Andrew, once again you’re far too kind. I’m extremely grateful to have so many people enjoy what I do. It was designed to be silly, so I’m glad it makes people happy. However, it’s really nice when someone (like yourself) sees past the shenanigans, and notices some of the more subtle things. Now and again, you’ll read a comment like “He’s upstaging the singer. He’s not a team player.” To me that’s like saying “Jim Carey is way too funny. He should give the other actors a chance to be funny.” LOL If I was hired to play drums for Trace Adkins, I would NOT perform this way (unless he requested it). However, the band I was touring with at the time, was a fun, family show. The singer (Rick) and myself, were constantly tossing the ball back and fourth. That was part of the act.

I always wondered, in those videos you sometimes have a "pissed off" face, is it just part of the act, is it your "zone" face, or were you really pissed off at something?
Also, the only reason ALL drummers don't do what you are all the time, is because they can't! lol

      Honestly man. I love it.
People/musos take themselves far too seriously IMO.
In the end we are there to entertain. And as you say it's dependent on the situation.
I've been playing drums a long time and I certainly can NOT do what you do. Therefore I'm not appropriate for this gig!!
Above all the actual drumming is really great.
Just be yourself right!? It's the best we can do :)

Andrew this is my third video of yours that I've been able to watch. Your first Steve Moore was how I came across your channel and of course subscribed.
I'm 55 and a little granny in the mountains. I've ALWAYS loved the drums and have fun playing around on a little Pearl. So glad to have noticed your channel, this particular video that you played was Steve's performance that shot this little ladies heart straight to the moon. He's a rocket that just keeps accelerating and bashing the stars out of the way.
I don't know of many professional drummers that I held in high regard, but I could think of a few: Keith Moon was one of the two that were up there for me, but after seeing Steve play that song, like that, no one could come close to him in my eyes. And that comes from someone that saw ZZ Top play in the 80's.
Steve, you're a very inspiring drummer, you keep flying through those stars and continue to pound out magic with your sticks.

You are such a great performer Steve! I wish you would appear on Drumeo to share some of your tricks... the way you move with the sticks and manage to keep time is simply stunning. Drumeo is a great channel for the technical stuff and I am currently learning the drums ans watching it a lot - but you could bring a unique set of skills to share there with all the stick work. :p

Steve Moore is definitely a very funny guy. In his comment on your last video on him, he says these antics came out of his boredom of playing the same old covers night after night. And he mentions that he really was only trying to amuse himself and that it was a little selfish of him. In a way he is right. Because he does steal the attention somewhat. I was thinking that while the guitarist was doing his solo. But then guitarists get lots of chances to do their solos. Lol. But you hit the nail on the head, when you mentioned his time. The only reason Steve can pull off his shenanigans is that his time is impeccable. If you close your eyes and just listen to his playing, at no point does the song waver or stumble. The other musicians can happily play on a solid foundation and not worry about having to adjust for any hiccups in the time. So while his antics may have begun out of a selfish desire to amuse himself, he remains unselfish in his dedication to making the song feel good and supporting the other musicians so they don't have to struggle to play the tune.
Basically what I am saying is that if a lesser drummer were to try to emulate Steve's antics and he started wavering in time or missing a beat here or there, the band would fire him in a heartbeat. The only reason Steve gets away with it (besides being ridiculously funny) is that he fulfills his first job as a drummer; to make the music feel good and help the band sound great.
I can't do what Steve does. For one thing, I'm a bit of a klutz. If I started flailing my arms around like that I would hit something for sure and the sticks would go flying out of my hands. I also don't have stereoscopic vision. So forget throwing the sticks in the air. I would rarely catch them, if ever! I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. If I used that much arm movement, I would be completely exhausted after one song. And while I'm always working on improving my time, there's no I could try to do any of that stuff without my time suffering. So it would be very selfish of me to try to incorporate some flashy moves in my drumming just to get a little attention. I'll leave that to the experts.

You said you were surprised at all the positive comments. The theatrics aside (and I love the theatrics) talent is talent. I rather watch Steve Moore having fun and playing at his killer level than watch a boring drum machine drummer who has played the song a million times and is bored out of his mind, and it shows on his face. That look on the bored drummer's face frequently comes across as smug. One of my all-time favorite drummers was Phil Collins because, he knew how to have fun and at the same time play the hell out of the drums. I just recently discovered Steve Moore, and now he is up there with Phil Collins in my book.

I did not mean to infer that you were surprised that he got positive comments like he did not deserve them. I have seen comments about artists both singers and instrument players of all kinds of instruments that were fantastic but because they did something different or entertaining while performing the comments would be something such as "Oh he isn't a serious drummer or guitarist or what ever". I was glad to see you actually giving Mr. Moore his due and props. I enjoy your reactions and all your videos, so thanks for doing them. I'd hate for anyone to think I'm out there critiquing any drummer.
      And thanks for the recommend!

I'm 53 yo I've been slapping the skins since I was 12. Any one that can't appreciate what Steve does is jealous or just plain stuck up. Obviously Steve has the skills to play what's necessary no matter what that may be.

11:20 can you imagine someone complaining to the drum teacher how boring it is to hear the same annoying old song hundreds of times over and over again😂😂😂😂. Love Steve’s fun spin on these songs.

Is Steve Moore channeling KEITH MOON.? Not the wrong gig. The wrong decade! This is where the art of drumming showmanship excels. Sitting as Ringo or Charlie just looses it. Carlos Santana has his magnificent wife. Sorry I cannot continue after seeing her live. 🇦🇺

ua-cam.com/video/QfMFrpa66TI/v-deo.html for a drum solo from him at Woodstick 2010. There's also a version from left side of him. this one is from the front.

This would be truly lame if the drumming wasn't stellar. What I don't get is how he's playing with this much energy for so long with so many clothes on. Seems like hyperthermia would set in pretty quickly

I admire Moore's showmanship, and the dude is REALLY skilled, but I honestly prefer drummers who are relatively stoic onstage. Excessive stick twirling and mugging for the crowds...I dunno, it just doesn't appeal to me. Leave the frontman shenanigans to the singers and guitarists.
I'm not saying everyone needs to sit there stone-faced like Neil, but I can watch great drummers just get in the zone and hold down a groove all day long without engaging in histrionics.
