    you've seen the fakes...they're out there...but have you ever wondered how bad the heat treats actually are on those things? They arecmost definitely a waste of money....you'll never get your money back if you should ever decide to get rid of them..
    and one day you will want to get rid of them...regardless of the heat treat...but the heat treat is what we are testing today. play along as we test 5 fake knives from Ali or some other store of the liking.
    the fakes are copies of :
    Strider SMF Performance Series
    Strider SMF full ti
    Strider SNG/ PT
    Demko AD 20.5
    Hinderer Project X

    Maybe do some lateral cutting on some hard burl with these knock offs to see what happens. Interesting. Thanks for the content.

    I've been looking forward to this. Assuming these are D2, 440C, 8 or 9 Cr, Aus8, or even AUS 10 that still isn't bad for cheap. I'd still buy "about as cheap" from a real brand that said what they were doing- like TwoSun, or even Ganzo. And tbh my favorite cheap knife is Opinel. I'm actually pretty OK with a knife that "cuts shit." :)

    I would guess these are probably a CR series steel like 5cr, 7cr, etc or maybe d2 or 440 since they produce versions of them there. That said, I’m not surprised these days that they are heat treated to an “acceptable” hardness, 5-10 years ago I would’ve guessed otherwise. The entire industry is in one city over there and from my understanding it’s similar to how the Japanese knife industry was built up. It’s much more of a concerted effort with many shared services. So these blades probably went through the same heat treat facility that all the other knives made in yangjang went through as well as some of the other services. Plus who knows who’s making them in the first place, just sayin.
    Kind of off topic but what I’ve always been quite surprised of is how cheap they can offer a milled titanium framelock. Also in turn how huge of a mark up some of these brands must be charging that get Ti frame locks OEM’d over there. Not my thing anyways and to each their own but I think some people would be surprised how cheap some of the OEM work is.

      @@poncho151 dude you're spot on. I've heard a designer at kershaw say he can get a box of 40 knives at cost...for 8 bucks each. That's a 75 dollar msrp and probably a 60 dollar street price kershaw. Not titanium frame locks obviously but ...$60 liner lock kershsws with speed safe and a d2 steel.

    • @poncho151
      @poncho151 Місяць тому +2

      @@apex_alchemy_knives that’s wild and a great example of massive profits! What’s even crazier that there’s a profit being made by the OEM on that 8 bucks too!
      I’ll always have respect for and some forgiveness to the pricing of a brand like Benchmade which only has a USA made product line. It’s not a knock on brands like kershaw or even spyderco but I imagine it’s a lot easier to keep your stateside manufacturing going and prices down when you also have that sweet 500% markup OEM profit coming in as well lol.

    He probably did buy these from the same seller id guess or if he bought it off of one of the big sellers on aliexpress the heat treat will be good or at least decent.
