- Watching Dark, it's easy to think that there are a few suitcase time machines floating around. Things get a little more complicated, and a little more fun, when you realize these are all the SAME time machine, just at different points in its timeline.
Dark gives us a lot of clues and sometimes explicitly shows us how the time machine changes hands over the decades. Join me as I try to unravel this "knot" and trace the time machine's journey from its creation all the way through to its end!

It's crazy that they had 5 different time "machines".
1. The passage
2. The box
3. Noah's chair in the bunker
4. The God particle
5. The sphere

Very cool aspect of the show. Love the different iterations and how we slowly remove limitations... at first its only 33 year increments through the tunnel, then its any time with the god particle, then its any time + any world with the sphere (and its portable too!)
@@OneTakeVids While limitations were removed, we also saw them added before the time machines were made and after. Broken box that had to be fixed as well as original plans obtained from Eves world. Passage not built. Passage destroyed. Chair in test phase killing subjects. God particle unstable or inactive. Each a puzzle to be figured out and each helping to create the other.
I thought the God particle is the sphere! Or is it different?

We could have used a scene showing older Bartosz in 1920 giving the time machine to Claudia. It would have made a good reason for Adam to order his death.
He probably joined Claudia in one of the infinite iterations of the cycle and that's why Adam orders his death before it would happen. As we're led to believe, things CAN be changed between one cycle and another and that's why Adam, Eva and the Trio have to "maintain" it in some way while trying to reach their goals (either destroying the knot or keeping it going). He lost faith in Jonas/Adam a long time before, he was bound to do something that would've damaged Sic Mundus in some way. I like to think Bartosz DID give Claudia the time machine once and was killed after doing so, then after that he got killed before he could even do that and Claudia has to retrieve the time machine directly from Sic Mundus as we see during her last meeting with her younger self.
I think he ordered his death because Bartosz was constantly questioning him and he knew he did not believe him. Then Bartosz saw Sija his future wife come in, and Adam sent her to the future, that could have triggered him as well to doubt Adam even more wanting to help the other side.
At 3:45 you say that Eva visits Hannah to tell her where to find Jonas, and that "still in possession of the time machine, Hannah heads to 1911." Just so people don't get confused by this, she did still have the suitcase time machine with her when she went back to 1911, but she can't have actually used it to make that trip--the suitcase time machine can only travel in 33 or 66 year increments, and clearly Eva didn't visit Hannah in 1944 (before the date Hannah traveled back to and met Egon) or 1977 (Silja would be too old by then). So, we can guess that Eva gave Hannah and Silja a ride with the golden ball time machine, which didn't have any limits on the size of its jumps.
Good point! Although Hannah is in possession of the suitcase time machine, it could not have taken her to 1911. As you said, the most likely explanation is Eva giving them a ride with the orb. Thanks for putting this clarification here!
But then hannah used the machine twice to travel 66 years back?..
@@OneTakeVids That's official, check out the official Dark website, the section about Hannah: after her relationship with Egon, Hannah went to '80s (via time machine, 33+ from the '50s), gave birth to Silja and about five years later alt-middle-Martha not only told her where Jonas is, but brought Hannah and her daughter to him (via time travel orb that can jump to any time in any of two worlds).
@@aaryanaa7736 It can travel in 33 year increments, so 33, 66, 99 etc. It's like the cave, it links from 2020 to 1987 and also 1954.
How did Hannah use the machine to go from 2020 to 1954 ?
Remember that apparently when Old Claudia uses the machine she doesnt need a phone to activate it. Maybe it was modified sometime ???
When Jonas arrives in 1921, there does appear to be a modified/prototype version of the machine on one of the tables in the Sic Mundus headquarters.
@OneTake: check out the finale at about 26 min in, the last conversation between old and middle Claudia in destroyed Adam's lair - and you'll see the moment when old Claudia put the time machine in her backpack (the golden handle is clearly visible). That's "the one" that ran out of fuel, "the one" that middle Jonas and his friends travelled with to 1888. and get stuck there. Then, they get "another one" via Hannah, the "one" that works; that "one" will be passed to Noah and then to Bartosz. The "one without fuel" remains in the lair until post-apocalypse, and it remains without fuel; old Claudia takes it and brings it with her, she travels to the past via orb or God's particle to do everything we saw season 1-2. First (and only?) time she uses the time machine though - that's in the caves under the nuclear plant with her middle self (1987), and we actually see her taking "the fuel" from the barrels. She gives the map to youger Claudia, then jumps to '50s via time machine, and there the machine gets burried so her younger self can dig it out in 1987. The rest is in your video: the machine stays with Claudia, gets broken in the bunker because of the apocalypse, and many years later she passes it to middle Jonas, who will bring it to Tannhaus in 1986, ending the circle, which is also the beginning - that's how Tannhaus completes "the new one"; Jonas takes "that one", Hannah gets it from him, then brings it to Adam's lair when she comes with Silja.
Ahhhh you solved it!! I spent so much time trying to spot the moment Older Claudia acquires the time machine and there it is. Makes so much sense now. This is the scene where younger Claudia asks her to tell Egon she's sorry. So, Older Claudia is about to take her trip through time to complete the cycle by handing the time machine down to her younger self. In this scene, she grabs the machine, heads back and follows the steps you described. Wow, thanks for pointing this out! Nice find!

I'm still confused, in 1987, claudia uses the time machine without cellphone, meanwhile the time machine that middle Jonas and his friends travelled with to 1888 needs a cellphone. Did someone upgrade the machine??

- it was bought by Tannhaus, father of the blind man for his wife Charlotte
- after blind Tannhaus was killed, the unknown gave it to Eva
- Noah gave it to young Elisabeth
- Elisabeth and Charlotte gave it together with baby Charlotte to Tannhaus
- Charlotte got it by Tannhaus in 80s when he told her the story of his son and how she was brought to him
What i don't know is:
- how Noah got it (happened offscreen, so maybe Eve-World-Noah gave it to Elisabeth)
- What happend to Charlotte's watch she got in the 80s by Tannhaus

Since the finale I have been rewatching the series to track the Time Machine, the St Christopher pendant and the Triquetra Notebook. Thank to this awesome video now I only have the Notebook to track!

So basically, both the time machine and the pokeball originate from Eva's world. Eva knew about Adam's word but not vice versa. Looks like technology is more advanced over at Eva's.
Jane Choy not exactly. Eva got the plans from The Unknown who stolen them from Adam’s office before he burned it. Adam made the plans because he had already the device.

Good stuff. Appreciate the effort required in figuring all this out. DARK is one of the most intriguing (albeit confusing, frustrating) time-space travel paradox series. The characters are memorable, especially when you watch the show in German ( English subtitles). I was maintaining notes tracking the various characters and timelines. Yet I still got confused on several occasions. Worth it all with a fantastic final episode.
Starting the video, I'm sceptical about how he tracked it. The best I could come up with is "there must be two time machines". Edit: Oh! I hadn't noticed the change of hands in 1911! That's some good attention to detail right there. So awesome.

I think we see something I think seems like an incomplete/prototype Tannhaus machine with Adam in 1920. So I was under the impression that Adam had made one and tannhaus had made one. Also because there's times that the machine doesn't use a cellphone to travel, but outfitting/upgrading it with a cellphone receiver seems very trivial and easily doable.
@@Blackspidy619 The one we see there is reverse engineered leading to the Chair design. You see the copper wrapped inductors that the chair has.

I have an idea about your 2nd assumption.
The apocalypse in s2e8 damages the machine owned by Stranger, so they have a broken machine in 1888, it's not that they are just missing a radioactive fuel for it.
Old Claudia with the orb gets her machine from Eva's world, so alt-HGT was also given the blueprint. However, alt-Ulrich didn't leave his phone at alt-HGT's shop, so it doesn't require a mobile phone to operate.

Its such an amazing show. While only one was ever made, there are still several suitcase time machines in existence at once at some points of time eg.. stranger Jonas would still have the one that took them all from 2020 back to 1888 when Hannah arrives with hers. I'm not entirely convinced by your theory of how/ when Claudia got hold of it but I don't have any better ideas! Great job!
Thanks Helen! I went into it hoping there'd be a very clear path for the time machine that could be solved like a puzzle. To some degree that's true but sadly there were the Claudia and Noah points where (unless someone else finds some clues that I missed) the best we can do is make educated guesses! Fun exercise either way.
Claudia has an Apple device for 13 years. It can take her anywhere anywhen. By deducting what needs to happen and the info we have, Claudia stealing the "extra" device at one point is the only solution. It may be assumption but it is also the only possibility.

Thank you Gill, this sheds a light not only on the box-type machine, but series as well. We can presume that apple-machine we see in the show is also only one piece, circling through centuries of alt-world, occassionally jumping to prime-world. Reconstructing its path though would be impossible. Third type is the one with stabilized God particle, which I presume can only enable travel through time in particular world, not between worlds, same as box type. The fourth one is Noah's chair, but is unclear why he is making it since Adam already gave him this box-type machine. Maybe that chair-type is some intermediate version between simple God particle version on one side and box-type (apple-type) on other side, and Noah needs to continue experimenting with it, even though he has one box-type in his hands already. Fifth machine is the cave, which is kind of energy catalizator igniting up when postion of planets is aligned properly every 33 years, but somebody still needs to put some cesium in it, this is mentioned by alt-Claudia explaining it to prime-Claudia. Thanks for the kind words as always! And nice job summarizing the many other time travel devices floating around. I do think you're right about the chair time machine - its essentially a stepping stone to the more advanced time machines. Even though they already have the more advanced machines in another time, they still need to go through the motions of the interim device so the more advanced machines can exist (similar to how Jonas must go through all of his life's experiences so he can become Adam).
Very detailed explanation of all these types of time machines! I have had similar theories about some of these but you definitely put it in a more complete way.
Although I was always curious as to how Eve's world possess technologies that are clearly much more advanced than those from Adam's world. It seems that triquetra notebook and blueprints of the box time-machine both originate in Eve's world, not to mention the apple-machine which not only allows you to travel to any time point but through both worlds.
One of the fan theory I have heard is that the Unknown trio was responsible for all of these as he is some kind of prodigy, or the "chosen one" who was born with these knowledge. What do you think of that?
@@charlieliu1180 we can only speculate as alt-world development is not presented in the show as prime-world is. Especially Unknown, is least developed character, which is pity as it would be very important to see his relations, especially with his mom Martha, and what is his motivation to preserve the knot... I personally doubt Unknown is the reason why alt-world has advanced technology. I think, and feel, that difference in technology comes from the inherent difference of qualities of these two worlds. Jonas' world - Dark, Martha's world - Light. Basic duallities. Dark world is world where masculine quality dominates, whereas feminine quality dominates in Light world. (these do not have any relation with sex by the way). Basic quality which goes with masculinity is logic, among others like analysis, strength, source, will, Sun... On the feminine side its intuition, synthesis, reflection, nourishment, energy, Moon... So, when it comes to technology, modern world is based on logic, as education focuses itself primerilly on analysis and logic, but it is slow and inert. Whereas, intuition is fast and potent, but somewhat unstable which is unfortunately one of the reasons why it is totally discarded by modern education, so very hard to be "understood" by modern human since it cant be understood, it must be felt. To get back to our show, Light world, Eva's world, is simply faster and more potent in technology breakthrough since feminine quality dominates there. Adam is slow, he needs always to stop, think, stare at his painting ;)...
@@milosvitin It's got nothing to do with masculine or femenine. Adam's world is all about keeping secrets and lying, Eva's world is all about having everything known and cooperation. Adam moves his pieces by manipulation and ofuscation, he never tells his younger selves anything, they are all "in the dark". Eva is the complete opposite, she shares everything with her younger selves and the rest of Erit Lux (the only exception is the version of herself that she needs to die on the hands of Adam), they are all "illuminated".
Evas world is ahead of “time.” Everything happens faster, earlier and quicker there, compared to Adam’s world. Regina is already dead, Mikkel is older, Magnus’ relationship already advanced, Torbin’s injury not just a flesh wound but a missing limb (I saw Holy Grail yesterday 🤪). I also think every insight into the duality is correct or edifying. There’s no right or wrong but mirror reflections of each other. Add another dimension to the mirrors and they multiply, indefinitely.

Assuming the machine is never transported outside the 33 year cycle, then the old broken machine is exactly 132 years older that the brand new machine sitting side by side on Tannhaus' desk.
It went from the Stranger to Hanna to scarred Stranger in the first 33 years, then to Noah to the kids to the Stranger (stuck in 1888) to adult Claudia who keeps it for the rest of those 33 years (she must have used the orb to get it, so we assume she comes back without skipping back or ahead), then old Claudia has it burried for the next 33 years, then finally it spends the remaining 33 years broken in the post-apocalypse.
So the machine worked fine for over 99 years with only 1 hiccup when it was used mid-apocalypse. Taunnhaus was a damn good engineer!

I mean, I knew there was only one time machine. The whole passing back and forth of it reminds me of an old movie called "What's Up , Doc?" where a MacGuffin bag slides around a careening bus with a similar bag until you just have to say "Well, they'll just explain it later." Frankly, when the far sleeker Apple Time Machine shows up, the Suitcase Time Machine seems less important. There's a time, isn't there, where there are three, maybe four Time Machines in the same timeline. One buried, one with young Jonas, one with Katharina....and maybe another. Thanks for straightening this out. Wanna take a stab at the Pfenning necklace, next?

Thank you so much for the video! My personal conundrum is to understand when the so called "cycle" starts and when it ends. Assuming that when the watchmaker/time machine maker pushed those two buttons simultaneously, he created two additional and parallel worlds, the world of Martha and the world of Adam. So when these two world were created, I assume that the all the inhabitants of these worlds felt like their worlds had existed forever, even though that they didn't exist just a moment ago. I get that. But what is the actual cycle? When does it end and when does the next one begin??....If you could make a video on that, that would be great!
I was wondering about this too. I felt like the whole cycle thing was only an illusion since for most of the characters and the audience everything is happening just that one time, the so called "last cycle". But Claudia seems to be the one that was able to break from it, so there might have been a cycle repeating but as you said where was the end or the beginning? And also when the two worlds were created, only the past of those worlds are affected when the travelers go back as far as 1800s?
Thanks for the kind words! I think the "cycle" just refers to the fact that the events we witness occur over and over again in a "cycle". Since it's essentially a circle, it's hard to define an actual beginning or end. For example, you can pick any points on the circle and it works. You could arbitrarily say that the moment Jonas and Martha find the St. Christopher necklace at the lake is the beginning and end of the cycle since they will find themselves at that moment... experience the events in the remainder of the cycle and then once again find themselves in that moment (an infinite number of times). However, when Older Jonas is in the bunker with Peter, Hannah, and Elisabeth in season 2, he explains that Adam wants another cycle to start in a few days. He seems to be referring to the day the apocalypse will occur. So, although the cycle does not have a definitive beginning or end point, it seems that Adam at least considers the apocalypse as the beginning / end of the cycle. So, each time an apocalypse occurs, that's the end of one cycle and the beginning of another... though considering it loops infinitely, even the ideas of individual cycles is sort of arbitrary. Anyway, those are my thoughts!

The entire timeline in both worlds sprang into existence fully formed in an instant. Everything had already happened the moment it existed.
Beginning - End, and its time cycles is the most important subject for me regarding this show. Schrodinger cat thought experiment in my interpretation concludes that whenever somebody out of certain space-time domain interferes with any of its particular element, that domain is split in 2 sub-worlds i.e. two new space-time domains are created. In one Cat is dead, in another Cat is alive. In the rest of the post, instead using term space-time domain I will simply say a world.
Lets presume a world has its beginning and end - 1 cycle. Starting with Big bang and ending in some certain way (don't want to open that subject), lets just call that ending point Dissolving. In our show “origin world”, Tannhaus makes a mess, his machine destroys (split) that world - instantaneous dissolving and establishment resulting in two new sub-worlds - Jonas prime world and Martha’s alt world. All three worlds are separate space-time domains. They have same starting point big bang, but has their own independent history - complete past, present and future, with different ending points. Origin world ends in its year of 1986. Prime world and Alt world end in their year 2053. All three worlds are in play within certain lap of which glimpse showrunners are showing us like the 3-way bridge - quantum entanglement of these worlds where space-time does not exist or better we say its not applicable. So, it allows observing of any event within world at any point of time. Showrunners present this with two of such observations - one on child Martha through the closet, another on child Jonas at the stairs. We can call that 3-way bridge, that lap where space-times are in play, a darkness, pure consciousness, infinite mind, or simply God, however anybody likes.
In alt-world year 2019 Jonas tackles Martha, they go to prime world cave, and from there they go to origin world using quantum entanglement. Their destination in origin world is year 1971 and they decide to interfere. As per Schrodinger cat thought experiment, and my interpretation mentioned above, Jonas and Martha “open the box” and thus make new split. In one direction they don’t make a change, Marek and Sonja dies and origin world continues on and will be destroyed by Tannhaus in 1986. In another one they make a change, save Marek and Sonja and new world is created while everybody and everything in prime and alt worlds are dissolving in its complete history - so we see Jonas in 1888 dissolving and we see also Adam and Eva in 2053 dissolving. What further happens with consciousness of each our character is another subject ;). Hope this theory is not so confusing one. God bless.

Sounds very reasonable to me and is kind of impressing on your part AND the showrunners part to keep track of it.
Although I have to wonder about a remark Bartosz made in 1890 about their arrival. Didnt he say that Jonas didnt expect them to arrive so far back and that their device got damaged? I might be wrong there, but I wonder if jumping 132 (2x66) years back during the apocalypse was what burned out the machine. But that might be really hard to line up with the rest of the time line for the time machine.
This time machine is made ic Germany, not made in China. It doesn't break after 2x66 years travel.
He didn't say the time machine got broken. He though said something as " It is hard to find nuclear energy in 1880." So I assume they didn't have nuclear fuel for it to travel again. That's why Junas's only option was the God Particle/Tunnels
I wondered the same thing. Specially because Stranger Jonas mentioned to Hannah that is safer to travel inside the cave, and when he used it to save future Sic Mundus from the apocalypse it’s the only time the machine is used outside of the caves. I imagined thats why the machine broke and also why they traveled so far back.
The cesium mass expansion was quadrupled by the energy of the Apocalypse, that is why they jumped 33*4. The device is still functional, but they have no cesium in 1888 (This is explicitly stated in dialogue). It doesn't break until Mid Age Claudia brings it to the Bunker during the apocalypse.
@@cupperdigger3494 This is correct. Jumping back to the 19th century left them with a time machine that was effectively out of gas. I imagine they threw it in a closet or used it as a fancy paperweight, and Old Claudia probably took it without them even noticing it was gone.
When Hannah brings the time machine Jonas and the others already have one. One will be given to Noah, that is the same they used to arrive to 1888. The other one wil stay with Adam until the very end: Old Claudia will take it, give it to her younger self and that will be the machine that survives apocalypse, the one that will need repairing. Such a crazy minduck
@OneTake Great recap. However Starting the video with the blue prints you could have ended the cycle with the blueprints as well. As someone else already commented, the 1888 time machine (the no fuel TM) stays in sic mundus HQ for 150+ years until Old Claudia retrieved it in the future abandonned and burned Sic Mundus HQ to show it to her adult self. But between 1888 and 1986 Sic mundus had plenty of time to draw blue prints out of it. Then in 1986 the unkowns put Sic Mundus HQ on fire but retrieve the blue prints there and give them to Eva in Erit Lux.
Interesting Video. But I saw something else on a reddit post that made more sense. The problem here is that after Noah gives Bartosz the time machine he still time travels a bit, which means he had to have had the time machine bc the gateway was shut. There is the theory that Old Claudia got the time machine sometime between 1921 and 1987 where the place was destroyed and that Noah used the time machine left there by the Stranger (when he came to 1888). He then died in Sic Mundus and left the time machine there with him. Claudia just took it from the headquaters.

1. Claudya tells adam abt the origin world in 2052 and she says she figured out it in the 33 years. If that's the case isn't that also part of the cycle. She'll figure it out every cycle right? Am I missing something?

Haha it's all good! I enjoy thinking about this show and doing my best to answer questions / understand the things.
Claudia tells Adam that this is the first time the two of them have had this conversation. So, she at least believes that her figuring everything out is not part of the cycle. I.e., it's never happened before. The show implies that she's right because ultimately this triggers Jonas and Martha going to the origin world then ending things. I've seen some people theorize that this is all an illusion and the cycle hasn't truly broken. Which would agree with your thought that Claudia figuring things out is part of the cycle. I disagree with this view though... I think the show is telling the truth when it says the cycle is finally broken. The show gives a loophole in that things in the cycle can change in the moment time stands still during the apocalypse. They don't lay out the exact logistics of how Claudia figured everything out but following some of the breadcrumbs... my thought is that each cycle, although Claudia goes through a loop of the same events, some things may have changed ever so slightly here and there, especially in the loophole moment. So, after a certain number of cycles, things change just enough so that she finally gains enough knowledge to have the conversation with Adam that leads to the destruction of the knot. Using a super nerdy analogy... in Excel, if you create a circular reference where a formula refers to itself... the formula will run over and over with the result changing slightly each time... however, it eventually reaches an equilibrium where the changes become insignificant. That's sort of what we see here... each time the cycle runs, it changes ever so slightly until it stabilizes to a final result: its own destruction. I think there's room to theorize though so that's just my current interpretation!
The scene with the two Claudias, I think that's just younger Claudia seeking council from her older self. Older Claudia has guided younger Claudia here and there so I think this is just more of that. Agreed that Older Claudia apologizing to Egon seems to be part of the cycle but that doesn't necessarily contradict the above. Older Claudia can break the cycle by telling Adam how to end the knot but can also choose to relive one part of the cycle by apologizing to Egon (just for her own catharsis).

There is just one problem: which device does Noah use during season 2 to travel through time?
Assuming no other portable time machine exists, there has to be at least one more cycle the machine goes through.
There are only two gaps in the timeline: one after Hannah takes the machine to Stranger-Adam in 1911 and one after Stranger and the others arrive in 1888. This extra cycle happens entirely off-screen, so there is no way to know at which of these two moments it occurs. Although it seems more likely that it's Hannah's machine, as this is the one that actually works.
What we know however: At some point (probably after Noah's death), Adam sends his version of the machine back in time, basically to create a copy such that the rest of the timeline adds up.
Adam and Sic Mundus were in possession of two instances of the machine between 1911 and 1921 - the "younger" instance which Adam got from Hannah in 1911, and the "older" instance which they have had since 1888 and ran out of fuel - Adam would've distinguished the two instances by putting them in different briefcases. Given that the "younger" instance came with fuel my assumption was that Adam transeferred some of the fuel from the "younger" instance to the "older" one so he could have two working Tannhaus machines in his arsenal, and therefore it is possible that Noah could've used both instances of the machine in his adventures. Noah knew to give the "younger" instance to Bartosz to perpetuate the loop and keep the "older" instance for himself so he could travel back to 1921, which is where he meets his end. The "older" instance that Noah brought back to 1921 before he died is then left in Sic Mundus' lair for over 100 years (somehow surviving the fire), and is eventually retrieved by Claudia in the post-Apocalypse period, who then gives it to her younger self.
The timeline is the timeline, but I would think, that as with the book - anything that has no creation/invention point in a certain world, must come from another, and is looped only because of external intervention in time? I was thinkin that maybe the time machine was invented (but not construed? only the plans) by Tannhaus in Martha's world, as we don't know anything about his story in her world. (Or by someone else in Martha's or original world?) Plans of Machine come from Martha's world and this is only reason Tannhaus can start to build it. but he couldn't finish without seeing it finished, and he's the one who finishes it... so we are indicated he is the one who starts creating the machine...and if it's the same machine - as the creators of Dark say - it either was finished by him and only him before the first loop was created and jonas could go back with the old machine, or it is a real shoelace paradox without suitable explanation similar to the one as in the case of the book. Anyone has any ideas ? :D

My big thing with the suitcase time machine was I get they were stuck in 1888 because they had no fuel but when Martha gives him the little fuel pod why didn't he use it to fuel the suitcase or get them all out of there with the orb. Just cause fate said no?

@Saurabh Raj's theory may be correct however a possibility I've been considering is that the briefcase time machine is limited to 33 year jumps. Meaning, if they returned to their time in 2020, it would put them after the apocalypse. If they want to stop the apocalypse and save all their friends / family, Jonas believes the only way to do that is stay in 1888 so they can work on the God Particle. He believes that if they stabilize the portal, they can find the origin... and stop everything from going wrong. He's also probably biased from having seen a future (1921) where the portal is stabilized so he's determined to follow this pre-determined path. You can see in episode 7 that this causes some strife between Jonas and Bartosz. Bartosz just wants to go home while Jonas seems to have become more focused on this broader goal. To your question on why they don't just use Martha's orb... I don't think that's an option. Martha has been ordered by Adam to leave Jonas and the others stranded in 1888. So, if Jonas and his friends wanted to use the Orb, they'd essentially have to steal it from Martha as she would not cooperate with that plan.

I wish they would have had a scene with someone at least asking about Martha's way of travel but I can get it that jonas was too hyper focused to even care about it and the others didn't have much contact with her and they may had still had faith that Jonas would get the particle working in the immediate future rather Than years later.

I wish we had more info on the time machine orb thing that Martha uses. We get 0 info on how it's made. I get it's basically Eva's worlds version of what we see in the Adam's but it definitely looks much more futuristic compared to the suitcases.

I actually think was just a trick of editing. We see Noah leave Elisabeth in 2040 and then, next time we see Noah he is in 1920. So, our initial read is that Noah goes right from 2040 to 1920. Looking back at the episode, I think he truly bided his time and left from 2052 to 1920 once the God Particle was stabilized. It is a little strange to think about logistically because we know Noah no longer trusted Jonas or Claudia... but if he was intent on "sneaking in" and using the portal, I imagine he could pull that off. Claudia would let him do it because she know events need to repeat and I don't see Jonas as much of an obstacle haha. I think this also works nicely because 2052 to 1920 is 132 years so you get an increment of 33. It's a lot left to the imagination but Dark often leaves large gaps for us to fill in (for example, Agnes' role and her relationship with Claudia is pretty unexplored). So, I think this one is just slightly clunky editing. Open to other theories though!

If we assume that Claudia gets the machine from Jonas after 1888, then Noah has no means to travel. (Because he hands over the machine early on to Barotsz. )
So as I read from Reddit, Noah probably took 2 versions of the time machine in 1920 ( one that Hannah brought and the one Jonas brought back to 1888). He gives one to Bartosz and keeps the other with himself. Then after he discovers the missing pages , he goes back to 1921 to kill Adam. After Noah is killed , the time machine is abandoned in the lodge as Adam leaves to kill Martha . Then Claudia travels from 2052 using her orb and steals the machine from the lodge and buries it in 1954 for her younger self.

I.e., we see him leave Elisabeth in 2040 and the next time Noah appears, it's 1920. I believe that's just a trick of editing where they're leaving some of the process to our imagination. Instead, I think he bided his time for 12 years and in 2052, used the stabilized God Particle to head back. This also adds up because 1920 would be 132 years prior to 2052... an increment of 33. I'm not sure about Noah's travels after giving the machine to Bartosz. One option that occurs to me is we know the chair time machine in the bunker was eventually functional, so perhaps he was able to use that?

Eva actually retrieved the blueprints in the first episode of season 3. In the episode 1 opener, the trio burns down Sic Mundus and you can see them grab the blueprints. I believe this is another bootstrap paradox: Eva gives Claudia the blueprints, Claudia gives them to Tannhaus, Adam gets them from Tannhaus or Claudia (I'm not sure this step is explicitly shown but we know Adam has the blueprints in 1921 as Young Jonas sees blueprints in Sic Mundus HQ), in 1986 Eva's trio steals the blueprints, In 2052 Eva gives them to Claudia... and the cycle repeats.

Your first question is one I had myself and am honestly stumped on it. In 2040, I can't think of any time travel mechanisms Jonas or Noah would have had access to. At first, I just assumed that Noah left with the God Particle after 2052. However, they show us Noah storming out of the room in 2040 and next time we see him, he's in 1920... so its at least implied the travel was 2040 -> 1920.
On your second question though, my understanding is that younger Claudia grew up to become older Claudia from 2020 through 2052. I.e., she started working on the God Particle with Jonas in 2020 and kept working with him for the next three decades, becoming Older Claudia. The Younger Claudia you mention, I don't think was hanging out in 2052 - I think that was actually earlier in the timeline. She may have visited 2052 once she had the golden orb stolen from her alternate self (which seems to allow for unconstrained time travel to any time) but the older Claudia is one that grew up while working with Jonas.

I had the same question at first and chalked it up to a possible plot hole. However, looking back I think it was just a trick of editing where they leave some of the process to our imagination. I.e., we see Noah leave Elisabeth in 2040, grab the notebook, then boom - next time we see him, he's in 1920. This is confusing because there shouldn't be any time travel mechanism available to him in 2040 (tunnel is closed, god particle not yet stabilized, briefcase time machine busted, etc). So, although we don't see it, I think in reality Noah did not travel in 2040. Instead, he stuck around in post-apocalyptic Winden, biding his time for 12 years. Then, once the god particle was stabilized, he went back to 1920. This also adds up better since 1920 would be 132 years removed from 2052, which would be an increment of 33.

@@pairot01 Actually, I think their control over the god particle is more advanced in 1921 than it is in 2052 / 2053. When Adam shows Jonas the God Particle in 1921, he tells him that it resembles the one Jonas saw in the future but they are not the same. I don't recall the exact phrasing but the takeaway for me was that the God Particle in 2053 is limited... but the one in 1921 is more advanced. This also lines up with Jonas' use of the 2053 God Particle where it sent him 132 years into the past to 1921. This could be explained by the fact that Jonas spent 32 years working with Claudia on the God Particle from 2020 to 2052... so, he can build on that knowledge to make an even more advanced one when he works on Version 2.0 from 1888 - 1921.
I think there is 2 time machine..because just see design of both time machine at HG tanhause..older and new.. Design are different and so as use...1 time machine work with mobile phon and other without it..

Hey I didn't understand the part where old mikkel said to jonas that it was another Jonas who grabbed him in the forest and took him to 1986. Sn 3 didn't tell which Jonas that was, could you explain it to me?
If you recall, in Season 2, Jonas comes back to 2019 and tries stopping Mikkel from hanging himself. However, Older Claudia shows up and explains that Jonas must allow it to happen. He then leaves with Older Claudia. The next time we see Jonas is in 1986 when he meets Middle-aged Claudia (after she kills her father). Jonas mentions that he just spent a year with Older Claudia, learning from her about the past, present, and future. So, it's never explicitly stated, but the implication is that while Jonas was with Older Claudia during that year, he showed up in the forrest and took Mikkel to 1986 (likely at Older Claudia's instruction). I believe the official guide explains it this way as well, you can check it out here: dark.netflix.io/en ... it gives a pretty good timeline for each character.

The orb seems to be pretty shrouded in mystery. However, most things in the Alt-World in some way mirrored the Prime world. So, my guess is that similar to Adam's world, Tannhaus was involved in building the orb. They emphasize a few times that everything that happens in one world, happens in the other - although in different ways and at different times (i.e., Ulrich arriving in 1986 instead of 1953 in his attempt to kill young Helge). So, my assumption has just been that - on Alt-World, for one reason or another, they managed to build a better time machine. If anyone else has spotted something or has other theories that could more directly explain its origin, I'd love to hear it but at least in my latest scouring of the show - I didn't pick up on any new clues!
the thing that I still don’t get is why middle-aged Jonas didn’t use the time machine that he’d used to save his friends from the apocalypse to travel to another time. in season 3, when Bartosz is seen talking to alt Martha, he mentions that Jonas didn’t want to travel to 1888. Bartosz is also visibly angry about being stuck there. So if the time machine wasn’t broken at that time (when old Claudia gives it to young Claudia, the machine is seen working just fine), why didn’t they use it to travel to another time? my only explanation is that old Claudia is so smart that she fixes it herself (?)
Maybe because of letter he got from young Noah from alt Martha telling to 1888
He mentions that “nuclear material is hard to find there” - hence Alt Martha leaves the cesium behind for Jonas to fuck himself up trying to reactivate the time machine till he becomes Adam.
However it is unclear when Claudia takes the machine from Adam in the late 1800s/early 1900s. My guess is that by this point Adam had truly been consumed by the idea of perpetrating the cycle so he chose to not travel back to 2000s and instead focused on building the God particle that Alt Martha left behind.
Bartosz says they didn't intend to go there. The energy from the apocalypse quadrupled the cesium mass in the machine giving them 132 years instead of 33 back. It's not broken, it is out of cesium, and since the cesium doesn't exist until 1986 and they didn't bring extra they are stuck. Claudia does not fix the machine, as it isn't broken. She just takes it and gives it to her younger self. Mid Claudia only uses it 3 times in total before it is broken.

2. How did young Noah knew Peter was gonna die? He told him he'll protect Elizabeth after Peter's death. Again older Noah told thim that?
3. How did tronte survive apocalypse? He kills Regina later.
And Jonas too? Can a basement really protect him?💀
Hi! I can take a stab:
1. I think you're right that Adam gave it to him. After middle-aged Jonas burns the letter, middle-aged Martha visits Jonas' world in 1888 and drops off a freshly written copy of the letter (in the montage of ep 7 when Eva sends everyone through the time stream to contribute their various tasks to the cycle). So, I'm guessing he held on to it and Adam recalled Young Noah handing it to his younger self. So, he passed it to Noah and had him take care of it.
2. I think either Older Noah or Adam would have told him. Noah makes a lot of references to Adam as someone who guided him. For example, when he tells Jonas, "He said we would be friends before you betrayed me."
3. We know that Older Claudia was guiding both Peter and Tronte after they found Mads in the bunker. So, I'm assuming Claudia made it happen by either (a) letting him know of the impending apocalypse and how to survive, or (b) using the gold orb time machine to transport him to safety. We know that Tronte ends up in the 2050s as we see him with Older Claudia by Regina's grave (in either ep 7 or 8, forget which) so I'm assuming the orb got them there.
Regarding Jonas... it does seem fairly easy to survive Dark's apocalypse haha. Just go to the basement.
