I love the fact that people call Walt “ rascist” when in fact he spreads his anger at ALL people equally. No one is spared his fury. And yet his actions like saving the girl tells the real character inside.

Are you saying being racist to everyone isn't racist? Also, saving the girl doesn't refute this, one can be racist and still be convicted by their sense of duty to save others. You think there aren't racist doctors, surgeons, firefighters, soldiers......etc.?

@@natewashington5283 ... I think we've seen a lot of people react to this movie and seem appalled at his behavior. He is a racist, I'll agree with that. But I think he has more character for doing something, than people that speak 'correctly' and do nothing. I've experienced racism and I've committed it myself. But it's never broken me. I'm made of sterner stuff than to worry about what someone may think about me. I'm also a vet, and we all said some racist shit, to everybody. Nobody crumbled over it. You took it and you gave it. In the end, we were all brothers. People today are soft, they're fucking soft.

Many do not understand that this generation existed. I am talking of the WW2/Korean war era vets. Not all were mean necessarily, but they would not tolerate disrespect and would certainly meet force with force. His character in this movie was even more so on edge as he was depressed at the loss of his wife and the drastic changes in his community. Great movie.

Anytime my brother and I were at the clubhouse Tiny would happily become our atm, tell a stupid joke or do a trick, get quarters, back to the pin all machine or the deer hunting game. He just wanted kids to have fun, and believe it or not a child's smile really does brighten ones day.

He called the kid an "ofay paddy-ass", which was a combination of VERY old racial slurs. "Ofay" was a term used by slaves and freed blacks to describe white people, usually gays, that liked to engage in interracial relationships. It was mostly used in the Deep South and started showing up in language outside the South in the late 1800's, post Civil War. Historically a "paddy" was a derogatory term for an Irishman, usually used by the English but became popular across Europe and North America during the Napoleonic Wars.

There is a lot of truth to that movie scene, if you were a white boy/man walking through a black neighborhood just to take a short cut to get to where you were going, either home, school or work, a lot of the older people or non gang affiliated people in the neighborhood would be ok seeing you walk through the neighborhood, it’s the younger gang affiliated people that were always the problem, they would ask you why you are there, telling you that you are lost and then proceed to try to jump you, all because you were just walking through the neighborhood and wanted no problems with anyone.
It happened to a lot of friends and some family members of mine, they would warn myself and others as kids to never walk through those certain neighborhoods because you might not walk out alive.
You didn’t have to be fully white either, you just have to have light skin and be any other ethnicity other than black for them to fully mess with you.
Then again they would also hate to see rival gang members who were also black walking around in their neighborhood or anyone black that they have not seen before.
Most gangs in the inner cities kinda operate the same way too, if they don’t know who you are and haven’t seen you in their neighborhood before, they will step up to you and question/threaten you.

Cause that's how racism works. They showcase when it's against them and ignore when Walt does it to his own color of people. Walt isn't racist, he hates everyone equally. The reactors are racist, because they make a bigger deal over one race than the others.

Actually bro, i grew up around alot of Walt types in Central Illinois in the 1970s...alot of color language and old stories from the 19 teens when they were young😂we didn't much go by words cause believe it or not, back then, i heard whites calling other whites the n word more than it was directed at me😂we went by how much they paid us😂if it was the same as the white kids, they were cool with us, we'd call them names back😅typically within 6 months, they were calling us by our names😂

Someone called Mr. Eastwood an overrated actor. Based on that remark or comment, my guess is that they have had limited exposure to his work. Gran Torino is well written, directed, and performed. A great group of actors, who was so believable. Maybe he was or wasn't racist. Regardless, he didn't appear to put forth any effort to improve the harmony in the neighborhood and community, until the end of the film.

These kids are not real gangsters. If they were, Walt would have been in trouble the moment he got out of his vehicle; gun-or-no-gun. The kids portrayed here are just neighborhood, misguided knuckleheads, hanging out wasting their lives, potential, and opportunities. The average bully in any rough school district carry on in the same manner, but most likely is not a gangster, but is a JERK, and probably heading to jail, or more.
