That's one gnarly rhythm section! How do you construct grooves when you're jamming?
@TearsOfDecember Band holy shit man. Cool story, but have you ever heard of a period?
First time to see nick virgillo playing bass.. This man is awsome, thanks sweet water for a great content in sharing your knowledge to us..
@TearsOfDecember Band I get what you're saying but periods help people save time when reading. To an outsider, it takes way more effort and time to decide where one idea starts and the other begins.
Spaces between paragraphs might help, if you don't want to use punctuation.
I agree that the best way to write is with someone you can trust, "read" and get to know, instead of someone you can just plan stuff with or have a preset style in mind. It becomes way more personal and rewarding. That takes being around positive creative humble people which is who I'm trying to surround myself with.
@TearsOfDecember Band a lot of sentences and paragraphs are easier to navigate with punctuation used for example which is harder to read this paragraph or the next one don’t you feel like you’re running out of breath reading in your head also you spelt aren’t wrong now let’s move on to the second paragraph
this is a lot easier to navigate, i can take pauses and figure out when one thing, moves on to the next. periods break up all of this otherwise “wall of text” mess and make it easier for native, and non native english speakers alike to read. imagine reading a book in one breath, that’s how it feels reading your comment.
The way we construct grooves depends on which one of us started playing first. Generally if I start a drum groove first, my bass player will listen for a few measures and start putting the basics out for a main riff, and then start adding in some accents with the drums I'm hitting. If he starts first, I'll just listen for the timing and keep a super simple beat going until I get comfortable with it and then start adding in the extra bass notes/ tom hits/ fills/ etc.
I can never get tired of listening or watching Ray Luzier play....
Same with us! 😎🤘
Cool to see nick on the other side of the drum set!! Shows the talent of the guy
True! 👏
Yeh nick just aint a dumb drummer he's a groove machine also....sweet....water...
Wait til you check out his band Spock's Beard!
true, ive personally always said one of the most important parts of being a drummer is being able to play bass.
Ray has been in my top 10 Fav drummers from way back when he played with Dave. And as time goes by, and I see him play, he keeps creeping up that list. The guy never ceases to amaze with complex yet groove oriented playing that somehow doesn't seem like "overplaying". Something many modern drummers seem to do. Plus growing up on a farm as a kid in Pennsylvania has kept him humble even with all the fame. A real down to earth, appreciative guy realizing it's not always talent, but also some luck that gets you into a successful music career. Especially one at the top.
Golly that snare sounds amazing 😂
Bass tone is 🔥
Absolutely one of the BEST drum and bass jams!
I could watch Ray teach all day
Us too! 🤘
Love how this video lasts exactly 11 minutes.

As a bass player, great stuff! I work exclusively with originals and this is what we do. Thanks so much.

Too much groove between this duo! Best anime crossover ever!
👏
Tuff tuff tuff Drummer. He rocks. 😉
That kick drum though 🔥
Nick is The man!!
One of the GOATS for sure. Ray is so down to earth and is always being creative as well. Definitely one of my favorites!
Damn I love Ray's style of playing! Master of grooves
Ray's toms sound great!
Dam Nick your too talented. And of course Ray's just a beast
Ray’s approach is exactly like mine: I have to feel it before I could ever chart it.
That drum sound tho! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I'm a simple girl. I see Ray Luzier, I click. He's one of my influences and I love the heavier sounds.

NOT a Korn fan, but Ray is a true drum monster IMO!
Ray is a beast and the bass 🙌🏾
Ray Luzier! Phenomenal drummer and totally elevates Korn rhythms to the next level.

Keep this content coming!
👍👍👍
Grooving and jamming!
Love it!
😎🤘
Nick is playing some pretty good bass! Very respectful and nice/chill dude. I think it was hilarious how he kind of “lit up” and giggled when Ray told him that he screwed up, right after the first time playing through nick’s piece(the one IN11, of course)!! 😂
OMG, these toms sound amazing
😎🤘
As a Jazz vocalist and Metal Guitar player.. my first band in highschool was with the rhythm section from Choir and Band...my drummer, best friend was a kick ass Jazz player and played quads in marching band... had chops just like Ray... great to see him doing his thing with all the different bands.. huge fan.
I love this ray luzier is amazing drummer I love his groves on the kit ray is one of my favorite drummers of all time
More of that thing please!!! I like to know about other drummers (how they find his creativity when they start with a bass, vocal guitar,.... melody, etc...)
Nick is a Master of Drumming (and Vocal, Guitar,....) too!!! (I love SPOCK´S BEARD) And I like hear this kind of Interviews :-)
Is there anything Nick D can't play?? Such a gifted musician!
MR. LUZIER IS A TOTAL GENIUS...!
I think this is the most "crossed hand" I've seen Ray play in a single video! Dude really can play equally with either hand. That's impressive!
😎🙌
Any one of those jams could feature an album and be just fantastic! Great work sweetwater, putting out content like this :D
Thank you! 😁
this awesome! shows communication and that nothing is instantaneous in music. thx for showing the thought process 👍
🙌🙌
This is a great treat! 2 talented and world class musicians.
Wow talk about putting down a groove with the groove masters. I really enjoyed watching, thank you.
Nick! Sick intro bass groove man! It’s always good to be able to move to other instruments to “see” the perspective of the other musicians.🤘Now the 11 groove🤘
One of the best in the heavy game! Such a cool video, great idea Sweetwater
😎🤘
I'm surprised Nick let Ray play the drums. Pretty cool of him to give Ray a chance to get better
Creation of music has always been fascinating to me. This was a great insight into that art.
😁🙌
That was the funnest video I have watched in a good while. Ray is one of my all time favs and Nick, wtf? U are so good on the bass. When did this happen?
what a treat! keep it up with these nice contents.
😁👍
Awesome drumsouwend!
Nick on bass?!! What! Total beast!
And on guitars, and on keys, and on piano, and on rhythm guitars, and on lead guitars, and on vocals, and obviously on drums.
Damn I would love to jam with Ray! 🤘🤘
Wow!!
Good vids great vibe here
😎🤘Thanks!
Well engineered session. I wonder who they are. Sounds so good man
This is super cool love ray, love korn, love sweetwater. Also funny thing is, I’ve ordered a esp Ltd sh 7et about 3 weeks ago. The sir headly but it’s still out stock, more on the way. And seeing ray jamming at sw only makes me want it even worse lmao. Patience is not my virtue. Ray is awesome he’s a fantastic drummer and is great for korn, an just a sick musician all around.
It'll be well worth the wait! 😁🤘
Cool!!!🤘😃🤘
🤘🤘🤘
"Can we just close out on something simple? Ouch, I feel that.
LOL! I think he meant that for himself too, so he doesn't have to work that hard. :D
That drum sound is orgasmic...
any one got any advise on how to improve your ear and feel to find the groove with the bass player.. it my biggest sticking point holdong me back. just dont seem to know what to play when im jamming with axe or bass player. i can play drums but just cant seem to play music, if that makes any sense.
Thats pretty funny where he says that they call it tribal i just call it spicing things up. I kinda do that with my grooves also
I LOVE IBANEZ BASS 1405 SR PREMUMGREY
🔥🔥
bass volume?
I'm confused about why Ray said he screwed up on the 11 track. He was hitting the 1 accurately every time.
Sweetwater how did you get such a deep tone out of those small toms?
Mic selection, gating, compressing, and good EQing.
Damn Nick is just a jack of all them trades huh? That tom thing is like a signature of Ray's by now. Edit I wrote this comment before Nick said that it was a signature Ray thing!! Great minds? Probably just a coincidence!
Lol 1:00 ........
Without thinking much deeper into it, this is the most classic, hilarious “drummer” thing ever...
Interviewer: “So what time signature were you playing in for the last 16 bars of the third verse?”
Drummer: *does this*
Would you guys consider releasing a backing track for guitar ? Downloadable or just streamed as a video? Por favor! #newgearday especially to use my new PSR archon amp and Earnie Ball guitar from Sweetwater! Love you guys
A whole channel of different backing tracks to play along with would be extremely helpful and fun for rural musicians like myself .
David Silveria is somewhere out there gettin mad everytime Ray Luzier says the word groove. lol
Silveria will always be the groove master
Why?
What?
Mario Duplantier destroys both
Korn is so cringe live now
"I don't know why" is a good sign. "I don't know why" means your subconscious is taking over.
Dang, didn’t know that Nick could jam a bass!
Rick after playing the same riff 10x. "and here is the Boss looper pedal now on sale at Sweetwater"
Maybe he can audition for Fieldys vacancy????
Need a tama !
Which HH model, and size Ride was Ray using here?
I saw on the Sabian site he uses a AA 21 inch rock ride. But in his most recent videos, I noticed it wasn't the AA ride. I had the same question.
@@Sasquatch27 Hey thanks! Yeah this is clearly an HH model of some sort. Sounds good.
Could be a HH rock ride or HH heavy ride. More than likely.
It’s a HH 22” rock ride. 100%. He never leaves home without it!
22" HH Rock Ride. This and the 21 AA Rock Ride are the rides he almost used on every record.
When Korn meets Spock's Beard! I can die in peace now 😧😱😱😱😧😧😱😱😱😧😧😍😍😍😍
Cymbal setup?
The bass could be a tad louder in this.
I swear it looked like Keith Carlock in the screen cap
No charts. Play by ears... right.😊🙃😉😅🤣🤣😁😁😁😄😀😂😆😉🙃😊
@8:25 "those are the 3 bass players I play with on a regular bass-is" - no pun intended?
Make a video like this with Brooks Wackerman
My nana said she met him at old tombstone for a mwr thing
Hey I didnt know that bass player plays drums to
how is the orange 8x10 upside down? haha
Too heavy to turn over and sounds the same? Haha
