I saw an old photo of my grandmother from 1930 era and i was talking to my mom about it and how grandma always seem to smile, no matter how much pain she was in or if she was sad... mom told me that she used to sing a song to her when she was young and she said the words to this beauitufl song..... my mother just sent this to me to actually hear the song that the lyrics my grandma used to say, came from. How beauitful!!! It brings tears but a smile to my face.

Sitting in a parking lot just feeling this song. Holidays are rough for me like many people.
I read a few comments about people being alone in this world, and I'm one of them.
I have a mother and a brother with his own family, but I won't be invited to the family gatherings, etc. I am divorced from what was an abusive marriage , no living children (my infant died years ago).
I always accepted the crumbs of attention that they gave me my entire life and tolerated all sorts of abuse, and when I finally get the courage to set my boundaries, and respect myself so that I could heal; they all turned from me; and just recently found out that they've been lying to others about why I'm not invited to family gatherings. I guess so that they don't look bad, I'm the scapegoat. I've heard of that, but now I am experiencing it. I've received worse treatment from them and others so it doesn't surprise me. I have my faith, so that keeps me in check, but I'm only human and the lyrics of this song just hit different in my case, because that's all you can do sometimes, is just smile. Please be kind to each other because you truly don't know what they are dealing with and it's become such a cold world.

What a gorgeous voice! It tugs at my heart, even now. Nat smoked a lot and unfortunately ended up with lung cancer at a relatively young age. He died in the late '50s or early '60s.
I can still see the television message he recorded for the youths of that time, encouraging them not to smoke, because of what happened to him. He was dying at that time, and to offer such advice at a time like that, in the dreadful condition he was in, was truly heroic. An American hero. RIP Nat.

Back in 1991 I watched DAYS of our Lives and my favorite character was Jack Deveraux, and was a big shipper of his romance with Jennifer Horton. They were going through a rough time and he got into a sham marriage. When Jennifer found him with his "wife" the music director had this as background and then used it again for them and two other couples for a final scene musical montage. It was the first time I heard it and loved it. Thanks to my mother I was already a fan of Nat King Cole.

My grandpa came into my dream last night after nearly a decade that he didn't come. He was a renowned Thai composer who was in the pioneering scene of playing jazz and standards. Today I'm listening to this song and I'm thinking about both my father who is a fan of Nat King Cole and so was my grandfather who was a great pianist too. I love to sing many of Nat's songs as I resonate with his storytelling style, and the calming but sophisticated tone.

Smile though your heart is aching
    Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
    Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through
    For you
Light up your face with gladness
    Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear maybe ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile- what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worth while
    If you just smile
