    Halibut is a fish best in the oven in a Pyrexx dish butter, garlic , creamer , lemon , capers served w/ garlic mashed potatoes.

      It’s because of the price and how rare they were when we filmed this video. Now that we have the Calissa lures, it doesn’t hurt as bad because they’re not as expensive 😅

    The break off was not your fault. Over time braid in the surf sand rubs and it exposes the lines coating. Then fine granules of sand actually pack into the exposed braid and you eventually get sand paper line that both dries out, breaks , or scars your rods guides at the same time. Braid just cuts to easy and its also ineffective dragging over rocky areas along reefy and or kelp areas on the beach which is prime for big halibut Solution Copolymer line that gives you the mono feel and the strength of braid. braid like power pro isnt cheap either.
    As for the Treble hooks ever thought about swapping out to two single inline VMC hooks. Check out the VMC single inline Stock #7226 designed to specifically replace trebles. Its so much easier to deal with a single hook vs a fish thrashings about with multiple trebles. You can see the pattern on a Rapala Coastal series lure and just repeat the same pattern on other hard baits.
    Super nice halibut to find from the surf a #12lb 30 inch is not your typical beach keeper . Ideal size for max fillets and eating quality as well. basically a perfect fish.

    • @Hook2Cook
      @Hook2Cook  5 років тому

      @@Hook2Cook Might also be interested in the 2020 MTF surf fishing contest in S.F. This year the pay out for biggest striped bass is expected to be $5,000 cash. There is also a big perch division and a accuracy contest and probably more this year as the tournament expands. Serious merchants will be present like ODM( Makes super high end custom surf rods and gear), reps from Daiwa, Shimano, Penn , Van Stahl etc and they all put in prizes including rods and reels. there is a drawing for gear as well. This is the tournament you want to win if your into surf fishing. The reps often want recognized anglers to test merchandise .
      We also host a yearly Sand crab classic perch contest here in Santa Cruz, Ca in March which has become California's biggest surf fishing contest. This is a more family orientated contest but their is prizes and a BBQ dinner but spaces are limited to 300 on the Sand crab classic.

      Thanks so much! Trout might be tough right now unless you’re going out before th sun comes up. Trout is usually late fall to spring, but ultimately getting on the water with the boys will be loads of fun. The crappie should be biting pretty good right now. Maybe ask the baitshop where the crappie are hiding. If you find them, they’ll be in big schools so the boys will get multiple fish
