    The problem is with assuming "how we understand homosexuality today" - as if any traditional understanding is anachronistic. This implicitly takes for granted that we are making real progress in understanding homosexuality. I wholeheartedly disagree that we have somehow gotten better at understanding this sinful behavior.

      There is also this bizarre conflation going on between same-sex acts and "progress" as if giving into base physical desires without thinking is somehow the modern thing to do. It's a weird rejection of the reality that controlling one's body is the modern concept and simply giving into whatever feels good without thinking of the consequences or logical reasons not to is what humans were much more likely to do in ancient times.

    Fr Casey is the prime example of post councillor mish mash of belief ....confusion and error has been the norm for 50 years and the clear unequivocal teaching of the previous 1700 years has been trumped by 'pastorally sensitive guidance '.....

      @@littlerock5256 While I blame the "Spirit of the Council" for this it is important to remember Pope Paul VI did very good job in combating heresies in morality. I also think it is notworthy the "Spirit of the Council" is very similar to the "Spirit" of mainline liberal protestant denominations, although the Doctrines remained very different the Zeitgeist is worryingly similar.

    As a Catholic who struggles, and battles, and wrestles with my homosexuality, my sin and my shame, its hard sometimes to hear the harshness of some of these words. But i must remember, it is not harshness, but the word of God.

      My response to the "Jesus never said that" argument would be to ask that person to read the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:31-32, Matthew 19:4-9, and Mark 10:3-12. Then I would ask them if they could gleam anything from those words in favor of anything outside of marriage between a man and a woman.

      Sure, that would be an argument. But someone could simply say “but He was talking about divorce, not homossexual acts!”
      This is why I’d strengthen this argument with the passages quoted above *after* having already discussed Leviticus and Romans in that order. Old Testament, then New so we establish that the moral Law hasn’t changed. Then discuss the Greek terms for men-bedders and effeminates, THEN finish with the Gospel of Mark and Matthew.

    Some will argue if God condemns homosexuality then why did he make it pleasurable, meaning why is it pleasurable for both partners. Horrible argument! The same argument could be made for drugs and a host of other sins. "Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God." Pleasure becomes idolatrous.

      He built a following teaching solid doctrine first, but in topics that weren't important or didn't contradict (in a superficial level) the views of his progressive agenda. Now that he's amassed a good enough following he's showing his true rainbow colors and leading as many people astray as he can.
      And I'm sure he thinks wholeheartedly that he's doing good by modernizing the Church, not as some evil plan, but it's still evil.

      Casey follows the same strategy as Fernandez with regard to traditional Catholicism: (1) state agreement with the teaching; (2) undermine and hollow out the teaching of any practical meaning. If someone criticizes (2), just point to (1).

    Trent Horn's rebuttals always personify 1 Peter 3:15 which says, "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect".

      Even though I am an evangelical Protestant I enjoyed listening to Michael Voris on Church Militant. He had no use for people like me but his condemnation of liberals was good. It is sad that he fell into sin.

    G.K. Chesterton wrote an excellent essay called _About Shamelessness._ In the essay Chesterton describes what he believes to be the real underlying problem with modern-day hedonism. The issue is not just the sexual perversions themselves, but the complete lack of shame and disgust regarding them.
    People in the past did these things, but they never wanted people to know about it. They understood it was wrong. The last thing on earth they would do is take pride in their perversion; or proudly proclaim it as some kind of "identity".
    Chesterton (correctly I believe) links this degradation of shame and disgust to moral relativism. I strongly recommend this essay.

      Kleptomaniacs and Pyromaniacs may indeed be "born that way". That doesn't make what they do correct. And, no, I'm not making a comparison. I'm simply saying that being born with a desire to do something does not automatically make it right. If that were the case, "I was born this way" could be used to justify anything. There may be a genetic influence on all our behaviors.
      Race mixing was considered immoral. I'm not sure if it was considered disgusting. It was not unusual to find white women having affairs with black men. Our sense of disgust is very different. People feel disgust when somebody does something bizarre or irrational.
      For example, if I'm walking down the street and a guy grabs a woman's purse, I would get angry because it's an immoral act. But suppose that guy, instead of grabbing the purse, picked a large spider off the ground and started to eat it. That may not actually be immoral per se. Maybe the guy is starving. I wouldn't feel anger towards that person, but it would trigger my sense of disgust.
      I should have made this distinction in my original post.

      Cole has had a channel for some time now. Other commenters expressed concern over other things he has said. This isn't a one off.
      Laymen correcting priests publicly is a bad look, at the very least. Cole's bishop should be dealing with this. As Cole's comments were public, the bishop's correction could and should also be public.

      I believed he left his comments on in one of his videos covering homosexuality in the Bible. He had replied to someone in the comments to help them understand his conclusion which was "Homosexuality isn't sinful. But homosexual acts are." He's practically admitting homosexuality is sinful but he doesn't want to bring any harming feeling against homosexuals.

    I think a certain amount of blame here needs to be placed not simply on Father Casey, but on his Franciscan formators and superiors for peddling these arguments. Father Casey isn’t some self-taught pseudo-scholar; at some point, his Franciscan seminary instructors and formators solidified these positions and supporting arguments in Father Casey, which of course get turned into these videos. It’s like when he did that ridiculous “prison workers are actually chattel slaves” video, I was thinking to myself “this is absolutely a stereotypical modern Franciscan/Jesuit take, someone in the order had to lay this out at one point and Casey gravitated to it.”

      Yes but Father Casey is not a mere puppet, he has a brain of his own. If he can't wrap his head around the fact that the bible is unambiguous on its views of homosexuality then he is not bright enough to do his job.

      Um.. yes? We have an entire field of science from biology to genetics to psychology to sexology that has made tremendous progress in the understanding of human sexuality. Similarly, we also know a lot more about sex differences whereas up until some centuries ago women were understood to be mentally inferior to men and thus unsuitable for public life, hence the Bible's pronouncements on women having to 'submit' to their husbands and all that.

    The problem my friend, is that Paul is not only condemning the men and women who participate in acts of homosexuality, but he also explains why these people have fallen into this sin: In his opinion, homosexuality is the consequence of idolatry. "Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles." (Romans 1:22) It is a path downwards: Idolatry leads to homosexuality, homosexuality to deprivation of the mind, and deprivation of the mind to malice of every kind. This is expressed in Romans 1.
    Is there any person in the Catholic Church today, from the Pope down to the last Catholic who really believes that homosexuality is born out of idolatry? Do you? Can any of you find any other reference in the Bible to the contrary? You all know that Paul's understanding is extremely limited, yet you have to defend his views since you believe the Bible to be inerrant (at least in the New Testament). Yet, a homosexual may be born even in the most pious Catholic family and you can't address this problem with Paul's cannonades

      No one is born a homosexual. People are being infected with chemicals and by being abused, and brainwashed by judaeo-media (movies, tv, etc.) - it's a sin, it's not a personality, but people are accepting it, which is also a sin. No one is saying they identify as a fornicator, but don't fornicate so it's acceptable - because we'll all know the identifying as the sin and partaking in the action of the sin are both morally wrong.

    That take on the passage in Romans is very confusing. So some beleive that God is against straight people having homosexual encounters, but as long as you are a true homosexual then it is okay? It has to be the funniest argument I have ever heard. Great video!

    I'm an Orthodox Christian and I have to say Trent did a great job defending our common faith ground here. Give credit where credit is due. I believe Fr. Cole knows perfectly well what he's doing and is subverting Scripture by poking holes in its interpretation by the Church and getting a foot in the door for future "developments" (the plan B mentioned). We are all in a spiritual battle and must defend the true faith.

      I'm with you on Fr. Cole knowing exactly what he's doing, yeah. If it's one thing I wish, its that my fellow Catholics would get on the ball about this because too many of them seem to have trouble wrapping their brains around the whole subversion thing calling those of us who talk about it, "rad trads".
      And I get it, its beyond a lot of people to grasp just why anyone would do this, never mind how. Because we're all genuinely good people who'd never consider deconstructing anything out of spite or some sadistic desire to cause pain. Its hard to think that there are a bunch of people out there who vow to do exactly that - it still comes hard to me and I've been engaging in this culture war for over a decade, it still breaks my heart to think about this stuff. I wish I didn't know half of what I know.
      But yeah, people need to wise up, although to be fair I think a lot of them are beginning to come around now. Thank you brother (or sister), and God bless you. 🙏

      He obviously scripted the video and put emphasis on that part on purpose. He probably does have an agenda, but not the courage to be sincere about it.

      I think you unknowingly make a good point, the real authority is tradition, the bible is just there to justify it.
      Few hundred years ago, the bible was used to justify slavery, because that was tradition, until it stopped, so people are now reinterpreting the bible as anti-slavery.

      However, most people say the guiding on morals and faith are contradictory, but they are not. You need to read it as a whole and understanding how they connect and clarify each other. There is only one Truth!

Chad Ripperger, a psychologist and exorcist who talks in his online seminaries about the sources of the vice in question and even mentions the names of the demon who tempts men (men have one such) and two separate demons who tempt women (women have two).
      His conferences are available on youtube.
      So much for the “natural” provenance of this vice.

    I'm unsure why Fr. Casey keeps creating content that's purposely ambiguous and against patristics and Catholic teaching. He wants to play both sides. It's not possible. Cite the teachings of the Catholic Church, and stop citing "modern scholars". If it was up to these "scholars", the entire New Testament would be anonymous and the 2000 years of Christ's Church would collapse.

      Why dont you go to a protestant website? I am sick of protestants putting their two cents into catholic matters. Read Hillaire Bellocs book, The "Great Heresies". You are a Heretic of the catholic church. When I was a kid we were not even allowed to talk to protestants. And until around 60 years ago the churches official teaching on protestants is that you will not be saved. I think that may be true, because protestants mock the Blessed Mother, (Jesus' Mother) and Dont believe in the Holy Eucharist. How is thinking like that going to get you saved? First you tell Jesus you hate His mother, and then you tell Him (Jesus) that He is a liar by not believing that His Body Soul and Divinity is the Holy Eucharist. Read John 6:53 again.       I am a Protestant who has done volunteer work at two missions. We give food and clothing to poor and homeless people. Of course, we preach the gospel. Many of the people we help are Roman Catholics. Sometimes we win a person to Christ. I do not think that Roman Catholics have to worry about our mission work. Any "Roman Catholic" we win to Christ was not much of a Catholic anyways. They may have been born into a Catholic family and baptised Catholic but they have not been practicing Catholics for years. You know what Catholics say. Poor Catholics become Protestants and good Protestants become Catholic.

      I'm the same, it's fascinating to watch this huge boom of catholic thought and a kind of revival happening. Given that so little theology is seriously debated in our church today or even by parishioners it's healthy to have exposure to both sides of the debates in an intellectually honest way with integrity and civility.

    First point, at 1:30, the catechism also refers to homosexual acts, making Father Casey right. There is no disagreement, just a lack of defining the term "homosexuality." Fr. Casey seems to use it as a characteristic intrinsic to the person. And yes, we do need someone to remind us the difference between condemning acts and condemning people apart from their acts. To use alcohoism properly, as anyone in AA can tell you, a person with alcoholism may never touch another drink, yet still have alcoholism. FYI, another way to see homosexuality a part of society, as in, "homosexuality in America." This is a third issue.

      he claims to be playing devil's advocate, in the hope that people will stop using weak arguments and switch to stronger ones. That would be a very good thing to do, if he were doing it. The problem is that he is doing the opposite, as Trent points out. Not sure if he is doing this intentionally and using "devils advocate" as cover for actually undermining the traditional teaching.

      It is not the first time Fr Casey has done this. He's had other not-so-shining moments such as when he quoted Marx in a positive light or when he taught universalism. This is not one slip-up, it's a pattern of behaviour. He does seem to be intentionally subversive to the faith and it is dangerous because his channel is made to appeal to younger Catholics.

    Thank you for this response. It saddens me that Fr. Casey could be so effective at reaching younger Catholics, but instead seems to be (hopefully inadvertently) sowing more confusion at a time clarity is desperately needed.

      He and his other channel, upon Friar Review are also good at building bridges w/ protestant Christians, and I even see a lot of comments from atheists that like that channel too. I'm a non Catholic Christian that was enjoying the channel, but I'm really disappointed w/ this softness and subversive teaching towards homosexuality and sexual sin in general. There are many of us wanting to raise a holy standard against all manner of sin. The subversion is in all the churches, and tragically, those w/ large public platforms and ordinations can peddle their subversive wares to the weak in faith, and those thinking of coming into Christianity.

      I have enjoyed Fr Casey's content but after a while I realized what he is doing. He says he follows Chirch teaching but then will subtly undermine the faith once for all delivered to the saints yet not in a way where he can be caught out

    The easier way to bypass this entire argument is to simply argue that adultery is immoral.
    1. Marriage is between one man and one woman, and open to procreation. (Mark 10:5-9)
    2. Adultery is any sexual act outside of the context of a marriage. (Hebrews 13:4)
    3. Homosexual acts are adultery. (1 Corinthians 7:2)
    4. Adultery is immoral. (Exodus 20:14)
    5. Therefore, homosexual acts are immoral.
    An addendum would also include:
    A1: Lust, a thought which leads to adultery, is immoral. (Matthew 5:28)
    A2: Homosexual lust leads to adultery. (1 Corinthians 7:2)
    A2: Therefore, homosexual lust is immoral.
    Also the all-white background makes it look like you are recording this video from Heaven. 🤣

      In conclusion to homosexuality, not only can we conclude that our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit who spoke through the Apostles clarify matrimony between heterosexuals but further stated that immorality was only permitted through heterosexual matrimony. If immorality is only acceptable between heterosexuals then by default, immorality & matrimony between homosexuals is not only sinful but contradicts our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit who spoke through the Apostles. This is why the wolves focus so much on either the word homosexual or the act itself instead of matrimony‼️
      Even though we know more now about sexual orientations, who will dare claim our Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit who spoke through the Apostles knew less⁉️

      @@Darkforest138no 🙃 slavery in the Bible is not the same as slavery we understand it to be today. The slaves were of the same race and *willingly* entered into servitude typically to have assistance paying off debts. They would be freed after an agreed amount time.

    I was with you tll the end where you agreed with Fr. Casey. Christianity makes it clear that yes our actions can be sinful but so can our thoughts. The idea that homosexual thoughts are okay as long as you don't act upon them is just incorrect for the same reason that lusting after a woman other than your wife is not okay either.

    I think one of our main issues as Christians is that we have accepted homosexuality as a legitimate category of being. It isn’t. There is no such thing as a homosexual, as in someone who was made to be attracted to the same sex. Yes, we have people given over to that type of unnatural lust, but the answer is not to accept the person as homosexual, the answer is to call them to repent.

      No no no no no and no! Protestants, Anglicans and some Modernist Catholics did. We orthodox Christians don't. We know that it's among what the Old Testament lists as abominations. And We have a clear spiritual understanding of what abomination is : Something that defiles, profane or desecrate. One is to put an idol in the holy place. Another is the desolation (desertification) of the holy place. It's not just another sin. So the blessing of an abomination is not a pastoral issue of economy but a sacrilege practice. Yet another one one may say. How many others before they piled up to heaven, and God remembers those crimes.

      People that are same sex attracted have always been around. This particular sin has always been around. I don't think we can deny the reality of that. It wouldn't be mentioned in the bible if it wasn't always a problem. I think the newer problem you were trying to articulate is that they've taken it on as an identity. That's the paradigm shift and the lie. It's like saying, I'm a fornicator or an adulterer, that's just who I am. If you tell me to change that, you're attacking my very identity. That's the gay agenda stance now. It's not a reality though, we can still be called to repentance, because what we really are is children of God, called to live a life as holy as we can, for love of God and the good of society, and for the best chance at raising healthy children.

      I think one of our main issues is that we accept "Christian" as a legitimate category of being. It isnt. There is no such thing as a christian, as in someone who follows christ. Yes we have people who are delusional and talk to imaginary friends to cope with trauma and anxiety, but the answer is not to just accept these people and their delusions, but to provide them with adequate psychiatric care.

    There's something wrong with this guy (fr. casey) and when you call him out on his UA-cam page as I have, he releases a sad video on how people are picking on him. He doesn't understand that when you enter the public arena, you are opened up to criticism.

I don't think there's good evidence for the Catholic teachings on purgatory, the perpetual virginity of Mary, praying to anyone but God, and transubstantiation. But, if we can agree on the simple gospel of Jesus Christ, then that's enough for me.

    Thank you for this video. The first 80% of Fr. Cole's video, I was like, "Fr. Cole is a heretic". The ending of the video doesn't justify the beginning.

    Fr. Casey seems to barely keep his feet on this side of the "technically doesn't constitute heresy" line. It's like he feels the need to be apologetic for maintaining church teaching

    Father Casey is a problem in the Catholic Church. He leaves everything in a gray areas and doesn’t give clarity about the teachings of Christ. He almost seems to encourage sinful lifestyles in attempt to reach as many people as he can. At some point you have to be clear and make a stand, it’s up to people to make a decision on what they will follow.

    Thank you Trent. I pretty much gave up on Fr. Casey when he basically said prisons should be eleminated since some current prisons are bad/evil. I watched his homosexual just to see how he could mess up that topic, kinda like watching a car wreak. I Pray his Bishop counsels Fr. Casey to get off social media.

      Some prisons are for profit which means they’re run to make a private owner Profit while mandated contracts by the government, those should be illegal, as well as reformed but that’s got nothing to do with this.. well, besides the whole “being bubbas boytoy” in prison kinda thing.. shouldn’t laugh but it’s amusing slightly.

    Spot on Trent! Fr. Casey has been in need of being called out on numerous occasions now. One of his videos on abortion was way off the Churches teaching. I personally think he enjoys confrontation.

      Father Casey is gracious for comments and humble if he needs to correct himself and interacts at times. No one on this site or others is perfect. Our egos and need to do well with the platform sometimes creep in I'm sure being human. He still preaches though and I'm glad he isn't swayed by hatred or condemnation. I say try to get to know someone well as much as you can. I've watched many videos of priests and some I click with, some are too gruff or dry. I don't write someone off on a video or two. I've never heard Fr Casey say anything wrong. Compassion is needed in our world. You don't have to sacrifice your belief to be empathetic.

    The problem with this video is it takes snippets from Fr. Casey and offers criticism without the full context. It is better to reach out and request to have an actual discussion/debate on the topic if you think his position is “WRONG”. Your caption comes off as clickbait.

    I think he very clearly articulated his point. The Bible is clear about homosexuality being abnormal because it never mentions it in a normal context.

      This is a weak argument, he dismissed all good arguments to make us rely on a weak one. He knows that if we relied on his argument it wouldn't take much time for people to accept homosexual unions more in more in Catholic circles. That's his idea.

      But then he also said that 'normal' homosexual relationships didn't exist in those times. Thereby giving a good reason not to expect this kind of relationship to be shown. And therefore defeating the one argument against homosexuality he gave in his video. And he used most of the video to tear down any other biblically based argument against the topic. While his counterarguments, as Trent has shown, are very weak.
      So no, there's nothing orthodox about this video of Fr Casey.

Obviously it's abnormal for two people of the same sex to be in union because the parts don't fit. The fact that the bible doesn't give it the go ahead is enough, people get the rest...

    The biggest passage for me is not one that says "homosexuality is wrong" but the one in wich Jesus said that a man and a woman will be united to form one flesh.
    It shows what God wants and has created for the union of two people in marriage to form a family
