These are the best videos of Jeff. Thank you very much.
God his voice, his band, his guitar, his lyrics, his music, his everything is just so beautiful
It's real
It's so real@@18JR78
One of a kind
And he himself
keep it in your pants
These guys weren’t just ‘having a bash’ - they’re so well rehearsed they’re playing the arrangements without thinking and just feeling it out. Obviously Jeff is sublime but the boys with him are too.
I was just thinking how close to the studio recording it sounds. really refreshing to see and hear
We all lost a great artist. But for his band, it was the ultimate 'What could have been..".
Yeah with two telecaster's they're demonstrating their overall lack of skill.
@@panchoverde5078
Ok maestro
@@achoice2bmade the dude can sing, for sure. The rest of of it, do you call it music?
2:47 that “I love you” and the guitar strike 💯

This is " so real " it's unbelievable.
ha. ha. ha. good one. im gonna go swim in a river
Band is incredible. It's not easy to find a perfect group of players to be your backing band. They were top notch.
My 14 yr old daughter introduced me to this...and I could never thank her enough. Love you gl.
Amazing ❤
I bet she's very clever and heartful daughter for her age.
HE HITS THE NOTES WITH EASE!
Makes me so sad I’ll never see this live. I hate being stuck in a past that I wasn’t even alive in but I would give anything to tell this man how much he has improved my life and my musicianship in one album. Jeff is still my fav for years now rest in peace he was truly out of this world
I feel this very deeply
i resonate with you too, being ‘stuck in a past i wasn’t even alive in’ is a weird sort of ennui that many don’t get, everyone acts like it’s so long ago but it never feels that way to me. in relation to everything that has ever happened anyway.
This man was something else. His vocals do not compare to anything else.
He’s repeating what his dad did in the 60/70s. Tim sang the same way.
It was a guitar 🎸 part penned by Michael Tighe in his early teens that sparked “So Real” (1994).
Tighe recalled : “I composed the chord progression for ‘So Real’ when I was 14 or 15. When I first met Jeff [Buckley], I played that for him and he was really taken with it. A year or two later, at some of the rehearsals for their first tour, he was like, ‘Remember that song you played on your bed a couple of years ago at your parents’ place?’ So I started playing it, and he got behind the drums and came up with that beat and started singing the melody of the chorus.”
Tighe added that the lyrics came last : “We did ‘So Real’ in an afternoon. That night, Jeff was feverishly writing in his notepad, then he took a walk around Hell’s Kitchen, came back and recorded the vocals for it. So I think he wrote most of the lyrics that night. IT WAS PRETTY BEAUTIFUL THE WAY IT ALL CAME TOGETHER SO QUICKLY.” 💙🎶💚
May you rest in peace, Jeffrey Scott Buckley (1966 - 1997)… 🌹
Amazing, thank you for putting this here ❤ just by listening you can feel its a piece that came from very raw emotions, and the story just adds to better comprehend how he created
The only musician that ever made me cry
@natural9743 What about Rob Zombie?
Such weird chord progression in the verse, i love it
And the time sig like I can’t get ahold of it
@@someone-x2l I’m thinking of it as 9/8 and 7/8 but it really adds up to 16. Just real tricky
@@someone-x2l It's just syncopated 4/4, don't get your hopes up.
@@davisrogers5014 The whole song is in 4/4 time, with syncopation in the verses.
How he wrote this i can't even imagine, the chords and vocals are so foreign to one another and yet they sound incredible together.
@michaelmyers7425 Jeff’s rhythm guitarist, Michael Tighe, actually wrote the music (as least the main riff), and Jeff wrote the lyrics.

@@MojoPin1983 No Way! That's so cool. Everyone's riffs are welcome.
Lyrically this was eerily prophetic…such a powerful voice and unique sense of harmony.
Jeff once stated in a written interview that, as for Mick Grondahl (bass player), there were many bass players out there that could play rings around him, but it wasn't about technical abilities: it was about the chemistry (as cliché as it may sound).
As for Michael Tighe (guitar player), he had never been in a band before, and still, Jeff recruited him when the Grace recording sessions were in an advanced stage. Again: chemistry.
Matt Johnson was a very competent drummer. His drumming in "Grace" and "Dream Brother" speaks for itself.
Underrated backing band, for sure. And they lasted together for like a little over a year only, when Matt decided to step out after the Australian tour back in early 96.
Band chemistry is EXTREMELY important especially with music as dynamic as his was. When you have a band with good chemistry it’s like everyone knows what everyone is going to do before they even do it
Mick Grøndahl was kind of original/different in the way he played his instrument! Jeff saw value in that and that's why he wanted Mick to be in his band. Probably there was some chemistry there as well.
wow. it just doesn't get better than this. his vocals in this performance are truly gorgeous
His drowning, fully clothed in the Mississippi River, still haunts me. 🫣
Wolf River. A tributary.
@galenstone9097 Don't they also call it "Ghost River?"
@@kat1york I don't know. possibly. I'm not a a native.
@@galenstone9097 Understood. Ty for responding.
Same. I was 23 or 24 at the time and loved him so much. My mother was a fan of Tim Buckley in the Sixties. I told her and my sister with great sorrow that Jeff had in a river like Orpheus.
This song always wrecks me. And this performance is so captivating.
This was the first track my old friend played me back in the late 90’s. Blew my top off and still does.
imagine being the vocalist that changed thom yorke's vocal style.
@Voornoek I don’t have to imagine; I live with that knowledge every day.
What does this mean
I love both of them so much (Buckley and Yorke)
The greatest line ever
"I love you"
"I'm afraid to live you "
jeff was indeed magical
He is more than perfect. So upsetting we lost him so tragically. Truly gone too soon.
I’m so happy to see Jeff featured in the new Leonard Cohen documentary called Hallelujah. It will turn even more people on to him. R.I.P.
I couldn’t awake from the nightmare, it sucked me in and pulled me under - that’s fucking scary
Prophetic absolute
Exactly my thoughts when listening to this......song.
This song was my introduction to Jeff Buckley.
I remember very vividly the moment when I first listened to it many years ago. It was playing on the radio in my Walkman (yeah, I'm that old) while I was jogging, and the exhaustion caused by the exercise combined with the surprise from what I was hearing made me stop and lie down on the grass to pay close attention.
That feeling of discovering something unique and so magical, the power of the music, and... that voice! What an unforgettable experience!
And since then, I haven't been able to stop wondering what other musical creations this man would have delivered had he not decided to go to that damn river on that day.
Isnt funny how people have millions of views. This guy ... genius
His voice... So real 😭❤️
This music has hamlet like performative feel
.....and I couldn’t escape from the nightmare that sucked me in, and pulled me under...pulled me under.......
🫤😔😖🥺
Prophetic. He mentions drowning in a few of his songs! Beautiful man, much missed.
Like Orpheus, he had a river death. :( Love him so much.
This guy was writing about listening to a demo of this very song. I got that same reaction now than he did.
Goosebumbs all over... Amazing. I'm at a loss for words
His voice is so unique
His lyrics prophecy his departure. Fair well beautiful soul.
It seems unlikely to me that I'd be discovering Jeff Buckley well in to my 30s rather than much earlier, but here I am. Why this is not as well known as some other artists is strange fate or some conspiracy. Everything sounds great.
Jeff stayed on this planet just long enough to leave behind some really beautiful art. If you think about the quality of his work, he achieved master status so young. He is ascended now, I believe.
eargasm
That was killer! The whole band…love it caught some of matt’s magic a bit as well… they were a unit a powerful one at that ! Thank u!
Best song in the album

Even all these years later I still turn people onto Jeff’s music and what an influence he was. I couldn’t imagine how far he would have went and what he’d be doing today. He should be in the rock and roll hall of fame as one of the biggest influences of the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Does anyone know if Jeff buckley was familiar with slints album spiderland It feels as if he drew inspiration from that album for this specific song?
@Nigel John Klein Not that I know of.
ive had the exact same thought. Good morning captain specifically
He's said in interviews that he's a massive fan of Shudder to Think who were massively influenced by Slint so that would make sense
This song is like a jazzy version of washer id imagine he knew or the guitarist did. Even the builds with the one note solo breakdowns the same
It's like radiohead before radiohead
The Radiohead singer actually talked about how Jeff Buckley inspired his singing style
Yes, Radiohead said they say Jeff play in London in 94 and it gave Thom Yorke the confidence to sing in falsetto ❤
Also, Pyramid Song is about Jeff "black eyed angel swam with me"
Almost certainly the only man ever to be complimented by Jimmy Paige for his guitar playing and by Robert Plant for vocal ability. Plant himself said he couldn't hold a candle to Buckley.
@typicalamerican2164 Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have both praised other guitarists and vocalists. In the Plant clip that you’re talking about, he also mentioned Freddie Mercury being a better singer than him.
@@MojoPin1983 To be clear I meant the only person to receive compliments from BOTH of them in terms of each of their respective talents.
@@typicalamerican2164 I’m not even sure if that’s true, but it doesn’t matter, as they both recognized Jeff’s brilliance.
💚
Listening to this album, I totally see where Lana del Rey songwriting and vocal performance comes from … Jeff Buckley is written all over her albums
@itainava6784 I couldn’t name one song of hers, but most contemporary artists were probably influenced or inspired by Jeff Buckley in some way.
Art school chicks still can't get over his loss
and i couldnt awake from the nightmare that pulled me in and sucked me under... rip jeff,i hope youre making music in eternity

I bet he influenced Brandon Boyd
@chriskozub8012 He did.
*Brandon Boyd on Jeff Buckley:* ua-cam.com/video/RkSbdrjJsug/v-deo.html&t
GAP: “Who is your favorite musical artist?”
Brandon Boyd: “Jeff Buckley. When he came out everyone was a little afraid to commit. Well not everybody, but a lot of popular artists were afraid to commit completely to what they were doing. They kind of used irony as a sheet around them, kind of protecting them from having to own up to what they said. Not only did he have one of the best voices I have ever heard, he was one hundred percent committed to what he was doing. He was unabashedly romantic in his lyrics, and the way he sang. He got some flak for it while he was alive, and it sucks because when someone dies people start to say maybe he was awesome, and they begin to analyze it differently. For those reasons, and I can go on forever about the guy. His voice has been influential to a lot of current artists, to people who might not even admit it, really. Just his range and where he would even try to go with his voice. The guts to go from one octave to two above. Not a lot of people are doing that...so also his falsetto influence has influenced me as well.”
