I drank daily (evenings/night) for almost 10 years, quit cold Turkey about 5 days ago. I made sure to cut down as much as possible in the days leading up to quitting but the overall withdrawals were pretty minor. I had increased anxiety and some audio hallucinations but no shaking, no sweating, nothing major thankfully.

My story: I was a binge drinker for 50 years. How did I stop drinking so easily? I skipped the counseling and anonymous platitudes. I went to my doctor. He gave me a choice of two remedies. The monthly injection of Vivitrol or the daily 50mg tablet of naltrexone. I took the tablets for 30 days to detox and almost immediately lost the cravings for beer. Losing the cravings was as easy as taking Motrin for muscle aches. Mark me safe from alcohol

I drank to get rid of anxiety and depression..
And then my lover Alcohol tried to kill me..
It took 6 slips and 6 visits to a detox too get one straight sober year.. I went into a church to pray and get in contact with God and attending AA Meetings
regularly and that in the end saw me throuh..
Some people don't like AA and that's OK..
whatever works for you is great.. don't knock things
until you try them.. I wasn't particularly religious and I'm still not religious buy it's working for me and that's all I need.. Good Luck One Day At A Time and God Bless...

When I went to detox, I went to an AA group to waste some time. The speaker was truly amazing. In just 20 minutes he sold me on it. God is whatever higher power you need him to be, hell just pray to the universe, or Mars, or.. whatever you believe. You are here because you understand you are not in control of this substance, you need to ask whatever you believe in to help."

I wish I could find more relatable advice on this subject. I don't know how I could ever drink enough to get tremors, disorientation, and vomiting. These descriptions always seem so extreme, which is tricky because it makes people tend to think they're not at risk if they aren't having extreme symptoms. I'd like to hear more about those more normal symptoms, like how to cope with anxiety.

Let me try to give you some advice. I have gone through many withdrawels where the mental aspect has been the major factor. 1. Know that its only temporary, this depression wont last more than a week for the most cases. 2 force yourself to do activities you normally enjoy. Watch a movie as was it your job, play a video game as was it your job to do so. Et etc. 3. Hot showers if you have a bath tub its ideal, the warm water does something to make that anxious feeling in your skin to go away. 4 stay 100% away from caffeine during withdrawel. 5. If you are the type that struggle with cravings, give your money and Credit card away to a trusted friend or family member so you have ZERO chance of getting alcohol during your withdrawel, having to battle these thoughts makes everything 10x worse.

I’m so scared. I don’t wanna do it all again go through the process and yet I don’t want my life to be like this. I’m slowly dying. It is doable and to be honest it felt like the huge intake of alcohol was part of the issue. I got a new job and needed to be sober so I did it in just 7 days, but the first few really sucked. I also had a time where I had 2 shots in the morning and felt fine all day. Its different for everyone and different every time. I hope you managed to sober up ^-^

Meant to say probability. The journey to sobriety may be terrifying but the end result of being present and aware is something I didn't think possible. Again it isn't all sunshine and unicorns but in the end life on life's terms is much better sober than loaded and much less injurious to yourself and those around you. The main thing is do it for yourself. And most definitely be willing to ask for help. Hope is just one step away.
