Hey! Check out my REACTION PLAYLIST...
ua-cam.com/play/PLqspKksRqaUURy8K34sBSKvuGo3ApmLC2.html
Haven't seen anyone mention it but the other man on the bass drum is Redd Foxx
Little late to reply but the toms are the way they are because Brann goes through that many skins he usually just puts a set of heads on both sides realising it’s better to just spin them around to a clean skin when the top one gets a bit too busted up rather than change it mid set or god forbid break it
What I think makes Brann stand head and shoulders above many drummers is how he seems to alter the pattern for almost every few bars that they're hardly repeated throughout whole songs.
It must keep playing the same songs year after year more enjoyable, rather than copy/paste drum patterns that you could play in your sleep.
Crack the Skye is seriously one the best metal/rock albums to ever be released. Great from start to finish
I'll check it out Corey!
I saw them in Hollywood for that tour. They came out, played the entire album note for note all the way thru without speaking one word to the crowd. Then left, came back on and played 2 songs from each previous album, then walked off the stage. All without saying anything to the crowd. Was so epic. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Great to hear. Keep up the great reactions. Really like your critical take on technique as well as the styles of drummers you are choosing for your videos!
Hell yeah
Nothing has ever been said that's more true than this.
Mastodon is the best thing to happen to metal for the last 20 years. They never disappoint 😁
Great to hear Hessel!
Definitely the best metal band that came out after 2000.... best musicianship best Songwriting... simple as that
Rodney Dangerfield and Red Foxx on kick drum. 2 comedy legends. Foxx was in "Sanford and Son", great show.
He sure can flickety-flack them drums!
Flickety flammed em
Flickeridino mate
What makes Brann even more great, is the dude can also sing while he plays.
Seriously how much talent can you have! Just love the whole band.
@@ororo81 the each member ofmastodon could easily be the front man of a world famous band they just happen to all be together in one awesome package
Brann and everyone in the band sings, VERY talented bunch of gentlemen!
@@chrisydarg1268 not Bill
sings while he decimates the drums
Mike Portnoy called Brann “The Bill Bruford of Metal”.
I remember brann saying bill is a influence on him in some interview
Probably my two favorites rocks drummers.
That is high praise.
God damn his precision is intense, which seems near impossible with how smoothly those rolls flow through. It sounds like liquid drums, as odd as that sounds.
Yes Jordan. Liquid is a good description
Of the modern metal drummer I have seen Brann plus Mario (Gojira) are probably the most memorable. Mario is pure power, a beast and Brann has an ability to put in an extra fill where there is no space for one but never makes it sound forced.
Love it!
That would be a spectacular combo... Brann, and Mario, are two of my favs. I was just listening to Gojira and didn't ever think of this duo. Thanks for the videos
Brann and Austin Archey (Lorna Shore) for me
wait until you see him do all that.... and sing at the same time
Hard to believe
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Dont believe it, he simplifies the fills a lot when he also sings. Still impressive though :)
Crack the Skye is a literal fucking masterpiece. I saw it live and it was indescribable man. I won tickets to their Heavenly Skye Tour a few years back.
I'm also about to see my OTHER fave prog album of all time Parallax 2 by Between the Buried and Me. Life is good
Brann is an exceptional drummer across their entire discography but knowing what this album is about makes it more impactful, emotional and resonant.
Rodney and Redd .... "You big dummie!" (inside joke if you know who Redd Foxx is)
I've never seen that guy!
Sanford and Son was a 70's American comedy that featured Redd Fox. I'm from Atlanta Georgia where Mastodon got their start. They put on a great live show.
That's Fred G. Sanford (Redd Foxx) on the bass drum next to Rodney Dangerfield ... the G stands for "God damn Brann Dailor is a beast ass drummer!"
I thought it was current Bill Cosby
Thank you... you said something so I didn't have to. Wow.
Brann is from Rochester, NY. My old band Buried Beneath opened for his early bands Evisceration and Lethargy in the early 90's and he was one of those drummers where people lined the side of the stage to watch him play. He was a great guy. Haven't seen or talked to him in 25 years and it's great to see him having such success in Mastodon.
i lived in atlanta for about ten years and hung out with all the mastodon dudes and brann and all them are super cool dudes. brann is a great drummer and a really sweet dude lol
Brann Dailor for one reason or another never gets commonly name checked in the conversation of the great drummers, but he is quite frankly one of the GREATEST drummers of this generation. His gas tank never depletes. He hits with such power, absolute precision and ferocious passion. Absolute monster drummer with such an original style.
Yup monster for sure Lyle
Absolutely made my day that you checked out Brann, I really feel he doesn't get the love he deserves. Hope to get more of him in the future.
I will definitely do more!!
I think it's because a lot of people see him as a busy drummer. Always doing a fill or ghosting. Really, he is a modern groove drummer.
@@Aowyr I'm inclined to agree. Mastodon, as a whole, always caught flak as a band you either loved or hated. A problem with talents, even in the metal community, is simply not giving credit just because it doesn't fit a particular taste.
You checked out his stuff on Today is the Day's 'In the Eyes of God'? Still to this day I think that's his most mind melting performances
@@matthewgodding777 that album is so unbelievably fucking heavy it's glorious. I used to listen to the Mayari in the gym alot
The king of fills. One of the best drummers out there.
Yes Kjetil!
Now. Sing. Over. It.
Brann is a monster, and his vocals are so amazing.
RIGHT!?
And the dude sings while doing this shit. It is insane.
That's not fair
he uses double kicks for flavour like danny carey. his stick work is sublime :D
Brann is quite possibly the busiest drummer out there. Dude is all over that kit and has fills for days. Favorite.
Mastodon does a great job sharing the spotlight amongst the boys but Brann's a pretty special talent and deserves all the good attention he gets.
Saw Mastodon live and had no idea he sang too while drumming that was impressive to me. He has to have so much control of his breathing while rocking it on those drums, but he killed it all night.
That's insanity Sarah. I'll have to see it to believe it
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I show was in North Carolina. Definitely insanity I couldn't believe it.
Came here to mention this. Check out High Road or Show Yourself.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Check out Stargasm off the MEINL Cymbols channel. It's his drum cam with him singing in it as well
Brann Dailor is a SICK drummer! He can play really fast fills but still keep a groove and he stays on time like a machine. He is amazing.
Brann is one of the best metal drummers because he always plays for the song, applying patterns and fills to compliment guitar rythms and vocals.
Redd Foxx ... His famous TV show was Sanford and Son. Before that, he was a stand-up comedian. I was at a poker party, and the host pulled out a Redd Foxx record (vinyl) and played it. Oh, my, funny and raunchy. Supper funny stuff!
Seeing these guys live it's honestly impressive how damned clean his playing is. He has this wild, almost improvisational feel to a lot of his fills and rolls (kinda reminds me of Keith Moon a bit) but he plays it note-for-note live as well.
him and Danny Carey also jammed together on stage and just performed like a improvised solo together and it was fucking sick. This drummer getting ready to listen to now has some of the best fills I have ever heard. Just wait you'll see!
One of my favourite drummers
That other guy on the bass drum is Mr. Redd Foxx! Brann knows his comedy!
So pleased you are featuring Brann, one of my favourite drummers
Love him and the fact that he and my favorite drummer are good friends. 🤘
So am I Charlie!
Who is that Sarah!?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Danny Carey of Tool
Mastodon has been one of my favorite bands for YEARS and its because they are low key musical magicians. I know a lot of people didnt care for their shift in sound through the years but i absolutely love it. I have seen them many times live and they are just incredible humans and incredible showmen. They are one of many bands that put out videos on the recording of their albums.
This album on drums is like sprinting a marathon.
The guy on the right on kick reso head is "Red Foxx" Fred Sanford of the comedy Sanford & Son.
Remember this guy plays drums this good and sings at the same time ...mega talented man.
Brann is the best of today I think
His voice is amazing, he needs so much breath control to do that while playing the drums at his own level that i can't even comprehend it.
Amazing musician.
Agreed!
Boom
The album saved my life when I was a dumb teenager who was thinking bad thoughts, and this song in particular didn't get enough love from everyone. Good to see you covering it.
Brann's drumming and singing blows my mind at times. He has so much stamina for what he does.
Yes!!!
The other comedian on the kick drum is Redd Foxx. He was featured in the show Sanford and Sons
Thanks!
One thing to note, he does most of the newer vocals on the Mastodon work as well.
What the hell!?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Brann is seriously a beast
Was lucky enough to meet Brann a few years ago, not only is he an amazing drummer and singer but a really cool dude who happens to love IPAs!
Excellent point about the pedal. It’s about the player.
100%!
Much respect. Brann has climbed up my list of favorite drummers the last couple years. Thank you for the breakdown! And if memory serves me right, Brann has beat out Danny Carey in a drum publication's annual "Best Drummer - Metal" category in consecutive years. Says TONS!
Awesome Thomas!
Finally a Brann video🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
YESSSS Jacob! And more to come!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums have a look at the song motherload if you do more because he sings that one and plays too.
I always knew Brann was a good drummer, but this is the first time I have seen the focus on him playing. That is fucking sic.
Brann is insane. Was lucky to meet him and rest of the band backstage in Dublin. Super cool dudes
I’ve been fortunate to catch Mastodon in concert twice in my life (so far) and they are absolutely stellar. Brann takes me to school every time I hear him play and in concert he’s my main focus. 🤘😎🤘
Unreal drummer. Probably my favorite
Brann started out in Rochester NY in the bands Lethargy and Gaylord, remember seeing him play in the local clubs. He was amazing back then, and I am so happy to see his successful career continue on. He's quite a talented singer as well and a key songwriter in Mastodon.
I was in the service, stationed out of state during the time he was in those bands. I didn't return to Rochester until 2001, so I missed that.
@@Shake69ification I remember seeing the March of the Fire Ants video on MTV, thinking that drummer looked so familiar, lol. Didn't realize he and Bill had made that next step, very cool.
You should check out his drum cam of "Stargasm". It's my favorite song of theirs and his fills in it are sublime. Not to mention, he's sings harmony the whole time he's drumming as well.
The octopus has no friends is a real good one as well off the Hunter
The whole album is bangin but I have to agree stargasm soars with his vocals and drums
Redd Foxx - comedian/actor, most known for the TV series Sanford & Son from the 1970s.
Right! I've never heard of him!
Fuck yes! You need to check out a live video of him singing and drumming.
How did I miss this, It was released on my birthday 10/21... 60 years young...
Each member of Mastodon is an impressive musician in their own right. Brann's drumming and Brent's lead guitar work get the most attention, but they are all fantastic.
Red Fox from Sanford and Son.
I broke a sweat watching this guy play.
Yup!
That’s Rodney Dangerfield and Red Fox. Legends of comedy from a bygone era.
3:58 that triplet fill is my favorite part of the whole song. It's a minor detail, but it pops up out of nowhere and sounds amazing.
Never forget that Brann Sings a lot of their songs while drumming that hard
That's insane Jack
@@AndrewRooneyDrums he grew up listening Genesis, Husker Du, Queen and Eagles so yeah. His vocals are actually brilliant, any mastodon song with clean Alto to Falsetto vocals are Brann
The faces on the bass drum are Rodney Dangerfield and Redd Foxx also known as Fred Sanford from Sanford and Son.
Thank you for checking brann out, he's hands down one of my favorite drummers out there. Also thats red fox on the kick with rodney dangerfield
Brann is a beast….. one of the best drummers ever
Brann is one of those guys than gives you insanely accurate fills when you are not expecting them, and his singles strokes are freaking fast!
If you’ve never been exposed to Mastodon, the first 5 seconds of this video gives you all the information you need. Not my favorite band, but the sum of its parts is absolutely insane.
Mastodon is a supergroup without any of the side projects.
Tama drums are just king in metal. And yea the toms are inverted because of the mounting. Gives extra height. Doesnt matter which way you play them just swap the heads 😅
This guy has a great style and technique!
He’s one of the best drummers in the business today. Does lead vocals a good amount too, guy is an unbelievable talent.
this appeared in my recommended and boy am I glad it did. Mastodon are one of the "metal" bands around and have been for a while. If you liked this I recommend some of there earlier work from Leviathan. Thank you for making this vid
Thanks Tam!!!
There's a great video of him playing "Megalodon" off of Leviathan with only his rhythm guitar player buddy Bill Kelliher on YT it's fantastic
Bran follows the guitar instead of accentuating it and has an "inverted" style that carries the song and flies in the face of traditional drumming techniques. he is truly a genius with his instrument
So glad you assessed Brann, he really has something different "going on" amongst today's metal drummers. He's incredible live, plays with intensity, precision whilst singing beautiful lead vocals! An amazing ball of positive energy!! Check out the Blood Mountain album, incredible patterns, time signatures and colour!
kick ass drummer
Plus he's a singer for the band, sometimes even lead.
😮
Brann has been one of my favorite drummers from the very first moment I heard Mastodon. Whats even more impressive is everyone in Mastodon sings to include Dailor. Im never disappointed with their music. Every album is like a magical journey to another place.
BRANN Is also a fantastic singer.
what an absolutely beautiful kit. and brann delivers as usual
you can see the tama star classic badges are in the correct orientation. must of moved his drum mounts to the lower lugs to show off the paint job
Right on
Brann Dailor is a tornado of perpetual motion
Yup
Redd Foxx is the other guy on the kick. Mastodon is incredible. Everyone writes and three of them sing as lead. One of the most musical heavy bands around.
The Wolf Is Loose is probably my favorite of Brann's. Steambreather is an awesome groove that still features some amazing fills.
ua-cam.com/video/eDZckzjjK5Y/v-deo.html
Rodney Dangerfield and Redd Foxx, two of the greatest comedians ever.
You can see how much fun he has showing his craft.
This consists of Brann’s cardio for the day. 😂. Beastmode
the dudes on the bass drum are Rodney Dangerfeild and Redd Foxx
And he’s one of the singers in the band!!!
While I get what you’re saying(I certainly couldn’t do ANY of it) but the only guy in the band who doesn’t sing is, Bill.
@@OlinKreutzRules true enough!! I can hardly walk down the street so I’m pretty easily impressed when you can sing and move all your appendages independently in different rhythms. 😂😂
@@cpm7414 😁😁😁😁 Outstanding Have a good one!!!
In my opinion, he is the best drummer in the world. With a compact kit, he consistently adds many precise fills that are not excessive, and on top of that, he sings
I met the band a couple months ago. Real cool guys
They put a bunch of metal drummers, Mario Duplantier, Danny carey, and Brann Dailor on a digital set that measures accuracy and Brann was apparently the most accurate/ in time of them all.
He's gotta be one of if not my favourite drummers of all time. He's like the Phil Collins of metal.
Another wyld drummer! Thank you sharing Andrew!! This reminds me of Tool and a mix of Iced Earth! More drummers to check out!! See WOLF!! WHOA!! I think it's either Richard Christy or Brent Smedley OH!! Guess it's his Bday today! BRANN If you are listening. That was was some wicked drumming!! Happy Birthday! May your dreams come true!
🙏
Bran definitely does use a double kick pedal, he just uses it more sparingly for a metal drummer.
The person in the picture with Rodney Dangerfield is comedian Redd Foxx (Sanford and Son)
mastodon's guys are known to be very funny and making fun, so that's why and yeah, brann the man of the fills hahahaha
Branns parts always fascinate me considering he is a self taught drummer and somehow mastodon always seem to find a way to throw some intricate riffs/time signatures for him to deal with lol
He's awesome Jason. I'm a new fan!
This is from one of the best metal albums ever, absolute masterpiece. Hoping you eventually do another video on Brann from this session, he did multiple other great songs like precious stones or ember city or blasteroid. Guy is one of the best drummers in the business.
That is Red Fox! He was the father on Sanford and Sons. That is a picture of Rodney Dangerfield and Red Fox!!
The guy on the right is from the television show Sanford and son. American comedy.
Really amazing drummer!!!!
Skills, headroom, whatever…love his sound.
Yes!
that was nice...wasn't expecting Brann to be so "accessible" but i learnt a bit just from watching this vid...he sounds so big and massive!! such great use of dynamics and those fills! ...gonna check out Mastadon now...hadn't thought of them much before now!! Always been a bit of a Mudvayne fan and this guys drumming and even the music reminds me a lot of their earlier stuff...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brann is brilliant! I like those cymbals.
So good Robert
Bran one of my favs. he's trully got a style all his own in the metal world.
The other guy on the bass drum is Redd Foxx from the 1970s sitcom Sanford and son and he was also a stand-up comedian.
