The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

RIP. What a legend. He may no longer be physically present, but his art will live on forever . . .
Very, very well said and I agree 110% ❤😔
Rimane nei nostri cuori e nelle nostre orecchie
Lost a good one 😞
Indeed!! RIP
The crooning must go on. I'll do my best. All devoted vocalists will. People must remember Mr.Bennett...
My dad worked for Columbia Records as an accountant. It must have been 1964 when Tony Bennett was in the office in Manhatten, and took some of the regular guys out for a drink. It was one of my father's glowing memories. Rest in peace, Tony.
Tony Bennett is/was a legend...
❤
My man, this is an incredible story. Cool as hell.
I love reading story like this. Just a testament of how great he was.
Just goes to show you how much of a normal guy he actually was, next to being this brilliant magnificent musical powerhouse!
He's the last one around from this era thank you Tony Bennett for the music.
And he just turned 95 years old.
And that is the truth
Very true :)
Jerry Lee Lewis is still alive too
Tony was my grandmas favorite singer
No auto tune, no midi, no computer trickery, no AI .... folks, this is what real singing talent sounded like. RIP Mr. Bennett
Sinatra always said Tony Bennett was the ultimate singers singer. You don’t get any higher praise than that.
RIP Mr Benedetto.
Serious Cred !!!
R.I.P. Tony Bennett 1926 - 2023
They don't make 'em like that anymore... 😢
@BobBlec Music today can't come close to what was.
@BobBlec but man he sure had a great run! Now he's up in Heaven crooning everyone! Can't wait to hear him live again! And the way the world is in 2024 I hope I get there sooner than later and leave a world destined to communism in the rear view....thanks again barry, george, klaus, bill, and all the rest of you sick bastards that ruined it all.
I could listen to him all day
One of the greatest Jazz and blues singers of a generation as gone to heaven, I'll never forget you Tony ❤🧡🙏
He could flat out sing
Crooner specifically
Sí, así es!!
I'm Japanese. My father staid at '60es in San Francisco for few years as a expat before I was born.
He had sing this so many times come back to Japan. He loved San Francisco and this song. I remember.
Thank you this channel and Tony.
One of the GREATEST interpreters of the Great American Songbook. An absolutely beautiful voice. Thank goodness we can always find his renditions of songs. Rest in peace, Mr. Bennett…🌹✨
He has always been my favorite singer because of the heart and soul he put into every song.
The journey is never finished because Heaven has a new voice that will resonate forever and ever. Amen
One of the greatest artists ever, singing just one of his signature songs. Tony was Frank Sinatra's favorite singer -- he was also my mom's. Mr. Benedetto, thank you for all the great music and love. You will be greatly missed. 💔
wow! Tony was Frank's favorite? Now that's HIGH praise. Mr. Sinatra was certainly not alone when it came to his admiration of Mr. Bennett.
Frank Sinatra at one time said that Tony Bennett was his favorite singer, but at least one other time he cited Nat King Cole as his favorite (or the greatest of all-time) singer! R.I.P Tony Bennett - you were definitely one of the greatest male vocalists of all-time!!!!
My parents also . That is why I get to love him and his music
Wow that really brought a tear to my eyes that STATEMENT you made
My mother and father met there after WW2. I was born there. My relatives are buried there. I miss the hills, Playland, the eucalyptus trees in the park, the cable cars. Everything. Soon, it will be my turn to come home. Thank you, Tony, for the memories. Rest in peace for all the joy you brought. 🙏
Your post is haunting.
@@verak66 Thank you. Life is so short....💔
@@nugget9245 Was only there once. Visiting nearby relatives. It's so lovely but sad, too
Amen, I grew up just south of San Francisco, and moved away after college. Everything you said just strikes a chord in my heart and makes me miss San Francisco. The fog, the cold wind from the ocean, Golden Gate park, the hills, cable cars, Giants baseball, the food, the neighborhoods, and the eucalyptus trees that were everywhere. There's nothing like it anywhere else.
I was born in 1966 and didn't appreciate this kind of music until I got a little older. Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra....these guys were the epidemy of cool.
Another legend gone. We will never forget you and your wonderful music! RIP.
Rest in eternal peace legend. Thank you for the magical masterpieces you've brought to this world.
I am truly grateful to have had the privilege to see Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Freddy Mercury and Paul McCartney all perform live.
wow, that is incredible memories, Very cool.
i hope that i have time machine, so that i can feel what you feel man 😅
Indeed. I saw Tony Bennett, Elvis, Tom Jones, Freddy Mercury, Alice Cooper, and many more…wonderful memories that can never be erased.
I've got early onset Alzheimer's and I'm 60 yrs old, love you X blessings from Glasgow X

Love you 💓
R.I.P Tony a true legend ,thanks for the music
The last of the old school great ones is gone -- what a life you had, Tony Bennett. Thanks for generations of songs, and for your generosity to new generations of singers and singer-song writers.
We lost three of the last great male vocalists in the last two and a half months - Harry Belafonte, Ed Ames and now, Tony Bennett. I think now we only have three left - Steve Lawrence, Jack Jones and Johnny Mathis. But sadly, Steve Lawrence is also suffering from Alzheimer's.
Hey, Wayne Newton is still goin strong!! Thx for mentioning Jack Jones, also going strong
RIP to a charmful genius, who also had wit and charisma off the stage. He may be gone, but his unmistakable voice and fantastic arrangements like these will forever remain part of our lives.
To the greatest legend ever lived, rest well Tony, you had a magical, smooth, soothing swag and a voice rich like butter. We'll never forget you. Rest well. 1926-2023.
❤👏❤ well said! And oh, so very very true! 🎙️🌹❤️😔
Today is the first anniversary of Tony Bennet's death. Rest in peace Tonny Bennett, thanks for your voice and legacy.

Been listening to him for 3 hours. I'm 74 & saw him on Ed Sullivan. I long for crooners of yesterday!
Bored to tears when my mother played her Tony Bennet records when I was a kid but as a septagenarian I realized how good he is .RIP Tony.Sincere condolences to the family.
It is NOT the "what" of singers say, but HOW they say it.
Maestro Bennett, sang/said it SO well.
The US will miss him madly.
He’ll be cherished by us San Franciscans for a very long time. ❤
Rest in Peace Tony. You are gone to us in body but believe you will be with us in devine spirit.🙏🙏🙏
Just an incredible/very likable talent. He had the warmest smile, kindest eyes and softest demeanor & boy could he sing.. One of the best there ever was. R.I.P Anthony...
He's singing this song to Mom now. Her favorite singer singing about her birthplace.
Rest In Paradise Tony!! Thank you for your wonderful music!!
RIP Tony Bennett! One of the greatest to ever grace the stage! He’ll never be forgotten!
the bird with the most beautiful song of all : The Uirapuru, whent it sings the entire Amazon forest is silent to hear it ! Tony Bennett, the whole world was silent !
The last of the silky crooners... Thank you Mr. Bennett for your gift of song. You now join the heavenly choir. Rest in peace 🕊️🕊️🤍🤍
The fact that this man has been performing since the 30s is absolutely amazing. He's definitely a legend and has been working nonstop since his beginnings like wow totally respect this artist.
Late 1940’s, actually.
Name the great songs he has recorded, I mean great songs, like Sinatra and Williams recorded.
@@googlefashists4986 Stranger in Paradise , and btw Sinatra called Bennett 'the greatest singer in the business' who cares he has less iconic songs, he has 70 albums and a dozen of them gold or platinum. , this genre of music just doesn't produce many mainstream hits, Sinatra is also mostly known for 'My Way' and a handful other songs, while he has produced hundreds of songs that all people (except hardocre fans) have forgotten

That is a very weak reply.
RIP, Mr. Bennett. You were loved by millions.
Tonny we love you everywhere. I was born in Nicaragua but I have family living in San Francisco. When they visited us in late 70s my mom put this tune. Those were years that nobody move to USA. Anyway due to Sandinistas we move to USA but no SF due earthquake. Anyway you will be part of my childhood when my mom put these LP in Managua and she to me feel in USA. I enjoy watching you with mom in Ravinia Festival in High Park, IL where we live.
So long, Tony Bennet.
Your voice will live forever in our hearts.
❤️❤️❤️
I was 7 in 1964. My family watched The Ed Sullivan Show. I probably saw most or even all of his TESS appearances "live." He is a part of the furniture of my life. I'll miss him!
How far San Fran has fallen, from the time it once deserved this tribute of a song. RIP, Mr. Bennent.
Takes me back to the 60s. When my Father was transferred to Japan, we sailed under the Golden Gate. Later, I drove over it when I was stationed at NSGA Skaggs Island. I later flew over it on my way to my new duty station on Guam.
I imagine this will get many views over the next few days.
Loved SanFran and you, Tony.❤
May our Lord’s Golden Light, brighter than any sun, shine on you, forever.
And I’ll see you there!👍
