A doctor in icu told me my mum, who was 93 was a waste of resources and that i should let her go. I said her written wishes are to try to live to be 100 if possible. I told the doc that he would not be the one to decide the time and date of her death. I stayed with her 24/7 excepting to go the bathroom and get food. To protect my mum, i contacted the hospital CEO and received assurance that she would in fact have every lifesaving procedure needed if she wanted it. She's now 97 and still volunteering. She makes blankets for the homeless. There are so many great docs who love my mum. Unfortunately, when it was a matter of life and death she had a really bad doc. Nobody in a health crisis should ever be treated so inhumanely in any area of medicine. On subsequent visits to the pacemaker clinic at the hospital and two unrelated visits they all treat mum Really well. The last 4 years have been a gift to her and everyone she knows. She's still safe at home with me.

Note: I recommend a well-worded kind but firm letter to the owner of the clinic. I think the feedback may help other women. The measuring of those follicles is so important for the creation of life. They have no right to deny anything that will lead to a life-giving procedure.

@@Suebearish well, this makes me cry. I know it's true and it's just heartbreaking. I'm so sorry. If this ever happens again you have the right to request a patient advocate immediately who will fight for yours or your loved ones life and rights. I didn't know this until I contacted the hospital CEO. As soon as a patient advocate is called staff, including docs are all on their best behavior. I'm so, so sorry this information comes too late for your mom. Sending you big hugs and prayers.❤️

It’s no wonder people go mad especially if they insult you or make you feel small. The extra amount was for the consultant you had with your last child. I think that I would have spoken out . This hit home. When we started our infertility journey we went to a clinic that told us we would NEVER get pregnant unless we did IVF. We wanted to explore IUI first, but they refused. We didn’t have the 40k they quoted and we were crushed. We found a wonderful clinic that was so kind to us. We ended up doing ONE IUI and got pregnant with our first. We now have 3 kids and never did IVF. There should be specific training for clinics dealing with infertility, including excellent bedside manner. That’s the most important thing during this emotionally draining time. Thank you for always sharing your story with us. It’s been s pleasure following you all these years. ❤

You can only do that through a private adoption which many states don’t allow. Adoption isnt about providing kids for families but families for kids . They can adopt an older child if they want more. Birth moms these days have so many choices. If it was me placing my baby ,I’d be asking all sorts of questions about finances , parenting style, every future plan for my child and if their adhd is even being treated . They have to prove they could do better than a birth mom and the other millions of people waiting. Why do they need to experience a baby so badly if they already have three times and once with special needs .? They realistically can’t afford to give the child more opportunities than birth mom could and they would never be picked. Especially as Alex acts more bipolar with each video, I don’t think she would pass an adoption mental Health eval today.

Hi Alex. I have found that there is definitely a different level of health care in the South compared to the West. I have done something I have never done before. 5 days ago, I walked out of a doctors office here in Alabama. Furious and in tears. "Gem's" are getting harder and harder to find and feeling like you have to fight tooth and nail every time you step foot in an doctor's office breaks you down. Never distrust that first instinct again. No one EVER needs to be treated like that. I am in the process of deciding whether to travel back to my Dr. or continue to try and find another here. I know it's exhausting and very frustrating.

Nearly Every female in my family had their gallbladder out, I did too, at age 14 had mine removed but not before I was put in my place by the "professionals" that know better. Ugh.
I had a neck injury requiring emergency surgery, I heard oh you are a drug addict wanting drugs which is funny as after my gallbladder surgery i became sensitive and allergic to All pain meds and most antibiotics after my weeks in the hospital after I died during my first surgery. So with my neck I never once asked for any drugs, before, during or even after my neck surgery..I did not even take tylenol. I never even took ANY pain meds for any surgery or even after my cesarean sections decades before because Its not safe for me due to anaphylaxis allergic reactions, but still....I was treated as if I was STILL wanting pain meds. I had the neck surgery thankfully with a doctor who finally believed me, I was nearly paralyzed. But not before I was treated like I was lying.

Alex, you are 100% correct in not going there again. Honestly, I would review and tell everyone of their lack of common courtesy so that nobody else has to endure it. I recently (yesterday) had to schedule an appointment for my niece by marriage for her first visit to the doctor in the USA. She found out she's pregnant! But she's from Brazil. She doesn't speak much English and trusted me to help bc I recently had a baby. It took several phone calls and most of the nurses (not sure if they are nurses) were nice and mostly helpful. The first intake nurse said, "thank you for helping to translate, it is much smoother this way." Kind of annoying, but ok. Then, I got to the OB scheduling nurse. Mostly everything was ok. She was annoyed that I kept asking to get in ASAP, "If she wanted to get in sooner, she should have called at 4 weeks instead of 9." Ok thanks, unhelpful. Just say sorry not possible at this time. "Well why hasn't she sought care yet?" She didn't have insurance until the 1st of March. No clinics, including this one, accept patients without insurance. Finally, I asked to make sure that I didn't have to go to be a translator (I know there is a service where they have translators attend phone calls and appointments with people who speak other languages), and I received in her perfect southern accent, "Well you better be here or she won't know what's happening to her." The amount of disdain in her voice over the fact that she doesn't speak English and I had the nerve to ask of her to use appropriate services to make sure that she got the necessary and DESERVED level of care that she is owed (and paying for) was shocking. In that moment I didn't have words and I wish now that I would have said something because who knows what she will be like to the next undeserving person who may not have an aunt to help. IF I have the opportunity to review, or speak to her, she will be told as much. I know that nobody is perfect and we all have our moments, but that was intolerant and absolutely left me feeling like she isn't safe.

Thank you so much for sharing the real and the raw. These kinds of interactions seem to be par for the course with women's health care. Every time I go to my OB it's rough and impersonal, like you said, just a factory line where the money is all that matters. I wish there were midwives for infertility! Midwives care so much about the big and the small picture and take the time you need to feel comfortable and feel like a real HUMAN. Anyway, still hoping and praying for you to have another little one some day. 🙏

I've been following your family for years, I found you at the beginning of my infertility journey. It just floors me seeing Cassidy now because I still remember the video you posted when you and Phil found out she would be a cardiac baby and I remember the videos of her before her surgery. You would never know the rough start that she had based off where she is now. Modern medicine is incredible.
Related to the ultrasound, I thought it would be standard to measure and count every follicle?! My fertility specialist counted and measured every follicle when I went through IVF. Not having that data, how would they even know what to expect for you, retrieval wise???? That clinic is bonkers.

Unfortunately it's not just infertility Dr's/places. It's all medical now day's. My 69 yr old was crying all day cause the dental place called and wanted more money after being told 3 times her insurance would over her at 100% and the lady laughed at my mom for being upset. Needless to say she will not be going back for any further work on her mouth. That's Not How You Treat People!! Thank you for sharing your story ❤️

I'm so sorry that happened. I hope you can find a place that accepts it. Its worth looking around. My helper was told the insurance would not cover the scan for her knee (1900kyd) but would cover the treatment 100% once diagnosed. It was cheaper for her to fly home (Jamaica) and have CT done and bring results back.

You know a lot of people who get ultrasounds are finding out if they have life threatening diseases or may be recovering from very serious illness, cancers, all kinds of things. It's a bit narcissistic to think the infertility population are the most vulnerable. Having your 3 year old child have an ultrasound for some kind of cancer tops that I think.

  • @claireyoung3622

Not only does this apply to infertility it applies to literally any medical use case that puts families/people in situations that they need empathy. It’s one thing to have to pay a bill for sufficient care it’s a whole different story to request help and pay for that help and be downplayed. We’ve gone through it with my daughter’s allergy and skin concerns. Not to equate the two. Just to say - it is so heartbreaking when all you want is to do the right thing for your family and you’re met with no empathy and no answers 🥺. I’m so sorry Alex.

Bio or adopted, they are and will be great parents. I agree though, there ARE so many siblings out there who desperately need a home. An International adoption program like Taiwan has many young sibling pairs available to adopt. Many more adoption programs out there siblings are considered a special need due to many people not open to it due to cost Foster care adoption here in the USA has tons of siblings but it's harder to do. I have bio kids, I adopted internationally 4 times and did USA foster care for years.
