Floyd Patterson holds 4 records in boxing. 1. First gold medalist to win a title. 2. First man to regain the heavyweight title. 3. Youngest undisputed heavyweight champion of all time. 4. (My personal favourite) Patterson was knocked down and got off the canvas to defend his title more than anyone else before or since at heavyweight. Which means whilst Patterson didn’t have the best of chins, he had a massive heart and never quit. This aspect is the opposite of Tyson. Mike never recovered from a knockdown to win a fight. Mike had a better chin than floyd but not as big a heart
What a stupid comparison. You gonna pretend Patterson was never knocked out by Johansson? You gonna pretend he did not get destroyed by Liston? Stupid, stupid comment.
maybe not fair to compare Floyd with Mike T. Mike had a rough road to take from day one. I remember Patterson so well Very has hands and he could hit. Perhaps the best 'technician' ever.. Total gentleman, too
Floyd hung in there for quite some time. He just lacked the power, speed, and toughness to beat Liston and Ali. He did defeat Oscar Bonavena in that same time frame.
Floyd was great in this fight. How he produced that performance at that stage of his career. I have no idea! Gentlemen and fantastic servant and ambassador to our sport.
Floyd was 165 pounds in the Olympics, and was purposely bulked up to heavyweight because there was less money fighting at light heavyweight. This put him at a big disadvantage against really big guys like Liston and Ali, because he was a natural 175 pounder
@stefan johansson yes, but by the time he fought Liston Ali was 210. And he got bigger after that. Ali was certainly a natural heavyweight, actually taller than Liston. Patterson was purposely bulked up , he could have had a career at 175

I saw Patterson fight live about a year before this. Even though he was in his mid thirties, he was in good shape and still had really fast hands. I thought Patterson was ahead in this fight before it was called, or at the most it was even. Patterson was by now familiar with Ali's style and knew how to counteract it. Floyd also showed good footwork.
I had no idea Floyd Paterson was fighting Ali so late as in 1972! Floyd Paterson looks like a very late middle age, middle weight. Out of his league. Ali didn't look so young and fit either.
History has treated Patterson poorly. Liston had his number, something Liston did was evidently Patterson's weak spot, because though Liston destroyed Patterson, Patterson could get through Ali's defenses remarkably well, slip most of his punches and give him all he wanted and more. Yet Ali had Liston's number. Strange how that works sometimes. For a 37-year-old to hang tough with Ali, the only difference between them being Ali's punches were of more consequence with him being the larger man, is remarkable. I think the main thing is the chin. Patterson had a poor chin for a champ, and a heavy hitter like Liston was his weakness, whereas while Ali had good power, he never had great power. You scale Patterson up 10% and give him a little better chin he might have been one of the all time greats rather than just another champ who held the belt between greats.
I saw a video that claimed ALI and Patterson had an agreement. to fight but not really hurt each other. he called him 'the rabbit' and all that, but they had a personal agreement .I don't know how true that is, but ALI did say Floyd had faster hands than even him.
Ali was indeed dragging this fight out both for the heck of it and to dignify Floyd for whom he had no animosity. Floyd quit after this. He'd been unbeaten in the 70s and on a 9-0 roll including Bonavena soon before this, so hoping to somehow get a 5th title shot (which would have made him first / only man to fight for the heavy title in 3 decades). Frazier was in his period of protecting the title between the Ali 1 punishment and destruction by Foreman. Joe would have steamrolled Floyd a la Liston at this point.
Floyd had he stayed a lgt hwt, would have been the best lgt hwt ever, better than Moore,Charles,Foster. He always was in great condition and his hand speed, and combos hurt many guys. This is only a fight by appearances, not fact. When Ali got roasted on the Dean Martin series they filmed regularly at the MGM casino in Las Vegas Floyd Patterson and Rocky Graciano were there also by Ali's invite. Essentially this fight was a boxing demo for boxing fans. Patterson and Rocky had no way to beat Ali. It's an exibition fight. It's acceptable tradition for money and fans to enjoy. Don't be saps. 😅

Patterson was over the hill when he fought Ali. Patterson didn’t have the reach nor the quickness to get a handle on this fight. To old and to slow
This was their second meeting. I believe he fought Ali in 1965 too.
@@michellefreeman3659 yeah. Floyd entered the ring for their 1st fight w/ back spasms. in Boxing, too much money is on the line to bow out.
Saat pertandingan ini diadakan saya baru berusia dua tahun lebih kurang
Floyd doesn't do badly-at-all. What if he had gotten in one against Joe Frazier yet do WELL! Would of gave him better profile at this ERA!
Hardly heard of this fight. It was all about the legal tender.
Who would have imagined, that Ali, still moving with grace, however a bit slower a foot and clearly past his prime here would deteriorate so quickly that by 1977 he looked nothing like this.
Between 1971 and1977 Ali fought and won against the most difficult boxers in any era. Everyone would have thought he wouldn’t look the same as 5 to 6 year’s previously.
Ali (Cassius Clay) said of Patterson, three things: too slow, poor foot work and can't take a punch. Hahaha If you don't believe it, check out the interview. Patterson is no match for Ali, who is bigger, faster and stronger!
Why is a 185-pound man fighting a 215-pound man, did they not have weight classes?
they did but they never had a cruiserweight division at the time. Probably why you see former lhw’s like Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore go up to heavyweight because of the big money.
Ali beat him Twice and carried him in this fight! Funny thing is Floyd was trained by cus who trained Tyson in the same peak a boo style! 🧠👨🏫🥊
Tyson neck was twice as thick as Patterson's, and his punches much more powerful. Tyson would not have been giving away two stone.
@@Genetic_Memory Same exact style at the end of the day and that style was created for knockouts! 🥊
El rey del arte de boxear Muhammad Ali el mas grande superatleta
some of you are blind as well as cluleless... ali was toying with patterson... floyd was never even close to being in the fight...
I agree theonly Time ali really tried to destroy a boxer is when he was insulted or knocked down
I love how Ali’s corner embraces Patterson - respect and sportsmanship
Imagine how prime Iron Mike would have done.

Tyson < Floyd < Ali. So stop comparing guys
Ali is above both of them and would've beaten them both so WDYM man
@@Ken_Frazer-619 oh shit I did the arrow in the wrong direction 💀 { thanks for the correction }
@@Ken_Frazer-619 naah naah it's correct... Ali >>>>
What a beautiful man was Ali
Floyd ...also First man to attempt to win the Heavyweight World Championship for the Third Time...
😊🌸👍👏💪
peakabook style dosent need too much bouncing, paterson bounced too much......tyson took this style on another level with less bouncing .
Patterson might win P4P
28:17 this very gay man? is the subs wrong?
Any further.
Ali always the gentleman
Really loved the sport, and showed compassion for all oponnents. Not trying to make anyone.Just competitive.
mame anyone
Ali brincava de mais.
Floyd deserves way more respect than he gets. A young Mike Tyson beats this version of Ali.
Ur crazy!! Ali would blind Tyson with that jab. Ali would keep sticking and moving, tying Tyson up pushing him away before Tyson throws that inside upper cut. Ali would confuse Tyson real bad. Ali would unload lead rights frustrate Tyson and knock him out
@@rakim6466 He was referring to this version of Ali vs patterson. In 1972 he was in his 30's and wasn't as sharp as he was younger. Larry Holmes also, who came out from 2 two years of retirement, didn't have the legs and the condition at 38 to fight a young Tyson in 1988.
@@rakim6466 that dream fight would have to take place in both their respective primes. Cus D'amato was ALI's friend, and he'd work w/ Mike in a very serious way, as he knew both fighters so well. very interesting to ponder.
🤣It's pointless to compare fighters from different eras, and fans get carried away. How many times was Lennox Lewis asked why didn't he fight Mike in his prime. Lewis's reply "I was still in the amateurs when Mike was in his prime."
For me the question should be Ali or Mike, both in their prime. Mike was asked this and his reply, Ali couldn't throw a hook or a body shot - he'd have fucking killed me."
Remember two things, the first man to beat Mike was the first who wasn't afraid of him. Ali was well past his prime when he knocked out Big George, who WAS in HIS prime.
Anyway, TGOAT won titles at 8 different weights.
A more interesting comparison would be Tyson in his prime versus Ali in his prime.
