i just go to a garage sale after church on a Sunday ... when they're trying to get rid of everything. Today i grabbed 13 clothing items knowing that i could add to them (as you've done here Traci), subtract from them (make a men's jacket smaller) or multiply them (by cutting them into pieces and using those in various projects). Altogether i paid $20. I can donate whatever i don't use. Enough math for a Sunday!
    Traci here's an idea I'm working on. I would really appreciate seeing you try it. I'd learn so much! I'm trying to make a 'shacket' out of a large flannel shirt. To add warmth and make the inside slippery so it's easier to put on over a long-sleeved shirt, i want to line it with a very lightweight polyester jacket or shirt.i think you could make that work more intuitively than i. Then of course I'll add patches or ruffles a la Traci 😊

When measuring triangles, i would have allowed for extra for length of hem of original robe and cut it on a slight curve. Definitely will try this, probably as gifts for daughter and granddaughter. Thanks!!!

    Hello, hello! first off...I'm shock by how cute this turned out with what you started with! You never cease to amaze me! I've been watching and collecting for several months now and finally have the courage to start my 1st project. It's hard for me to just flow w/o a known end product but I'm ready to jump off and just create. I have some questions about specific dying techniques. Is there a way to message you directly verses taking up space here in your comments? thank you for inspiring all of us!

    About the godet's, they become larger at the ends because of magic 😂😂
    Seriously, it corresponds to the angle of the original measuring of the circle, I just tried this with some paper cut from a circle. But who cares...excuse me tailors. I'm still trying to sew in a straight line.
    Beautiful as usual, Your magical creativity sings to us 🎉
