Cool video. The Alertronic siren closely resembles the Whelen siren. The difference is that this siren rotates 360 degrees, has a wind down and Whelens, only rotate 2 ways. Whelens stop rotating without winding down.
Seems pretty healthy to me! The other alertronics in Oak Ridge aren’t quite as healthy. There are a few that are completely dead and abandoned in place. I was glad to hear a healthy Alertronic when it wound up!
I only live 70 miles from Oak Ridge, I've tried filming their Alertronics, but they where fails. All though I did hear a quite ambiance of an Alertronic!
They are a fairly similar pitch but this has a much smoother sound, the thunderbolt 1000 has some raspiness that adds to the tone. Honestly they both sound pretty good though IMO.
The sirens at the ETTP (former K25 site) still go off but a decent number do not function and are rotting on the pole. We managed to find one that was foundational thankfully and boy it was worth the 4 hour drive! Now the system in the city for Y12 is all tempests and the alertronics were removed.
Doing pretty well, we just moved so we had to bring it to the new house and we took the horn off for easier transport. It is in the new garage now with the horn and chopper motor off of it, sitting on the floor.
It was nice to finally get a recording! I had tried twice before and Christian had tried for many years so to see that siren start rotating was such a great sight.

This sure does have a much longer wind down, it really feels like older electronics tried to emulate mechanicals more than today’s electronic sirens.
Nice shot! Glad you could go with us.
It was awesome finally getting to meet you! Hopefully we can record one of the T-135s at some point!
Thanks, you too. And yeah, I would like to record a T-135 eventually as I'm sure a lot of us would.
Wow! Sounds like a very healthy Alertronic!

Me too!

Try again, these things might not last much longer!
LOVE IT.
Best audio award goes to...
Whelen 3000's long lost brother from another mother
Sure looks like it! These things sound awesome, and they are rather punchy in person!
I can imagine this being more powerful too.
Yeah, it was definitely pretty close to the Vortex that I recorded but this would certainly carry farther.
It’s a whelen 4004 with collector rings
Sounds like a Thunderbolt 1000

Flying Train Productions Yeah, Just to cool, but yeah very smoother.
So these are actually still in service ? This is nice. I thought they were destined to rot on their pole.

How’s mr. Tbolt 1000BT doin?
Doing pretty well, we just moved so we had to bring it to the new house and we took the horn off for easier transport. It is in the new garage now with the horn and chopper motor off of it, sitting on the floor.
Flying Train Productions Planning in getting the blower running?
I ran it in my New Years video for 2017 using a gas engine. We finally have a circuit large enough to run it so that will be coming at a later time.
Wow oak ridge

Flying Train Productions: I’m confused.
Is it oak ridge or Harriman.
It is technically Harriman, where the former K25 site was. It is just outside of Oak Ridge and is also operated by the DOE.
Flying Train Productions: oh ok thanks
