My band was support for The Numbers around 80 - 81 at a little pub on the South Coast. We were more interested in the PA system they were using. All ATC British stuff. Their sound was crystal clear and we ended up investing in a similar PA. Our sound guy was excellent and we were moderately successful on the South Coast. Our sound guy ended up being more successful as a Manager with Jands Australia. We have 'The Numbers' to thank for much in the sound tech department. Plus they rocked!
My very first concert was on June 27 1981 on a cold winters night. This band the numbers was the support band to men at work and flowers at the capital theartre. That was the very last concert for the flowers. They announced that night that flowers changed their name to icehouse. I was 12 at the time. That was a very special concert. Great memories.
Check the spelling for Capitol Theatre, Robo Cop. OMG, I saw Flowers at The Time n Tide Hotel, Dee Why, on Sydney's Northern Beaches, when they were a Covers Band with some originals thrown in. Men at Work were unknown when I saw them at Bryant's Manly Vale, on Sydney's Northern Beaches, a couple of months later they were massive, thanks to Molly and Countdown and their constant gigs. The Pub Rock scene was a defined time period in Australian music history and in those days Bands and Artists would play gigs 5/6 nights a week. The LIVE scene is now on Australian Idol. Pathetic manufactured rubbish. Luckily, I was born in 1961, great timing I thank the Universe for. I saw all the great Bands, because I spent all my money going to see the gigs 6 nights a week.
Such an awesome band )) So the many times live in the early 80s around Sydney. They may not have cracked the big time but they have left a wonderful legacy and amazing memories amongst a lot of people in their lives )) cheers thx )
Very cool words Andrew, a wonderful sentiment that is held by many of us from that era. A hot summer's night, walking into a pub and hearing and seeing a very cool Band like The Numbers.

I remember watching the Numbers. Annalise with that big white Precision bass, that looked like it weighed about as much as she did. Those were the days.
My former band "FRAGILE" did a gig around 1978-79 with The Numbers on the Village Green in Blacktown, well before they hit music scene big time. They did a great version of "Pump it Up" - Elvis Costello song, so we did our take on the same song in our song list.
The numbers went onto become The Maybe Dolls in the early 90's Remember the songs "Nervous Kid" & "Cool Jesus" same siblings from this group formed that group Annalise Morrow and her brother
Very catchy, like this a lot. Never knew they were Oz, glad to find that out. Guitar intro reminds a lot of Billy Joel - You May Be Right also released in same year.

Oh man, The Flicks as a venue is like something in my memory which is a bit hazy. It was near The Police Station, not far from Manly Wharf. I think I had some great nights there! Ha. LOL! Northern beaches in the 80's was the place to be, lucky I lived there. Bryants at Manly Vale, Royal Antler at Narrabeen, The Glider Room at Dee Why Hotel. There was a venue at Whale Beach at the bottom of a long windy road, was it called Moby's? Great time to be in my 20's.
so far i have had eliminations at days 504, 840, 1176, 1512, 1848, 2184, and expect my 7th at day 2520. today is day 2339. i have definitely found something. i am not lying. what i have discovered has gone around the world and many songs have been written about it...the foo fighters last 3 albums.."vertigo" by U2 (my first name is phil)...coldplay's last 2 albums. an elimination is a day when you experience strong flu-like symptoms and feel terrible. bad stuff is washed out of your body.
I saw them several times and thought they were destined for big things, I always thought they wrote/played great songs,I'm sure one of the places I saw them at was The Civic in Pitt st. I have their vinyl somewhere
Day 5655. 3 x 5 x 13 x 29. All my urine til 3.15pm then dried figs and black grapes then more urine then fruit and vegetables and other foods at 8.00pm. No change.
i came up with a theory that involves the book of genesis (fig leaves) buddha (sitting under the bodhi fig tree) jesus (many sayings about figs) ross horne's book (new health revolution) and science (figs are the most important source of food for fruit eating rainforest animals). i then experimented on the figs by eating mainly dried figs (same brand) for over 6 years now and found cycles which i related to the numbers in psgs 11/12 of the book of revelations. this theory has gone eveywhere.
day 2856. 119 x24. and yet i reach another elimination day. my ears were ringing with a high frequency pitch this morning but not so much now. i'll just keep going with it and see what happens. nothing better to do. i see things from time to time and i guess you see them as well. only figs and urine and pure water til 3:00pm then freshly cut basil then more figs then usual foods at 8:00pm.
Does anyone know the lyrics to this, please? Also, (if were to play on guitar instead) are these the correct guitar chords: Intro A - V erse D G A# F E A - Chorus D G A G
You have the basic chords right but you need to use the major seventh (maj7) chord every second beat for the D and G in both verse and chorus (see here: www.guitar-chord.org/maj7.html ). Use the Amaj7 shape and barre it at fifth fret for Dmaj7 and 10th fret for Gmaj7. In the intro riff play open string A (5th string,,,let it ring) then 2nd string D C# B C# (frets = 3 2 0 2). p.s. the E chord should be E minor (Em) and the F has a sus4 (sustained fourth) flourish at the last beat:..an Asus4 is normal A chord on second fret with added D note on second string (use little finger)...use a barre chord at the eighth fret for Fsus4. Have fun!
Chris and Ann Morrow developed a very successful fashion and clothing company and for people that know their Australian music history will know that they are important music icons. Ignorant people live in a bubble and believe the Earth is flat. LOL!!!!!!!! Oh, yeah Pedersen, Maybe Dolls were 1991, not 80's. Also Pedersen, less can be more. Quality over Quantity!! Have a listen to " Govt. Boy " by The Numbers from 1979, which also is not in the 80's. To music historians that is an Australian Punk Classic. Kids today don't have what we had in the 80's, Fri , sat or sun a pub or club with a live band that was a chart topper within walking distance
Too true!!!!!
Tuesday to Sunday arvo's, you could walk into any Pub in Sydney, and there'd be a half decent band on.,spoilt we were.........

Definitely deserved a bigger audience. They were good live too.
Very catchy, like this a lot. Never knew they were Oz, glad to find that out. Guitar intro reminds a lot of Billy Joel - You May Be Right also released in same year.
I saw the Maybe Dolls in Brisbane many moons ago and Annalise was happy to have her picture taken with me. Had a bit of a crush on her at the time.
Great singer but rough looking.aged too fast for her own good.
Saw them many times live
great song lots of integrity and real feeling

I was a teen in the 80s and I don't remember the numbers or maybe dolls.
Probably why they didn't last long.

The music scene in Sydney was never worth Jack Shit. For good music you had to go to Melbourne or Adelaide.
hysterical :)
@@pw3858 I’m pretty sure AC/DC came from Melbourne.
Actually AC/DC were originally from Adelaide and INXS from Perth.
