OMG THANK YOU!!!! I am trying to do on my own since I lost my brother (who used to do it for me). This was very helpful. Lets see how this turns out. Crossing my fingers.
Nancy S. Macario You will do just fine Nancy just one thing before taking oil filter off get a Phillips screwdriver make a hole @ bottom of oil filter let it drip for 5 minutes then take it off a bit less messy n while you put it back not so tight like he did, wash your hands so they won’t be slippery tight the oil filter by hand after you can’t then use the wrench but for 3/4 of a turn more ok sorry about your lost any questions please reach out ok
Sorry for your loss.
Nancy I have faith in you, I think you'll do just fine and I know your brother will be proud of you☺ I'm about to do mine too
May the lord rest his soul! You just gotta give it a little elbow grease lol I’m sure you will do fine
Make sure you don't use cooking oil lol
Been debating doing this myself or having it done at a shop. This sealed the deal for me. Easiest oil change I have ever seen. Thanks for the walkthrough!
Yes it's not difficult. Just have all the tools ready and safety first.
A couple things for beginners, when you first are draining the oil, remove the oil cap in the engine bay to create a smoother flow of oil to drain when you unscrew the bolt under the pan and when you are done with the oil change all together. Call a nearby auto zone or other auto parts store and ask if they will take the oil you just changed out. This way, you don’t have to have oil just sitting around in your garage.
Or look for someone who uses waste oil for heating.

Perfect tutorial. I just followed it to finish my first DIY oil change. Thank you very much!
Cool, thanks for sharing your experience!
Bro called a oil change diy if you aren’t doing it yourself you a bitch
Excellent video! You even covered how to reset the oil maintenance reminder- added bonus!
About to try changing my oil myself on my 09 honda and this was a great video. Thanks.
Your undercarriage is pristine, I can tell you live in a warm climate!
Thanks for the video. It is right too the point. Good information. Now off to give my 2010 accord a change. First one with this car. They have been free up to this point and know here we are. Confident in my abilities to get the job done with this well informed video. Thanks again from Iowa.
Glad my video was helpful for you. Cheers!
i want to ask the question. my honda accord 2009 had run 120000 km what engine oil will you recommend ? i usually use castrol 5 30.
Use the oil type recommended by the manufacturer. You can switch to full synthetic if you want.
You shouldn't put the oil filter back on with a wrench way to tight
Hand tight is good 👍
juiced71 that’s true. I mentioned that when I did mine
.oh so its okay if i just tighten it with my hand?
I agree. I've changed oil for 40 yrs. Wrench off and hand tight.
The service manual says to tighten it to 8 lbs of torque. That's just hand tight.
Thanks
“Oil drain bolt torque spec 29 ft lbs.” Smacks ratchet a couple times...perfect.
Lol I noticed that.
Lame
Thank you! This is very helpful as I'm doing my first oil change on my '09 Accord and hope all goes well 😀!
Good luck getting that oil filter off next oil change !!!
Literally just had to jam a screwdriver through it and twist it off that way....smh
Never use additional torque multiplying device to tighten an oil filter, hand tighten only. Good video
I'm getting some oil burn after long drives but I check often it's a boutique 1 quart low at times but it drives very well and has some kick genuine honda quality 👍
Excellent video!!
I’m a noob but you’ve made this super super simple
Can you do the rear backup camera install on 2008 - 2012 Honda accord
Thank you so much for your video guys like you safe people so much money by showing them the easy way to maintenance the cars instead of taking it to a shop and charging you a lot of money thank you
Keep up the great videos man! Love videos where the guy gets straight to the point
Hah.. just bought the exact same oil and filter to do my first change on new (used) 08 accord and wanted to see what's up before I get into it. Cheers mate.
Thanks, nice to know what to expect. Filters often list a tightening sequence on them. This is frequently 3/4 turn from where the gasket makes contact.
Yea over tighten crack cause some issues also harder to remove later
Can cause
Maybe break seal not crack
You can use 0w-20 or 5w-20 on this engine. Both are good. You usually use 0w-20 in the winter and 5w-20 in the summer.
Just bought a 2012 and your video was VERY helpful.
Man I missed this car. Had a 2011 until it was totaled. Everything except for the oil and filters were factory until it was totaled at 70k miles.
What ya driving now?

You had B14 service. Did you just do oil change or you did all other services as well?
I like your video. please can you show me how to add brake fluid oil I have a Honda Accord car 2019
Thank you for your contribution. Is it not necessary to fill the filter with oil before screwing it on?
Not necessary. Factory doesn't do it, you don't need to do it.
It's not necessary. Just much better for your engine. But the author is too full of himself to agree.
Just smearing a finger dip of oil round the top of filter mate not filling it
Yes it'll prime the engine so your not running dry at first and it'll create a better deal! There's so much wrong with this video, ALWAYS hand tighten the oil filter never use a ratchet.
Seal not deal*
Where did you buy those ramps? I have a 09 Accord and I am having trouble finding the ones that are low enough. Thanks!
I got mine long time ago at Walmart. They now sell the Rhino ramps like this one here: amzn.to/2G6bM93
@@dial2fast Thanks!
Now wiper blades are a real ball buster for me since they do them for free at store and the plastic clips can break if done wrong but I will give it a go
Good video, how much are those ramps $ and what cars can you used them on? Thx

Great video! I like that tool that attaches to your wrench. I'm going to get one for my Honda.
What is it ? And where to buy?
Appreciate you made this for beginners.
Hand tighten filter and then 1/4 turn that works.
Thanks for the video but why not use full synthetic? I use 5w30 as it's a better lubricant than 5w20
Honda recommends 5w20. It's right there on the oil cap.
Use the 5w30 if you want to have oil pump issues in the future!
It was nice of honda to leave an extra .8 quarts in the jug for when it inevitably burns oil between oil changes
Your fault for not doing your dd and buying a $80 vcm tuner
Mine burns no oil.
Simple and efficient.
I own a 2009 accord with i4 2.4L for a month now. Engine cap says 5w20 but my mech uses 0w20 for it. Although it runs fine and smooth but just curious if that's okay
It's fine but the engine does not require that type of synthetic oil. You should always follow what the manufacturer recommends. They designed that engine. Also the shop can make a little bit of money putting in synthetic.
Use 0w-20 in winter , use 5W-30 or 10w-30 in summer ,this is better way to protect engine
Can you use synthetic oil?
I just got my 2010 Honda Accord 4 cylinder, the shop put in 5w-20 , can i switch to synthetic oil since my car has over 220k miles. It runs fine but just curious if it helps due to high mileage, i also use seafoam in my gas tank every 1k miles to help, I even read you can out it in with the oil to help clean oit the gunk.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Always use the recommended oil that's for your car. Car manufacturers spend millions designing the engine to work with a specific oil. For you to switch to synthetic will not gain anything. The key with ALL cars is do the oil change every 5k miles with the recommended oil (hopefully you do this since it's new). Your engine will not build sludge and last a very long time.
@@dial2fast it's a 2010 model with 221k miles
It’s actually safe to add the entire 5 quarts of oil when doing this. Reason being, this generation accord with the 4 cylinder has a huge oil burning problem, you’ll burn a quart in 1,000 miles. So you’ll be at the normal level 😂
Not
Bad info. If you lose that much oil in 1000 miles something is wrong. Those engines were some of the best ever produced by Honda. 2.4L. Try changing your pcv valve if over 100k. Only use a Honda pcv valve. May help.
@@bryanhoedt4424 oem honda PcV change did nothing for me. Car has 198,000 currently, original engine, piston rings never repaired, still burning the same amount and guess what? Zero issues with misfiring, idling, acceleration etc, car drives amazing.
Dear when i put 4.2us quart my stick shows oil above the high dot. I changed filter as well.. And one time i flushef my engine but stilll.. I think its bcz of vtc actuator not holding up the oil on timing chain
Should I drain some oil out if I put the whole 5quart gallon into the engine after I ran it for a bit already and it only take alittle more than 4 quarts?
Yes! Most definitely!
I heard adding oil to the filter is good before one puts the oil filter back on?
All I can say is the car manufacturer that design, engineer, produces these engines does not do that. Another way of looking at it is try to find someone that can show an engine was damaged because they didn't fill the filter with oil before installing it. Good luck!
You will want to do it if your vehicle has a turbocharger.
@@dial2fastWith the oil filter in the vertical position like on this engine, it just makes common sense to fill the filter when installing it ...
When you start thst engine it has to run with NO oil pressure for a few seconds until the oil pump fills the filter ...
Just think about it ...
You heard correctly.
Looks so much easier to get to than other cars.
Thanks for your Informative vid on Honda Accord Oil Change.
Love you vids! Even though I don't own a Honda Accord 😂👍👍👍

Hello, I have a Honda Akord 2009, sometimes when I'm gone
Is it blurred at the _R_ and the blows can be blamed here especially when the engine is hot
aCcoRD
Hello, a question, when you check the oil level, the car still is up in the ramp? Thank you
+jmmusic231 No, took it off the ramp after the first oil full up. It was checked after it came off the ramps.
dial2fast ok,thank you
Do you have to use oil filtration wrench all the time? Will you be able to take it off by hand?
You can tighten it by hand, but make sure you turn it until it's completely tight so oil don't leak.
@@dial2fast what about taking it off to actually change it? Can I take it off by hand then as well?
To make removal easier, use a filter wrench. After the filter is used and heat cycled several thousand miles, it might be on pretty tight.
If you do the reset maintenance reminder steps you show in the video without changing the oil, would it reset to 100% if in fact it was not?
Yes it will still reset to 100% even with sane old oil in it. The car will think new oil has been added. Don’t know why you would want to do that but you definitely can.
@@youaregoingtolovethis Thanks, was just wondering how it works. Appreciate the reply.
Hey. Thanks for the video. I own the same exact car 2010 Honda Accord Lx 4 cylinder engine. Right now the car has 65,000miles. I am thinking to change the oil to full synthetic. I went to Honda Dealership to buy 5W-20 Oil. They said they don’t make it but I can use 0W-20 Oil instead. I bought the oil 0W-20 but not sure if I should change the velocity of the oil or not. Help!
If it's a 4cyl 2.4 use a FULL SYNTHETIC 5W20 if you want your car to last longer and run smoother. It's a huge difference in the cars lifespan if you use full synthetic
And don't buy oil at dealership man just go to AutoZone or orielly or any auto store. Tell them your make and model and they'll guide you if you don't know.
@@globalprofits101 And Costco sells their 2-pack of 5 quart Kirkland full syn for about $35 (sometimes less when on sale). Heck of a deal.
Been using Walmart/Supertech oil for 20 years. $19 a jug and full synthetic every 5000 miles. Fine for typical use.
Thanks bud! Enjoyed the video. Keep it up
You explained the car you were working on need 0w20 oil but why did you use 5w 20 instead?
No, this car uses 5W20, but I mentioned the Accord has another that uses 0W20, so check your owners manual.
Wow man. Great video.
Thanks a lot my man this helped alot
Great video! Many thanks
I dont speak english well, but i would like to know what kind of oil do you recomended me, to use in my 2009 Accord with 110, 000 km (i don know how many miles are) the engine is very very good
Use the oil that's specified in your owners manual. Change the oil following the mileage interval in the owners manual.
Does it matter if I use a honda genuine oil?
I filled the oil filter too. Is that bad?
I don’t have a oil cylinder wrench. is it a problem if I use my hands
You can tighten by hand but make sure it's very tight (by hand)
Thanks bro you really helped
Thanks for the video.
Great tutorial bro
What do I do with the extra good oil
Should I be using a synthetic blend or full synthetic?
This guy has no idea what oil to use , just look what he dumped in his engine...
If this is your first or maybe the second oil change , then yes use the full synthetic !
If the engine has 50K or more on the regular 5W30 oil , i wouldn't change over to the synthetic !
If you do your just asking for oil leaks on the engine !
The synthetic oil WILL end up on the driveway....
@@shobud7561 haha there's no issue switching over to synthetic as long as the engine has been taken care of prior to the switch.
You not suppose to use the filter wrench to tighten the filter and you didn’t even lube the o ring on the filter
3:06
You lost credibility with me when you said to stop tightening the oil filter until it stops, AND you were using a wrench! NO ONE does that... Hand tighten only people!!!
215k subs and nearly 350k views on this video. His credibility seems to be just fine.
@@mikeygrizz23 The fact you let stats dictate your thought process tells me tons. Social Media is not a FACT base. Its a trophy giving feel good platform, there are useful info on them but not always. Like this guy. You can disagree all you want but statistics do NOT replace facts!

Why wouldn't you punch a hole in the bottom of the filter to allow the oil to drain out nice and clean?
And why wouldn't you add oil to the new filter, given its orientation?
Because I am showing the correct way to do an oil change.
@@dial2fast then you're just a mediocre "mechanic". I was willing to overlook you using a wrench to tighten the oil filter, but then I noticed not warming up the engine to get the oil warm, not removing the oil filler cap _before_ draining, not filling thug oil filter, the list goes on and on. You could stand to learn a few things, starting with humility.
Very good video. Very good video. Thank you sir
If using ramps is it necessary to use jacks just in case
+Jose Murcia Not necessary
What do you call these plastic things to lift your car?
They are called “ramps”. In the video, they are a plastic composite, but there are also metal ones available too.
Hello! Question... Why are you using 5w20 instead of 0w20 recommended? Thanks
Pex Man There are two engines that he mentions in the beginning of the video. One requires 0w20 the other is 5w30. His being the later.
Thank you so much father, God bless you!
The J series and K series engines are the easy to replace.
Nice clean job. Thanks
Where did you get those roll on jack stands ?
I think you are referring to the ramps. Here is one amzn.to/2G6bM93

Detailed information. thank you so much :-)
You should've filled the new oil filter with oil before putting it on. If you don't it'll cause an air pocket in your filter. Making it hard for oil to go in the filter
All I can say is don't believe everything you see or read on the internet. At the end of the day, everyone can do whatever they want to their car.
@@dial2fast 🤦♀️
Nah, not needed, especially for these tiny filters.
And that's the correct way of doing it yes. The filter should be primed with oil, so it's in the same exact state as the old one, keeping both the oil volume the same and avoiding the air pocket.
Don't ever use a filter wrench to tighten it hand tight only.
Can I take it off without a wrench?
I'm pretty sure there is an o-ring between the drain plug washer and the drain hole itself
I could be wrong but idk that's my 2 cents
There is only one metal washer on that drain bolt. Same for all Honda.
Hay u did not tell them to put oil in the filler before they put it in the car. I seen people start their car n it started tapping. It there goes on straight up they need to put oil in it. Why make a video if u not showing them everything n they could damage there car. THANKS 4 THE VIDEO
Because that is something you don't need to do and it's unnecessary. The manufacturer (who designed the engine) don't do it that way. I would love to see where are all those millions of damaged engines.
Hand tight the drain plug and filter people. Just bought an 08 accord I had to swap out the oil pan because whoever did the oil change last decided the drain plug needed to be over torqued.
100% completion route
Great job
Dump oil with engine warmed up...never over tighten drain plug! ...never use filter wrench to install filter! ....that Fram is junk, get a Napa 7356 or Wix 57356, they are both identical inside/both made by Wix, same excellent filtration. Pay a little more ($10) your engine is worth it!
Take the filter out when the pan is dry, then remove the drain bolt. Less mess since the pan is dry, and oil will not splash everywhere when the old filter comes down
I dump the whole 5 quarts in never had an issue. Car has 160k now doesn’t even burn a quart.
me too
Is your car a 2008?

All Honda are pretty much the same.
Too easyyyyy but gotta buy the pan to catch oil, the ramp and the oil filter wrench adapter :(
