Nice play list, I really appreciate what you are doing. There are a lot of great musicians but a few stands out that are truly the best. Tribute to Neil Peart,
Yes, the Stars is absolutely gorgeous and showed his groovyness and skill. KXM is awesome. Unfortunately many people know him as a man who has f#cked up some Korn shows. It was long ago but.. . I still don't understand how did that happen.
He has been a hidden gem for quite a while. He’s played with a lot of bands. He’s starting to finally get some notoriety now that is much deserved. Ray is an absolute beast! He’s definitely on my short list that are playing today.
Ray Luzier is one of my favorite drummers, he is phenomenal ! Love his style of playing open as well, not many drummer do and he has a great resume, even playing a few years for David Lee Roth.
Ray (in my opinion) is the perfect rock/metal drummer. He's got great feel, chops for days, he's super creative and has great energy. He's the kind of drummer every band wishes they had.
LOVE signature drum parts like that verse. You can't always play something totaly unique, but riffs like that are refreshing and give songs a distinct and memorable character.
Glad you enjoyed it as much as I do! He's actually a really great teacher too, well worth looking up some of his older lesson DVDs and even brief UA-cam lessons, he has a solid musical foundation and knows what his role is in the band. Plus, you know, chops for days.
I’m not a Korn fan, but I saw them on a festival while waiting for A Perfect Circle and thoroughly enjoyed it because the show was entirely set up to be the Ray Luzier Extravaganza, lol. Outstanding drummer.
Dude at 11:30 when you mention Ray replacing David and being a monster. So true. I saw korn live with both and Ray is like night and day difference. When Ray plays korn songs live he literally juggles the beat, its so easy to him
Ray Luzier is so underrated. He is such a technical drummer with a unique way of playing. Amazing that he can keep that pace up for a whole show. Hats off Mr. LUZIER
Ray Luzier is an amazing drummer, with a Very aggressive style... Also u can tell by his style, that he has done a lot of stage play with other bands. As a fill in or fulltime as he is with Korn... For instance just the style and energy alone he brought to this play thru... The stage is a second home to him...
Dude, same. My band mates and I are setting up an album club, like a book club where we take turns choosing a new album that none of us has heard before and then reviewing it. We are doing one per week for 2021 and I use these videos to discover all kinds of new goodies.
My wife and I seen Koran in Milwaukee and they were very good, every song played exactly like on the record and the show was awesome, one of the best shows I’ve seen
I'm enjoying the fact I was blissfully unaware of this video, and this reaction to boot, more than a year later. But I have some serious stank stuck to this face, and has been stuck there since the 1 second mark. LOL
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Hey Andy. You should definetly check out swedish drummer Morgan Ågren. Not your average drummer, he's one of a kind. :) Great channel btw. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
KXM = Korn (Ray Luzier) + kings X (Dug Pinnick) + lynch Mob (George Lynch) Pretty amazing that Dug would've been 63 or 64 in 2014 when cranking out the bass lines and singing. Awesome.
yep .. the legend.. doug pinnick ! Andrew... you need to check out Jerry Gaskill of King's X .. like on Moanjam or We Were Born to Be Loved... one bass drum and he kicks it hard... and sings...
The independence of the opening groove when it kicks in is off the chart difficult - 3/4 on the hi-hat w/ left hand & foot, while doing an implied double bass pattern off the floor and single kick and holding down the back beat with the right. Damn, Ray!
I just legit got my first drum kit I hadda go with an eletric set cause I live in an appartment all cause of the drummers I admire and look up to but you pushed the thought of it further into me
I saw Korn at a festival a few years back (Never got into them) purely because I'd heard good things about Ray. His solo was insanely impressive, I'll never forget the guy next to me. He said 'That drummer is nuts, he's like an octopus on speed'
This set up is/was his Studio setup. He recently changed it. The Ozone next to his Ride and the China in the center are almost always there. It's part of his signature. I tried to put both cymbals on my set where Ray's cymbals are and I never wanna miss it again. Such a sweet spot for both. And the Snare tone comes from a Pearl 14x6,5 Free Floater Phosphor Bronze Snare.
I know it's two years later I breezed the comments did not see this.. you mentioned his cymbals and how close they are. I heard him speak and at the music institute and he spoke and showed how extremely tight he keeps them. His ride barley moves. He also said he is rare because he hits the ride with the shoulder of the stick.., he prefers the tone.
the "karate" chop I saw him use in a live video he did in a store to some Korn songs...it is almost a wah wah type of effect on the bell ringing. It was way easier to hear it in that video. It is on UA-cam. It makes the ringing have a weird tonal change.
For some reason people seem to forget just how surgical & passionate Mr. Luzier is because he plays with Korn. In fact, Ray made Korn better, imho. He is a legit Progressive drummer. Hideous Sun Demons was proof of that including his clinics. Obviously, his time at the professional level made him a more succinct player but the average nu-metal drummer still wouldn't have progressed to his level. He's very underrated and I think he deserves a Zildjian live spot. One of the few Metal drummers left that don't require triggers, samples & templates to perform perfectly.
Andrew, there is a drum cam video (it's also from Vic Firth) from Ray performing live Korn's Freak on a leash. Please react to it, you won't regret. Greetings from Chile, Southamerica
He is definitely one of the best drummers and very well poised, never done drugs, doesn’t drink, sounds like Ted Nugent in that respect, but is definitely one of the best.
I'm not a drummer, so I'm feeling a little stupid for asking, but is the kickdrum in the verse on a back-beat and the on-beat is placed somewhere else? That question doesn't even make sense, but let's stick to the first part of the question... Whatever. Haha. I love Ray Luzier. And your videos, good sir.

One of the best rock drummers out there in my opinion..
he just doesn't fit with Korn
KXM is such GOLD. Drums, guitar and vocals.

His drumming for Korn is legit too

Guessing the "karate chop" was maybe intended as a manual flanger effect for the ride bell hit by intermittently blocking the sound's path to the mic.
