- This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. When news reports show the arrest of a human trafficker and their victims finding freedom in the United States, Americans ask, “How did that happen?” Catalleya, through their own story, will demystify the silent trade of young people in our own backyard and challenge society to find one way to respond to the problem.
Catalleya Storm is a junior at Wright State University studying political science and business management and aspires to further study law and criminal justice. A human-trafficking survivor, Catalleya focuses their passion on abolishing human trafficking in their lifetime. Catalleya is the founder and president of the student organization Generation Freedom Makers to raise awareness among Ohio's universities. As a writer, philanthropist, survivor and abolitionist, Catalleya strives to educate and inspire others to create brighter present and future.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. This was such an amazing and powerful talk. I also used to believe trafficking didn't occur where I live, and that I'm not at risk, but I know better now. My sister was trafficked at the age of 13. They used me, her younger sister, against her. Telling her they would rape and kill me if she didn't comply. The men were between 20 and 35 years old, and she got pregnant 2 times, but aborted them in silence. Luckily she got out of it a few months later when the guy who sold her got bored with her, but at that time she had already endured so much.
I had no idea this was going on until 10 years later. I remember her being rebellious and skipping school at that time, but everyone, including me, thought that was just "typical teenage behavior". I wonder if this could have been prevented if we just talked about trafficking more. Maybe we would have seen the signs, or maybe the doctors who gave her the abortion pills would have asked more questions. We need to talk about this, it's so important that we do. Everyone needs to see this video.
I'm sorry about what happened to your sister, and I'm glad she got out. Yes, education is key to getting more information about prevention to others.
" Traffickers build on silence" That is exactly right. This is true with every form of abuse, especially against children. It's not polite conversation to talk about it, and it will deaden a conversation really fast. No one wants to hear about it. Even those who care, don't know how to help. I am still trying to figure out what to do, other then spreading awareness.
This was a very brave and courageous talk!
Communication is key.
I am survivor.
This was the most powerful talk of the day. By the end I was in tears. Catalleya is an amazing speaker and I hope they are able to continue spreading their message because it is one that needs to be heard!
Thank you for your bravery, Catalleya Storm.
this is the most amazing talk of the event.
Thank you for being so brave and caring so much for this to stop. Let's talk about this reality to bring light to this darkness.
Beautiful brave soul. This is a topic I've been ignoring for years, but I can no longer turn away and pretend it's someone else's problem. My friends are not enjoying that I am speaking about it as much as I am....but I totally agree that it will not end until everyone is willing and able to admit the extent to which it happens. I want to do more....I don't really know what I will do ..for now I'm just refusing to add to the silence that shrouds it. It's not much...but it's a start
You break the silence you break their power.
Mar M DOG🔍😏😏🤦♀️ ♻️🖕😘
its amazing what we can achieve if we spread the knowledge
Yes! Knowledge is key, and that is what I hope I spread with my talk! Thanks for watching!
That thing with making ppl stand was so awsome!
Thank you! I'm glad it got the point across.
Amazing delivery on this topic. We must all look out for the signs and help, step in NOW! 🙏
A powerful courageous talk, really brings it home, as does each similar talk. Each bit of information, each insight from these talks makes it a little more possible for each one of us to pick up on situations involving trafficking when we come across them. The law as such is laughable, the power rests with the people.
I'm warning all teenagers to watch there surroundings especially at parties and bars but this happens everywhere I'm lucky I survived 💯
Such a brave young soul. Bless you for speaking up.
She is a brave, young, beautiful warrior.
God bless you! Beautiful young lady. Beautiful soul!
What a wonderful speech, we must stop trafficking
This is a powerful video ive listened.
Michigan is # 2 in the list for the highest human trafficking rates next to Las Vegas in 2019 yet people still have this mindset like it's not happening.
Oh God bless you and keep you!
Thank you! I'm going on 6 years of freedom in March.
Wow! Thank you for sharing your story and helping us be more aware.
You welcome, I hope it helped!
Dayton such an unserious city💀
Thanks Catalleya - We need to educate each other on this. Be awake and make our societies safe and prostitution free.
No problem! Education is key. I think also having an understanding of what prostitution is and what it isn't. Also, an understanding of what human trafficking is and ways to keep it from happening, but also what sex work is and what leads to people needing to engage in sex work for survival.
I was a victim of trafficking 3times and family involved God saved me and still not safe from him but the feds are watching my area and police surveilance 👮🚓 thanks to the good officers that care ♥️
Im definitely not going to be quiet about being enticed into it ... that's for sure.
WHY Dosn't the Newsmedia speak up/focus on thing's like this????.... :(
Traffickers own it
She’s good! Loved this ❤️❤️
I keep hearing this 13 years old or 15 years old figure. The MK Ultra people in the worldwide ring like them at 2 or 3. TRANCEformation of America by Cathy O Brien, and Thanks for the memories by Bryce Taylor AKA Sue Ford. These are horrifying stories. ANd the ring is HUGE.
she's so smart
Shit, this is so powerful
Warrior
u got an amazing voice
Thank you!
@@CatalleyaStorm You are awesome! Lots of Love!
Thank you so much!! I see no victim here...
Yep! I am a survivor/overcomer!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I pray karma get these people.
I will never forget the knife at my throat and duck tape on my face. The man that I have been with for thirty three years initiated a gang rape for reasons I will never know. my guess is to mark me as property to make sure no one will ever want me. In other words "Damaged"
33 years?!
I heard Ohio has a huge human trafficking ring is that true?
📣
I was kidnapped while sleeping in my apt fought knocked out didn't know I was taken 61dsys starved trafficked 10days then harmed I believe at the jersy shore at the docks then put in the resavoir where there was a fisherman did he see me I don't know but I know God saved me 👼👼🏿💯⭐🌠 a miracle child earth angel 😇 so special God is ♥️🕊️💋
U look great gurl
Does peace relate with human trafficking?
I would love to know what you are meaning by this question. I believe peace relates to everything, but am not sure what you are talking about in this topic, however.
Those 6 dislikes are traffickers.
But I don't understand that indian combodian part....
if there where no tricks there would be no pimps or hoes stop going after the wrong people
