I'm just "reachin' out" here but I surely miss the sound of the 1960's, growing up in Lansing MI, [my cousin went to the state blind school there with Stevie wonder! and I didn't know it lol] being brought together by all kinds of music, and this song has got to be one for the greatest. Here's to the days of AM radio where you could hear almost everything worthwhile and thumbs down to the 80 bazillion separate channels by the media today that separate us all in more ways than just music.
Just absolutely live this song from my teen years. James and Bobby Purify have a song called I'M YOUR PUPPET from the same era. Memories are made with music like this, stays with us a lifetime...
Yes! The Four Tops, another great male group back in the early days. A few of my favorite: I Can't Help Myself( Sugar Pie Honey Bunch), Still Water, It's The Way Nature Planned It.
Dig those moves! And that bass line is definitionally groovy. Motown! The songs were mostly in house, so no foul on the Jackson 5. When you're ready for more from The Four Tops check out "Bernadette", "Baby I Need Your Loving", and "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" among others from the sixties, and from the seventies "Ain't No Woman (Like The One I've Got)" really shines too.
I'm excited that you've discovered The Four Tops!! One of favorite groups of all times!! They have soooo many great songs to hear!! Please continue to explore their song list of great hits and you'll be smiling and singing them!!
I was born and raised in Southwest Louisiana as well as my dad. My mom was from Detroit and I was raised on this kind of music 🎶 Brings back good memories.
This is the music I grew up with so I love how you respect it so much! They all wore suits in the 60's. I'm sure it had to do with not trying to be "radical" to the TV viewing audience. But, they took it to a new level in the 70's when the suits became more fashion statements than compliance.
Love the Four Tops! Levi Stubbs voice was so unique, not many people covered the their songs. I love the song Bernadette. When he sings Bernadette I know women swooned all over the world.
When I was a teenager I had a job at a wrecking yard tearing down motors and labeling the parts in the hot sun. I would have the radio going and I always loved it when this song would come on. Nothing like the old soul and motown sound to bring you up.
I remember this all over the airwaves. Im 60. This is the music that hits your soul. Music that has a message a love song that the young people today just dont make anymore. No cursing not about money. God i miss this type of music. Even us white people can feel. Keep on listening to Motown brother.
#NoLimitNation Love the Four Tops! They have a deep catalog of great songs! Please do “Baby, I Need Your Loving” next by them. This is one of my favorites! Keep on discovering, Bro!
golden age of soul music right there. so many great artists putting out some incredible stuff the Four Tops had a lot of great ones....i'd recommend 'Bernadette'....KILLER bass line in that one. man Levi has a VOICE. hey...rent the movie 'Little Shop of horrors' and listen to the plant's voice. sound familiar ;0)
This is when music would bring people together. The songs were saying things that we wanted to say to someone we loved but couldn't find the words. Thanks again Twon, for another great choice to do a reaction to.
Ahhh wonderful, beautiful, iconic Motown…it helped to get my love of music started. Not only am I your “other mother”…I’m your (very pale) soul sister…😉🤣🙏
Your killin it with the Motown greats ! Reactions are 🔥 I d Definitely agree with Motown Monday’s ! That was a great catch by you. I’m sure it was a tip of the hat by Michael.
I love all those old Motown records. I had at least 100 Motown 45's back "in the olden days" as our (now adult) kids will put it. You might like to get into some of those, too. Here are a couple to get you started down the Motown rabbit hole: The Supremes - "Stop! In The Name of Love" The Temptations - "My Girl" with one of the most iconic intros in rock & roll. Jamerson's bass and Robert White's brilliant guitar line make this as instantly recognisable as anything in rock. Add "Papa Zita" and the rest of The Funk Brothers and you've got one of the greatest backing bands in modern American music. The first thing that grabbed me about this song was that unmistakable, propulsive groove of Jamerson's bass. James Jamerson is, without question in my mind, the most important, most influential bass player in the history of American music. Jamerson's inventive style has been cited by the likes of John Entwistle (The Who), Sir Paul McCartney (The Beatles, Wings), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Chris Squire (Yes), Lemmy (Motorhead), Bootsy Collins (P-Funk), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and even the man I consider the greatest to come along since Jamerson, Geddy Lee (Rush) and a whole host of others too numerous to mention here.
O Sing It Baby! Now, these were Men ~ Gentlemen singing some fine soul. Dressed to the Nines with the Smooth Moves. Our Generation was spoiled, we had the best! The Motown Sound! I only drop in to listen to the music! Ciao ~ Peace Itia ~!
Hi @No Limit Twon!!! Glad to see you enjoy this classic!!! Great ear to hear the similar lyrics!!! I never noticed similar lyrics/chorus between the J5 “I’ll be there” and this. The lyrics are different though. Same sentiment however. IMHO Both groups were in Berry Gordy’s Music Machine so could be that is where the similarities originated. I remember as a child when fam played the clean up music on Saturday’s I thought that sound was a horse galloping. Have you reacted to “Ain’t no Woman like the one I got” by the Four Tops? Think it may have you in your feels a tiny bit. If not… I highly recommend!!!🗳🗳🗳🗳🗳 Mr. Levi Stubbs (R🎙P) voice is another from that era a person never forgets.
Here's a list Of songs by Smokey Robinson, Baby Come Close, Crusin, The love l saw in you was just a Mirage. The words From my heart got caught up in my throat. I could go on.
Motown regularly fused lyrics and had multiple groups singing the same song. But the J5 I'll be There and this were penned by 2 different writers. They all worked for Motown.
Wow, the Four Tops.. They were ALL THAT way back when I was a lil girl Twon... A great Motown male group.. But, for real without Levi Stubbs , the lead singer, the group would not have been as fire... He had a damn POWERFUL voice.. You knew it was the four tops, just on the strength of Levi's voice.. Plus, he was a fine black male too, which added to the hype... Check out more of the tops hit... They were AWESOME, Twon.. Alot of old skool radio stations use to do singing group contests.. It was ususally the four tops against Temptations... Trust me the tops ALWAYS won... And yeah, you right, The Jackson 5 got their lyrics from this here song... Hugs..💜🧡💚💛🤎💙💕
Wow, you have unleashed the best with The Four Tops. Keep it up. I grew up in the 60s loving this Motown group and have seen all tours they did to Sydney Australia. You have just tipped the Ice berg.
The great Levi Stubbs. 💖💖⚡
Proof that your grandparents were cool!
The Four Tops were my favorite male Motown group and Levi is the man!!!
Levi Stubbs' beautiful voice is what made The Four Tops my favorite group.
Mine too, I grew up in Detroit in the 60's, it's was a magical time for music!
Very true. This was a true class act.
They all worked for Motown...Barry Gordy encouraged Michael to say 'just look over your shoulder, honey'

“B-E-R-R-Y Gordy.”
Levi Stubbs spontaneously threw in the part "Just look over your shoulder!" He was excellent at adding things from his heart.
Just absolutely live this song from my teen years. James and Bobby Purify have a song called I'M YOUR PUPPET from the same era. Memories are made with music like this, stays with us a lifetime...
I was raised on this music; Four Tops, Temptations, and all the rest; classic!
The harmonies were so good 60s and 70s and the songs that told a story.
60’s and 70’s R&B was on the radio everywhere! These are the songs I grew up with and loved. 😁❤️. Do more.
Motown baby
Same.
Two totally different songs, but the Jackson 5 used the "just look over your shoulder" line sort of as a tip of the cap to the Four Tops.
I was gonna say that so thank you.
Jackson 5 also recorded "Reach Out"!
Oh puh leazze! No comparison to the Four Tops!!
Twon, this was a time when people had self-respect; pride; and “Dressing” was a standard.
Exactly
100%
Yup
CHARLES WRIGHT & THE WATTS 103RD STREET RHYTHM BAND "EXPRESS YOURSELF"..AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC.
Love Land was one of my favorite songs by this group.
@@lindamathias6230 For Me,, It's Always Been A Tie,, Both Great Tunes.

When music can be a life-line....DAMN!
My gosh, memories ❤️😁
One of the many great Motown groups of that time - I'm glad I was around to hear them all, and the Tops were one of the best.
I'm excited that you've discovered The Four Tops!! One of favorite groups of all times!! They have soooo many great songs to hear!! Please continue to explore their song list of great hits and you'll be smiling and singing them!!

Those suits were sharp and on point.
Love the Four Tops! Levi Stubbs voice was so unique, not many people covered the their songs. I love the song Bernadette. When he sings Bernadette I know women swooned all over the world.
My favorite song, Bernadette! Levi Stubbs was married to one woman for 43 years! That’s a good man!
Back when songs used to make one feel the lyrics. They speak to you. I'm fan of oldies though I favor many music genres.
So nowwe feel how we felt then but not today...make sense? And Biden sucks...lol
@@michaelasay6140 I want to go back in time!
When I was a teenager I had a job at a wrecking yard tearing down motors and labeling the parts in the hot sun. I would have the radio going and I always loved it when this song would come on. Nothing like the old soul and motown sound to bring you up.
Wish I could like this a hundred times!! I like this time machine of yours Twon sweetie. I'm 20 again and life is fabulous!
I remember this playing at the end of the movie Cooley High....love this song!!
Absolutely love the Four Tops, The Temptations 😍
Motown has shaped all of music and what a great influence they were. The genius of Berry Gordy
To be a black empire of soul ✌️😎
One of the 🐐, The Four Tops hav hits for days
I lived right by Detroit and these were the best times!! Love them
Classic 60s Motown music. It's always great dancing music too. Man, those were the days.

My favorite group out of Motown!!!!! The voice of Levi Stubbs was so fantastic, and they were so good as a group. They have such a deep catalog, too.
this was good music and real soul music.
Do a reaction to a group called The Friends of Distinction they did two songs.
"Grazing in the Grass" and "Going in Circles" both came out 1969.
don't forget 'love or let me be lonely'....incredible song
Yessss
Yes!! Grazing in the Grass; their cover of the original by Hugh Masekela is fantastic 😊 That cowbell!

Yes! My favourite of theirs too.
Ahhh Levi Stubbs my favorite Motown singer
The four tops and the Temptations owned Motown back then. Awesome singers.
Thanks for this-takes me back
I saw these guys in Vegas at MGM Grand in 95/96.....and they were awesome!!!! A night I will NEVER forget!!!
React to Wake Me Shake Me, by the Four Tops. Young man you have tapped into one of the greatest groups.
Thank you, Thank you!!
The Tops were always a winning proposition. Levi Stubbs is a KILLER lead voice. ✌😘🎶🎺🎷🎸🔥💞
Melody, harmony and so much soul.
Hard to beat the Motown sound!! Many of us grew up in a great era for great music!!
Love this
Gotta love Motown. 😊😊
Love this song.
Something about the tone of this song that is special
Another great memory of the 60s.
Mm, I needed this on my soul today. ❤️

That's sweet! 🥰🥰
In 1967 Soul was kicking it. The Temps, The Tops, Otis, Smokey, the wicked Mr. Pickett, and the list goes on.
Woot!!! Love Motown! ❤️❤️
Your killin it with the Motown greats ! Reactions are 🔥 I d
Definitely agree with Motown Monday’s ! That was a great catch by you. I’m sure it was a tip of the hat by Michael.
This was my Auntie favorite group along with Smokey Robinson🎶✊🏾👍🏾
Brings back memories. Still have some Four Tops 45s in my vinyl collection.
Thanks for reacting to the classy Four Tops. So many great hits. Please react to their song Bernadette(my favorite),
RIP Levi Stubbs, what a voice 🎼🎶🎤

His facial expressions are hilarious 😅
Stylistics “You Make Me Feel Brand New” and Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)
Everyone needs to know that Levi was only 30 years old when he performed this
Motown produced so many gems. Levi Stubbs and the Four Tops were just one of the best. Great song!
Motown regularly fused lyrics and had multiple groups singing the same song. But the J5 I'll be There and this were penned by 2 different writers. They all worked for Motown.
56 years ago, the Four Tops released their 4th album "Reach Out".
The J5 borrowed from this tune for "I'll Be There". Motown acts often borrowed from each other
Brilliant choice and reaction Twon ♡♡♡

This is a big song......................................it carries a lotta water.
Classic Classic Classic
Levi Stubbs,, the lead singer was only 31 when he recorded this song
Nice catch, Twon! Hadn't thought about the Jackson 5 lyric, but now will think of it every time that I hear it!
Levy Stubbs imo the greatest of Motowns male singers.😀
.My brothers favorite grouup.
The reality is that WE did it first no matter who says what or who samples what.
I love this song , thank you
Twon; makes you want to go back in time, doesn’t it?
Awesome group.
They were all from MOTOWN and everybody sang everybody else's sings!!!
Diana Ross and the Supremes "Love Child"
heard this song first time 1967 haunting intro
Me too. Was just a little boy then. But those harmonies really caught me.
Hugely famous song. 💕 Every time I hear it I think of the scene from the movie “Cooley High”. 😟
Thank you for this one! The 60s was really a special time musically, and Motown was really rich with talent from the late 50s through the 80s.
This song was played in the movie Cooley High
Wow, you have unleashed the best with The Four Tops. Keep it up. I grew up in the 60s loving this Motown group and have seen all tours they did to Sydney Australia.
You have just tipped the Ice berg.
I just caught that like you did , a Jackson 5 song has same words but sounds so diff , I love it
Oh look, when performers still had class!
So. Damn. Good!
They were my favorite Motown performers; Levi Stubbs was the best.❤️
We had the best music back then.
Still waters, keeper of the castle by the four tops
