Also, none of my business, but when my bff lost her husband (suicide) and found herself still very, very sad and stuck after 4 years, she found a grief counselor to be very helpful. Just throwing that out there.
My boyfriend (and love of my life) died in an accident over 2 years ago and i still grieve for him. I think about him everyday and what could have been. He was only 37.
I once asked my husband, "why, historically, does it seem that men hated women". He said, "because men know (or perceive) that women are their greatest weakness" I thought that was pretty profound insight. Naturally, I have to say "not all men" in case someone accuse me misandry.🙄
@@RowanWarren78 That's the mens opinion and it's expressed by middle ages where religious scholars wrote that women are temptresses of men and can only be redeemed in motherhood it is utterly sexual , and refers to women as sexual temptation of men the reality is that men are also attracted in other men and historically in other weird things like animals and this degradation of women as sexual objects is ALREADY an oppression of women . They don't hate women cause they like them or not in fact they hate women mostly when women are right in an argument and they are not if this rate is low they d hate women a little if this rate is high they hate them a lot and it is happened with minorities , people of color and religious minorities the more they succeed the more the nationalistic violence takes place , as long as they are slaves or barely paid workers pogroms are less the moment they gain rights and follow education demand equal payment, get jobs that are considered better , good grades at school and college etc the more the haters hate them. Emperor Francis the husband of Maria Theresia was great example for man who surported His wife and Loved her dearly. A Lot of noble marriages were made in political not love.
This is the most in-depth and interesting histories I have heard about these two , my heart ached for both of them. Thank you for time you must have spent researching them and again, so deeply with facts I didn’t know until watching your video! So interesting and top quality “herstories”. Please keep it up, you’re great!
What an interesting talk so very well delivered........thank you! I have loved history all my long life but I have never heard of these two ladies before. I find it hard to accept how cruel her husband and his Court were to poor Josepha. Henry VIII had the same sort of reaction to Anne of Cleves, but she was a very clever woman and managed to escape being beheaded AND ended up with someone who loved her dearly, thank goodness. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to making new discoveries.....there’s always more to learn!
I actually wonder if there's a possibility that Isabella could have been homoromantic asexual as she doesn't show any particular interest in men or sex, but had a clear romantic infatuation (in my mind at least) with Marie Christine. Just a theory, but hopefully not a terrible one. As for Josepha the fact that the Habsburgs seemed devoted to demolishing her based almost entirely on her looks speaks more about the culture of her day than about Josepha herself, who seems to me to be a kind and gentle spirit. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series. Keep up the good work!
Great video with an interesting storyline. These poor women were sold for politics, even if it meant living a horrible life. Thank you for the warning in the beginning, I found that very considerate of you!

True. And the portraits were usually altered to make the person look more appealing. On the other hand, beauty standards were quite different back then.
great video! as a tour guide i love seeing educational videos like this. One quick note: at 12:13 you talk about josephs father dying and show a picture of franz stephan (his father) but the writing says "emperor franz-joseph". I'm sure it was just a mixup though, keep up the good work!
Joseph stated he couldn’t put his hands on Maria Josepha because she was covered everywhere with some kind of gross blemishes. That doesn’t show in the portraits.
@A W Joseph was forced to marry Maria Josepha. He didn’t want to, didn’t love her. He was still mourning his first wife’s death. They gave him no time to grieve and shoved him into another marriage. They were heartless.
I also want to add that the "Joseph loved his wife" is not true not in a way as p.e. Suleiman loved Hurrem or even less as we mean it today the truth is Joseph might loved showing off his wife trophy or loved that she was pretty and educated but as it comes out he never really respected and appreciated her as person and before you say "this wasn't done back then" I will say yes it wasn't done too openly or in ways we would approve today but there were numerous examples of respect in levels that the opinion of the beloved lady shaped the opinion of the man in love p.e. Madame de Pompadour , Hurrem Sultan etc And without respect and appreciation the "love" is not love but infatuation.
Interesting take. Looking at from todays viewpoint, Joseph’s love seemed to be superficial and self centered. Maybe that was the only form of love he wad capable of? It’s hard to say what another person truly felt.
@@historyfoxy5278 i m not taking it from today's viewpoint but comparatively to the love many rulers had for their mistresses or concubines , respect appreciation and real love wasn't considered a "must" at those times but it wasn't non existent , it very much existed but it was more often extramarital than a marital thing but again Marie Therese had great influence to her husband. I must disagree with parte of this statement. Maria Christina was not considered either the most beautiful sister (Maria Elisabeth) nor the most inteligent (Maria Anna. This was not mentioned in your comment, I just added it). She was the fav of her mother, that's right however she was the least liked by her siblings because she was scheming and manipulative. Joseph seemed to like her because of her friendship with Isabella. If Isabella was a lesbian, I don't know though she clearly loved Mimi to the point of obsession. She was extremely jealous and possessive. Isabella's letters show that her feelings were not really reciprocated and this caused her great suffering. She calls everyone who had Mimi's attention (her sisters and especially her future husband) her enemy. There was nothing romantic about this relationship, in my opinion. One more thing, Isabella did not hate Joseph as I have read in many places, no official source anyway. She was really fond of him but not in the way he would have wanted. Although he never knew that.
Joseph II and Austria would have been lucky If that women would stayed in Spain and die Not decieved everyone. She might have a good and Long Life as a nun. Anyway Austria would got another Queen. A real Queen who might loved her husband really and have him a successor.
