- Pat Metheny has unveiled the latest chapter in his wildly prolific career -Side-Eye, a new setting featuring the 20-time GRAMMY winner accompanied by a handpicked and rotating cast of players featuring some of the most exciting and innovative new musicians on the New York scene.

Recorded just before the pandemic, Side-Eye - NYC (V1- IV) deftly balances a mix of stunning new originals with inventive reworkings of some of Metheny’s most beloved compositions such as “Timeline,” which originally featured Metheny performing with fellow icons Michael Brecker and Elvin Jones. Now bringing that same unmistakable spirit to a new crop of players who grew up with his music as a part of their musical heritage, Metheny’s Side-Eye seamlessly flows in his usual genre-defying way from post-organ-trio grooves to expansive mini-suite forms to simply Metheny at his most rocking.

#PatMetheny
I'm learning bright size life. I'm 14 and I love jazz!
Excellent choice! The downside is, you'll forever be annoyed by the constant bombardment of 1-4-5 and similar bores in popular music.
@@ToumalRakesh yup I know! I really dislike most pop music. It's pretty repetitive and boring. There is still some good music being made. Right now I am trying to learn to read music so I can be in jazz band as a freshman. Like I said I'm learning bright size life and autumn leaves and blue bossa. I'm not quite at the level to start doing traditional jazz improvisation, but I still like comping and playing the melody.
Super choice
@@ToumalRakesh 1 4 5 can also be interesting, i would prefer to say it is the inexistence of authentic sentiment in most pop music that will dull a person
@@ToumalRakesh wrong, it gets to a stage where you can have a lot of fun with that, ask Julian Lage
Most legendary musicians when they achieve a certain status, they just rest on their laurels but Pat Metheny isn't one of those guys, he is constantly pushing the envelope and always reinventing himself while creating new material and still continuing to keep things fresh. He is the ultimate musical chameleon and in my opinion is the modern living Mozart of our time. 100 years from now, the music of Pat Metheny will be studied and listened to for many generations
Totally agree.
..truth...
Spot on
Reinventing himself whilst holding on to himself and the voice that touches his fans so deeply. That's always there.

i was thrilled to meet you in September 1975, at the Zircon Club in Somerville. Bob Moses and Jaco Pastorius were in your trio. I was a Berklee freshman from Saskatchewan and Pat Coil (from (jazz) band camp) told me 'when you get to Boston, go hear Pat Metheny and say hi' . I did. My efforts on Bright Size Life are still NOT happening :) thanks for all the music and inspiration!!
Pat's enthusiasm for new music and new musicians shines through. What a great - and still growing - body of work he's responsible for. Hope to see him on the road again soon.
Absolutely comes out of every pore and brain cell in him...so evident and authentic...
I love that Pat (like two of my other favorites, Miles and Prince) continually seeks new talent and ideas to further his own evolution. It’s really cool to hear Pat’s neo-soul version of “Better Days Ahead”, playing behind the beat and just killing it. I would to see this live!
what a cool guy. he looks and sounds better than ever.
His show last night was stunning, delightful and memorable!
Great! I can't wait to see him in The Netherlands 😃
SAC FTW!
Imagine being a young musician and having Pat invite you to his house to jam.
🧘🏽♂️
Peak existential moment me thinks...we you get that Metheny call to come on over...
Or imagine someone who's been a huge fan who's singing still at 57 and who wants to sing with him being invited to his house? I've been trying to meet him since 1982! He is the one and only musician who's inspired me more than anyone else. That says a lot for someone who's been through two brain surgeries, a hemoragic ministroke, 9 pneumonias and 46 years of Trigeminal Neuralgia! I even wear prosthetic eyes after having had acute glaucoma for a total of 13-1/2 years, and the pain was too much, so I had them remove my eyes. I've been totally blind all my life, so I'm not missing anything. I have Pat's music and so many interviews and his encouragement to do what I love, and I'm so thankful!
Pat, just saw you Sunday night at SFJazz. Fantastic show that brought back many memories and stages of life!
The best part was looking at the face of my 17 year old son while telling me “ Dad I remember all of this music!”
He’s a budding bass player and when I hear Bright Sized Life coming from his bedroom it all comes into focus.
Good stuff,
Thanks Pat.
I’m taking my 16 yr old son to see him in February. He’s a drummer. Just curious , does Metheny require phones to be checked in? I saw Jack White once and he required it
@@BadSneakers
No, they didn’t ask us to check them in but they did make a clear announcement that photography and recording were not allowed and to please put phones on silent or airplane mode.
@@blackchewy8435 thx it was weird checking in your phone .
@@BadSneakers
I know! My son and I went to see Dave Chappelle and they asked us for our phones. My kid said “No Dad!” I had to convince him that we would get them back. It was a little strange though.
Enjoy Pat with your son. It was really cool to see that light shine like it did for me many years ago.
@@blackchewy8435 I get it! My son probably wouldn’t be able to enjoy the concert! Lol and I wouldn’t be able to know what time it is!
Thank you, Pat, for your ongoing articulate, down to earth, yet visionary leadership & artistry.
Side Eye in St. Louis with Joe Dyson and Chris Fishman was incredible. The peak for me was the transition from This is Not America to Last Train Home. There's nothing like it.
Thank you for coming to San Francisco and I enjoyed your concert on Sunday.
просто спасибо за всё...
Pat you're my favorite musician OAT. I need to meet you one day
Imagine you're a young musician playing in a little club in NYC, and during your break Pat Metheny walks up to you and asks if you want to go up to his house and lay down some tracks.
"Uh yeah. Sounds like fun."
Yeeow!
Saw Pat and Side eye (Joe Dyson and James Francies) in Toronto the other night and it was absolutely phenomenal ! Thanks for introducing the world to 2 extrodinary players and of course yourself Mr. Methany
To say Pat's music has had aN unbelievabley profound impact on my life would still be an understatement! I legitimately believe you are enlightened Pat . If you were to respond to this message, you would make my millennium. Regardless, thank you for the music 🙏 from the debths of my soul , Thank you.
Tommy (Northern England)
It's awesome to be seeing Pat Metheny on the internet a little more nowadays. He's SURE got tons of info and experience to impart!
Pat Metheny, thanks for existing. 🙏
When you see Pat Metheny playing in his striped shirt and his Gibson Es175, you can say you have touched heaven and heard God
Seen many of those gigs and that 175...and others with a different shirt and different guitars (ex Synth Guitar or the 42stringer)...and they were so touching the cosmos...
He hasn't played the ES-175 in years.
@@Frapzoid are you sure ?
@@Domenico_Con Yes.
Love your music, man, been listening since the beginning. Miss Lyle a lot too!
What a cool person
Thanks Pat James and Marcus, we loved the show in Portland Oregon at revolution hall, you were all awesome, as always Pat was undeniable as the great he is and James and Marcus introduced themselves as more than capable of keeping up, see you again hopefully soon!

I'd heard in Tokyo at the Blue Note in 2019. Every day for ten days do you remember me Pat? Also with this group.
Such honest, gentelman, respectfull for everyone, umble and professional. The purity in the music's history. Also a talent scout of young great musicians.
Thank you for the eternity Pat.
Looking forward to seeing you and Side Eye in late June at the Rochester Jazz Festival.
Looking forward to the latest album, Pat. All the best with the 2021-2 World Tour. Thanks for putting more interviews and stuff out on UA-cam. The next generation will appreciate it.🙏👍☀️🇬🇧👍☀️🙏
Present generation appreciates these recent interviews too...esp. with Rick Beato....amazing interview..I could not help but smile the whole interview....
Agreed. It was a great interview. Not enough of Mr Metheny interviews in my humble opinion.
Thank you Pat Metheny. Truly a real artist.

Cool,you're the best...Pat,you're a Master !...
Very Cool!!!Thank You Pat!!!
Growing up in the 60's and 70's most of my friends listened to heavy metal. They still love it. I always from day one loved your music. It's relaxing, off center, ageless and I still get excited when I hear it.
Many Blessings to you for assisting the younger generations to learn from a grand master of unique Source creativity of are you going with me … forward … beyond all limiting forces … and how you have lived your life (no drugs or alcohol) …. yes, maybe hallucagenics can free a limited mind briefly to see beyond the veil … but is never what creates from one’s heart & soul … you, Miles, Santana, Joni and so many more are our truest American Medicene Men & Women 💕💕💕
Thank you Pat.
I love this man, and all he’s given to the world with his music.

Grande bravo pat metheny fantastico Gaetano chitarrist from italy
Amazing, peace from Detroit MI.
Pat has been an inspiration for modern fusion and jazz guitarists around the world and Cuba is not an exception, a month ago I incorporate Travels to my repertoire, its changes are so fresh and innovative that is always a pleasure to play as unaccompanied guitar, thanks Pat for the legacy!!!
This is very insightful. Another comment mentioned that Pat does not rest on his laurels, but is out there pushing the envelope. It's great to hear from Pat about the process and experience.
You’re the best, getting my ticket, for the concert, This week ✨
Love this record! Got it the first day it was available. What does VI - IV in the title refer to? You mentioned 6 drummers…
big love ever - iv got a gifted intracebill from an unknown at an jazz-festival in hamburg amazing - love
Caro Pat ascoltare la tua musica provoca sempre grandi emozioni 👏👏🤗
Hello Pat. I am looking forward to seeing you in Buenos Aires. Damn pandemic!
It would be great if machine translation could be enabled on this you tube video.
Thanks for understanding and sharing.
Just saw him and the 2 amazing artists last night at the Patchogue Theater…it was epic🥰 Thanks for introducing us to them…James Francis and the drummer whose name I can’t remember ❤️
Dear Pat, just wanted to personally thank you for your music, it has literally carried me through my life. From Still Life Talking, to the Falcon and the Snowman, to Blade Runner, to Tell Her You Saw Me, it's been your music that has calmed my spirit, and soothed my soul. And now that I'm nearer the end of my life, I just wanted to say...thank you...and...I love you. When there was no one else there but Jesus to walk with me, there was your music sending a lullaby, weaving the cords of my life.
Any chance of a DVD of the Side Eye concert from this album? That would be awesome. See you 10/15 in Chicago!
I have enjoyed your performance in Düsseldorf last night very much. Thanks for an amazing evening, it was sheer pleasure...
Pat, sei un genio assoluto,ho avuto il privilegio di assistere ad un tuo concerto tempo fa a Catania in Sicilia, sei incredibile, nessuno come te 💝🇮🇹🌍

NO DOUBT, SO ALONG WITH THE ‘ LATE EMILY REMLER, GUITARIST EXTROADNAIRE, ARE TWO OF THE GREATEST JAZZ GUITARISTS EVER! FOR ‘ EMILY’ SO TRAGICALLY PASSIN AWAY AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 31, OF REASONS FOR WHICH I WILL NOT SO PUBLISH, JUST ATTEMPT TO PURCHASE HER LAST ALBUM, ‘ THIS IS ME’, SO PUBLISHED IN 1990 BY JUSTICE RECORDS! NO DOUBT HER BEST ALBUM, ALONG W/ALL OF HER ALBUMS! SO WHEN I LISTEN TO ANY OF PAT’S RECORDINGS, SO TO INCLUDE HIS NEWEST ONE, WHICH I NOW THINK IS HIS BEST ( I ALWAYS SAY THAT ABOUT HIS NEW ALBUMS HA!), ‘ SIDE EYE BLIND NYC’ ( DOWNLOADED, SO WAITING SOON FOR MY PUCHASED ONE TO SO ARRIVE!), MY MIND IMMEDIATELY TRAVELS TO THE PLAYING OF EMILY, YES 2 DIFFERENT STYLES, BUT SO UNIQUE IN THEIR EXPLORATIONS OF THE JAZZ GUITAR! RIP EMILY AND BEST WISHES TO PAT! MERCI BEAUCOUP! 🙂
Hello, Pat!
Not only the young guys Sir. I grew up in NYC in the 1970s, and early 1980s. Attended CIS 229, HS of Perfoming Arts, skipped Julliard for the USMC, but would stop by the house, and play with you anytime. Guitar, Bass, Boards, and yes I can play Bright Size Life, and many of your other compositions. I had to send this, because I do not want to look back, and say " why did I not send that comment" One never knows.
서울에서 공연을 보고 싶어요~
Still, some of the happiest music I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying!
To The End of The World with Pat....Ji Ji Ji.. Saludos..
...most excellent chart...To the End of the World....from We Live Here....💪🎵
Hey Pat. Saw u in the late 90s at the Chicago symphony orchestra hall. I feel asleep listening. Hahahahahahaha

I play the trumpet to your music
Looking forward to see you and the band perform in my hometown in February. Thanks, Pat!
Você é coisas incríveis maravilha axé hoooo

Dear Pat,
Your breathtaking guitar playing and compositions are extremely fantastic.
" Very Best Musician Player in the World .. Great Sounds on This New Proget ". .. So' Good ... ☺😊😀/🎼💙🎶💙🎵💙🎵/👍✌👌👏👋
I can't explain Pat's hair
I will be happy to see Pat playing with some of great musicians who are into fusion music. Like Dhafer Youssef. It's one of the areas Pat didn't explore yet.
Are you going to do a song with Larnell Lewis? As he's fantastic
Zero dislikes.

I noticed the pickup seems altered under the b string. What kind of single coil is this?

Man that's a beautiful D'Angelico Excel on the left. Wonder if that's his?
Queria saber qual o nome de uma música de Pat que parece um country e é de um vinil de capa branca. Alguém pode ajudar?
