    Excellent video! Some good advice. I have a wide range of watches, my most luxury if I can use that term is Grand Seiko, Omega Seamaster and the Speed master. As my hobbies are scuba and mountaineering I have Orient and Seiko divers and G-Shocks for the mountains. Completely agree with not going for copies of originals from Ali Express but do strongly disagree with not buying from them at all. Examples, I have the original Seiko Tuna and Seiko 2nd gen Monster, both with mineral crystal and not great bracelets. I saw and bought a Steeldive Tuna homage with yellow dial, Seiko never made one and loved the colour. Same with a red dial Heimdallr Monster! Seiko never made one. On top of that both AE watches have sapphire crystals, original Seiko movements and far superior bracelets. Seiko isn't luxury of course so unlikely to be mugged for that. And even though I'm an Omega owner and I bought a Uranus Moonswatch, loved the colour scheme, great summer watch but....... total rubbish, got my money back after a pusher fell off and I got a blue stained wrist. Just trash. Anyway as I loved the colour I got on Ali Express a Pagani Design homage, except instead of being made of recycled ceramic toilet bowls and vegetable oil with a $2 one tick per second chronograph movement, the Pagani has a sapphire crystal, 316l Stainless Steel, 100m water resistance with screw down crown and a high beat Seiko mecaquartz movement, for $100 including import tax! And it doesn't look like a toy that came out of a Christmas cracker! Honestly I still cannot forgive Omega for allowing the brand name to be used on that 💩💩. So. We should not be quiet luxury watch snobs either. There are some good alternatives that are quite unique coming from Chinese watch makers, plus they do make very nice homages to watches by bigger brands that were discontinued way back in the 1960's and 70's. Most microbrands are actually doing the same thing, and have the watches manufactured in China, probably by the same factories that made mine. However I will never buy something that looks exactly like a Rolex from a distance for example, because it would be embarrassing if someone said "nice Rolex" and then realize it's not. Lol. Anyway I hate the cyclops,, it's the ugliest idea ever conceived. My friend who is a real enthusiast and has Patek, AP etc, calls the cyclops a pimple on the arse of horology. Excuse the colourful term! 😂

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Brian! I do agree on the embarassing faux pas risk with a Rolex clomage. I agree as well on your Moonswatch sentiments. And agree with the anti-watch snobbery sentiment when it comes to Aliexpress, that's why in the intro of the video, I mentioned it's for educational purposes only and I don't even follow them all myself. It's just my interpretation on the Quiet Luxury Trend, which is still in itself rooted in snobbery and classism. 😄

    Great video and regardless of where we live or the environment we live in, being conservative in style has always seemed a bit more classy than a more flashy stance. Great video! Completely agree about self-worth and inner self-belief being the foundation of all things including a healthy attitude to watches. I'm a fan of small vintage dress watches where you can find some lovely examples from the likes of Omega and Longines for very little. Also think that vintage women's watches in general are spectacularly undervalued for the quality they represent.

    I'm going to push back a little. If it has to qualify for all three criteria "Quiet", "Luxurious", and "Budget", it is going to be difficult to avoid the Clomage space. Some micro-brands (yes, I am going to call them microbrands) coming out of Southern China over-deliver on value like very few others do. That said, I wouldn't include a Sub, a Speedy, or a GMT Master clomage in the list for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
    On the other hand, the Proxima on my wrist is an homage to a relatively less-known Seiko MarineMaster 300. It is a beautifully built, reliable, watch made by a dedicated one-man business. At €200, it feels far more luxurious than a Seiko 5. Same goes for the Sugess homage to the Zenith Chronomaster Heritage or the Seestern homage to the Doxa Sub 300T. Tool-watch divers that don't look flashy or instantly recognizable.

    • @AliasEveWatches
      @AliasEveWatches  Рік тому +1

      I accept the push back. 😁 The criteria for Quiet Luxury Budget is certainly very constraining but I think homages of lesser known watches do meet the "Quiet" criteria.
      For sure, the sub, speedy, GMT master is going to be hot on the eyes for sure and will certainly be not Quiet. 🎯
      Thanks for bringing up this point and thanks for watching the video!

    • @AliasEveWatches
      @AliasEveWatches  Рік тому +1

      Regarding the microbrand term, I do think of some of the Chinese brands as microbrands (like Merkur) but not all them and I haven't really examined why I think that way. I want to get your opinion on this.

    • @SheshankReddyS
      @SheshankReddyS Рік тому

      @@AliasEveWatches Cheers!🍮. The "Microbrand" definition seems to be pretty vague when it comes to specifics. Here's how I would break it down.
      "Micro" meaning small-scale - in terms of volumes of production, revenue or size of operations. What is the size threshold? I don't really know.
      "Brand" meaning a name, symbol or marker which represents some quality which separates the products of one maker/seller from their competition. so brand "Lamborghini" would stand for sexy aesthetics, desirability, and absolute performance (speed, acceleration, etc) and that would be significantly different from brand "Honda". By this logic, SteelDive stands for reasonable quality and unbeatable value, Underd0g Studios stands for colour and pop. Similarly, Stephen Yi's brand Proxima stands for quality, value, and creative engineering design IMO. I know what you are thinking 😁 "Where is the creativity in copying watches?". I'd recommend watching the below review by The Watcher to see their approach to modular case design:

    I would not agree. I have a San Martin, model 6200. This is a clomage from the 1950s Rolex. I like it a lot. I dont think its loud, there are zillions of people who wear diver watches. What does the average robber know about watches to think im wearing a Rolex? I do like buying stuff on a budget. 400-500 usd for a watch is not the pocket budget for me but 200 USD is manageable. Why not buying a good specifications watch with no "history" ? Its a good value - not as a brand value or reselling value but as the wearing watch value. It will keep going for years.
